MI Sun was faintly aware of people around her. She didn't know where she was or why she was in so much pain. Her head pounded and her ribs were sore.
She briefly opened her eyes only to close them again. The harsh lights above made her head hurt even more. Her vision became blurry and she began to feel nauseous. She clamped her eyes shut willing the pain and voices to go away.
"She's waking up." MI Sun heard someone say to her left. She tried to turn in the direction of the voice, but winced in pain as her ribs protested painfully.
"What happened?" MI Sun asked groggily. She slowly opened her eyes once more and looked over at her sister for answers as to why she was in a hospital bed.
"We were hoping you could tell us." Miju answered.
"We found you and a few other nurses pretty banged up in the parking lot." Alex told her.
"It was dark and someone hit me from behind."MI Sun explained."Can I go home now?"
"You were unconscious for twenty minutes." Miju told her."I think you should stay at least one night."
"I feel fine. So please let me go home." MI Sun pleaded."I haven't seen my kids in two weeks."
"If you can stay awake for thirty minutes I'll you go home." Bailey said. She understood how it felt to be away from her children.
"I'll watch over her." Miju volunteered.
"You don't have to watch me." MI Sun said as Miju sat down in a chair beside the bed.
"You're my little sister. I just want to make sure you're alright." Miju told her.
"I'm alright." Mi Sun assured her closing her eyes once more.
"You have to stay awake if you want to get out of here." Miju reminded her.
"I'm not sleeping. My head just hurts." Mi Sun sighed.
Miju got up and injected some pain meds into Mi Sun's iv.
"Call me of you need anything." Miju said when they pulled into the driveway an hour later.
MI Sun nodded and excited the car and hurried inside. Cleo could be heard barking from inside the house and Mi Sun didn't want her to wake anyone up.
"Cleo be quiet." MI Sun said kicking off her shoes.
Cleo stopped barking as she followed Mi Sun to the couch. She jumped up onto the couch and began licking Mi Sun's face.
Mi Sun leaned back into the cushions on the couch and closed her eyes.
"Cleo I missed you too, but I really want to sleep." Mi Sun groaned pushing Cleo away. She was about to close her eyes again when she felt tiny arms wrap around her legs.
"You're supposed to be asleep." Mi Sun said as Ji Yeon crawled into her lap.
"I stayed awake for when you got home." Ji Yeon explained as she snuggled into her mother."I missed you."
"I missed you too." Mi Sun said pulling Ji Yeon closer.
"Cleo missed you a lot." Ji Yeon giggled as Cleo wedged herself in between Ji Yeon and Mi Sun and began licking Mi Sun's face once more.
"Thank you for the kisses Cleo, but its time to sleep." Mi Sun said standing up going into Ji Yeon's room.
Ji Yeon woke up early the next morning. She was surprised to see her mother sleeping next to her. She crawled to the end of the bed where Cleo was sleeping.
"Cleo wake up." Ji Yeon whispered gently shaking Cleo. Cleo yawned and looked around.
"I didn't dream. Mommy really is here." Ji Yeon whispered excitedly as she looked over at Mi Sun."Lets go get some breakfast and let mommy sleep some more."
Ji Yeon grabbed Cleo's collar making her jump off the bed. Ji Yeon lead the way to the kitchen where she found her father making breakfast.
"Mommy is home." Ji Yeon said excitedly as she took her place at the table."She's sleeping in my bed."
"Really?" Jin said setting Ji Yeon's plate of food in front of her.
There conversation was interrupted by a knock on the door.
Jin went into the living room and answered the door to find his sister in law standing there.
"Is Mi Sun awake?" Miju asked making her way inside."Don't worry I'm negative."
"She's still sleeping." Jin told her.
Miju went in search of her sister while Jin went back to cooking breakfast.
"You need to wake up." Miju said shaking her sister awake.
"Why?" Mi Sun groaned."This is the best sleep I've had in awhile."
"How's your head?" Miju asked sitting next to her sister on the bed.
"A slight headache, no blurry vision, no dizziness and as you can hear I can talk." Mi Sun said.
"Good. Make sure you eat something and take it easy." Miju instructed leaving the room."Call me if you need anything."
Mi Sun got out of bed and made her way into the kitchen.
"What happened to you?" Jin asked when Mi Sun appeared in the doorway. He didn't miss the bruises and dark marks on her face.
"There are some people out there that don't like what I do for a living." Mi Sun explained. She didn't want to say that she had been beat up in front of the kids.
Mi Sun felt her family staring at her as she sat down at the table with a cup of coffee.
"I've just been Really tired and wearing a mask nonstop." Mi Sun explained further. This seemed to satisfy the kids and they all went back to their breakfast.
After breakfast the older kids went downstairs to do their school work while Ji Yeon sat in the living room watching TV.
She turned her attention away frp, the TV when she heard her tablet go off signaling a call coming in. She reached over to the end table next to the couch and answered the call to see Dil on the screen.
"Hi Dil." Ji Yeon said upon answering the call."Guess what? My mommy came home last night."
"That's good." Dil said quietly."I got bad news."
Ji Yeon was concerned for Dil. He looked tired and like he didn't feel very well.
"What's your news?" Ji Yeon asked.
"I gotted the sickness and so does my grandpa." Dil explained.
"Oh. I hope you and your grandpa get your better soon." Ji Yeon told him.
"Thanks. I'm going to take a nap now. This feels worser then the worst cold ever." Dil sighed and hung up.
Ji Yeon went into kitchen to tell her mother about Dil only to go d the rol, empty. She went down the hallway and stood outside her parents room where she could hear voices.
"I'm fine." Mi Sun insisted."I have some bruised ribs and a concussion. The other marks are from wearing a mask all the time."
"Ok." Jin sighed standing up and opening the door.
Ji Yeon hurried back into the kitchen before her father saw her. She heard him walk out into the garage and start his car.
"Are you ready for lunch?" Mi Sun asked as she entered the kitchen and found Ji Yeon getting a snack.
Ji Yeon nodded."Can we have cucumber soup?"
"Go get me some cucumbers and we can." Mi Sun told her. Normally she would get them herself but it was painful for her to bend down.
Ji Yeon went outside and was nearing the garden when she heard the grass moving just like before. She ran back inside.
"There's something out there." ji Yeon panted.
"Oh. Did you see something?" Mi Sun asked turning away from the pantry.
Ji Yeon shook her head no."It eats stuff in the garden."
"Come on." Mi Sun said taking Ji Yeon's hand and leading her outside.
Ji Yeon watched the grass move nervously clinging go her mother's hand. She jumped in surprise when a small white rabbit appeared out of the tall grass.
"He showed up a few weeks ago." Mi Sun explained."I think he was someones lost pet."
"He looks like Bungi." Ji Yeon smiled stepping closer and gently touching the rabbit on the head.
"Who is Bunji?" Mi Sun asked as Ji Yeon picked a few cucumbers.
"He's a bunny from over the moon." Ji Yeon explained handing her mother three large cucumbers.
They went back inside to prepare lunch.
"Will you watch a movie with me?" Ji Yeon asked her mother as the older kids went downstairs with their lunch.
"Sure." Mi Sun said taking their two bowls into the living room. Ji Yeon put over the moon on and the two of them enjoyed the movie while eating lunch. Halfway through the movie they fell asleep.
Ji Yeon woke up and noticed her mother still asleep on the couch. She went downstairs to see if the other kids were finished with school. She was happy that they were so one of them could help her with something. She dug around in the cabinet where the art supplies were kept and found construction paper and crayons. She went over to the table and drew a heart and the best goober she could and handed it to Min Jun.
"Can you write get well soon for me?" She asked."It's for Dil."
Min Jun did as she asked and handed the card back to her. She went upstairs to see if her mother was awake yet.
"Can you send this to Dil for me please? He got sick." Ji Yeon explained.
"Of course." Mi Sun said getting up and getting an envelope and stamp. She addressed it and walked outside and let Ji Yeon put it in the mailbox.
"I hope Dil gets better soon." Ji Yeon said when they were back inside.
"Me too." Mi Sun said sitting on the couch and holding Ji Yeon close. She didn't want to see anymore death, especially that of a child.
