Chapter 4

After Party Encounter

After the exhausting battle between Class A and Class B, the bond between the hero course students grew and they decided to celebrate their new kinship with a party at the dorms. A grand success as it helped cultivate the relationship between a certain pair of prodigies on a personal level.

Starting with the last cupcake at the party.

Both students jerked back their hands once they saw the other was aiming for the same snack. Filled with tension and awareness, Setsuna and Katsuki felt like the air was choking them with a zip tie. Neither knew exactly what to do, they already agreed on a date beforehand so was there a need to talk any further. Were they allowed to talk to each other before the date?

Too many questions that neither had an answer to.

"Take it," Katsuki told the greenette, shoving his hand back into his pocket.

Surprised by the fact he can show any level of generosity, Setsuna reconfirmed her statement of how he developed way too fast. It was a bit off-putting in the 'I feel like I don't deserve it' kind of way, making her reply, "Oh no, I'm fine. You went for it first."

She gestured to the blond that she was giving him full access to the delicious treat.

With a grunt, Katsuki says, "Doesn't matter. I was just looking for something to chew on."

"Then you can have it. I wasn't hungry at all, just wanted to see how good the cupcakes were," insisted Setsuna, shifting the platter toward him.

"That's why you should just take it," replied Katsuki, pushing the platter back, "Fishlips makes shit like this all the time, so I can eat it whenever I want. YOU, can't."

"I can always come over another time for one."

"That's stupid, there's one right here for you."

"It's not stupid it's called being generous and I get a cupcake fresh."

"You're not coming over for a cupcake, who even does that?"

"Maybe it won't be just for a cupcake."

"Like what?"

"I don't know, talk to someone."

"Who do you even know from here?"

"No one, but I can start."

"Just fucking taking it," Katsuki exclaimed, lifting up the platter to force it toward her.

Grabbing it as well to push back, the greenet told him, "Maybe I don't want it anymore!"

"I swear if you make this any harder than it needs to be I will take this cupcake and force-feed it to you!"

"..."

There was no response back which confused Katsuki at first until he noticed where Setsuna was staring at. It seems during their little shove match over the confectionery their hands have been slowly sliding alongside the plate until finally, the bigger muscular hand of Katsuki rests on the slender knuckles of Setsuna.

Snatching his hand away, Katsuki quickly scolded her, "Get your hands off me!"

"Your hands were on mine though," coyly mumbled Setsuna, it was his hand over hers, 'If anything I should tell you that.'

"Whatever, just stop being difficult," huffed the blond before stomping off.

As the walking stick of dynamite went out of sight, Setsuna looked down at the treat in front of her that she somehow won from one of the most stubbornly determined students in her grade by the notion of not wanting it. Though it was a victory by withdrawal, it was something she can savor as a petty payback for the one-sided defeat he handed her today. Smiling to herself, she took the cupcake and bit into it, thinking, 'Too bad, I wouldn't have minded sharing this with him. Probably should've suggested that.'

Walking away from the party, Katsuki was about to go to his room as the party already didn't interest him, now he was annoyed and didn't want to deal with the discomfiture atmosphere now that Setsuna was there. It was one thing that he lost a bet to go on a date with her, now he has no idea how she was seeing the entire situation, and all of a sudden someone he saw so little of that he can forget that she even went to the school, he was having multiple interacts within a single day of knowing she exists.

'Fucking annoying, this whole day has been out to piss me off. Deku's random power-up and losing a bet because some douchebag got a lucky hit in,' Katsuki grumbled to himself, wanting to relax by himself for the rest of the night. He was raring to go on a full-on rant but stopped when he suddenly found someone standing in his way.

Of all people it could be, strange enough, Jirou was the one who dared to stand before him. The punk rocker looked incredibly flustered as if she was about to faint. With the background noise of the party not far from them it was difficult to hear what she was mumbling but Katsuki managed to make out what it was.

"Go back?"

Taken aback, Katsuki squinted his eyes at her before questioning her, "What?"

"I said go back."

"I hear that part dumbass. I obviously meant why do you want me to go back to that low-tier piss party?"

"To talk to her!" hissed Jirou.

The blond's eyes widen, not spilling the beans yet he tries to play it off, "Who? Actually don't answer that, it's not worth knowing what you're referring to."

While the explosive boy tried to walk past Jirou, she bravely grabbed his arm, "You know I'm talking about Tokage. You two were talking to each other earlier."

"First off, get your palms off of me," he snapped, getting his arm out of her grip. After dusting off his arm as a ploy to buy himself time to think, he says, "And why the hell would I talk to lizard tail again. She already got the cupcake and that's the only reason we were speaking to each other."

"Liar!" Jirou blurted out, covering her mouth. She anxiously searched the area quickly, using both her eyes and quirk to make sure no one was listening in. Returning to the blond, she got uncomfortably close before whispering to him, "I know you got a date with her."

"YOU WHAT!?" was what Katsuki wanted to shout but Jirou made a save, covering his loud mouth with her hands before he attracted any attention. Feeling a red fuzz appearing on his cheek, he shifts his classmate's hand off his mouth to whisper, "How the fuck do you know about that?"

Pointing at her earlobes with a haughty vigor, the violet-haired girl replies, "Hello~?"

"...Fuck, I'm mad at myself for not catching that!"

"Yeah, now go talk to her," insisted Jirou, shoving him back toward the party.

Still not sure why she's doing this, he asked, "Why though!? We already talked once."

"Have a proper one!" she scolded before forcing him to re-enter the room.

Grumbling to himself, Katsuki had a feeling he wouldn't be left alone until he spoke to lizard tail one more time. He didn't immediately start looking for Setsuna though, instead going over to the punch bowl. Might as well get a drink so he has something like a buffer during a conversation. Grabbing a red cup, the blond started pouring himself drinking when familiar clothing came into view. Glancing up, Katsuki was met with Setsuna's graceful face once again.

This time, Setsuna was the first to speak, "We just keep bumping into each other today, maybe there's some mythical force pulling us together."

At first, Katsuki didn't respond, partly because he wasn't expecting her to be here, and partly because he wasn't entertained by her joke. Finally, he said, "What kind of sick joke would waste time and energy just to put us together."

"You'll be surprised," was the coquettish response Setsuna gave.

Rolling his eyes, the blond continued to pour his drink as he told her, "Yeah, whatever."

"You know, I'm surprised you didn't offer me a drink first," taunted Setsuna, remembering their earlier confrontation.

With a disheveled grunt, Katuski said, "Get over yourself, there was one left, that's the only reason that annoying debauchery happened. There's plenty for you here to get seconds, thirds, and fourths."

"What if I wanted a fifth?"

"There's enough for that as well," the blond replied, getting a scoop of punch with the ladle and holding it out to Setsuna.

Holding out her cup and accepting the offer, Setsuna teased him again, "Such a gentleman, I never knew the destructive demon of Class 1-A could be so kind."

"Fuck off," Katsuki started to walk off with his drink mumbling, "Last time I ever being considerate for you."

Chasing after him, Setsuna chuckled, "Ah don't be like that, I was joking. If anything it's a good thing, you're by far exceeding my expectations of you, and they were already pretty high."

"Doesn't sound like it, you make it sound like I was born from Satan's essence himself. If that's your definition of a compliment, it's a pretty shit one."

"Matter of perspective really, you'll be surprised how people can see you."

"Well fuck those people. Their opinions don't matter to me anyway, I'm going to keep doing me."

"Hmm… I wonder if that attitude will change if it's me giving my opinion."

A bit surprised, the blond exclaimed, "Why would you think that'll make a difference!?"

"I don't know," the greenet shrugged, slowly taking a sip from her cup, "Curiosity. Considering what you asked me today, it's just a thought on if it had sway on that don't-care-for-public-opinion attitude you have toward people."

Suddenly Katsuki started to feel his heartbeat increase and he took notice of how close they were walking together, their shoulders were only centimeters from bumping into each other. As heat built in his face, he dismissed the entire thing, "Ahh you're overthinking it. I'm not wasting time answering stupid shit like that."

"Yeah, I guess it was a bit of a reach anyways," Setsuna added, she was starting to suffer the heated-face syndrome that was affecting Katsuki.

There was a brief silence between the two as they walked around in the party, thankfully no one paid them any mind, and the few who even noticed them together didn't seem to suspect anything. The most they'll assume is Setsuna possibly trying to make nice with the person who won against her, a position many students of Class 1-A can relate to.

Finally, Katsuki brought up, "You mention wanting to start talking to people in my class just so you can come over for cupcakes. Who did you even have in mind?"

"I specifically stated that I can start talking to people here while I come over so I have more to do. There's a difference in the phrasing."

"Can you answer the question I asked?"

Sighing to herself from his dismissive tone, Setsuna answers, "There's Momo, she's pretty smart, Mina seems fun to be around, and maybe I'll spark a conversation with that Izuku since he's interesting."

Giving an arrogant scoff as he tried to hide his slight annoyance, Katsuki said, "You really want to try sparking a conversation with broccoli head over there? Good luck."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Oh it has nothing to do with you, it's him. You might fry his brain for breakfast trying to have a conversation with a girl, and even if you do, prefer to hear his documentary series rants on the lore of All Might."

Giggling to herself so loud that she needed to cover her mouth, Setsuna responded, "That can't be true, now you're being mean."

"It's true though. You see mochi cheeks over there trying to chat him up? She's basically head over heels to the moon for him and I don't even think he noticed it or not. Quite literally the easiest catch missed because he doesn't know how to talk to girls."

"Wow. You know, I had a feeling those two had something going. They seemed close."

"He's just lucky cheeks over there is soft so he can survive exchanging words with her. But if someone like you tries talking to him, it'll be over."

"Are you saying I'm not soft? Not sure if that's a compliment or a personal attack or something."

"Presence-wise you aren't. Cheeks give off the vibe of the girl next door who you can take your time appreciating when you're ready. Like a marshmallow, while it's there and he can feel it, there's never any pressure to make him act on it. You're like a burning rock-"

"Excuse me?"

"-to him. Let me finish damn it. Anyway, you getting close to him is already gonna make him sweat. By the time you start putting any pressure on him, he'll be broken from overheating."

"Quite an interesting way to flatter a girl."

"I wasn't, it was just an analogy. You just… seem like a girl with a more aggressive presence."

"Well then, what of you? How does someone with my presence affect you?"

Katuski cockily grinned at her, replying, "Don't get ahead of yourself. I'm used to dealing with your type. Whatever you do will be nothing new to me."

"Then our little meeting will be an interesting one," the greenet said, returning his smirk with her own toothy smile as she walked away. Giving a departing wave she told him, "See you then."

While Katsuki felt like he didn't care, he found himself staring longing in the direction she went off in until he couldn't see her anymore before going on his way. On his way, he saw Jirou who gave a bashful thumbs-up. He walked on by without giving a reaction, leaving himself to his thoughts.

'It's not like she did anything special, we didn't even talk about anything important. Oh well, at least we're clear on this being a date. Now to- SHIT I DON'T HAVE HER NUMBER!'
