The Sister:

From the moment Voldemort died and Harry Potter left hogwarts, he stayed at Godric's Hollow. It was the one place he wanted to be, at the home he had shared with his parents, even if it was only for a short time.

Since he was now considered the saviour of the wizarding world, Harry wanted to stay away from crowded areas, so staying at a small town like Godric's Hollow was perfect. It was also mainly muggles that lived there and muggles had no idea who Harry was. The people in the town remembered that the Potter's had lived there years before, now a Potter had returned to his home town.

Molly Weasley wanted Harry to stay at the Burrow. She mainly believed Harry was too young to live alone. But as Harry told her, he was an adult and he had been looking after himself since he was five years old. He also explained that he wanted to learn as much as he could about his parents and the only way to do that was in their home. The house might need fixing, but with magic, it wouldn't take long at all.

Hermione and Ron, Harry's best friends understood even if they wished he would stay with them at the Burrow. They could visit even if they didn't want Harry to spend all his time alone.

Ginny had hoped Harry stayed at the Burrow. She was hoping they would get back together. It was the war that made them break up but the war was over now. She decided to give Harry some time.

Harry did begin dating Ginny, but the one thing he told her was that he wouldn't see her every day. He really wanted some time alone and time to learn about his parents. He now had time and he was staying at his parents home. He finally felt his life was looking up.

Harry had been going through pictures and old letters, anything he could to learn more about his parents. It was when he found a file that completely shocked him.

Harry couldn't believe what he was reading. After finding the safe behind the large picture of his parents and him when he was a baby, he instantly pulled all the files and papers out. He sat them on his father's old desk and began to go through them. He found things like his birth certificate, his parents birth certificate's and their wedding certificate. He had expected those. There were health files, on when his mother had been pregnant so he got to read how his mother's health was during that time.

It was the file that was on the bottom that he was now staring at and he was having trouble trying to come to terms what he was reading. He knew he would have to go through everything before he could decide what to do.

Harry ended up grabbing a beer, he drank half of it in one go before he began to carefully and slowly read everything.

'Bloody hell,' Harry stared down at the words that he never thought he would read, 'I have a sister, a sister that's a year older than me. No one told me, I didn't even get any hint there I had a sister, not even from Sirius.'

Harry went through everything but couldn't find any information on why his sister was hidden but also the reason she had been sent away. He knew it must have something to do with the prophecy but if his parents sent her away because he was the boy from the prophecy, why didn't they hide him as well. Why didn't they all disappear and hide in the muggle world in another country? They sent his sister Rose to another country, they all could have went there and hidden.

Harry found out that his parents had used the obliviation charm on anyone that knew they had a daughter. Now Harry knew why no one ever mentioned her, they didn't remember. He had been angry that no one told him about Rose, especially sirius and remus. Now he found out the truth, they didn't remember Rose Lily Potter.

'I have to find her. I'm not sure I should tell her, she might be settled and have a family of her own. But she has the right to know. She's an adult now. If it was me, I would want to know even if I had another family.'

Harry thought he could observe her before he decided if he could explain everything to her. She could be happy and she also might not know anything about her real family.

Harry finished his beer as he stood up, 'Well, I'll go straight there. I'll be able to decide what to do once I'm there. I could work on renting a place, short term, maybe for a few months.'

Harry began making some quick plans. He knew he would make his own portkey. Dumbledore had told him how in case he needed to escape the Dursley's in a hurry. Dumbledore didn't believe he would need it but he thought Harry knowing how would be the safest option. Since his home was under the fidelius charm, the ministry would not know he had cast the portus charm. He would need to write a couple of notes, one to Ginny, Hermione and Ron, one to Kingsley. He was only thinking of Kingsley as the man did say he would eventually need Harry to give him a full account of everything to do with voldemort.

'He'll just have to wait. I'm going to find my sister. I'm sure he will understand.'

Harry decided to write the notes but not send them until he had organised everything. He needed Kreacher to go to his vault so he would have plenty of money. He would need half changed into muggle money. He had no idea what Australia was like, so he wasn't sure if he would be staying in a muggle area or a wizarding area. He had no idea if his sister had a muggle family or a wizarding family. There was nothing written about where she ended up.

Harry had to do some quick shopping for some decent clothes. Harry realised he wouldn't be able to leave until the following day.

The following morning while everyone at the Burrow eating breakfast, an owl flew inside and landed in front of Hermione.

'I don't recognise the owl,' Ron said.

'No, neither do I,' Hermione took the letter, gave the owl some food of her plate then watched it leave before she unfolded the note, 'It's addressed to me, Ron and Ginny, it's from Harry.'

'What's it say?' Ginny asked urgently.

'Why would he send an owl instead of just coming here?' Ron asked.

"Hermione, Ron and Ginny, I have to leave for a while. I found some important information on my family but I don't have time to explain in person. I'm not sure how long I'll be gone but I will send another owl once I know more. Sorry I can't explain, but hopefully I will be able to write more soon, Harry." Hermione finished reading.

'He didn't say where he was going,' Ginny said.

'His family were all born here Ginny, so I would say he needs to spend time in the muggle world. If it's about his father's family, he could just go to the ministry for information,' arthur said.

'I think you're right Mr Weasley. He might have found some information on his mother's family. He said his aunt refused to speak about her sister and never told Harry anything about his mother. There are a lot of information Harry could get on his mother and her family from muggle government departments,' Hermione said.

'But he said I have to leave. If he was looking for information on his parents, why would he say leave and not just something like he wouldn't see us.' Ginny said.

'Maybe his mother was born in wales or even spain. No one ever spoke about Lily Potter apart from what happened that night,' arthur said. 'It is strange though, he can apparate so he wouldn't need to leave.'

'Harry told me once that he wished he had more time with Sirius so he could get information on his parents. He also told me that whenever he asked anyone from the original order of the phoenix or the teachers about his parents, they would be evasive or say it was time to put the past to rest. All Harry wanted was some information on his parents, yet no one would tell him,' Hermione said.

'I would say he got tired of no one giving him any information and decided to find it himself. To do that, he would need to go into that house,' Arthur said.

'But it looks like it could fall down at any time,' Hermione said.

'From what I know, albus did cast some charms on the house when they had to get Lily and James' bodies out of the house. He had some of the order with him, which was a few days later. Maybe they stabilised the house for when they were in there but also if Harry did want to visit when he was older. I'm sure Harry will explain more in his next letter,' Arthur said.

'Yeah, but I'm still worried about why he said he left,' Ginny said.

First thing the following morning, Hermione had decided to write to Harry but for the three of them. She used Ron's owl, Pig to send her letter. Everyone at the Burrow was surprised when Pig returned with the letter, it was unopened.

'That proves he is not in this country,' Arthur said, 'You will need to use an overseas post owl.'

'Let's go to Hogsmeade and do that straight away,' Ginny said.

Ron, Hermione and Ginny apparated away from the Burrow. They landed in Hogsmeade where they went straight to the post office. They paid for an overseas owl, attached the letter, then whispered to the owl who it was for. They watched the owl leave before the stepped out of the shop.

'It could take a day, a few days or even a week before he gets the letter. It will depend on where he is,' Hermione said.

'I would say a day or so. I mean his mother and his aunt grew up here and his aunt had a English accent.'

'Yes, she did not have any other accent, not that I heard anyway. We'll just have to wait until Harry writes.'

'Do you think Harry found out he had second cousins or aunts from his mother's side?'

'I would say it's something like that since he did say he found something about his family.'

Hermione, Ron, Ginny along with molly and Arthur were beginning to get worried when after a week, they still hadn't received an owl from Harry.

'If it's taking this long then it means he is not in this country or places like Spain or even France,' Arthur said.

'Maybe he's in america. I read the information at the post office about how long it takes the owls to get from her to different countries. Owls will take from five to seven days to reach America. If he is there, then we have another five to seven days to wait until his letter reaches us,' Hermione said.

'There isn't anything we can do, we just have to wait until Harry replies,' Arthur said. What he didn't say was he was worried. He wasn't sure why, he just had a feeling that was telling him he probably wouldn't see the young man again. If they did, it wouldn't be for a very long time.

It was nearly three months before another strange owl flew into the Burrow and landed in front of Hermione.

'It's Harry's writing,' Hermione said excitedly as she took the letter from the owl. Molly got the owl a drink and gave it something to eat.

'Hurry up Hermione,' Ginny said.

'Dear everyone, I got your letter, wrote a reply straight away. I haven't had a chance to write before as I've been a bit busy. If you wrote straight away then it took about forty days to reach me. I'm in Australia which is why it took so long to reach me. Now I can finally fill you in on why I left in such a hurry.

'I found some information in the house in Godric's Hollow. It was hidden in a secret safe. I have an older sister named Rose. She was taken to Australia and given to a second cousin of my mother's. They moved there a long time ago. Everyone in England that knew about Rose was obliviated of the information, which is why no one knew anything about her.

'Anyway, Rose was hidden away because of the prophecy but she had all the information about who her parents are, or were, along with information on me and the prophecy. It was left in a vault my parents set up for her but the information could not be given to her until she turned twenty. My second cousin was supposed to fill her in if the war with Voldemort was over, but sadly, they were killed in a car accident two years ago. Rose was at school at the time, doing her last year. My cousin and his family were magical, so it seems my mother wasn't the first witch in the family.

'Anyway, I finally found my sister, we spoke for hours. I had to fill her in on everything and she told me about her life with our cousin. She had been told who her real family was and why she was in another country. She realised how dangerous it was, even if she would have preferred to stay with her parents and brother.

'I can't really believe it even after speaking with her, I have a sister, a year older than me. She's great and really smart. She's in her second year in doing her masters in potions, then she plans to do her masters in charm and then ancient runes. She's promised to teach me potions since I explained to her about the death eater who harassed students at Hogwarts.

'We spoke so much and one thing she did say and I happen to agree with her, she was glad she never went to Hogwarts. I know most of you will not like this but after hearing about Rose's school, I wish I went there and not Hogwarts. It has more subjects for one. They have a strict no bullying code, students get expelled. Also what I like is the fact that you arrive by floo in the morning and leave of an afternoon. The ministry here set up a public library for students if they need to borrow books. Also, their school will allow orphans to live there if they haven't a good reason why they can't stay somewhere else or they have no family. I definitely would have stayed instead of putting up with the Dursley's.

'I still can't say how long I will be gone for, I want to spend as much time with my sister. That is so strange to write and even stranger to see it. We actually look a lot alike, except her long hair sits nice and neat. It made me decide to grow my hair long so it will sit better. She has the same green eyes, from our mother, but we look like our father.

'She was left the house from our cousin, so she invited me to stay there with her. Even though she is studying for her master's, we spend ever morning together and every evening. I usually see some of this beautiful country while she's gone through the day. I tell you one thing though, the weather here is wonderful. Its winter here but it feels like summer. I've even gone swimming in the beautiful pacific ocean. She lives within walking distance to the beach so I do spend a lot of time there. I love watching the surfers. It makes me want to learn to surf, something that Rose can do and said she would teach me if I want. She's been surfing since she was seven years old so she has a lot of experience.

'This letter is getting long, so I'll sign off now but I'll write again soon, just can't say when.

Harry.'

'He has a sister, blimey,' Ron said.

'Now I know why he left so quickly. I would do the same. They will have a lot to talk about and take time to get to know each other,' Hermione said going over the letter again, 'Her school sounds great as well. I mean more subjects would have been great and she's doing her masters, in three subjects. She must be very smart.'

Molly and Ginny wasn't sure what to think. Molly didn't like the way Harry spoke about Hogwarts. Ginny hated the fact that Harry wouldn't be coming home in a hurry. Soon she would be back at Hogwarts so she doubt she would see him before she returned. She just hoped he came home soon.

Harry sent another letter a couple of months later. Right after he sent it he had a big talk with his sister. He had a feeling they should work on some wards around their home, maybe even the fidelius charm. He knew how corrupt the English ministry was, he would not allow them to try to make him return. He was staying with his sister in Australia.

The next letter didn't arrive until Hermione, Ron and Ginny had returned to Hogwarts. Hermione read the letter to Ron and Ginny while they were eating breakfast. It shocked all of them.

'He's not coming home,' Hermione said softly.

'He found family Hermione and wants to stay with her,' Neville said who heard Hermione when she read out Harry's letter, 'I can understand that.'

'We were dating and now he just said he's not returning, at all,' Ginny growled. She ended up hurrying out of the great hall. She had a letter to write, to the minister for magic. She wanted to find out if there was any way he could force Harry to return. He was the saviour, his life was in England, not in another country.

By the time kingsley did some investigation, he found out that there was now no chance of Harry Potter returning to England. He would have to inform Harry's friends, girlfriend and everyone else. Harry Potter gave up his English citizenship and became an Australia. He also joined the racing league which was becoming more popular in other countries. He still contacted the Australian minister, who was cold and rude. He said he had given Harry Potter a guarantee that no one could force him to leave. After hearing how the ministry was run in England, he could not blame the young man for wanting nothing to do with it or it's people. He saved them twice and he had to save himself many times.

Kingsley decided to speak with Harry's friends personally so he went to Hogwarts and had the headmistress tell them to meet him in her office. None of them took the news well, except Neville. He said what he said before. Harry finally had family and he wasn't giving it up. He never had a good life here, so there was nothing to make him stay. Neville ended up leaving the meeting and decided he would write his own letter to Harry. He wanted Harry to know he understood and just hoped he had a better life now than he did before.

Ginny was furious, but she realised there was nothing she could do. Hermione was sad that she will never see her friend again. But she did wonder if maybe Harry would check up on her parents and see how they were. Ron was upset but also angry that his best friend left and would not be returning.

Harry on the other hand had never been happier. He loved his sister and loved his new life. Apart from flying in the racing league, Rose was teaching him potions and teaching him how to surf. They had both decided to continue to share the house until they got into serious relationships. When that happened, Harry would buy himself a house, but he would make sure it was close to his sister.

One thing Harry knew from the first time he went to the beach. There were a lot of beautiful young woman and all of them wearing bikini's. If he continued to date Ginny, it would be very old fashion bathing suits. But it made him realise that he had been very isolated. He really only began dating Ginny because apart from Hermione, she was the only girl he spent time with. Because of how he was thought of, the-boy-who-lived and saviour, he could never trust the girls at Hogwarts. Many only wanted him because of how he was thought of. Now he will get to know girls who didn't have any idea who he was so if they liked him, it was for him, not the-boy-who-lived.

Yes Harry thought to himself, he finally had everything he wanted. He had a great place to live and he had a sister, family. This was his life now and nothing was going to ruin that for him.

The end:
