Hey, hey, hey! Welcome to a new series, where I try to keep my sanity intact by sharing with you some of the things that I thought while writing Tsukuyomi's Son.
From Chapter 11 of Tsukuyomi's Son: The Titan's Curse
"Nor my son either!" A familiar feminine voice said at the entrance of the throne room. Every single deity in attendance looked to see who the intruder was. Alx tensed, not exactly prepared for this quite yet.
"Who are you!?" Zeus boomed.
A human sized figure walked into the room, seemingly unbothered by the amount of power radiating from every deity there. The figure stopped to the right of Alx. Alx chanced a look sideways, before sending a flat look right into the bright-eyed gaze of his mother.
"Hello… mother." Alx said dryly.
"You are not Selene! I will ask again, Who are you?!" Zeus yelled, while gripping his master bolt protectively.
Tsukuyomi had long silver hair that reached the small of her back. She was wearing a gray kimono and on her feet were black Japanese sandals. Her eyes were a bright white, with a swirling black color in the sclera. She smirked, before saying, "Would you like to do the honors, Alx?"
Alx rolled his eyes, knowing his mother had a flair for the theatrics. "If you insist… My lords and ladies of Olympus, this is my mother, Tsukuyomi, the Shinto deity of the moon."
Complete pandemonium broke out among the gods. Hera saying that Alx was a freak of nature. Aphrodite crying about how Selene lied to her. Alx looked down, ashamed of having said nothing, ashamed of his parentage, ashamed-
"I WILL have order in my halls!" Zeus boomed, breaking Alx out of his dark thoughts. All the gods quieted down. "Explain, Alx Bazin," he seethed.
"It is exactly what I have told you, Lord Zeus, my mother is Tsukuyomi, who is present right here, right now." Alx replied with a gulp, knowing all too well of Zeus's reputation of being monumentally paranoid.
"If it abides your paranoia, Lord Zeus, I can have my son swear on the Lake Chikai to not betray Olympus," Tsukuyomi added, expertly ignoring Alx's blatant look of betrayal and nervousness.
"Mother, are you certain? If I-" Alx started.
"Explain," Zeus interrupted. "What is this lake?"
"The Lake Chikai is the equivalent of the River Styx in Japanese mythos. Only, it is about one hundred times more ruthless. Not even Izanami or Izanagi, who in our myths created the world, can break an oath on the Lake Chikai. It is not even a deity. It is a lake full of turmoil, ripe with the blood of the innocent." Tsukuyomi explained.
"And why would my kitten Alx have to swear something on this lake?" Apollo asked, sounding extremely concerned. "From what you've told us, it sounds like this lake is a being a Chaos himself."
"Because the Lake Chikai is also known as the 'Lake of Oaths'. Chikai in Japanese literally means 'oath'. It has also been known since the Japanese creation myth that the Lake Chikai rewards those who keep their oaths with extraordinary powers. Although this has only happened once since the creation of the earth, so the likelihood of it happening to Alx is slim to none." Tsukuyomi explained further.
"But not zero." Zeus finished.
"But not zero." Tsukuyomi confirmed. "The reason I am telling you all this, my lords and ladies, is because nothing Alx has no Greek blood flowing through his veins. Trust me, I checked. The River Styx doesn't have jurisdiction over Alx, no matter his connection to Apollo. And as such, can only swear on the lake. Nothing else would work. I know I have not made myself seem very trustworthy yet, but I love my son, and if I could, I would make him swear an oath on the river Styx, if only to lessen the pain I would feel if he were to betrayed us." Tsukuyomi finished with a sob. Alx felt his eyes begin to water, and briefly thought of begging Zeus to let him swear.
"We will put it to a vote." Zeus finally stated. "Poseidon, we will start with you."
"Alx has been a good friend to my son, and as such, I believe I can offer the same curtesy to him. I vote to have him swear." Poseidon proclaimed.
"Well, I think that if he can live, I can fight him, while also learning about Japanese techniques." Ares said, looking Alx right in the eye as he said it.
"Well, I think Alx dear is just the most darling! I don't want his life to end before Apollo has a chance to have him!" Aphrodite said.
Hephaestus was next. "Kill him. Nothing personal, kid." That was quick.
I didn't finish it, as you can see...
