For the last few weeks, Sam has been staying with Blaine until he got on his feet. He has been applying to jobs and went on some interviews, and while they all seemed promising, there was one interview he hoped went extremely well. The position was for Project Manager, and it was for a company not as big as his parents but they were on the rise. They were smaller, but after some research, he could tell that they would become bigger within a few years. He just wanted to help them get there and actually grow with them. The interview process went well. He had to go on three interviews before he interviewed with the CEO. And he just had that interview a few days ago. He just hopes that he impressed them enough for them to want to hire him. He had a few job offers, but didn't take anything because he was waiting until Reynolds, Smith, and Hills also known as RS&H made him a job offer. He needed this job especially since he had a child on the way and didn't want any help from his parents to take care of them. And though Quinn still has her trust, he wanted to be able to provide for his child on his own.

"Hey, you okay."

Sam was startled from his thoughts by the sound of Blaine's voice. "Oh, I didn't even hear you come in."

"I see that. Just came to tell you that if you want breakfast, you better act on it fast before Kurt demolishes the whole thing."

Sam chuckled. He saw first hand how much Kurt can eat, and he really didn't know where the food went. "I'll be down in a minute."

Blaine sighed. "I'm surprised you're up so early though. Another interview?

"Nope, Quinn has a doctor appointment, so I'm going to meet her there."

Blaine looked over at him. "Oh, that's good. You need to borrow my car?"

"Nope, I'll just call an uber. No big deal."

Blaine nodded. "Okay that's fine, so how is all that going? You know the whole being a dad thing? I know it can't be easy considering you and she aren't together but I am proud of you for standing on your own and making your way. To be honest I am wondering if Evans Corp is the place for me after all you and Mercedes went through with your parents...I feel like I am betraying friend code and all that."

"Blaine, keep your job. You aren't betraying me at all. You have a good position there. No sweat man." He sighed and sat on his bed. "And as far as Quinn, I haven't spoken to her much, but she seems fine. She may still be a little mad, but she didn't argue with me about coming to her doctor's appointment. She only requested that I come alone." Sam put on his socks, before standing up. "Anyway, what's for breakfast?"

"I just want you to know I got you if you need me." He sighed he didn't want to say anything bad about Quinn but the girl wasn't stupid. Why would she argue with Sam coming? It was a way to bond with him, but he wasn't about to bring that up. "Well that's good, just be careful." He smiled. "Pancakes and Bacon with eggs so hurry up."

Sam followed Blaine to the kitchen where Kurt was already at the table making a plate. "Morning." Sam said with a smile before helping himself to some pancake and eggs. He didn't really eat bacon unless Sandra made them. He liked them a certain way. He sat down with his plate and orange juice. "Blaine, aren't you going to be late for work?"

Kurt smiled. "Morning, and he took off today we have a whole day planned for our Anniversary." Kurt kisses Blaine softly, then sits down. "So how goes the job search? Have you had any luck?"

"He actually has a few in the bag, but he is holding out on the big fish as they say." Blaine said sitting next to Kurt.

"Hopefully I'll hear something from them next week. I feel silly putting all my eggs in one basket, and like that saying goes, 'take the risk or lose the chance.'" At that moment, Sam's phone beeped indicating a text from Quinn reminding him that her appointment is in one hour and that he shouldn't be late. Sam sent a quick reply before turning back to his food.

Kurt nodded. "Well if they are smart they will call you back." Kurt took a sip of his hot coffee. "So what are your plans for today?"

Blaine cleared his throat as a warning before speaking. "Sam and Quinn have a doctors appointment."

Kurt smirked. "I bet she's thrilled about that."

Blaine cleared his throat again and Kurt ignored him again. "Honey you need to get a cough drop or something." he turned back to Sam. "I mean don't get me wrong, I know ya'll been team Quinn for years and so it's all new...but I am on team Mercedes so don't let that crazy bundle of blonde-" he stopped when Blaine kicked his shin softly. "Ow!"

Blaine cleared his throat once more. "I am sure Quinn is umm just making sure Sam has a part in his child's life. It's very nice of her."

"Please she wants him in her bed we all know it." Kurt said to himself.

"Don't worry Kurt. I'm team Mercedes too." He said with a wink. "Plus, I'm sure Blaine is right. She is beginning to think about our child and wanting me to be in their life. Quinn can be a lot of things, but she isn't cold-hearted." Sam was still speaking from the many years he has known her. She is a good person, but just got caught up like he did.

Kurt took a sip of his drink. "Okay." He didn't believe that. Women didn't just give up, yes she may have been maternal but she was also in love with Sam.

Blaine looked at him. "Well you better get going, you know if you are even five minutes early she considers you late."

Sam looked at the time. Blaine was right. He pulled up the uber app, and once he put in the information, they said they were 5 minutes away. "You're right. Uber is 5 minutes out." He washed his dishes. "Happy anniversary to you both. Enjoy your day."

Sam left and Kurt looked at Blaine. "Please tell me you are not buying this woe is me i have moved on crap."

Blaine shook his head. "No I am not. Quinn is a smart woman, but Sam is gonna have to see for himself."

"I don't want him to hurt my best friend." Kurt said defensively.

"I doubt it will get to that. Now can we celebrate please?"

Quinn may have lost the battle but the war was far from over. She had a plan, a plan that would guarantee Sam would come back to her. She was pregnant and it was his, he was tied to her by that fact alone. And bonding over a baby is a huge deal for families. Her sister's husband almost left but she got pregnant and the further along she got the more in love with her he fell. And Sam was a much better guy than her sister's husband. So she would play the long con. Pretend she was okay with just being "Friends" with Sam and milk this pregnancy for all its worth.

She sat in the waiting room, and closed her eyes thinking of her plan. Once she saw the sonogram, she would cry, and pretend she was okay, he would want to see her home, just to make sure she was okay and then tonight, tonight would be her first "midnight craving" and Sam would get her whatever she needed. She once, didn't speak to her father for three months until he bought her a private jet, this was easier.

Sam arrived at the appointment twenty minutes early because if he arrived late, he would have never heard the end of it from Quinn. Before he went up to the Doctor's office, he put a call to Mercedes just to check up on her.

The phone rang a few times before she answered. "Hey Merce, just checking in on you before I meet with Quinn."

Mercedes had spent the entire morning going over the file that was due later on today. She thought she would screw up as soon as she got hired but the job was easy, and they actually enjoyed her thoughts and ideas. The company was in the midst of a bidding war with Evans Corp and because of Mercedes, they won the deal.

Her phone rang and she smiled seeing it was Sam. "Hey handsome, I am great how are you? Are you ready for this?"

"I'm good. About to go to this doctor's appointment, but I wanted to hear your voice before I go in and face Quinn. How's work going?"

"Work is good, pretty sure your parents are gonna be pissed when they learn a deal they thought they had in the bag fell through but as your mother often told me when I felt bad about things like this. That is the price you pay for doing business." She sighed. "Okay and maybe i felt a little joy sticking it to them too but i know you don't really wanna hear stuff like that."

"I want to hear whatever you want to talk about." And he meant it. He was tired of his parents and they needed to be taken down a few notches. "So, no worries."

She grabbed her ear piece and put it in as she stood walking over to her fax machine. "So are you ready to see your little bundle of joy?" she wanted to keep her voice evenly toned but she was still quite annoyed at this whole thing.

"I'm a little nervous about it. I think once I see the sonogram, it'll make things more real." He knew this couldn't be easy for her. If the roles were reversed, he would be ticked off too.

Mercedes chewed her bottom lip as he spoke, him seeing the sonogram is what made her heart break. "Yeah I can imagine that would be a turning point in someone's life." She said, realizing that it was slightly cold.

Sam didn't miss the tone in her voice and wanted to take her mind off of everything."How about we go to dinner tonight? Just the two of us. My treat. And then we can have a nightcap at your place." He wanted to get her mind off of things.

"I think dinner would be great, is 6 okay?"

"6 it is. I can meet you at that new Italian restaurant that opened a few weeks ago. I know reservations are impossible to get, but I know the manager, and I can get us a good table." Sam said with a small grin on his face, while keeping track of the time.

Mercedes closed her eyes with a smile. "Yes that sounds perfect. I will meet you there." She sighed feeling a slight sickness in her stomach. "So I know you have to go, but I can't wait to see you tonight. Good luck."

"Thanks. I'll probably need it. But I'm looking forward to seeing you tonight. I love you Ms Jones."

"I love you too Mr. Evans. Bye." She hung up and swallowed hard, all this stuff with Quinn was making her sick to her stomach, she trusted Sam but she didn't trust Quinn as far as she could throw her.

Sam hung up the phone and headed up to the OB/GYN office. He was about 10 minutes ahead of time, so Quinn shouldn't be too upset.

When he stepped into the office, he saw Quinn right away. He walked over to the empty sit next to her. "Hey. I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long."

Quinn had been waiting on Sam, and when ten til 1 came and he strolled inside, she frowned internally but forced a smile. He doesn't respond well to nagging and she knew that. "You catch more flies with honey." She told herself. "Hey Sam, no not too long I am just nervous."

She wanted to go to him and hug him, show him she missed him, but she knew that would upset him so she just nodded at him and looked down to her magazine.

"You, nervous? I didn't think there was anything that made you nervous."

"I guess there are things you still don't know about me." She said before going back to her magazine.

Sam picked up one of the Parenting magazines and started to flip through them. He came across an article where the baby was sitting in the highchair with food all over their face, and was just really happy. "I can't believe in a few months, we will be parents to a hopefully happy boy or girl. It seems unreal." He didn't think he would ever have a child, at least not with Quinn, but here they were. At least they were cordial with each other and could be friends through this whole thing.

She listened to Sam and nodded. "Except in this case he or she will only have part time parents. But that's better than nothing." She heard her name being called and stood with a smile. "Here we are."

She allowed the nurse to walk her to the office and get her prepared for her exam. As she waited on the hospital bed she looked at Sam. "I am happy that you came here with me. I know things are bad between us, but this child will be loved."

Dr. Carter walked inside with a smile. "Well hello Mommy and Daddy are we ready to see our baby?"

Sam nodded. He was ready to see the baby. He watched Quinn get comfortable on the hospital bed. Dr. Carter lifted up her shirt and applied the gel to her belly. He saw Quinn flinch a little. "Is it cold?" He asked her.

"Very." Quinn said, she normally would complain but right now was about growing closer to Sam not pushing him away. "Can you ummm hold my hand? We agreed to be friends and this is huge right now?" She said referring to the conversation they had a few weeks back, when Sam apologized for everything, sincerely and then asked if she thought they could be friends, she didn't but she didn't tell him that.

He did say that they would be friends and he would stand by her with this pregnancy. So if she needed him to hold her hand, he would.

"Sure. He took her by the hand and slightly squeezed it, reassuring her. He smiled and turned his eyes to the screen, hoping to see a glimpse of the baby.

Quinn watched as Dr. Carter froze the Screen for a photo of the growing baby inside of Quinn's stomach. She felt tears come to her eyes, this was her first time seeing their child. "Oh my God Sam, that's our baby."

Sam didn't know what to feel or how to react. He was half expecting this to be a hysterical pregnancy. He didn't want to believe that Quinn was actually pregnant. But staring at the sonogram screen, there was a little baby in there, and Sam felt guilt. Guilt for not believing Quinn, and also guilty because he impregnated Quinn, when he knew he had feelings for Mercedes. But he had to push all of that aside, and look at his child. They were growing in Quinn's stomach, and no matter how much he wanted to believe that she wasn't pregnant, the proof was right there in front of him. He was about to be a father. It was happening whether he wanted it to or not. He squeezed Quinn's hand again and smiled at the screen. "Our baby. How about that."

It's funny how two little words could reignite someone's resolve. And hearing Sam say "Our Baby" was just what Quinn needed to hear. She removed her hand from Sam's and sat up straighter not catching his eyes. If she played this right, something great would come out of it.

"I am sorry I got caught in the moment." She said, wiping her eyes. "I didn't mean to impose on you like that it's just, despite everything, we created such a beautiful thing Sam. I don't even care if it's a boy or a girl I just want it to know that it comes from two people who love it more than anything, more than anyone."

Dr. Carter gave Quinn some tissues. "Well if I can say you guys are a lovely couple and it might be tough but I know this child is going to be loved. Here are your copies and a few extra, I know you will want to give the grandparents a copy. And Quinn your next appointment will be in 6 weeks, maybe then we can see what you are having."

Quinn smiled. "Actually I think I want to wait. I want to be surprised. I am learning I can't control everything so this will be a good test." She said hoping Sam was listening,

Sam didn't know what had gotten into Quinn. Seems like the pregnancy is making her a better person. Or maybe that was wishful thinking because they were about to have a baby and he was hoping that she changed a bit.

"I think waiting is good. It will be loved regardless of the gender." Sam looked at his copy and couldn't help but smile. This was his child. He took a deep breath before turning to Quinn. "Are you ready to go? I can walk you to your car."

Quinn sat up in the chair and sighed. "You don't have to walk me to my car Sam, I know you probably have other things you need to do. We are going to be fine."

"No, I don't mind making sure you get to your car safely. If not to your car, then I'll at least walk you out of the office." He felt weird just leaving her like that.

She nodded. "Okay Sam, I appreciate it." She grabbed her bag and walked over to the door and opened it letting Sam follow her. No matter the progress she made with Sam today, this was just the beginning.

While everything inside of her wanted to reach out to him, hold his hand and kiss him, she just walked towards the door, "Respecting" the space he wanted, if he wanted to get closer he would do it subconsciously on his own.

As they exited the Doctors office, Quinn was taken back by a flash. "There they are! High Society royalty. Quinn, is it true that you are pregnant?"

Sam didn't know what was going on and what the press was doing here. He couldn't even make out familiar faces. And how did people know about the pregnancy. His first thought was that Quinn tipped them off.

"Of course she is." Quinn froze hearing the voice of Randall Fabray. She looked up to see her parents and Sam's, smiling as they walked towards her and Sam. "What the hell are they doing!" She said loudly, they were ruining everything.

Randall smiled broadly. "We wanted to keep it a secret but why keep love a secret. Sam and Quinn are expecting our first grandchild and I know it's not conventional but we aren't back in the 1900's where it was frowned upon. These two are engaged and the wedding is fast approaching."

Of course his family would be involved, and now her parents. He was completely thrown for a loop, and his first instinct was to just get out of there. But he couldn't leave Quinn to the vultures. So he put his arm around her waist, and shields them from the cameras, while taking her to the car, making sure not to answer any questions. He put Quinn in the passenger seat, and he took the driver's seat. When he got in, he quickly turned to Quinn. "Give me your car keys."

"Look at them so in love. Remember to take plenty of pictures, we want everyone to know how much in love these two are." Quinn heard her father say as Sam whisked her away like a knight in shining armor. She knew he still loved her, still wanted her. The way he held her, shielded her proved as much. It was becoming clear, Mercedes was just a fling, one that she could forgive once he worked hard enough for it.

Once in the car she gave him her keys. "Sam I swear I had no idea they were going to be here, You know I don't get along with my dad but he just, he won't take our break up seriously." She said giving him her best innocent eyes, considering she wasn't lying made it easier.

Sam pulled off, and when he was sure no one was following them, he banged the steering wheel hard in frustration. "I just don't need this extra attention right, especially since I'm up for this job. Or when my relationship with Mercedes is still so fresh." He hoped that Mercedes didn't see this. That was all he needed right now. He didn't know if he believed that Quinn had nothing to do with it, but she seemed sincere enough. "Anyway, where can I drop you off? Home?"

Quinn frowned but masked it with her words. "I can't believe them. Today was supposed to be about this baby, not about their agenda." She let the tears fall which were becoming easier due to the pregnancy. "Yeah just take me home please. I just wanted one moment that wasn't ruined by them. You know my dad Sam, he is such an ass..he knew what this appointment meant to me. This is the first thing that is just mine, and he ruined it." She truly was upset about her parents being there even if it seemed to help Sam remember how much he loved her.

"Let's just put them out of our mind and focus on the baby." With one hand on the steering and his eyes still on the road, he pulled out the sonogram picture and handed it to her. "Just focus on the baby, and nothing else. Don't cry. That just brings you more stress, and the doctor said that you need to keep stress to a minimum."

Quinn took the sonogram and wiped her eyes. "I promise I will never do this to our child." She reached over and took Sam's hand. "We will never do this to our child. What our parents are doing to us, we won't be those kinds of parents. I promise Sam I will be the best mom you could want for him or her. I won't take this gift for granted."

Sam smiled at her. "And I promise to be the best father to our child. And never interfere with their personal lives." Sam pulled up to Quinn's building and the valet was ready to take the keys. But he turned to Quinn. "Remember that secret pinky promise we had when we promised all them years ago?" He asked her.

Quinn nodded listening to Sam and practically screamed when he mentioned their pinky promise. "I remember, linked our pinkies, kissed them and promised that everything would be okay. And I knew everything would be." She sighed as she got out of the car. "I wish I could feel that way right now, that everything would be okay." She looked down to her hands saying her mantra "take the bait, take the bait" over and over in her head.

Sam handed the keys to the valet as he got out of the car. He walked over to her and sighed. He didn't want her feeling bad. "None of this is our fault. Our parents are just trying to run our life. But I think we should do the pinky promise because it's my promise that everything will be okay." He stuck out his pinky and looked at her expectantly.

Quinn glanced at him and smiled. She moved closer to him and linked her pinky with his. "Okay everything's gonna be okay." She said bringing their still linked pinkies to her lips and kissing his, before holding out their linked pinkies to him for his to finish the ritual.

Sam smiled and repeated after her, before bringing their linked pinkies to his lip and kissing hers. "I'm glad we can be friends though this Quinn." He was about to drop his hands from hers until she stopped him.

"I am glad we can be friends too Sam, but as friends you know that this whole thing isn't complete. We have to kiss to seal the promise." She said, but she knew he would go for the lips, even so she had to try.

Sam vaguely remembers that they ended their pinky promise with a kiss. But at that time they were young and single. "I can't kiss you Quinn, but I'll give you a hug instead."

"I know Sam, but these are your rules that we made a promise and pack on, no promise is a promise unless it's sealed with a kiss. So let's compromise. I will take that hug and a kiss on the cheek." She said softly.

"Fine." Sam just wanted to make her feel better, and he didn't see any harm with a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Friends do that all the time. He pulled her into a hug wrapping his arms around her waist, feeling a bit uncomfortable. He pecked her cheek before pulling away awkwardly. That's when he noticed a few flashes and them being swarmed by paparazzi.

Justin Collins was not a dumb man, he knew a good deal when he heard one and when a couple offered him five thousand dollars to sit in front of a penthouse building for houses and just wait, he jumped at it. Not knowing exactly why until this moment. Taking as many photos as he could, he smiled. This was perfect. He got paid and was about to have a top story as well. But seeing the others come out of their cars and snapping photos he couldn't help but feel a little betrayed. He definitely had to get his photos in before they did.

Seeing the flashes Quinn turned and quickly grabbed Sam, leading him into the building. "Can we not have any privacy!?" She looked over to the security guard. "Please call the police, do something they are trespassing!"

Sam couldn't believe they were being followed. This couldn't be good for the baby, especially since Quinn seems so upset. "Calm down." He told Quinn before turning to the guard. "Is this what we're paying you for? Remove them from the premises oh so help me God, I'll have you doing security at target." The security guard nodded his head before getting on the phone.

"Why don't you go upstairs and get some rest?"

Quinn couldn't help but swoon at the way Sam was stepping up, but they still had ways to go. She could have invited him up but she had plans for that later. She nodded, taking his hand. "Thank you Sam. For everything." She turned to head upstairs. Sam all but practically screamed to the heavens he still loved her today. All she needed to do was wait and he would be hers again.

Sam waited for Quinn to disappear in the elevator before calling an uber and telling them to meet him in the back of the building. Five minutes later, Sam was headed to Blaine's house to get ready for his date with Mercedes. Today was really hectic and he just wanted to cuddle up with Mercedes tonight.
