Seeing What Their Lives Will Be Like:
Harry Potter resumed his previous relationship with Ginny Weasley after voldemort was dead. She returned to the Burrow with his family, Harry stayed at Grimmauld place. He figured while he had time, he might try to fix the old house and turn it into a home. He needed somewhere to live and he did own it. He thought it could make a great home once everything dark was gone, along with much of of the carpets and other furnishings.
Harry had a few months to work on the house before he returned to hogwarts to finish his last year. He also needed to make time for his girlfriend, along with his friends and his godson. He didn't go out at all, mainly because he had more people staring at him and many people asking for autographs and for pictures of him. Ever since it was known he killed voldemort, he couldn't get any peace when he was out. He mainly stayed in or used the floo to the Burrow and Andromeda's place when he went to visit Teddy. When he needed to buy food or clothes, he would sneak away using his invisibility cloak and shop in the muggle world.
By the time the students returned to hogwarts, Harry had the house half finished. He had closed off the third floor since he knew it wouldn't be used. If anytime in the future where he had children and visitors staying, it might get used then. He would have time to do those rooms over the years.
Once Harry had it all stripped back from anything that would show the wizarding world, Harry had muggle contractors come and connect the house to electricity then more muggles to come in to do the kitchen and the bathrooms. Harry wanted a muggle home, not a wizarding home. He had spoken to Kingsley a few times, he was able to show Harry a spell that would prevent powerful magic from being used which will protect his muggle electronics. He could use some very basic spells, things that only up to a fourth year would learn. The spell would not work in a place like Hogwarts or the ministry as magic was needed all the time.
Now he was back at hogwarts with his girlfriend and all his friends. Harry still had people staring at him and many asked if he would sign pictures of him. At first, he wasn't going to but many little first years asked and he just couldn't say no. He also got asked to sign his chocolate frog card. The new chocolate frog cards had been released two weeks before the students returned to hogwarts.
Harry had a feeling that he would get a card, since Albus Dumbledore did after his defeat of grindelwald. That made Harry think of the order of merlin and wondered if he would be given that award. He wouldn't accept mainly because of people who had been awarded the order of merlin. Peter pettigrew, who betrayed his family and got his parents killed. Cornelius Fudge who helped voldemort take over by denying the truth and allowed his undersecretary to torture students. Gilderoy lockhart who turned out to be a fraud, then Albus Dumbledore. He might have earned his, but Harry came to hate the man due to all his secrets, his lies and his manipulation. He still blamed Dumbledore for Sirius dying. If only Dumbledore explained about the prophecy sooner, Harry might not have been tricked into going to the department of mysteries. He had sent a letter to Dumbledore about what he was seeing but the man did not tell Harry what it meant. Harry will never forgive Dumbledore for keeping so many secrets from him.
It was not long before the Christmas new year holidays that he got word about a memorial ceremony that would be held at Hogwarts.
'Did you hear Harry, about the memory ball? Even though it will be sad, it will be a party afterwards. We could have a lot of fun,' Ginny said excitably.
'I won't be going.'
'But Harry, you have to go. You killed him so you have to be there.'
'No, I don't have to be there and I won't be going.'
'Am I supposed to go alone? My fiance won't go with me.'
'Go with your friends if you really want to go. I did tell you this Ginny, I won't be going to balls or parties. A friends party, yeah, but I won't have anything to do with the ministry or any of their bullshit. Now I'm going to be late for class. I'll see you at lunch.'
Ginny watched Harry walk away. She remembered when Harry said he wouldn't be going to official balls or parties. She figured he would just need time since he did say that only a few weeks after it was all over. Now seven months later, he was still saying it. She was beginning to believe Harry really meant it, which would mean that if she wanted to go to one of these balls or got invited herself, then she would be going without Harry. They were planning their wedding for the end of August yet she begun to realised just what her life with Harry will be like.
It wasn't until the following morning that Hermione cornered Harry about the memorial ball.
'Ginny told me you won't be going and I know that can't be true.'
'It is true, I will not be going.'
'Ginny will be your wife, what will people say if you don't take her?'
'I don't give a damn what people say, I got over that a long time ago. I already told Ginny she can go with her friends, I won't be going. So drop it Hermione or expect to be ignored,' Harry left the Gryffindor common room and headed down through the castle and to the great hall.
Hermione had tried to talk to Harry when he said to drop something and he did ignore her. He acted like he couldn't see her or hear her. He did threaten her that their friendship would be over if she kept going on about things he didn't want to hear. One thing Harry refused to talk about, was Voldemort. He literally left if someone brought Voldemort up in conversation. Now she knew if she kept talking about the memorial, he might just stop being her friend. That would make it difficult when she was now good friends with Ginny who was planning on marrying Harry.
Right as Harry was dishing up his breakfast, a first year Hufflepuff girl stood near him and held out some parchment.
'What's that?'
'I was asked to give you this from the headmistress, Mr Potter.'
'oh, alright then, thanks,' Harry took the note. He had told the younger kids that he's name was Harry but they insisted on calling him Mr Potter. He still didn't like it but he was used to it now. He read the note then went back to his breakfast. The note might have said she wanted to see him straight away but he learned not to skip meals. He was going to finish eating before he went to see just what mcgonagall wanted.
It was half an hour later that Harry left the great hall. He made his way slowly up to the headmistress's office. There were no gargoyle's guarding the stairway, so he just went up and saw the door open. He noticed straight away that McGonagall wasn't alone. The minister for magic was in the office as well.
He knocked but didn't enter.
'Come in Mr Potter,' minerva said then gestured towards the seat.
'I'll stand.'
'I expected you a half an hour ago.'
'I was having breakfast when the girl gave me your note. I refuse to skip meals, done enough of that. So what can I do for you headmistress?'
'I actually wanted to see you Harry, about a rumour that came to my attention.'
'You of all people should realised most rumours about me are false minister. You were part of the order of the phoenix when all those rumours went around about me.'
'Yes, I know. This time though, I have a feeling this rumour is true.'
'What is it this time? I'm the next dark lord or I'm the reincarnated soul of Merlin. Oh, I know, I'm really Albus Dumbledore and I invented a way to copy myself then took some type of de-ageing potion so there would be on older and one younger. That one actually made me laugh.'
'No, it's nothing like that. I heard that you said you would not be attending the memorial ball that is being held here on the second of may.'
'That's not a rumour, it's true, I won't be attending or having anything to do with it.'
'We plan to award the Order of Merlin, first class for you.'
'Give it to the victims, I don't want to be associated with that award in any way.'
'Why in the name of Merlin would you not want the Order of Merlin when it's the highest award in our world?'
'Okay, first, Fudge, he had one and look what he did. Second, the rat, he also had one. Third, Lockhart who was a fraud. Fourth, the idiot in the picture up there on the wall and we all know how he screwed with my life from the time my parents died, he also had one. So no, I do not want to be associated with those people. Two might be dead but they are still my enemies, yet they got a nice shiny award. Is that all since you won't change my mind.'
Kingsley knew there was no use trying to get Harry to change his mind. He also knew the young man had a point. Three of those people hurt Harry more than most and they had all been given the the Order of Merlin. The fourth had tried to obliviate him. Kingsley heard the bitterness in Harry's voice even after all this time. He couldn't blame Harry for being bitter.
'Alright, Harry, I get it. You can go,' Kingsley sighed again as he watched Harry leave the office, 'I can't say he's wrong. Maybe we should come up with a new type of award, one that isn't associated with anyone that hurt him.'
'The castle will be in lock down minister, so Mr Potter will be here.'
'You could do that minerva but it doesn't mean he will accept an award or even go into the great hall. It will also make him angry and you know he won't care if he embarrasses us.'
'I will be announcing that if any student does not turn up for the memorial ball, they will not be sitting their exams, which means they will fail. He only returned to finish his education.'
'That might work. All we can do is try but I will work on another award.'
'The Order of the Phoenix,' minerva said.
'No, Albus was the leader and you heard what Harry thinks of him. No, it has to be something not associated with Albus, the ministry or any death eater, which include people like Fudge.'
Minerva and Kingsley stayed talking for a couple of hours to make sure they had a name for a new award. They also worked on making sure Harry would be at the memorial ball.
It was two days later that the Christmas holidays began. Most of the older students didn't take the train home for the holidays, they apparated. Most didn't want to spend all day on the train when it would only take a few seconds to get home. Harry was going to the Burrow for Christmas day, but before that, he was heading home. He wanted some time alone and some peace and quiet. He also wanted to visit Teddy while he was home for the holidays.
The first two days at home, Harry got a few letters from people asking why he wouldn't go to the memorial ball. He didn't bother answering any of them. After he threw the letters in the fire, something occurred to him.
'It's being held at Hogwarts. It wouldn't be difficult for the headmistress to force all the students to go to the memorial ball. She could also lock down the castle so no one could leave,' the more Harry thought about it, the more he knew it to be true. Someway, he will be forced to attend if he was at Hogwarts.
'Well, it looks like I'm not returning to get my newts. Maybe now is the time to go away.'
Harry had been wanting to go away but he just didn't get time. First was the funerals, then it was all the trials for the death eaters or people like Fudge and Umbridge. During this time he had resumed his relationship with Ginny and he knew her parents wouldn't allow her to go away with him. Ginny would be upset if he decided to go away for a while right after they got back together.
'Ginny will be at Hogwarts for another six months, now would be the perfect time to go away. I'll go see Teddy tomorrow, give him and Andromeda their gifts, then I'll use muggle transport to leave. I couldn't use a portkey otherwise everyone would find out where I was going. I'll send a letter off to Ginny so she would know and they could work on the wedding plans when he returned.'
Harry also knew he needed to get Ginny a ring. Again, he just hasn't had any time, now he will.
It was a few days later that a strange owl flew into the Burrow and over to Ginny who was having breakfast with her family. Ginny removed the letter and began to read.
'Harry won't be coming on Christmas day,' Ginny sighed, 'He said since he didn't have time before, he realised now was the perfect time to go away for a while. He also wanted to be away before the memorial ball.'
'I am going there to speak with that boy,' Molly said.
'There's no use, he left yesterday. He organised the letter to be sent today, after he had left. He said he wants a relaxing and quiet holiday so he's planning on visiting some rain forests and museums. He won't be returning for at least a couple of months.'
'I know he didn't want to go to the ball but why not return to Hogwarts to finish his education?' Hermione asked.
'Probably because the memorial ball was being held at Hogwarts and they might find some way to force him to go,' george said, 'It's everyone's choice if they go or not. Harry doesn't want to.'
'He is the one that saved everyone, he should go,' Molly said.
'He won't and his made sure he can't be forced. It is Harry's choice and he made it,' Arthur said. He noticed Ginny seemed to be thinking about something and he had a feeling he knew what his daughter was thinking about.
The following day, Arthur was working in the shed when Ginny stepped in. He had been expecting his daughter to come speak with him. If Ginny needed to talk and get some advice, she wouldn't talk to her mother as Molly had a habit of getting angry and not say anything constructive. She also believed everyone should take her advice whether it was right or not. Ginny would often come to speak to him. If Arthur wasn't available, Ginny did speak with her two older brothers when they were home. Charlie was back in Romania and Bill was away working as a curse breaker, his wife was with him.
'Is this about you and Harry?'
Ginny gave her father a small smile as she nodded, 'Just after it was all over, Harry said some things that I didn't think he was serious about. He said it again when he first heard about the memorial ball so I know now he was serious. I'm not sure I can have a life with Harry when he doesn't really want to do anything. He never goes out, he doesn't want to go to balls or parties and he keeps saying he wants a quiet and peaceful life. I've heard so many say that they want to enjoy every minute of their life since they almost died before they had a chance to live. Why wouldn't Harry want that?'
'Because of his life. Yes, he could enjoy his free life now but he's had serious for so long, it's made him who he is and I doubt he will change. He was treated terribly by those muggles. He was also treated terribly by Snape and Albus allowed that. He went through so much at Hogwarts that he just seemed to close himself off. He doesn't care what is written about him anymore. If there is some bad rumour going around, he ignores it. His life since his parents died made him who is he. Right now, this is when you should think whether staying with Harry is worth it. You two might love each other but you are both very different. The only thing I see right now that you have in common is quidditch. I also have a feeling that Harry will stay mostly in the muggle world to get that peace he wants so much.'
'I'm already thinking that we aren't suited because he doesn't want to do anything or go anywhere. I get he doesn't like everyone staring at him which is the reason he refuses to go out. But I'm an adult now, I want to experience many different things. If I stayed with Harry, I'd be experiencing them by myself. He had the house connected to muggle electricity and cast some wards so most magic won't work in that house. That would mean I have to learn how to do things like cook the muggle way. Before we returned to Hogwarts, we did go out to dinner once, only once and it was to a muggle restaurant. He's already spending more time in the muggle world than here. I know it's going to be up to me to decide, but please dad, what is your opinion? Should we stay together or should I walk away now, before we are tied together by marriage?'
'It really is up to you to decide. But...in my opinion on what I've seen and heard, I believe you should end it now so you can put that relationship to rest and begin your life, fresh. I urge you though to seriously think about this though. I know you love him and it would hurt you to end it, but it could be for the best, in the long run.'
Ginny hugged her father, 'Thanks dad.'
It was only a few days later that Ginny ended up going to the post office to send an overseas owl with her letter to Harry. Her letter saying that she was ending the relationship. She did write her reasons, which is something Harry had said to her when she asked if they could get back together. She knew Harry would understand and she finally understood why Harry said they should take it slow. At first she wanted to get married straight away, Harry wanted them both to take some time, now she was glad that Harry insisted they wait until after they finished their education. Even though they did love each other, what they both wanted in their lives was complete opposite to the other.
Ginny hadn't told anyone that she ended her relationship with Harry and didn't plan to, at least not yet. Her father already knew what she was going to do but Ginny knew her dad would keep that to himself, until she decided to tell people she was now single.
When the students returned to Hogwarts, minerva ended up angry that Harry Potter did not return. She spoke with Ginny, Hermione and Ron. They all said he went away for a while, overseas and wouldn't be back for months. Minerva had a feeling that Harry worked out what she had planned so he would have to go to the memorial ball. She would now have to inform the minister that the main guest of honour will not be attending the ball. She was in two minds about Harry Potter. She was angry that he refused to attend the memorial ball. She was also feeling a bit guilty that the young man that saved everyone left before finishing his education just because he didn't want to go to the ball. She felt partially to blame that Harry will not be sitting his newts.
It took a few weeks but Kingsley cancelled the memorial ball. He spoke with many people and all of them said the same thing, without Harry Potter, the saviour, there was no use putting on a ball.
It only took a week before Ron approached Ginny, 'You haven't mentioned Harry since Christmas. What's going on Ginny?'
Ginny sighed, 'When Harry and I spoke about getting back together, he explained some things to me. He told me he wouldn't be going to balls or parties. He said he wanted a quiet life. He told me to take my time and think if this was the life I would want. I thought he just might needed some time, but we all saw how Harry has been. He said we could take it slow until I see if a life with him is what I want. I realise I don't want that type of life. I'm an adult now and I plan to go out, a lot. If I stayed with Harry, I would be going alone.'
'He should go with you,' Ron snapped.
'You can't force someone to do something they don't want. We've all seen how Harry is and we've heard him say that no one will ever control his life again. That's why I sent Harry a letter telling him we should end it, we have. Only dad knew and he happened to agree with me. Harry and I are not suited so it's best to end it before we tied ourselves together by getting married. You have to understand Ron, he is different to me, a lot different so really, we aren't suited. Dad made sense, I need to end it quickly than take some time before seeing who just might be right for me.'
Ron sighed, 'Neville said it once, that you and Harry were very different. He said the same with me and Hermione, yet we make it work. You couldn't handle always having to go out alone and it wouldn't be right. Okay, I get it and I know you can't force people to go out and do things if they don't want to. So he knows.'
'Yes, he replied straight away. We're still friends but he believes it will be easier on me if he doesn't go to the Burrow or wherever I am, until we've been apart for a while. He doesn't want to hurt me so when he gets back, he'll work on you and Hermione visiting him instead of coming to the Burrow.'
'It would be better on you. But mum doesn't know, does she?'
'No and I'm not telling her yet. When I do, I'll be able to say we haven't been together in months. Since Harry's away, there's no chance of him or a story about him ending up on the front page of the Daily Prophet. Just keep it to yourself for now Ron, I want to get through this year without any drama and if people found out that Harry and I aren't together anymore, I'm bound to be blamed. I also do not want to put up with mum's howlers.'
'She would send you one so I'll keep it to myself. Harry would probably have wards around his place so no howler will get in.'
'When he told me about warding his home, he said he planned to add a lot, so yeah, he would make sure no howler, cursed letters or portkeys could get through his wards.'
It was a week after Ginny finished at Hogwarts when she finally told her mother that her and Harry broke up right after he left for his holiday and it was her that told Harry that it would be for the best. Ginny had waited until her father was home before she told her mother. It was her father that stopped Molly Weasley going on. Arthur then explained how he spoke with Ginny months before and believed that breaking up then was better for Ginny and Harry.
That is when Hermione found out. She ended up having a go at Ron for not telling her. Ron had a go back and said they were through as he would not put up with his girlfriend yelling and accusing him of things he didn't do. Ginny had a go at Hermione and explained she made Ron promise to not tell anyone, as it was to do with her life and nothing to do with Hermione or anyone else. She didn't want anyone to find out until she finished Hogwarts. Hermione ended up packing up and told Ron she was leaving. She hoped he would say sorry, he just nodded and walked out of the room. Hermione realised she would have to leave yet she had no where to go.
Hermione was in tears by the time she got outside the wards of the Burrow. She realised there was a place she could stay at, for a while, then she realised she couldn't remember the place she was going. She knew she had been there and she knew Harry owned it, but she could not remember where it was. She realised she was stranded. She had no home and she didn't have any friends. Her parents memories could not be restored so they were still in Australia. Hermione didn't know what to do. She had only a little money and nowhere to go. She didn't start work for another two weeks, so again, no money.
Harry didn't return to England for a year. He had to do a lot of shopping mainly for food but also for more clothes. When he had been away, he didn't want to carry a lot of luggage so he only packed the few bits of clothing he owned. He bought more while he was away. Once he was settled back into his home, he sent a letter to Ron and Hermione at the Burrow. He sent a permission note with it so they could get into his home.
Harry heard someone knock on the door. When he opened it, he saw Ron but not Hermione.
'Where's Hermione?' Harry asked as he gestured for Ron to follow him inside.
'We broke up months ago. She had a go at me one too many times and the last time was because she found out Ginny ended your relationship and I kept it from her. Ginny asked me to keep it quiet so she could get through her last year without any drama's. I haven't seen her since.'
'Since I addressed the letter to both of you but also to the Burrow, she wouldn't have got it. I will have to write to her and hope an owl can find her. Her parents are in Australia with no memory of her so she doesn't have a home here. She was never close to anyone else.'
'She became friendly with Neville and even Luna but I'm not sure she would have asked to stay with them. At first, I thought she'd come here, then I couldn't remember this place, until I got your permission note.'
'Yeah, I put it under the fidelius charm straight away. Anyway, you've finished Hogwarts, what are you doing now?'
'I'm actually a quidditch player for the Chudley Cannons, just on the reserve team.'
Harry grinned then hugged his friend, 'Congratulations. I'm happy for you. Um, you're not the only Weasley playing quidditch, I hope.'
Ron smiled, 'No, Ginny was picked and plays reserve seeker for the Holyhead Harpies. Gwenog believes it will only be a year before Ginny is on the team properly.'
'She's good enough so it doesn't really surprise me.'
'So, how was your holiday?'
'Great and exactly what I needed.'
'What are you going to do now, especially since you didn't sit your newts?'
Harry smiled then gestured for Ron to follow him into the old drawing room which was now Harry's home office. He picked up some parchment and handed it to Ron.
Ron's eyes widened, 'Seven newts, seven actually o's and two with distinction. How?'
'Did them in New Zealand while I was visiting. I just figured it wouldn't hurt to ask, they said I could sit my newts at their ministry. They explained that many people left this country and went to other countries. They had to do things like take their owls or newts in their new country. Since they knew we were in the midst of a war, a lot of countries expected people to escape so they worked on things like education and newts. Its why I stayed away a bit longer. Once I knew it was possible, I spent two months cramming and I mean I studied non stop until I thought I was ready. I knew I'd get an o in defence and probably charms, herbology, care of magical creatures, maybe transfiguration and I thought I'd just pass potions and astronomy. I didn't expect o's in all seven or two o+ for defence and charms.'
'Well, congratulations. I got an o in defence and ee in charms, care and herbology. Only an a in transfiguration.'
'You got what was needed. That's all I wanted, just to officially pass in a couple of subjects. Even though you broke up, Hermione would have gotten all o's.'
'She got o's in every subject except defence against the dark arts. She got an ee. She could never beat you in that subject.'
'No, she couldn't. Anyway, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I can't work at the ministry, I'd never get to work on time or I would have to leave hours earlier just to get through the atrium. Anyway, what was the ball like?'
'They cancelled it. They said it would be no use having it when you weren't there.'
'I just want to forget the past eighteen years, apart from friends that is,' Harry grinned.
Harry and Ron spoke for hours about everything but Ron knew not to bring up voldemort. They mainly talked about quidditch. But Ron did tell Harry that Ginny was dating and have been now for a few months. She was dating Lee Jordan. Harry actually smiled. He thought those two would be good together as their lives revolved around quidditch. He would always have fond memories of his time with Ginny but now, he was happy she had moved on with someone that she could have a life with.
When Ron left, Harry sent a letter to Hermione. Owls can find any witch or wizard even if you didn't have an address. He hoped she was alright. He never thought Ron and Hermione were suited and it seems he was right. He could never say anything to them as it was to do with their personal lives. He hoped if they ended up with someone that they weren't some boy-who-lived fan and it was someone he could get on with.
It was the following day that Harry heard someone knocking loudly on his front door. He had a muggle pep hole. The moment he saw who it was he opened the door.
'Hermione,' Harry grinned then hugged his friend, 'Ron told me what happened.'
Hermione allowed Harry to pull her into the house and into a nice bright modern muggle kitchen.
'It took me a while to realise I was wrong. I did have a go at Ron when I shouldn't have. I also realise I did it a lot.'
'Yeah, but I couldn't get involved in your personal life. So where did you go?'
'I sat in a park for hours trying to figure out what to do and where to go. I had no money and wasn't due to start work for two weeks. Finally I went to see George, who allowed me to stay in Fred's old room until I could get a flat, which I did, in London.'
'If you sent me an owl I would have sent you a permission note so you could stay here. Oh,' Harry gestured for Hermione to wait and hurried into his office. He hurried back and held out his newt results.
'Oh Harry, this is wonderful. Where did you sit your newts?'
'New Zealand. It seems many overseas ministry allowed people from here to sit their tests because of the war. So many left when he took over. I figured I would ask if there was a possibility and they explained.'
'Two with distinction. I am not surprised. I got one with distinction, in arithmancy.'
'It was always your favourite subject. So, are you single, working, what? Tell me.'
Hermione smiled, 'I'm working in the department of magical law enforcement. I work on new laws or changing old laws. We've abolished all laws that favour pure-bloods. I really enjoy it. I'm still single and I'm happy with that right now. I want to get going in my career then I might see about dating. I know Ron is dating in case you didn't want to say anything. I realised, after a few months, we weren't really suited. I just hope one day we can become friends again. Um, do you know about Ginny?'
'Yep, and I'm happy for her. She's found someone that suits her.'
'What about you? I know you just got back but have you dated at all?'
Harry smiled then sat down, 'I went out with a few woman while I was in Rome, then Australia. When I was in New Zealand I saw a young woman who was also doing her newts and she was English. I didn't speak with her, at first but something bugged me. I realised I recognised her. I finally spoke to her after our last test. She went to Hogwarts for one year, our first year, then left. She realised she could not keep going to her dance lessons and she missed her parents. They moved overseas when she found out...he returned. They always planned to return, but they had to organised things first. They came home a few days ago and are settling in. We are actually going out tonight.'
'That's great but I can't think of who was in our first year then gone.'
'She was in Hufflepuff and was sorted right before me. She's blonde with beautiful blue eyes, not to mention, stacked.'
'Harry,' Hermione squeaked making Harry laugh, 'That doesn't sound like you.'
'I know, I've been doing that a lot lately, saying or doing things I normally wouldn't. Anyway, it's Sally-Anne Perks.'
'Oh, I remember her now, yes, she was standing beside Susan Bones.'
'Yes, they are still friends, they write a lot but haven't seen each other in years. I think this could work Hermione because one thing she wants is what I did, a muggle home. There's a lot we have in common. We just seemed to fit. We're still taking things slow. I've also told her to take everything into consideration. I explained how I'm stared at and written about, so I don't go out a lot. I want her to be prepared.'
'I never said it Harry as it was your personal life but I always had a feeling that you would suit someone like a muggleborn, a squib or even a muggle. I love the wizarding world but my flat is muggle. We have the best of both worlds.'
Harry grinned, 'Yeah, we do. When I explained to Ginny, that was the first time she realised how different we were. It's also why I told her we should take things slow. I wanted her to be sure before she fully committed.'
'She must have if you ended up engaged.'
'She wanted to start a full adult relationship. She believed that we would work but she wanted to be at least engaged before we did anything. I tried to put her off, nothing did. She's fine with it as she knows it was her idea. I'm just glad we're still friends and she's found someone that suits her. I know Ron is dating, he didn't say with who.'
'He's had a lot of dates with different young woman. He realised what it was like to be you. They wanted to be with him because you happen to be his best friend and he was helping you win the war. He is dating Megan Jones. Just like many of us, she's changed, more serious. They fit since she's a big quidditch fan.'
'Yeah, many of us did change. But are you okay with that, Ron dating?'
'I have to be. But I am, I just want him happy. Honestly though, it did hurt for a while, it's for the best though. We are too different and if we remained together, he would want a wizarding home so I would have to give up everything like I did before. I now have a computer and a mobile phone. I'll give you the number.'
'Sally and I have mobile phones. They would have come in handy at Hogwarts, yet they wouldn't have worked.'
'No, you would think with so many intelligent wizards and witches, someone would find a better way to talk to others without kneeling in front of the floo.'
'Actually, I have. While I was away, I began to think of that and studied the mirror that Sirius and my dad had. I figured if I could change it, then it will connect with others, you just need the name of the person. Since I wouldn't want anyone I didn't know contacting me on the mirror, I worked it for our name but also a password. This way if you contact me, I know it's someone I gave my password too. The password is connected to the fidelius charm so you would have to literally tell someone your password but that person couldn't tell someone else. I would just say do it where you aren't overheard. I asked George if we could begin selling them in his shop, he's all for it. Kingsley instantly contacted me. He wanted a demonstrations, so Sally and I showed him. Sally was with her parents when I contacted her. Kingsley has put in an order for more than five hundred mirrors.'
'Harry, that's wonderful. Oh that will be so much better than notes flying all around the ministry, or as we said, kneeling in front of the floo. I might get one from you for personal use.'
'Already working on it. I'm just getting stock up. I only started with twenty mainly to see if people were interested. George called me on a mirror the second day he had them in the shop. They all sold and many kept asking when he would have more. I only just sent him another lot while I'm working on the ministry's order. I can do yours while doing the big order.'
'Thank you. But see, you got the idea from something your father and godfather invented. You just made it better. I'm sure there could be a lot of other items we could use, we just have to think of them.'
'Yeah, any of us could think of something that could be useful.'
Hermione stayed and watched Harry as he went about charming the mirrors. One thing she noticed straight away, the mirrors weren't conjured or transfigured. She also noticed that they weren't mirrors from the magical world. She wondered if Harry just decided to buy muggle mirrors since he spent a lot of time in the muggle world, or he did it for a reason. She would ask him when he wasn't concentrating.
It only took a week before a story was released about Harry Potter dating a blond woman, yet so far, the Daily Prophet had not been able to find out who the woman was or where she came from. It was also mentioned that he was the one that invented the communication mirror.
Harry got a letter from Ginny and Harry smiled as he read it. She was happy for him and said he had been right. Once she realised what type of life she wanted and what type of life Harry wanted, they really weren't suited. She was happy with Lee and were beginning to believe they will end up married. Harry did write back, congratulated her on her career but also said he was happy that she found someone.
The wizarding world did not find out who Harry was dating, not until a wedding picture appeared on the front cover of the Quibbler. Harry Potter married Sally-Anne Perks, a muggleborn he had originally met when he was eleven, but they met up again when Harry had gone away on holidays.
That was one thing that happened a lot after Voldemort was killed. Lots of couples married and many babies had been born. Now the saviour of the wizarding world had married and very soon they would hear about their hero's first child.
The wizarding world was safe, safer than it had been in a long time and witches and wizards were all finally getting the lives they wanted.
The end:
