Chapter twelve

Due to Harry's power, which was only known to a few, he was asked to help with the repairs and changes for Hogwarts. Harry was easily able to work on the dorm rooms so each student now had their own room. They were small but had enough room for them to do their work at their desk, they had enough room to dress and get around their bed. Harry wished this had been done when he was a student since he had to put up with all the noise from the other boys. It would have also helped the other boys when he suffered from nightmares, or vision. But he knew that everyone, it didn't matter who they were, everyone would like a bit of privacy at times. A lot of people were scared of having others in the same room while they slept. Harry felt like that at times, when he was fighting with Ron at the beginning of fourth year and again in fifth year when Seamus thought he was lying. He knew he could have beat them in a fight but when you're asleep, you don't know what the others are up to.

When Hogwarts was ready to open, small booklets went out to all returning students and all new students. It was not just about the changes and the new activities the students could now do. It was to do with the new rules and how now they had ways for all students to be watched to make sure they knew who was causing problems. The letters the students received also mentioned how they would all be tested for their power level, which would take place over the first few months. Harry would take a couple of hours every day to test dozens of students and keep doing that until they all had official records of their power level. This would be the first test on the muggleborns. He would also return whenever a student turned seventeen, which was when they had another power boost. If a student turned seventeen after leaving Hogwarts, they would work on an appointment for when Harry could test them, which would be done at the ministry. Harry had to sign a non disclosure contract, it was so he couldn't tell anyone the scores of people he tested, unless they gave permission. Some people didn't care but there were some who wanted to keep their scores private. Harry understood that as he didn't want others to know but some already did and they had not given any type of oath not to repeat it. He had been lucky, so far, no one has been informed of his score.

Harry had already used the orb the staff. He wanted to laugh when he did Trelawney, she only just passed. If she was one point lower she would be classed as a squib. He knew the reason now why he had never saw her do magic. He hadn't been surprised by McGonagall or Flitwick's scores who had the highest out of all the staff. Sprout was average but since she mainly dealt with plant's she didn't need a lot of power her level was fine for the job she had. She could cast all spells that seventh years could but she didn't have enough power to hold a patronus. She would be able to conjure a patronus, she just couldn't hold it. The spells she needed in her greenhouses were spells that fifth and sixth years learn. The rest of the staff were all average or just above. When a new person was going to be hired, Harry was sent a message so he could make arrangements to test the new staff member. Now it was time to test the students. The only one that won't be tested was Ginny.

Harry had another meeting with the governors before the students returned to Hogwarts.

'Amos requested that you show the students the racing league obstacle course.' Madelene said

'I don't mind and I can work it for the day I'm going to test students power scores. Since it's still summer, they can come outside right after their last class'

'Wonderful. Now as you can see from the files in front of you, it shows exactly what has been spent to replace everything that was needed. It also shows how much it cost to build the new sports arena, the obstacle course, the swimming pool and the racing league course. We actually came under budget. But as you can also see, there have been a lot of donations. I'm not talking about the donation Harry made. Just ordinary people giving what money they could spare. Even some students gave up their allowance. When they heard how much had to be replaced and the changes that were happening, they wanted to help. Some gave a galleon, some gave ten galleons. I believe we should place a letter in the Daily Prophet, thanking everyone that donated. I know Minister Shacklebolt had worked on funds for Hogwarts from the confiscated vaults, but since we've had all those donations, the minister can now update and make the ministry better now they have all the funds they will need for years to come.'

Everyone agreed that the people who donated should be thanked, but also have their names printed in the paper. Since it was already known that Harry donated two million galleons, he didn't want to be named again.

Harry got home early for a change, found Sally working on one of her paintings. He didn't like to disturb her, so even though she would have heard him come in, he watched until she was ready to put more paint on her brush or clean her brush. Only then did he kiss her.

Since Harry was home early, Sally decided to call it a day with her art. It wasn't very often that Harry and Sally had enough time that they could just laze outside with a drink, until dinner. That's exactly what they did. They got a drink then sat outside.

'As I was leaving the ministry, Arthur caught up with me. It seems Ron and Hermione had some big blow up, they broke up before she left the Burrow. She went home to her parents. Arthur also told me she had began to apply for jobs, but every job she applied for she was not suitable for due to her power score. She ended up having a big tantrum and demanded to speak with Kingsley. She didn't even call him minister. She went on about being a hero of the war and should be allowed any job she wanted. Kingsley ended up having to call his auror guards to escort her out. But he did tell her that with the way she was acting and her attitude, she will never work for the ministry of magic. He told her straight that she would be best returning to the muggle world.'

'I bet she didn't like that, any of that.'

'She didn't, she actually pulled her wand. One of the aurors stunned her. She always believed she was faster than everyone else, apart from me, which always pissed her off. She's in one of the holding cells. It's a serious crime to threaten the Minister for Magic so she will face the Wizengamot.'

'Even I'm surprised she went that far.'

'We all are, but we knew she expected to be able to pick and choose when it came to a job, due to her intelligence and because she was with me before and during the Battle of Hogwarts. She was told about the scores people have to have for certain jobs. She acted like that didn't apply to her, when it applies to everyone, no matter who they are. Anyway, it seems she's burned her bridges. There's more though. Arthur spoke with Ginny and found out that Hermione had been telling her she was perfect for me and she had to make sure we got back together. I explained to you how Ginny and I spoke. We realised we wanted different things. Ginny loves attention where I hate it. She goes out a lot now she's an adult, where I'm not one for going to pubs. We talked it all out and knew we weren't right for each other. The trouble with Hermione wasn't just you being picked as the muggleborn representative, it was because Ginny and I weren't going to get back together. It's why she acted that way towards you that day. It wouldn't matter if she liked you or not, she would never accept you because you weren't Ginny. Arthur's not sure why she wanted me and Ginny together. He figures it's just that it would mean I would still spend a lot of time with her and Ron. But we all know that even family members hardly see each other when they began work or have their own families.'

'It sounds like she liked the idea of staying close to you. She never took me as someone that would use another person, but it sounds like she was, with you, to keep you close.'

'Yeah, but she's out of my life now. We did have a lot of good times, she just lost my trust a long time ago and she knew it. Anyway, Arthur told me that Ron is now a professional quidditch player for the Chudley Cannons. He's only a reserve at the moment, but he was told that will only be for a year. He just needs this first year to get used to the training which is a lot more than he had ever done before. Even if Ron always stayed a reserve, he would be happy since this is his dream and the Cannons are his team. I asked Arthur to tell Ron we'll come to a game, when we get a chance.'

'I'm please for him. But after everything you've told me about Ron and Hermione, to me, they wouldn't work as they have nothing in common.'

'I never thought they would but it wasn't my place to say. I knew if I said anything a year ago, Ron would have believed I liked her. He used to get so jealous. He knows the truth now. Arthur did say Ron would write so he could work on meeting up, even if it's just to have a drink and catch up. Since we're all busy now with our adults lives and relationships, we know we won't get to see each other as often.'

'We can remain friends with people we grew up with or went to school with but sometimes it just means we only see each other occasionally and work on times to see each other. Now Ron is working and he is doing something he always loved, he understands that it won't be possible to see each other all the time. We will try to work on times to see our friends and family, it's just not always possible.'

Harry nodded. He knew it was true. They were all adults now and had their own lives. He would see his friends, when he could, just right now, they were all busy. He didn't see Sally until he came home from work. He might only be working part time, yet right now he was busy because everything was still being set up for Hogwarts and the ministry.

Even though Harry would still like to make brooms, he was really enjoying his work with the orb and with the governors. He knew eventually that work would drop off so he would only be working a few hours a day for only three days a week. It would be then that he would begin to work on making brooms.

Harry also hoped the racing league took off, which he believed it would. Even if people didn't want to do it as a competition, it could be a way for people to just have fun or if they were stressed, they could fly the course which could help. Harry loved to fly but whenever he had a problem or was stressed, flying is what helped.

Harry knew would like to be able to use a course occasionally and maybe enter the odd competition. Kingsley did say that he planned to work on a proper competition for everyone. Once he got the staff for all the departments, then he would speak with the head of the department of games and sports. Its time to add more sports to the wizarding world.
