The next few days were rough for Cleo. She lost her apatite, which resulted in her losing weight.
Everyone was glad when she ate some of her breakfast at the end of the week.
"since nobody is sick anymore can some of my friends please come over?'' Min Jun begged.
"Only if they haven't been exposed to the sickness within the last two weeks.
Min Jun called up all of his friends and asked if they wanted to come over and play.
Thirty minutes later Tommy, Dil, and Phil agreed to come over. Chuckie was still to scared to have contact with people. Kimi had nobody to bring her over, and Zack's aunt was busy working so she couldn't bring him over.
"Guys guess what?'' Min Jun said excitedly as he lead them all down to the playroom.
"What?'' Tommy and Phil asked as they got to the bottom of the stairs.
"Cleo is going to have puppies.'' Min Jun told them with a big smile on his face.
"That's cool.'' Phil said as he began to pull out toys from the shelves.
"Puppies are a lot of fun.'' Tommy assured him as he remembered when Spiffi was a puppy.
Back upstairs Dil and Ji Yeon were sitting on the couch.
"What do you want to do?'' Dil asked.
"Just lay here and watch Bluey.'' Ji Yeon answered pulling her pink blanket up to her chin.
This wasn't what Dil had in mind when he had heard that they would be coming over to play. He sighed and got up and walked downstairs to see what Tommy and the other boys were doing.
"What are you guys doing?'' Dil asked as he entered the playroom and found the three boys surrounded by toys.
"We're building an obstacle course for our cars to race through.'' Tommy told him.
"Can I play too?'' Dil asked sitting down next to Tommy.
"Sure, But I thought you wanted to play with Ji Yeon:'' Min Jun answered.
"She doesn't want to play right now.'' Dil said with a frown as he picked up a car.
"She still isn't feeling to good.'' Min Jun told him.
"How come she's still sick?'' Dil asked with a confused look.''I wasn't sick that long.''
"She had to get her pendix out and she had a kidney infection.'' Min Jun explained.
The boys raced their cars around various toys for awhile until they began to get hungry.
"Anybody else getting hungry?'' Min Jun asked setting his car down.
The other boys nodded and followed Min Jun up the stairs. They went to the kitchen and found Ji Yeon sitting at the table refusing to eat.
"It doesn't taste like its sposed to.'' Ji Yeon whined and pushed her bowl of noodles away from her.
"I know, but you need to eat something.'' Mi Sun told her putting the bowl back in front of her daughter.
Ji Yeon picked up her pink Hello Kitty training chopsticks and slowly began eating her lunch. She was hungry, but the noodles didn't taste right.
Mi Sun understood her daughter's feelings as she still hadn't completely recovered her sense of taste and smell either. She sat down next to Jo Yeon and ate her lunch despite it not tasting that great.
The boys watched the exchange as they took their seats at the table and began eating their own lunch.
"We'll try something with not much flavor for dinner.'' Mi Sun said to Ji Yeon as she took her and Ji Yeon's bowls to the sink.
For the rest of the afternoon Ji Yeon and Mi Sun relaxed on the couch while the boys played downstairs.
Mi Sun was about to start making dinner when she noticed Cleo acting strange. What alarmed her the most was when Cleo began bleeding and whining in pain. Mi Sun quickly loaded the kids and Cleo up in the car and headed off to the vet.
When they arrived at the vet Mi Sun called Didi to pick up the kids while she took Cleo inside.
"Why is Cloe hurting?'' Ji Yeon asked as she sat in Mi Sun's lap waiting to be called.
"I don't know.'' Mi Sun answered.''That's why we have to take her to the animal doctor.''
It didn't take long for Cleo's name to be called. By this point the vet had to come into the waiting room and carry Cleo into the exam room as she was having a hard time breathing.
"it looks like Cleo is in labor.'' The vet explained after performing her exam.
Mi Sun couldn't help but feel slightly relieved that she might not have to deal with puppies. She knew it was to early for Cleo to deliver. She just hoped Cleo would be ok.
"What can we do?'' Mi Sun asked.
"We just have to give her time to deliver the puppies, but I'll warn you, they might not look normal.'' The vet explained.
Mi Sun nodded and petted Cleo's head.
An hour later the first puppy appeared. He was purple and wrinkled and had backwards facing legs. He wasn't breathing. The vet did everything she could to get him to breathe, but he was to tiny and nothing happened.
The next puppy came out tan like Cleo with a little tuft of fluff on it's head. She was more damaged then the first with her legs fused together. Once again the vet tried to get her to breathe, but nothing came of it.
The third puppy came a little later and was the smallest of them all. He was a mix of tan and purple and with no legs at all. Like his brother and sister he was a stillborn.
Cleo's breathing was more labored then before. She was still weak from her recent illness and Mi Sun feared that they might lose her too.
The vet checked for more puppies and after finding none she gave Cleo some oxygen and put her in a cage to recover.
Mi Sun hated to leave Cleo there, but knew she was in the best place possible. Cleo would stay until she was well enough to get fixed and then come.
It was late at night when Mi Sun returned home. She put Ji Yeon to bed and got herself into bed.
"Is everything ok?'' Jin asked when Mi Sun layed down next to him.
"No.'' Mi Sun answered.''Cleo lost her puppies and now I'm afraid we'll lose her too.''
Mi Sun went on to explain the nights events and describing the puppies. He had an idea that a certain hyper purple poodle mix was the father of Cleo's puppies and that it had probably happened when Cleo had gotten out and been poisoned. That was probably why the puppies were deformed.
"Cleo is strong. She's survived more then we'll ever know.'' Jin said holding Mi Sun close.
A week later Cleo returned home acting like her old self. Min Jun was disappointed to not be getting puppies, but he was glad he at least still had Cleo.
