First off I would like to start off by saying a big thanks to TigeressFlynn and ukitakeitalialover041757 for following and JammyONE for favoriting my story! It means so much to me! This is gonna be a really long one so enjoy and please review. If I get at least three I'll be sure to update even sooner!

Gonna have to say I don't own Akatsuki no Yona. Wish I did though.

xxxxx

Only a few hours rest did we get before we had to continue moving on. Every so often we would stop to rest mostly for Yona given her state at the moment. I knew I had to be strong for the both of us, to stay hopeful even though at the moment it didn't seem as if there is any.

Every time Yona woke up she cry, and cry saying never saying what it is that caused her to become so upset. I knew however that it had to do with the fact that all we had was gone and we would never get it back. Our lives are like those of a wild animal that had finally lost against another of its kind in the fight for their territory; we had nowhere to go.

The day passes us and soon the sun is setting as we made a small fire to cook the fish that Hak caught for us to eat. It felt good to have something in our stomachs, but Yona refused to eat. All she seems to do is stare off, her mind elsewhere rather than focused on now.

I try to coax her into eating, but she just ignores me. I can't help feeling as though I'm losing her too and for a moment, I felt anger towards her. She isn't the only one who is suffering, I too lost father, our home and even Soo-Won.

My teeth bare down so hard I feel as though I could break them if I pressed any further. The anger coursing through my veins feels as if there is no end to it. Yet, I also feel a hollowness inside me. For even though I keep on moving I don't feel as I, myself am doing so, only the shell of me.

Eat, bath, sleep it was if it is all that I knew how to do. Just going through the motions and relying solely on Hak to take care of only not me, but my sister as well. How selfish, a selfish girl who lived a sheltered life only to crumble when faced with the outside world. How weak, pathetic, useless, I'm good for nothing.

So consumed with my oppressive thoughts I didn't realize how far off I had walked off into the forest. Looking around I didn't recognize anything around me, but soon my attention is taken by the sounds of growling around me. A large sized dog comes from out of the brush, teeth bared as drool pours down its massive jaws.

All I could do is stare in its dark eyes; hunger apparent as it stalks closer towards me. It then leaps at me, my eyes squeezing shut as I prepare for its attack. Finding that it never comes as two hands grab hold of my arms with frantic blue eyes staring down at me.

"Are you alright? Are you hurt?" Shaking my head, he begins shaking my body, "What are you doing way out here? Are you trying to get yourself killed?!"

Growling from the surrounding area stops me from answering as Hak lifts me up into his arms. He sprints off, desperately trying to escape the den that I obviously disturbed. We're chased with Hak killing a few every so often as they try to attack.

He cries out in pain as a dog locks its jaws onto the calf of his right leg. That doesn't deter him, he only continues ignoring the pain that he's in because of me. It's all because of me.

"Don't worry about anything, Princess. Think of me as your tool to use in order to survive because I promised I'd keep you safe no matter the cost of my life!"

We soon reach the camp, Yona still passed out asleep unaware of what had just occurred. I watch as Hak bandages his wound, but I know that it wouldn't be enough. Remembering seeing an abandoned beehive on one of the trees along the riverbank I move to see if it had what you needed.

Ignoring Hak's calls you focus on searching for the hive. Thankfully able to find it even in the dark I take a branch breaking the hive from where it hung. There wasn't much, but it was more than enough to help Hak to make up for the mistake you made.

"What were you thinking running off like that again after what just happened?!"

I narrow my eyes on his own glaring ones, "I was thinking about keeping your wound from becoming infected! It's my fault you got hurt and I'm not going to let it get worse without trying to make it better first."

He stays quiet after that, letting me take his leg, unwrapping the bandage he put on. Seeing the damage done to him I can't stop the wince. Deep, bite marks in a trapezoidal shape, blood seeping from every mark with bruising all around it in deep purples and blues.

Grabbing the waterskin beside me I open it pouring the cool liquid onto the red, bloody bite wounds. He doesn't even flinch even when I know he's in pain. I then tare of the end of my dress using it to clean off all the blood and water before applying the honey gently.

I rewrap the bandages on his wound finished with what I set out to do. I could feel his eyes on me, never leaving even when I move away from him unsure of what to do or say now. I know that he is angry with me.

"How could you do something so stupid, Princess. You're smarter than that so why?"

Eyes focused down on my hands, cleaning them of any blood or honey I can't help the stinging of my eyes at hearing his disappointment. "I don't know. I never meant to wander off I just became so lost in my thoughts that I ended up there."

"Now isn't the time for you to wander off on your own. I meant what I said earlier use me as you wish. I'm a tool for you but use me to help keep you alive. Use me how you need, and I will gladly die for that purpose!"

A resounding slap echoes throughout the trees as my hand connects with his cheek. My eyes glare into his as I seethe infuriated with him speaking in such a way. I'm not angry for his words at me, but with how carelessly he's willing to throw away his life for me.

"Never so callously speak about casting your life off as if it was nothing!" Tears now running as I shout as him, "I could never use you as a tool! You're too important to be considered as nothing more than a mere object! Never say that to me again! Do you hear me?! Nev-er?!"

My rant's cut off by him pulling me into his arms. His firm grip on me unyielding as he holds me to him with my head on his chest with his cheek resting on top.

"I promise, Princess. I apologize with how my words upset you. I never meant for them too."

Clenching his shirt in my fists, I move so that I'm able to look up at him into his eyes tears still streaming from my own. "If you wish to speak so callously on throwing your life away then you might as well say that your life is mine."

His eyes widen at my claim. Moving myself I hold his face gently between my hands, raising myself so that he's forced to look up at me. Looking at him in such a way his lips so close to my own. My desire to kiss him grew, but I ignore it for now only kissing him softly on the forehead.

I then look back into his sapphire blue eyes, "If you still wish to continue with using your life to save my own until you die then pledge your life as mine. Say that only I own your life and only I have a say when it is you can die."

Something in his eyes change in that moment. Moving so that he now kneels down before me as I stand, towering over him. Enclosing my much smaller hand in his larger one as he places a gentle kiss on the back of it.

I gasp at the feeling, his eyes never leaving mine as he does this, "My life is yours then, my Princess." Placing is right hand on his heart, "I will be your sword, your shield, anything that you deem of use. Just being by your side is enough for me, it's all I need. This is my pledge to only you."

His words find me speechless with only tears and a nod as his reply. Both of us remained silent the rest of the night. Sleeping side by side, me in the middle of my sister and him as we slept taking in the comfort of having each other.

We wake early the next morning just as the sun begins to rise. Continuing on as we have the last couple of days taking a break every now and then to conserve energy. Yona had ended up noticing the bandage on Hak's leg asking what had happened.

Let's just say she didn't take it well with the fact I almost got myself killed; almost leaving her alone. This made me feel even more guilt with not only causing Yona the pain of almost losing me, but Hak as well. As we stopped to rest for a moment, he saw me staring down at his wound.

"Hey, don't look so worried," looking up to see him with an easy smile on his face. "You don't really believe general Hak can be defeated by a little dog bite." He moves to stand holding out his hand for me to take hold, "Do you?"

"No," I say as I take his hand," I suppose that would be foolish of me," with him pulling me up to stand. "After all what use would you be if that's all it took," my back turned to him as I walk forward before looking back on him with a mischievous smirk.

He scowls slightly at my playful jab with a glint of laughter in his eyes. Yona giggles at our banter, her first smile in days however small, present on her face. That small smile gave me a sense of comfort in knowing she would be fine. It would just take time.

"Hak, I was wondering," Yona says looking lightly puzzled, "don't you think we should find a village where we could find some food and medicine?"

"No," shaking his head in denial, "that would be way too dangerous. Soo-Won will have troops searching for us in every village and we're too easy to spot."

"Is there anywhere we can go?"

"There's only one place that could possibly grant us safe haven. It's the capital of Fuuga; home of the Wind Clan."

Just then a gust of wind blows away the mist, revealing the capital of Fuuga. A smile came to my face at coming back here even with the current circumstances. Fuuga will give us a place to rest and least think up a plan on where to go if we're unable to stay.

Soon we're walking up the stairs to the entrance of the village. At the gate stood two men, sleeping against each other without a care. Hak looks at them as a tick mark of frustration comes to his forehead.

He kicks the two over, both landing on their faces, "You think Mundok would be okay with you sleeping on the job?!"

"General Hak?"

"What has it been ten years?"

"Um, more like three."

That's when they noticed both me and Yona, "Hey! It's Tori! How've you been?!" Exclaimed a rather excited Tae-Woo.

"I've been well, Tae-Woo. I hope the both of you have as well especially with how relaxed you both seem to be."

"More like lazy, Tori."

"We're not lazy! This is just our specialty as part of the Wind Clan. To just go with the flow, to be easy and doing what we want when we wanna," Han-Dae answering then looking to Yona. "Oh, who's this with you?"

I smile looking back at my little sister who looks timidly at Han-Dae, "This is my little sister, Lena."

"Well, hi there-"

"General Hak is here everyone! And he brought Ms. Tori with him!"

A smile comes to my face watching as everyone starts to gather around the gate to greet us. All asking how we've been and how beautiful or in Hak's case handsome we've become. With all the questioning I notice how none to know about what's been happening at the castle.

"So, have you and Hak finally confessed your undying love for one another?"

Steam erupts from both of us, our faces beet red at what had just been said to us. "OF COURSE, I HAVEN'T," both of us shouting out in unison.

"Well, I'm sure it'll happen sooner or later," Mrs. Aya says with a wink. Causing us to burst with steam once more. She then looks behind me, "And who's this sweet thing with you two?"

"This is my little sister, she's in training to be a lady in waiting just like I am."

"Is that right, well what's your name miss?"

"Are you training under your sister?"

"How old are you? You look younger than me?"

Yona looks so overwhelmed, unsure how to answer any of the questions thrown at her. It's then she passes out, probably from exhaustion from everyone that's happened the last few days. She's caught by two girls before she fell to the ground which I sigh from relief for.

"She seems like a fragile little thing?" Mrs. Aya points out which is somewhat accurate.

"Lena's just probably hungry and not use to the altitude. Once she gets some rest and food, I'm sure she'll be fine," I calmly announce. "Hak, could you please carry her for me?"

"Of course."

Snickers escape from Tae-Woo and Han-Dae, "Aww, isn't this sweet. General Hak is always so nice to Ms. Tori," says Tae-Woo.

"Yeah, but who wouldn't be with Ms. Tori after all," adds Han-Dae.

"She's an angel," both say dreamily in unison.

"Alright, enough you two," Hak says as he swipes his arm at them. "So, Han-Dae is my grandpa Mundok around.

"No, he received a request to the castle."

This makes us look to each other in surprise, "Do you know the reason, Han-Dae?"

"Your guess is as good as mine, Ms. Tori. They summoned all five generals to meeting at the castle out of the blue."

Anxiety begins to bubble inside me. Soo-Won is obviously trying to hurry to establish power from all the generals. And with Hak being on the run due to saving my sister and I they had no choice, but to summon grandpa Mundok even though he's retired.

Now not only are we in danger, but so could the village. If I know grandpa Mundok like I know I do then there's no way he'll support Soo-Won. The other Clans will become restless with this and most likely the Fire Clan will try to cause strain to the Wind Clan. Pressuring grandpa Mundok to approve Soo-Won as king which could cause war between the Clans.

These thoughts running through my head just have a headache build. I needed to do something, anything to distract myself from thinking on this. 'I know exactly what I can do to distract myself.'

"Well, I'm going to go see my one true love," both men now looking to me. "You both behave while I'm gone, meaning you Hak."

With that said I'm gone before they can reply going straight to the kitchens where he'll most likely be. My lips curve up softly at the thought of seeing him again. He always seems to know how to brighten my day.

Opening the door to the kitchen I catch sight of him. Noticing how he's gotten taller since I had last seen him. He just takes my heart away... with how cute he is!

"Tae-Yeon, my love!" I call out as I leap forward taking him into my arms, holding him tight.

"Big sister!" he exclaims as he throws his small arms around my neck. Nuzzling himself as close as possible to me as I hold him.

I needed this, "How I've missed you," pulling back to look down at his face, "you've gotten so big since I last saw you."

"Really?!" Eyes glittering at the prospect, "It hasn't been that long since I last saw you, but I've been doing really good!"

Him saying that gives me some sense of relief, "That's good, I'm happy you've been doing so well. Have those steam treatments been helping?"

"Mhm," nodding his head with a big, bright smile.

"Tae-Yeon, I need to ask a favor of you."

His big blue eyes blink curiously at me, "What is it, big sister?"

"My little sister, Lena is here with me, but she collapsed. She hasn't eaten well the past few days and I need your help to make her favorite food. Do you think you can help me?"

"Yeah!"

We both then get to work on fixing some chicken juk. It's a staple dish in this country and happens to be Yona's favorite food. She always wanted this especially whenever she got sick even after that one-time father attempted to make it. It had turned out awful, but she still ate it because someone she loved made it just for her.

Doing this had been a good way to distract myself from everything. Tae-Yeon helps immensely with this with his happy laughter and bright smiles. While Hak is the strong, unmovable force, Tae-Yeon is the gentle, bright force that everyone wants to keep safe. I'm no different in this wish to make sure Tae-Yeon is happy and becomes healthier as he grows.

After we finish cooking, Tae-Yeon insists on carrying and serving my sister her meal. I couldn't say no to those puppy eyes of his so I let him do what he wants. Carrying in the try of food just as Yona appears to wake.

"It seems you're finally awake, little sister."

"Oh, Ha-!"

Quicky and carefully I cover her mouth as Tae-Yeon is distracted, "Your name is Lena while we are here. You're a lady in waiting in training. Understand?" She nods, her eyes conveying that she does, "Good," I say smiling as I remove my hand just as Tae-Yeon finishes preparing her bowl.

He sets it down, raising his hand to her forehead, checking her temperature, "Good, your fevers gone. Now big sister Tori told me this is your favorite, so be sure to eat lots to get your strength back."

"It looks delicious. Did you make this sister," looking down at the bowl.

"I only helped," denying I did it by myself, "Tae-Yeon here did most of the cooking."

He looks away bashful by my praise while still having a smile. Tae-Yeon then frowns causing me to frown as well then looking at Yona to see tears in her eyes.

"Does it taste bad? Is that why you're crying?"

"No," shaking her head, "it's just really hot."

Tae-Yeon stares at her confused now, "Now you are crying because it's too hot? You're really sensitive."

This makes me chuckle sadly knowing the reason for her tears. Yona just smiles closing her tear-filled eyes, "It's just, this reminds me of our father is all."

He raises a hand wiping away some of Yona's tears, "My name's Tae-Yeon. General Hak is my older brother."

"I didn't know Hak had a little brother."

"Mhm! Big sister Tori would come whenever Hak would visit," Yona looking to me in surprise. "Though," looking rather down hearted, "I would have though by now they big brother would have told how he felt about her. Or at least big sister telling him how she felt."

For the third time today steam bursts from me as my face turns red, "W-what do you mean how I feel for him?! I mean," looking away as I pull on some of my hair nervously, "I guess-"

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN "YOU GUESS"!?"

"How could you be so cruel Ms. Tori?" Tears streaming down Tae-Woo's face.

"You act like you don't even know how you feel about him while he hides away his unrequited love for you! That's down right cold-hearted!" Han-Dae hiding his teary face with his hands as he spouts on.

Han-Dae's head is then bashed by Hak's hsu quandao that's wrapped in clothe, "How do you not know how you feel about me?"

"It is not that I don't it's just-"

"She's too shy to tell you," interrupts Tae-Yeon with a smile," and shouldn't it be you to tell her how you feel big brother?" This time Hak turning red while being questioned, "After all you told me a real man owns up to his feelings and-"

"Okay that's enough," this time Hak interrupting Tae-Yeon.

"Lena, what's my big brother like when at the castle? I tried asking bog sister Tori, but she wouldn't tell me much."

Yona looks to Tae-Yeon resting a finger on her chin while she thinks, "Let's see. He's rude, completely insensitive, not charm whatsoever, brutish, boorish, thinks he's-"

"Alright that's enough from you too!"

Both Han-Dae and Tae-Woo turn away laughing at the way my sister described Hak, "You're absolutely right," Han-Dae manages to say as he looks to us, "he's got no charm whatsoever! It's a wonder how Ms. Tori even bothers with him!"

"Oh, you think that's funny to ya?!"

It's so good to see everyone laughing again. Even Yona seems to be enjoying herself as she talks with Tae-Yeon about the food from the castle compared to what's eaten here. I'm so glad to see her gaining some life back after everything that's happened.

My eyes catch Hak's who seemed to be staring at me. His smile tender as his eyes gaze into mine with something I'm too afraid to decipher. All I know is that I'm happy he's able to gaze at me in such a way even if I never find out the meaning behind it.

xxxxx

I walk around the village carrying a basket full of clothes in need of washing with Yona and Hak following me. A chuckle escapes me as we walk calmly to the river which is the only source of water for the entire village.

"Now, Yona if you have any questions just ask me or Hak."

"I'm not sure I can do this. I mean I've never washed clothes before."

"Don't worry," looking over to her, "just get started so we can finish."

"Yeah," Hak adds on, "and be sure to be respectful. It's the villages only water source."

"Hak I can't do it."

"What do you mean you can't," walking over to her side. "You haven't even tried yet."

"Hak, the water," I voice, my panic evident.

"What," Hak running over looking down in alarm, "the river. It's completely dried up!"

Villagers begin gathering around us. They too looking at the river in alarm, baffled as to how this could of have happened. I on the other hand have a good idea as to what happened to the river and it is nothing good.

"What happened to the river?!"

"What will we do without water? This is the only source we have?!"

"Everyone calm down. I sent Han-Dae up the river to investigate," Hak announces evenly as not to cause more panic.

"If we don't find another water source, we all could die!"

"I know," Hak replied morosely, "but panicking isn't going to help our situation. For now, we'll buy our water from traveling merchants. We have enough in our reserves for the time being, so everyone try to remain calm."

Neighs from a horse sound behind us and we look to see grandpa Mundok arriving at the scene. Relief fills me at knowing that he safe, away from the castle. However, the unease I feel doesn't dissipate.

Immediately Yona and I run over to grandpa Mundok as he dismounts. His arms open wide as we both run into his welcoming arms. Yona crying in the comfort he brings while I try and fail at holding back my own.

"Princess Hayami, Princess Yona. Thank goodness you're both safe. I'm so sorry." His apology making me want to sob, "I heard your father had been murdered and that Hak had fled with the both of you. I couldn't believe the anything they were saying to me. I wish I could have been there for you both," he states sadly.

Grandpa Mundok's hold on us grows tighter causing Yona to call out her inability to breathe. I on the other hand rather enjoyed the tightness of his hold. It makes me feel better if only somewhat.

He pulls back, looking worriedly down at us, "You both look too skinny. Are you having trouble eating?"

"No," states Yona as she shakes her head, "they feed me really well. Maybe too much. They've been beyond generous and your clan has been so kind to me. Just like you Mundok."

"And you Princess Hayami? You look rather pale?" His concern for me warms my heart.

"You truly are like a grandfather to me Mundok," gazing up softly into his eye. "I'm fine and as always the villagers have been so kind to me."

"If you're sure, but please take care of yourself and tonight I'll be sure to have Tae-Yeon have you eat. Or at least Hak will make sure."

A blush rises to my cheeks, my eyes averting from grandpa Mundok's penetrating gaze. Never seeing how he and Hak look to one another.

"Brother! Big sister!" Tae-Yeon calling out as he walks over, "Oh, hi grandpa!"

"Han-Dae has come back," Tae-Woo announces as he follows behind Tae-Yeon.

My eyes go to where more villagers are gathered, my pace quickening as I go forward. I see Han-Dae sitting on the ground bruises and scrapes all over his body. Mrs. Aya doing what she could to help even though it can't be much.

"My poor boy, you've been injured," grandpa Mundok states worried.

"What happened up there?" questions Hak.

"Well, you know me. Always doing stupid stuff," Han-Dae rubbing his head as he explains. "I investigated like you asked and I found a bunch of Fire Clan guys damming up the river. They were all armed pretty well, but I got so mad I attacked without thinking. Of course, I got beat up and tossed aside."

"I was afraid this would happen," I whisper out not knowing grandpa Mundok had heard me.

"How dare they do this to us."

"Are they trying to start a war with us?!"

"Master, please let us go fight them. We can't stand for this!"

"Wait, we can't retaliate. If we rush in without thinking it could cause a war between the nations," grandpa Mundok trying to be rational.

"How can we not fight back? They took our only water source and hurt Han-Dae too."

"If we don't do something we are all gonna die!"

"Stop panicking. No one is going to die." Grandpa Mundok looking to Tae-Woo, "Treat Han-Dae immediately."

Tae-Woo does as he's asked. Taking Han-Dae by the back of the collar of his shirt, dragging him away. Han-Dae's complaints heard as they walk further away.

"Well grandpa?"

"This is a warning from our friends of the Fire Clan."

"What do you mean?" Hak looking to his grandpa unsure.

"I know exactly what all this means," unable to stay quiet any longer as I look to grandpa Mundok. "Most likely is that Soo-Won is trying to be appointed king. You most likely didn't give them your approval and with them needing the approval of all five nations they resorted to other means. They will continue to put pressure onto the village until you give in and they will do it by any means necessary."

"Astute as always, Princess Hayami," he then walks over to Yona laying a hand on her shoulder. "Princess Yona," his voice alerting her to look up, "it's never going to be. If I acknowledge Soo-Won as successor I'd be admitting Hak is a traitor. Which I will never do because we all know that it isn't true."

"Using me as a scapegoat was smart on their part," Hak admits.

"Don't worry, either of you," looking us both, "the Fire Clan wouldn't dare do any worse than they already have."

'You're wrong on that assumption, grandpa Mundok.' Thinking on how this if most likely only the beginning of the troubles the Wind Clan will face. Knowing Kan Soo-Jin he presumably would have his second son Kan Tae-Jun in charge of this. Sure, he has Kan Kyo-Ga his eldest, but he wouldn't have his heir bother with such things as this. My point is I knowing Tae-Jun, he will cause more harm to the village since he despises Hak out of his jealousy for me and the throne I would have inherited.

This entire situation is chaos and will lead to more harm than good in any angle you look at it. Honestly, the only way for all of this to end is for grandpa Mundok agree to Soo-Won to be appointed king. The only problem is the grandpa Mundok won't do that because he is no longer general and with Hak being on the run with us... I just don't see what it is that we could possibly do to help.

Wandering through the halls of the main house trying to get my thoughts in order I hear a commotion down the hall, towards Yona's room. Panic consumes me, as I start sprinting to the room only to see Yona completely fine. My panic now concerns someone else who lays passed out on the floor; Tae-Yeon.

"What happened?!" Kneeling beside grandpa Mundok as I life Tae-Yeon into my arms.

"An attack, but don't worry he'll be fine once he takes his medicine."

Feeling relief at hearing this I relax, but I don't stay that way for long. "Grandpa," Hak speaking up, "the merchants bringing Tae-Yeon's medicine haven't arrived yet."

Tae-Woo claims, "I'll go find them."

Only to be halted, "We've got a big problem! The merchants bringing the water were attack on the road. All of them have been horribly injured!"

"Oh no, now we've been cut off by our last source of water," grandpa Mundok now looking even more concerned.

"And Tae-Yeon's medicine! We have to get it, now!" Yona adds in determinedly.

"I'll take care of Tae-Yeon," my voice unwavering during the chaos. "I'll prepare a s. "I'll prepare a steam treatment to help him breathe a little easier till we find a way to get his medicine."

This gives grandpa Mundok some relief, "Thank you, my dear." I just smile before focusing on the arguing around us.

"This has to be the work of the Fire Clan!"

"Say something general Hak!"

"We have to do something!"

"Everyone please," my voice interrupting the shouts of the villagers, "I know this is a dire situation and many of you are frightened. However, you must not give into that fear and focus on what can be done presently. Right, Hak," my silvery violet eyes latching onto his uneasy sapphire blues.

"Tori is right," his eyes gaining back that determined shine of his. "Right now, we focus on what we can do instead of the what can't be. Han-Dae," looking to him fiercely, "I know you're injured, but you're the fastest rider in the entire village. I need you to go to ride out to the doctor in the east woods and got Tae-Yeon his medicine."

"Sure master," giving Hak a thumbs up, "I'll be the one to save the day!"

Hak chuckles, the corner of his lips upturn, "Good, but bargain with her."

"Yes sir," saluting Hak before running off to do as he was ordered.

"Listen up everybody," Hak turning to look at the others. "We're all angry, but we can't retaliate. The Fire Clan's military far exceeds our own at the moment. I won't let us get dragged into a feudal war. But I swear to you I will rectify this. We're a resilient people, damming the river won't kill us. Trust me to do right by our clan. We must stay strong, go on with our lives. As your leader that is my command!"

"He actually gave us an order!"

"This is the same guy who said it would be too much trouble being Clan leader!"

I watch on as everyone praises Hak for his willingness to command them in such a situation. I know he never wanted the position, but being leader fits him so well. It's like he was made for it, but I should have expected that being grandpa Mundok's grandson; adopted or not.

With all the commotion I ask a few men to carry a tub full of boiling hot water to prepare for Tae-Yeon's steam treatment. This will help him breathe if only a little easier. Hopefully to where he can recover some before his medicine is brought back.

Deciding to use not only the tub of boiling water I have a bath prepared as well giving more steam to create. So, I sit in a warm tub, Tae-Yeon still in my arms as I bathe. His breathing we sit in the water starts to become easier, but I don't stay too long just long enough for us both to be clean and then some.

"He's gotten a little better. I think that steam really helped him out," Hak stating as we both watch over Yona and Tae-Yeon as they sleep. "You should get some rest too."

"I'll be fine and what about you? I'm sure you could use the rest as well after everything that's happened over the past couple days."

Hak walks over to my side, kneeling next to me, "You should worry more about yourself than me. I can handle this," his eyes conveying his worry for me, "it's you that should worry about yourself." His calloused hand laying gently on my cheek before he gets up moving away from me.

He leaves me with my thoughts, thoughts focused solely on the way he'd been acting just now. No matter what he said, his eyes conveyed something else entirely. The look in his eyes makes me worry and something in my gut tells me he's about to do something stupid.

"Don't think you can hide anything from me, Hak. I know you better than anyone."

Knowing there is no point in overthinking right now I prepare myself for bed. Laying myself down between Yona and Tae-Yeon taking in the comfort they give. It didn't take long for everything to go dark as I fell asleep. 'I suppose I was more tired than I thought.'

"Find us."

My eyes look around the white blank open space, my heart pounding in my chest. For some reason those voices make my body feel so warm. As if a raging fire is burning within me.

I don't understand how the voices of me I do not know make me feel in such a way. A way that Hak only ever seem to make me feel. So, who could these men be if they make my body burn with such fire.

"Do not be afraid," the voices say together making it hard to tell who they are. "For we will always be with you. We will see you once more as we did long ago."

"I don't understand," finally speaking up, "who are you? Or should I say who are all of you?"

"You will know the answers to your questions soon. Until we see you in this lifetime."

The white blank space soon began to become dark once more. I look around in panic, "Wait! What do you mean? None of this makes any sense!"

"Rest easy in knowing we will see you soon." With those last few words, the world around me becomes black.

I gasp as I wake, panting as I look around the room. Lifting a hand to my head as I relax my breathing I can't help feeling as though I forgot something important. Even the dream I just had I couldn't remember making me feel more unsettled.

Looking over I see Tae-Yeon still having some trouble breathing, but not as bad as before. On the other side of me Yona rests peacefully, looking as though she's having pleasant dreams. 'If only I could have such dreams even when I can't remember them.'

"Han-Dae's back! And he brought the medicine with him!" I feel as if someone just removed a heavy weight off my chest as hearing those words.

Now I know he'll be okay, but I still have any uneasy feeling as I remember Hak's actions last night. He may not have said much, but his eyes always tell me more than he's sometimes willing to share. I just know he's going to do something idiotic.

Han-Dae, Tae-Woo and a few other are soon in the room with me and a now awake Yona. Watching as Tae-Yeon drinks the medicine. Satisfaction settles at seeing how Tae-Yeon appears to be better.

"Good job, Han-Dae," I praise causing the keeled over man to look up at me, "I'm very happy with how quickly you came back."

A blush forms on his cheeks, "Of course, anything for the village Ms. Tori."

"Tae-Yeon how are you feeling? Are you in any pain? Do you need anything?" Yona questions obviously still worried.

"Thank you for asking, but I think I'm all better now," everything around him seeming to glow with a sparkle in his bright blue eyes.

"CUUTTTEEE!"

I can't help giggling at the sight of everyone trying to cuddle Tae-Yeon closer at his adorableness. He just smiles through it all looking so at ease.

"Tae-Yeon," my voice getting his attention as I move to kneel next to him. "Now, I want for you to take it easy. No more strenuous work or... Someone. Will. Answer. To. Me," the air around me thickening with my ill intent.

Everyone, but Tae-Yeon couldn't help thinking, 'So scary.' As they shiver with dread lines forming not that I knew that.

"Don't worry, big sister," Tae-Yeon moving to hug me and I welcome it. "I promise I won't."

"Good boy," patting his head in praise as he nuzzles his face in my neck.

"Alright," Tae-Woo speaks up, "I'm gonna bead out and check on the injured merchants. Might as well take this corpse with me so he's not in the way."

"Can't you be a little gentler with me," Han-Dae's strangled out voice asks weakly as he's being dragged away.

From the corner of my eye, I watch as Yona's face falls, looking rather sad. I too feel such a way thinking about how many could have possibly been injured due to the Fire Clan. Just knowing that they do this to ensure Soo-Won inherits the throne makes me feel sick. These weren't the actions of a Soo-Won that I know, but I suppose I never really knew him at all.

"Alright everyone," I announce, "it's time that Tae-Yeon get some more rest. All of you as well since it is still rather early."

I move to sit Tae-Yeon back in bed, but he stops me. Pulling on my sleeve as I move, "Do you have to go, big sister?" His big blue eyes begging me to stay.

"Yes," my answer causing him to pout, "you need more rest and I need to help out with the injured. So, please get some more rest. It'll give big sister some peace of mind."

"Okay..."

"Thank you, Tae-Yeon," kissing his forehead softly as I tuck him back into bed. His eyes already drooping from drowsiness as he quickly falls back to sleep. "Sweet dreams."

I then leave intent on going to going to the healing house. And once I arrive there, I met with a grim sight of so many people injured. It makes my gut twist in disgust that someone is capable of doing such harm to people who've done nothing wrong.

Instantly I'm kneeling beside one of the injured men as he writhes out in pain. I take his hand in mine, giving him what little comfort, I could as a large wound is being stitched up. He immediately is squeezing my hand, trying to distract himself from the pain as I speak softly to him in hopes it will distract him as well.

Movement from the entrance catches my eye as I'm now wrapping a patient with some bandages. Yona stands in the doorway, staring in horror at the sight before her. I never wanted her to see such things, but the way things are now it's better she sees it sooner rather than later.

Han-Dae now stands next to her saying what I hope are words of comfort. Tears gather in her eyes, but they aren't ones I think she needs comfort from. It's when I see a determined look on her face that I know what she wishes to do as she looks into my eyes conveying her resolve. I give her a nod, conveying my own as I move to follow her to prepare for the journey ahead.

I gather some supplies with the help of Yona who grabs what I tell her what I think we'll need. We don't take much, only some medical supplies and my sword that I had hidden away here for safe keeping. I strap it to my back along with the bag filled with supplies before we both move to leave.

As we walk down the hallway I see Tae-Yeon kneeling next to a window with a familiar hand rubbing his head. 'I knew you were stupid Hak, but not this stupid.' My eyes narrowing on the familiar hand as it's pulled away leaving Tae-Yeon gazing longingly after the owner of it with tears gathered in his eyes.

"Tae-Yeon." Yona having called out his name grabs his attention as I stay behind watching what will happen. She walks over, "Hi there, who was that?"

Using his arm to wipe away his tears he looks away from her, "No one. What are you up too?"

"I actually, came to thank you," her words confusing Tae-Yeon and me looking at her curiously.

"For what?"

She kneels, bowing her head at him, "For giving me a warm meal to eat. For wiping away my tears. For cheering me up. I'm so grateful," her head lifting as I gaze at her in surprise. "Thank you for giving me hope."

"I'd thought you'd be here longer, but it sounds like you're saying goodbye," his eyes wandering from her to gazing outside longingly once more. "But I... I wish he and big sister would stay!" His tears falling as he tries to hide them as my own tears gather in my eyes.

Yona tearfully moves to hug him. She pulls back telling Tae-Yeon how she'll remember him and the Wind Clan no matter what. That all of them along with him would help give her strength before saying her goodbyes.

"Lena," calling out her fake name catching her attention, "I'll catch up with you in a moment." She nods understanding I too need to give Tae-Yeon my own goodbyes then leaves to most likely stop Hak.

Tae-Yeon then looks to me, his eyes still filled with tears. A sob escaping him as he moves to get up, running over to me as I kneel down, taking him into my arms. Sobs shake his small, fragile, but strong body as my own tears run down my cheeks.

I knew this would be the most difficult part. Saying goodbye to this little boy who means so much to me just like my sister and his brother. He truly is to me, the little brother I always wanted, but never got the chance to have.

I pull away, wiping the tears from his red cheeks as he still cries his little heart out. "Tae-Yeon," my voice breaking as I speak, "I want you to remember you will always be my little brother and that I will always love you.

"I-I-I don't w-want you to g-go," Tae-Yeon's shakily says as his lip trembles.

My heart clenches painfully in my chest as I too don't wish to leave him. It's then I remove the ribbon tied around my wrist. Taking a knife cutting it in have then tying it securely around his own smaller one.

"This was given to me by someone I hold very dear to me. He's always been there for me for as long as I can remember. After our mother passed away, he gave this to me as a reminder of not only her, but of his promise to always be by my side." Tae-Yeon looks down at the ribbon, "I want you to keep it."

"B-but isn't this really special to you? Why would you cut it if it's so important to you?"

"Yes, it is very special to me and which is why I'm giving you half," my words confusing him as he looks up to me. "This way whenever you think of me look to this ribbon," lacing my ribbon covered wrist with his own. "I too will do this when thinking of you and this way we'll always be tied together." I then take his face, cupping his cheeks in my hands as I gaze into his sweet blue eyes. "No matter what happens Tae-Yeon Hak and I will come back to you. This I promise and I always keep my promises, don't I?"

He nods his head, grabbing hold of my hands taking solace in them, "Good boy," kissing him softly on the forehead. "I love you, Tae-Yeon. Until we meet again." I then leave our embrace, leaping out the window following after Hak and Yona.

I race towards the front entrance of the village knowing that is where Hak and Yona will be. Barely, I could make out the two of them with Yona standing in front of Hak, halting him. Their voices grow louder and I grow close enough to hear:

"And what about, my sister?! Are you going to abandon her after you swore to her that your life is hers!?"

I slow my pace, watching on as Hak bows his head seeming unable to look my sister in the eyes. Knowing that what she speaks of is true and probably feeling ashamed of himself.

"She's right you know," the sound of my voice causing Hak to flinch as he turns to look to me, his shame apparent. "You swore to me. Are you going to break your oath so easily just because you think this is what's best?" He goes to say something, but I don't give him the chance, "I need you by my side," I say walking to stand before him. "I want you by my side forever and isn't that what you want as well?"

"Princess," his eyes gazing into mine before he looks away with his hand covering his face. "Why do you always have so persistent and so blunt too. Saying things like that," shaking his head, "you just don't understand what saying things like that does to me."

"Hak," I say gaining his attention once more, "I- we need you, so please. Don't leave us behind."

Heaving a heavy sigh, he smiles looking at both of us, "Alright, fine," eyes trained on me, "you win."

"You bastard," grandpa Mundok says with a tick mark on his face as he points an arrow at Hak.

"Grandpa!" Hak says in panic, sweat nervously forming on his brow.

"You disrespectful brat!"

"Are you telling me you were here the whole time?!"

"I should put an arrow in you for everything you said to these brave determined girls!"

I can't help the giggle that forms, "Thank you, grandpa Mundok.

My words soften him, lowering his bow and arrow as he walks over to the three of us. "With the both of you leaving, I feel like I'm losing two more grandchildren," both his hands coming to rest on mine and Yona's cheeks.

"I understand," Yona answers, "others said that too. That sister and I are their family. It was nice to hear such words and it's why we have to go. We'll both be fine," looking to me as I nod in agreement, "just promise us that you'll protect the Wind Clan. They're your main priority."

"Just don't forget that if you both ever find yourselves in trouble, if your heart's despair or you need shelter of any kind. We will always be there to help the both of you. We'll take your sides, no matter who your enemies are or what it means for our future. All either of you have to do is ask and we will be there no matter what. And remember this Princess Hayami," his eyes focused solely on me, "that you are the true heir to the throne and when the time comes, we will help you regain what is rightfully yours."

"We'll remember grandpa Mundok."

xxxxx

"Looks like he's nowhere to be found here."

"You're right on that Princess Hayami. So typical setting us out to find some guy without even telling us where he lives."

"Well, that's to be expected I suppose. Honestly, I don't even think grandpa Mundok really knows exactly where the oracle lives. Other than the fact that he's somewhere in the borders of the Wind."

"Do you think what Mundok said about this oracle helping us find the path we need to take, sister?"

I sigh, "I'm not really sure. When I was little before you were even born, I remember meeting him once in the palace, but then he suddenly disappeared. I only ever saw him that one time, but I think following grandpa Mundok's advice is a good place to start."

"I've heard in the past that the oracle lived in the temple at the palace. Was heavily involved in politics. However, Prince Yu-Hon disapproved of his foresight, banishing the oracle from the palace. Now living a more secluded existence, far away from others."

"Far away from others huh? This place can't more secluded if you ask me," Yona looking around the canyon.

"It may look uninhabitable, but you can make a home here if you put your mind to it. Well, not you Princess Yona, maybe your sister, but you wouldn't last. You'd probably fall off a cliff your first night."

"Now Hak, I'm sure over time Yona will grow used to living off the land and camping out in the woods."

"If you say so, Princess Hayami," looking incredulously at the thought. "Speaking of camping. We're gonna have to go ahead and camp for the night. We got a lot of ground to cover if we're gonna find this oracle guy and it gets rather chilly up here at night."

"Don't worry, if I get cold, I'll just have you to cuddle up too along with Yona."

Hak's hsu quandao flies from his hands as he falters. My words seeming to make him lose his focus as he had been swinging it around. He goes to retrieve it, kneeling down only to pause just for a moment before picking it up.

"Fine by me," turning back to me with a look in his eyes, "but I might misbehave."

"Hak..." my words lost as he gazes down at me.

"If I'm overcome with passion," he then grabs hold of me, my hand still locked with Yona's causing her to move with me. His large body trapping me against the stone wall with my face between his large hands. "Then I might do something like this."

"Stop it, Hak! What are you doing to Hayami?!"

His head moving to be between my neck and shoulder though not touching them. His eyes hold a seriousness to them, just like the night we escaped the royal palace. Something is wrong.

"Quiet!" Yona silencing at his words, "Footsteps," his words a mere whisper. "It's forty no, more like fifty."

"Enemies?"

"There's too many of them for they to be scouts," replying to Yona's question. "If these guys are after us, they mean business."

"Could it be the kings troupes or many it's Fire Clan soldiers?"

"Ya know something Princess Hayami," completely ignoring my question. "I wouldn't mind cuddling with you since ya got all the curves in the right places. Unlike your sister."

"And just what is that supposed to mean?!" Yona chasing after Hak who dodges her movements. As I follow right beside her feeling the tension in the air that Hak is trying to play off.

He suddenly stops, Yona crashing into his back as I stop beside him staring down all the Fire Clan soldiers. "Now that I'm all warmed up. It's time to kick some ass," unwrapping his glaive, standing defensively before us. "Be sure to stick close to me, Princesses. This could get messy."

"Right, like I'm going to let you have all the fun," unsheathing my katana. "You worry about the troupes standing in the way while I focus on the arrows!"

"As you command, my lady!" Swiping his hsu quandao at the soldiers ahead, sending them flying.

Arrows shower from overhead, the slash of my katana slicing them in half away from us. More soldiers come, sliding down the steep cliff with Hak easily taking them out.

"Come on! Is that all you got!"

"You're quick lightning beast," an unpleasantly familiar voice calls out, Kan Tae-Jun.

"Figures this is all your doing."

"I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. Greetings general Son Hak and of course Princess Yona and," his eyes focusing on me, "Princess Hayami. I'm sure you remember me. Now that I have your attention-!"

"Look the view from here is breathtaking wouldn't you agree Princess Hayami?" Saying as we ignore then fool behind us.

"Yes, I must agree it is quite the view."

"How can you just ignore me like that! I've been preparing my speak all afternoon for this!"

"All I heard was a droning noise," Hak uninterestedly states. "I'm not a general any more so sorry for ruining your big moment."

"Oh, that's okay I can just us your nickname or something… WAIT, WHAT!? You're not a general anymore?!"

"Nope, just a wandering traveler in search of a new life. So that means," his relaxed persona disappearing, "My actions are mine and mine alone. They have nothing to do with the Wind Clan anymore."

"That's very interesting to know, but I'm not here to slash out at the Wind Clan. All I want is the Princesses especially there'd haired one and I'll kill anyone who gets in my way!" Unsheathing his sword, launching a volley of arrows at us.

Hak instantly goes to block them, grabbing hold of Yona as I stand behind him cutting down arrows from behind. Man Tae-Jun has his soldiers immediately attack us, trying to halt our movements. That doesn't stop Hak from falling any man who comes within range of his hsu quandao.

Arrows again fly at us, but Hak keeps his hold on Yona as I move, leaping to the cliff side. Taking my katana, digging it into the rock, using it to help me easily climb up the steep. As Hak does the same with his glaive, launching himself above just before the arrows hit the ground.

Hak teases her, even in a situation such as this, but we don't stop moving. Running, jumping across the stone path as we avoid the oncoming soldiers. We stay in formation with Hak in front, Yona in the middle and I in the back.

The arrows fly once more in front and back with both Hak and I cutting them down. Suddenly, Yona trips, falling down losing her grip on Hak's hand. Time seems to slow down in this very moment.

"Aim an arrow at Princess Yona!"

That order has me moving, standing to block the oncoming arrow wishing to harm my little sister. I'm not hit though as I hear the thump of something piercing flesh. Horror dawns on my face seeing Hak with his body covering my own with the arrow meant for my sister piercing his shoulder.

"HAK!" Immediately I turn to him, laying a hand on his shoulder looking at his wound. Yona rushes to us speaking frantically as I grab hold of the shaft of the arrow. "Please, forgive me!" I say just before I pull the arrow out, his face contorting in pain, but he never makes a sound.

"You have nothing to be sorry for, Princess. Besides, I promised to be your sword and shield. Now let's get going," grabbing hold of both me and Yona. Somehow still able to use his hsu quandao to launch us over the troupes even with us in both his arms.

He puts me down once he lands, still holding Yona in his arms as he runs with me following. Hak takes us to a bunch of bushes encasing a small area next to a cliffside. He then sets Yona down along with the bow and arrows on his back, looking to the both of us.

"You both stay right here. Do not move no matter what."

"But Hak, your shoulders bleeding," Yona disclosing her worry.

"That's not my blood, besides you got nothing to worry about. You got your sister with you so you're not alone," he then runs off before I can say anything to him.

Yona's hand holds one of my own, me looking to her as she stares off to where Hak disappeared too. It's then I notice the sticky feeling on my hand. Removing it from my sisters hold, to see blood covering it; Hak's blood.

My hand starts shaking as I remember the feeling of his blood as I removed the arrow. Warm, yet sticky like it still is, but wet unlike it is now. Drying, cracking as it sticks to my hand, but still so red, so similar to the color of my hair.

"Where are the Princesses? Don't tell me they just disappeared?" Kan Tae-Jun's voice alerting me of how close he is to us.

A gasp escapes Yona and lift a finger to my lips to signal her to stay quiet. Trying to listen in on what they're saying. Maybe telling me something of value.

"Hak might be serving as a distraction while Princess Hayami and Princess Yona work to escape. After all Princess Hayami seems quite adept at wielding a blade."

"I didn't even know sweet, gentle Hayami could fight let alone be able to wield a sword," Kan Tae-Jun admits. "Find them, no matter what the cost." Even from here I could hear the clashing of blades as he continues talking, "He's starting to look quite fatigued. It seems that even the lightning beast is human after all."

"It was a poison tipped arrow that hit him," my eyes narrowing into slits at this information from what seems the man to be the one to have shot the arrow.

"You dare to have shot at the Princesses with that?!"

"You were very certain that Hak would move into harm's way to protect the both of them. The poison would have knocked out any normal man by now. He's stronger than we anticipated."

"The next time he turns his back to us. Hit him with another one," Kan Tae-Jun orders.

Terror courses through me at the thought of another of those poison arrows hitting Hak. If he's hit with another one there is no way he'll survive. 'Hak will die and there is no way I'll allow that to happen!'

Turning to look to Yona I see the fear in her eyes at the hearing what had just been said. "Yona," her eyes looking to me, "I can't allow Hak to die. So, I'm going to go out there to stop the arrow. I need you to stay here out of harm's way and hidden, promise me."

She nods and that's all I need. With my sword in its sheath, I race forward at the man aiming an arrow at the man I love. Halting just before I pivot, launching a roundhouse kick to the man's head causing his to fall of the cliff into a tree down below.

"Princess...Hayami?!"

I round on Kan Tae-Jun, a ferocious glare trained on him. He flinches from my gaze taking a step back as if he were afraid. In a way I suppose he should be.

"I never would have guessed that you'd come after me. Where's your sister?" My glare never faltering, "Never mind that, as a representative of the Fire Clan I came to talk to the both of you. Let's just calm down a little. There's no need for you to be alarmed. I'm here to bring the both of you back to the crimson dragon palace."

"To bring us back, huh," my voice blank.

"That's right, his highness Soo-Won will ascend the throne tomorrow morning," pausing before he continues. "My condolences on the death of your father it must have been painful to lose him so suddenly along with being chased out of the palace. If you come with and tell the truth about what happened, you could stop Soo-Won from becoming king then get the vengeance your father deserves. Isn't that something that you want?!"

His words feel so empty to me. It wouldn't matter what he would say to me I know he doesn't truly want to help me get vengeance for my father. No, what he wants is for me to come back, take the throne with him becoming the next king of Kouka; it sickens me!

My bangs casting a shadow over my eyes, everything around me is drowned out even the calls from Hak. All I could think on is how everything is so corrupt in this country, the land that I was meant to reign over. It's true I tried to do what I could to help the people, to help my nation, but I know I failed in every aspect of that because I am simply a woman. A woman in a world where men rule and woman are just there to simper over them like little lost lambs!

I don't know the reason as to why my thoughts come to this. When I should be more focused on surviving, protecting my little sister and saving Hak. However, I can't let this fool continue with these stupid ideals of his.

"So, Princess-"

"Silence!" my harsh command shocking him, "After everything that you've done to the Wind Clan. You dare act as though you are an innocent party to everything that has happened!?"

"Oh, no Princess Hayami. Those were my father's orders I had nothing-!"

"Don't you dare try to lie to me, Kan Tae-Jun! Your father may have ordered you to block the river, but I know your father isn't so stupid as to attack innocent merchants! Those were the actions of an immature brat seeking a way to get back at Hak!" Fear now coming to Kan Tae-Jun eyes at knowing I didn't believe his words, "It's obvious as to why you despise Hak so immensely especially since you ordered that he be killed!" I then raise my hand, pointing at him, "You care nothing for the fate of this kingdom! All you wished was to attain a throne that you had no chance of having! People such as you disgust me, but," lowering my hand as well as my voice, "I can't blame everything on you. I have much to blame myself for however I will learn, changing not only myself, but eventually the fate of this nation! Now," my eyes glaring, having never left his own frightened one's, "I've wasted enough of my time on someone such as you who is nothing, but a mindless imbecile!"
