He's A Fool:

Harry Potter sat in one of the chairs in the office after watching the memory from Snape. After processing everything he had seen and heard, he had gone into the private bathroom and tipped the memory down the toilet, then flushed it away. He did not want anyone to see it's contents. Now, he was trying to figure out what to tell Hermione and Ron. They would ask about the memory the moment he saw them.

He hadn't intended to watch the memory because he believed Snape was up to something that would probably get him killed. No matter what Dumbledore said, Harry never trusted Snape. The only reason he decided to see what that memory contained was because all the portraits were empty and that's what Harry came into the office to do. He figured he might try to get some information from Dumbledore about how to end the fighting. He had never been able to get any information out of the man before, he had hoped this time would be different. People were dying, it was time Dumbledore told him everything he knew. But he hadn't been in his portrait, which is when Harry decided he had nothing to lose by watching the memory. It didn't mean he would believe what was in the memory but he knew that Snape did do what Dumbledore told him so he might have given him information that Harry needed to know. And he did, but it was not something Harry could have guessed.

It took a while but Harry finally had a few things worked out. The rest could be done once he left. He walked out the door, making sure to leave it open then he slipped his invisibility cloak on, waited for five minutes then returned to Dumbledore's office. Harry lifted his wand, making sure it was outside of the cloak then he began to destroy the office. He was mainly destroying the portraits, especially Dumbledore's portrait. He didn't want anyone to know he was targeting the portraits which was why he destroyed everything.

Harry didn't know if another portrait would replace this one, but right now, he didn't care. He was angry and this would give him the time he needed. It would help but it also could mean that no one will find out about the horcrux behind his scar, at least until they could get another portrait done. If there was another portrait of Albus Dumbledore, or one could be made, Harry hoped he be far away by the time anyone got to speak with him. That was one thing Harry worked out, he was leaving the country and was going to get as far away from England as he could.

Harry stepped off the spiral staircase to see Hermione, 'Where's Ron?'

'With his family,' Hermione said, 'He's worried about them and he believes some of them will die and nothing will prevent it.'

'Then blame Dumbledore if any of them do die,' Harry growled, 'It's completely hopeless.'

'What's going on?'

'The memory was of Dumbledore and Snape talking. It seems he told Snape about these items.'

'Even though that could mean you-know-who knows Professor Dumbledore knew about them, why did you say it's hopeless?'

'There's more items Hermione, but the memory stopped. It must be because Snape died before he could give me all the memory. By the sound of it, Snape was working for both sides. There might be a chance he never told old snakeface what the old man knew. Anyway, it doesn't matter, there is no way we can find items when we have no idea what they are, how many there are and where they are. I heard the word wand, I think it meant that one could be his wand. No one is strong enough to get that off him and even if they did, one of his death eaters would kill you before you could destroy it. I saw the fight he had with Dumbledore, it was so full on and nothing like any of us could do. But there was another bit, it sounded fuzzy but I thought I heard thirteen. As I said, it was fuzzy so he could have been saying anything. Three, seven and thirteen are magical numbers, but like I said, I'm not sure if I heard it right. Before I could see if there was a way to watch it again and listen more carefully, it threw me out then it just vanished.'

Harry moved closer to his female friend, 'We've lost Hermione and there's nothing we can do. For some reason he never told me about the other items. He didn't even tell me where they were or how to destroy them. We figured out about the sword and someone brought it to us but we will never be able to find them, not when he controls the world. All of us are now considered criminals. You are a muggleborn, he and his death eaters would torture you before they killed you. I've seen what he does to people Hermione, when I saw into his mind. You could spend days or even weeks being tortured.'

'There's has to be something we can do.'

'There's nothing. Do you want to find yourself a sex slave to a bunch of sadistic death eaters. That's what they do to muggleborn girls they catch.'

'You didn't tell me that.'

'I hoped I never had too. Hermione, please listen to me. You know I'm not one for running from danger but we can't win, it's done. It's time you stop trusting Dumbledore's word. He lead us here only to find out nothing is going to stop voldemort. You are a mudblood to them, what bellatrix did to you was nothing compared to what voldemort would do. I will end up tortured before he kills me but he wouldn't leave it too long for me in case I could escape again. It would be different for you, he could keep you for weeks, months, maybe years. One thing I saw was a captured muggleborn girl being given to people like crabbe and goyle's father's. They were cruel and rough. They didn't just use their worthless pricks on the girl, they used things, big things, they also used knives. She suffered so much and the pain would have been unbearable. They would do worse to you because of how you showed up pure-bloods like Malfoy. It's time you left, I am, since I don't want to spend all my life hiding and fighting where there's no way for him to die.'

'But Ron, the rest of the weasley's, everyone else. What about them?'

'Hermione,' Harry sighed, 'all of them trusted Dumbledore and we both know he didn't do enough. He knew about those items when I handed him the diary at the end of our second year. He only found one, in four years, he found one. We found three but it was luck and that took us nine months. If there is thirteen, it would take years but we have no place to start because we have no idea what the other items are. We know he believed the snake was one yet he wasn't positive but I don't believe it is. Seeing him before he got a body, there's no way he would have been able to create one with the snake while he was like that. I believe he just controls the snake because he's a parselmouth. The one we found hidden here was due to luck, due to Flitwick saying no one in living memory had seen the diadem. If he didn't say that, we probably would not have found that diadem. We saw the snake, it's in an enchanted cage, so we can't take care of it whether it's one or not. We'd be dead before we even got a spell off. Now we find there's more. I don't want to live like this Hermione, I can't. I just can't keep running, hiding, starving, freezing and knowing we could be captured or killed at any time. It was luck that allowed us to escape, thanks to Dobby. That could be us next time. We had hope that we could find them, now we know there's more but no idea how many or where they could be, there's no hope left.'

'We found the locket, diadem and cup,' Hermione said desperately.

'Yeah, we did. Okay, we might get lucky and find one, but we don't know if it's another two, three or ten. He is inhuman, so he made a lot to send him like that. For all we know there's one inside another vault at Gringotts, another death eater vault. It's not far fetched to believe he would give some of his other death eater items to hide for him. The goblins will kill us if we went back there. For all we know he dropped one in a loch or in the ocean. Even if we find and destroy all of them, how am I or anyone supposed to kill someone so powerful. I wasn't taught anything that he wouldn't already know how to block. This was another one of Dumbledore's mistakes. He knew of the prophecy from when I was a baby. He should have kept me in this world after my parents died and trained me, to be ready for what is happening now. He didn't, he didn't do anything.

'Very soon, he will have all of this country and he will find a way to block anyone entering or leaving. I hope the muggles might be able to do something. I mean if the queen or prime minister end up in danger, the military might just bomb places. Remember, the prime minister knows about this world. I would say they have plans in case someone in this world put them in danger. Also, think of this, a lot of muggleborns left because of the prejudice, some could be in the military, helping.

'Anyway, it doesn't matter. I do not want to live in hiding, fighting for years when nothing we do will help. Eventually we would starve to death because we won't be able to get money or food. I'm sure other countries are not corrupt like here, they will fight if he tries to rule them. Listen, if you want to stay, that's your choice but I'm not, not when it's hopeless. My parents sacrificed themselves so I could live, so I am going to honour them by living, even if it means leaving.'

'You're still angry with me because of the things I said about the book, aren't you?'

'A bit yeah, I felt betrayed, but what's that got to do with all this?'

'You're going to leave even if I stay, if Ron stays, if his family stays, you're still going to leave.'

'I'm going to do what my parents would want me to do. But Hermione, use your brilliant mind, it's done, over, we tried but we're barely trained and only just of age. People like Mad-eye and the order have done this before and they aren't making headway. Mad-eye, the tough old auror is dead, what hope do the rest of us have. Half of the first order of the phoenix died during the first war and a lot of them were aurors or hit wizards, we're teenagers who never had anyone teach us how to fight. The ministry won't do anything, they allowed those death eaters like malfoy to get off last time. Now they control everything. No, I haven't had a very good life here and I had a terrible life with the Dursley's. Now, it's time for me to do what my parents would want me to do. I made a promise to them when I found out what they did so I would survive, I promised I would have a life so that's what I'm going to do. I can't force you to leave, that is your choice, but I'm done since it's hopeless. We gave it our best shot, but it's hopeless. If you want to tell all the Weasley's, the order and the rest of them that are down there, go ahead since there really is no use keeping it a secret anymore.'

Harry gave his female friend a hug. Even though he still was a bit disappointed in Hermione, he didn't want her tortured. He hoped she would take in what he told her and leave.

'I'm leaving, right now. I know you want to see Ron but I hope you leave as well. Mudbloods are play things to them, I don't want you to go through the things I've seen in his mind. You have parents out there, find them and have a life. If you stay you won't have a life, you'll have pain then death.'

Harry turned and walked away, he turned back once more, 'Leave, it's the only chance you have,' Harry again turned and walked away but this time he kept walking. Once he was out of sight of Hermione, he slipped his invisibility cloak on and snuck to the fourth floor and through the tunnel to honeydukes.

Harry knew there could be death eaters in Hogsmeade. Not all of them might be at Hogwarts. Voldemort would want people out there in case others turned up. Just before he left the cellar in Honeydukes, he cast the disillusionment charm on himself, then a silencing charm before he slipped his cloak back on. It was the only chance he would have.

It took Harry a long time, but he was able to sneak out of Honeydukes, then out of Hogsmeade. He kept walking until he was at least a kilometre away from the town, then he turned on the spot, apparating away.

Harry appeared inside an old warehouse he had seen once when in the car with the Dursley's. He hoped having the charms and cloak kept him from being spotted by a muggle. But since it's night time, he didn't think anyone would have seen him if he hadn't been using his invisibility cloak. His apparition was a very quiet pop, not a loud bang like many others do so the muggles would not have heard anything.

'Okay, now I have to work on some fake papers, like a passport. I also have to get some decent clothes. I have to seem just like a normal traveller.' Harry was glad that he had snuck out of Privet drive before the order turned up to take him to the Burrow. He had charmed a bag and filled it with every bit of money had in his vault, then changed half into muggle money. Dumbledore had told him before he died that there was a big chance that Voldemort and his people would have control. Harry figured if that happened, he would never be able to get his money, so he made plans to make sure he did. He only used a few hundred pounds while they were using the tent.

Harry figured it would always be safer if he stayed in the muggle world. He only kept enough wizard money in case he wanted things like books or if anything happened to his wand.

Hermione had stood for nearly twenty minutes staring at where Harry disappeared before she went to find Ron. But she had heard what Harry said about what death eaters do to muggleborns. She wasn't sure she could leave, or leave Ron and the Weasley's. She wasn't sure what to do. She did know it was time to speak with Ron's family along with the teachers and the order of the phoenix. They had to know what they had been doing and what Harry found out. She wasn't sure what she would say when they asked where Harry was. She didn't want it to appear that Harry ran because he was a coward. She understood what Harry was saying. It was hopeless and they could end up living in hiding until eventually they were either captured or starved to death, or just killed outright. Harry would be killed straight away, everyone knew that. Hermione knew Harry was right, if they caught any of the others, like her or Ron, they would be tortured. She didn't want that, not for her or anyone else. She understood what Harry was saying and why he left. For now, she could say Harry got some information and had some thinking to do and he needed some time alone.

It took Harry most of the day but he had clothes and all the papers he believed he would need. He found a phone and booked a seat on the next flight to Australia and he made sure he booked a first class seat since Australia was a long way from England. Hermione had told him that the average flight to Australia was sixteen hours but some could be longer if they had to stop somewhere along the way.

Harry figured that Australia was far away so if voldemort did begin to take over other countries, he might not bother with a country on the other side of the world to Great Britain. He had been thinking of America first, then thought of New Zealand since it was far away. He figured Australia would be better since it was so big, it would be harder for anyone to find him.

By the time Voldemort and his death eaters got inside Hogwarts, they found it empty. It wasn't just empty of people, but the library was empty along with artefacts like the sorting hat and all the portraits. All the house elves were gone as well. Aberforth opened the tunnel from the room of requirement to his pub, then had everyone floo or apparate to different places. The Weasley's, Hermione, the teachers and the order all headed to grimmauld place. Kingsley became the new secret keeper. Since they were close to london, they thought this place was best. They worked on plans to stock up on food but also things to make potions in case they need them if they got hurt or sick. They cleaned out the cellar where they could store all the food and charm it to remain fresh. This was just until they could work on some long term plans.

Hermione had been surprised that they had listened to her when she explained that Harry found out that there was no way to win. She then went on to explain about the horcruxes and how there were many more. That was when they quickly worked on sneaking everyone out before they left. Minerva, Pomona, Filius and all the other teachers decided to take everything from Hogwarts. No one wanted those old books left for the death eaters. Pomona and Neville had snuck into the greenhouses and taken as many plants as they could. Others snuck into the potions store cupboard and took everything in there. They basically took what they could before they left. Minerva had the other house elves pack all the food in the kitchens and take it all to grimmauld place. Minerva also had some of the house elves remove all the portraits and store them in one of the old dungeon rooms that hadn't been used in hundreds of years. Minerva never found out that the portraits in the head's office were all staff along with the order all knew, once they left Hogwarts, they would never step inside the castle again.

When they decided to leave, they used the room of requirement to use the tunnel to the Hogs Head. Many had hoped to find Harry in there so they could talk to him, work on some new plans. He wasn't there and they had no idea where he was.

It was Ron who suggested Godric's Hollow, whether it was the house or the graves of Harry's parents. They would work on someone sneaking out to see if Harry did go to the town he had once lived in with his parents.

Harry decided to stay in a muggle camp ground until he could find a home that wasn't too expensive. He could afford a house but he wanted to have plenty of money left over in case it took him a long time to find a job.

Harry had already decided that he had to work on making it seem like he had left England years ago, which meant his strong English accent had to be toned down. He was going to listen to how people spoke then keep practising. He was going to self study and hope he could get a job in the wizarding world in this country. He also thought of doing night classes so he could get his muggle education up to scratch, in case he couldn't get a job in the wizarding world. That was long term plans and only if Voldemort didn't start trying to take over this country. Before he did that though, he knew he had to get rid of his scar which meant plastic surgery. He would also see about contact lenses or laser surgery for his eyes. He could dye his hair, that was the easy part. He could also grow a beard. Hopefully doing all that, no one would ever see Harry Potter, the-boy-who-lived. For now, he would relax, have a bit of a holiday, then find a home. He would then find a part time job in the muggle world. That would give him time to really study stuff from the wizarding world that he hadn't studied yet, or he didn't have time to study.

One thing that kept evading Harry's mind was the people he left behind. Even though they all had families and people to rely on. Harry had no one and the ones he thought he could count on always supported Dumbledore. He realised some might die but he couldn't do anything to help them. He also couldn't take the risk that they found out the truth about his scar. Many of them would instantly want him dead if it meant they could kill voldemort. He would never allow them to kill him. If anyone saw him after he had surgery to remove the scar, he could easily make it seem like an unspeakable was able to remove the soul piece which was why the scar finally healed. Or he could say there was some ancient Aborigine ritual that was able to remove the soul behind his scar. That would only happen if someone happened to recognise him.

Harry decided he had to forget about everyone he had once known and just hoped they survived. He decided then and there that he would not get papers to read the list of people who had died due to Voldemort and his death eaters. He would only get the newspapers just to make sure Voldemort wasn't heading towards his new country.

He had a new name, Orion Evans. Evans was a very muggle name where Orion was just an unusual name. Unusual names were big in the muggle world so it wouldn't seem strange. Being so far from England, he hoped using sirius' middle name and his mother's maiden name would keep him from being found.

It was time for Harry, or Orion to have a normal life, one where he wasn't famous or put in danger all the time.

Time skip:

It took four years before Orion heard any news from england. He was now working for the Australia ministry of magic, as an obliviator. He had chosen that profession as he believed it could just help him out if anyone found him. He could use what he learnt in his job to remove the part of the memory of seeing Harry Potter. He didn't look like he used to and he had different coloured eyes, thanks to coloured contact lenses. He had grown a beard and grown his hair. From the moment his hair got past his shoulders, he began to get neat and didn't stick up all over the place like it used to. His scar was gone but Harry had paid to not only get rid of his lightning shaped scar but also the scar from the basilisk and the ones he got during the triwizard tournament.

Orion had just gotten into the lifts at the ministry when he overheard a conversation between two aurors who were heading to their office. They were talking about how the muggles in England had been able to kill or capture all the death eaters. The werewolves were killed, along with the vampires. They also killed the dementors using guns. Magic might not have been able to kill dementors but muggle weapons could. The ministry of magic in England had been completely destroyed along with the shopping towns of Diagon alley and Hogsmeade. The one part that made Harry sad was when he heard the muggle military had completely destroyed Hogwarts. It seems the military did have a lot of muggleborns in their army, along with the navy and air force. They had been able to supply the military with all the information they needed to find and destroy the places where the terrorists were hiding. Voldemort had been inside Hogwarts when he was blown up. The muggles had found bits of his body along with bits of bodies of many others, most of them had the dark mark. There were a few that were killed that must have been prisoners.

When Orion got to his office, he decided to send off for an international newspaper. He figured since Voldemort and his death eaters were dead, he might find out if any of the ones he had known and been friends with had lived or died. He also wanted to know who the prisoners were and he prayed to merlin that it wasn't anyone he knew. He still felt a little guilty about leaving but he knew it was the only way to have a life.

Harry or Orion didn't read the paper while he was at work, mainly because he didn't want anyone to get suspicious if he read a name he knew and got upset.

Harry stepped into his home, Dobby got him a beer straight away. He sat at the table and began to read. He smiled when he read that the muggle military in England had used satellite pictures and the magical people to find death eater homes that had been hidden under the fidelius charm. It had taken them two years to find all the home, those homes no longer existed.

Harry finally got to the page that listed the deaths. On one page was a list of the death eaters. On another page was a list of the people they believed were innocent.

'Oh no,' Harry stared at the names Remus Lupin along with Andromeda Tonks. He read the names of many of the students he had gone to Hogwarts with. Those students came from every house at Hogwarts. It was when he read the name Hermione Weasley and Ron Weasley that made him choke up. He realised his two old friends got married and had died together. They had been two of the prisoners at Hogwarts when the military blew it up. Molly Weasley was also killed, while protecting her daughter. Ginny had been able to escape when Bellatrix concentrated on Molly. Dean Thomas and Hannah Abbott were another two prisoners. Minerva McGonagall and hagrid had been killed along with Slughorn and Pomfrey. Almost every name he read on the second page was someone he had met or knew, from student to staff.

'Master Harry might be sad but he could not stay.'

Harry sighed, 'I know Dobby. I would have been killed, either by Voldy or someone in the order who found out what was behind my scar. What I said to Hermione was true, my parents sacrificed themselves for me, so I could live. I decided I was going to live, for them. One thing this doesn't say is what happened to the ones that survived.'

'Dobby could go visit Master Harry. Dobby might hear something.'

'Maybe,' Harry continued to stare down at the names, 'No, it's over, done with Dobby. It's time to put them to rest. I feel for all the ones left behind but I still believe I did the right thing. We're not part of it anymore. We have our life here and it's time we live this life.'

'Does that mean Master Harry might finally find a nice witch?'

Harry smiled as he looked up at Dobby, 'You know what Dobby, I just might. How about we both cook tonight, something we both like.'

Harry or Orion did end up finally allowing himself to meet more people. He ended up meeting a beautiful young woman who was a healer. Her name was Carina. They married only sixth months after their first date and a few years later, they had their first child, a son they called Jimmy. It was a coincidence that Carina's father was named James, Jimmy was named after him. Harry never told his wife who he really was so he never mentioned his parents named. She had seen him with his green eyes and asked about it. Harry said he wanted a change. He started off with brown eyes, then changed to blue. He just got so used to having different coloured eyes that it didn't seem unusual for him not to stay with his green eyes. When Carina said she loved his green eyes, he decided to only use the contacts when he was at work.

Orion and Carina went on to have four children. They ended up with ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren when they past. It was as Orion was dying, he died before his wife, he confessed the truth about who he really was and why he hid the truth. She smiled, kissed him and said she loved him no matter who he was. He past with a smile on his face.

The end:
