"Grown ups are dumb.'' Kimi remarked crossing her arms.
"Why do you say that Kimi?'' Chuckie asked.
"Ever since all of the bad people started being mean to people who look like me and Min Jun, mommy and daddy have been more protective of us and I don't like it.'' Kimi explained.''Why can't everybody get along.''
"Yeah. I agree. We didn't do anything to anybody and we get punished.'' Min Jun added.
"You can't go trick or treating either?'' Kimi asked.
Min Jun shook his head no.''I'm sick of all the mean grown ups. My mommy left and my daddy had to get a new job cuz of them.''
"I thought your mommy was coming back soon?'' Lil said.
"She is, but I think she wants to move back to Korea.'' Min Jun told his friends as the bell rang signaling that it was time to leave the playground and go back to class.
It was early October and all of the kids were getting prepared for Halloween, but first they had to get the vaccine. They all stood in line with their parents.
For once Chuckie wasn't afraid of getting the shot. He was more nervous about getting the sickness then a small prick in his arm.
"I'm glad that's over.'' Chuckie sighed with a smile as he walked out of the building with his parents.
Over the next few days the kids complained of their arms hurting, but after that there were no other symptoms, except for one of the kids.
Mi Sun arrived home and was surprised to find Min Jun asleep on the couch. She quickly put Ji Yeon in her room and shut the door before Cleo had a chance to wake her up, and went in search of her husband.
"What's wrong with Min Jun?'' Mi Sun asked leaning on the doorframe of the garage.
"He had a bad reaction to the vaccine.'' Jin explained as he closed the hood of his car.
"You got him the vaccine without talking to me?'' Mi Sun asked.
"You weren't here and if he didn't get it, he would've been kicked out of school.'' Jin told her wiping his hands on a rag.
"You know how I felt about the vaccines and you go and do it anyway.'' Mi Sun stated loudly.
"Like I said, you weren't here and I had to make the decision alone just like you did when you went away.'' Jin said coldly.
"You left your job without talking to me.'' Mi Sun yelled as Jin went passed her and into the house.
"You don't know what it was like out there.'' Jin said.
"You could've at least told me you were planning to leave so we could prepare.'' Mi Sun said.
"You could've told me you were planning to move back to Korea.'' Jin argued.
They were interrupted by Min Jun running into the kitchen.
"I don't want to move back.'' Min Jun cried as he stood between his parents.''I don't want to leave my friends.''
"We'll talk about this later.'' Mi Sun said as Ji Yeon began to cry.
"So anybody want to come over and watch a scary movie after school?'' Phil asked as the kids sat eating their lunch the next day at school.
"Count me in.'' Min Jun said.''I'll do anything with you guys while I have the chance.''
Min Jun was glad he was able to return to school so he could see his friends before he moved.
"What do you mean?'' Tommy asked.
"We're moving.'' Min Jun told them as he played with his food.
After school the kids met at Tommy's house like they normally would and went up to Tommy's room where Phil put in the DVD and pressed play.
"What's so scary about a talking dog?'' Zack asked as the movie began.
Phil had spotted Zack in the crowd of kids after achool and invited him to the movie.
"Just watch.'' Phil shushed him as the movie played on.
"That was way to scary for a cartoon.'' Chuckie shuddered as he cowered under a blanket.
"That was a little scary, but I got a even scarier movie, and it's not a cartoon.'' Min Jun said with a smile as he pulled a DVD out of his backpack.
He put it in and made sure to put it in English so that his friends could understand it since it was originally made in Korean.
"I don't think I want to watch anymore.'' Chuckie cried diving underneath the blanket and covering his ears.
"How do you even have this movie?'' Phil asked.
"My cousin left it at our house and I found it in my older sister's room.'' Min Jun explained.
"That was creepy. I'm so ready for Halloween.'' Tommy said when the movie ended.
"Have fun.'' Kimi sighed.
"Yeah, get us some candy.'' Min Jun added as they all headed downstairs.
Soon the doorbell rang and Min Jun, Chuckie, and Kimi were picked up to go home.
"We gotta do something. It's not fair that they can't trick or treat just cuz of what they look like.'' Tommy declared.
"We could put a haunted house together and get all of their favorite candy.'' Zack suggested.
"Great idea.'' Lil said just as the doorbell rang and it was time for Zack to go home.
"I'll. draw up a design and show you guys tomorrow.'' Zack offered before he left.
"We'll take care of the decorations.'' Phil and Lil said in unison.
"I'll get the candy.'' Tommy said.
"Why do you want to move back?'' Jin asked after the kids had been put to bed.''We've built a good life here.''
Mi Sun sighed before answering.''For the first time in a long time, I felt safe. Ji Yeon didn't have one meltdown when we went into a store. She feels safer there.''
"This is a big decision. I Just started a job. We have family and friends here.'' Jin pointed out.
"I know. I just don't know what to do.'' Mi Sun said.
They ended their discussion there before they began arguing again and went to bed.
They didn't speak of the matter for the rest of the month as both of them became busy with their jobs. Mi Sun still hadn't decided if she would get the shot for herself and Ji Yeon. She still had a little time to think on it.
Halloween soon arrived and the kids got their special haunted house put together with the help of the adults and everyone came over to celebrate. Cases had begun to go back up because not everyone had been vaccinated, so none of the adults felt comfortable sending their children out to trick or treat.
The kids went in pairs into the haunted house that was complete with glow in the dark spider webs and rubber bats. It wasn't to scary, but the kids enjoyed it none the less. They loved it even more when at the end they received a trick or treat bucket filled with candy.
