Chapter 5

Getting Those Digits

After the exciting day of the Joint Training ended, a fresh new day has arrived for the students. Compared to the madness of yesterday, the school day was quite tamed today. It was during the after-school hours did things start to get heretic, at least in the minds of a few Class A students.

Surprisingly, one of their star students was having a bit of a dilemma and was trying to solve it with a classmate of his.

"How could you forget to get her number!?" Jirou shouted at the blond once they went back to the dorms. She couldn't believe what Katsuki did! The violet-haired girl was so mad at him that she dragged her classmate to her room immediately after the class finished just to scold him, "That's like the first thing you do right after arranging a date!"

While confronted with reasonable criticism, Katsuki seemed more focused on another issue, "How the fuck did you find out? Wait, were you spying on me again!?"

"Come on, it wasn't that hard to overhear you. You were raving about it all night," Jirou claimed, dismissing his accusation.

"In my room!"

"Let's... not waste time on schematics," stammered Jirou, twirling one of her earlobes. The guilt rattled her body and her facial expression didn't do much better to hide it. She quickly changed the subject, "You need to fix this before your date happens!"

"Don't worry about that, we're not in a rush against time at the moment."

"Why? From how spontaneous this was, I assume you two already planned for it to happen this week right?"

"..." Katsuki's eyes were bug-eyed when he heard that question.

Jirou blankly stared at the blond for his silence, asking again, "You guys, agreed to a time…. Right?"

The explosive teen mumbled, "It was a work in progress."

"This has just been a compilation of failures for you these last two days."

"OI, SHUT THE FUCK UP AND GIVE ME A BREAK!" snapped Katsuki, not needing a reminder of how all this is happening because he lost a bet, "I don't do this often and she left by the time I realized my mistake. None of this matters anyway. In fact, none of this is your business anyway, so why the hell are you getting so invested in my life!?"

Shifting her attitude, Jirou played with her hair to avoid answering the question at first.

"Well!?" yelled Katsuki, still waiting for his answer. If she was going to be pushing him here and there, then she should at least give an explanation. As far as the blond knew, the punk rocker wasn't exactly someone who went around helping others, especially concerning dating.

Finally looking at Katsuki in his red eyes, Jirou answered, "Because I want to see how you'll grow from this, you could call it morbid curiosity."

"I'm not your lab rat?"

"Let me reiterate what I meant. I didn't think much of you outside of respecting your outstanding strength before yesterday. But after our match, seeing how you… you changed… I don't know, it made me respect you more as a person. At least enough where I don't want to see you fail horribly at dating."

"Nothing else?" Katsuki asked, raising an eye.

Rolling her eyes, Jirou responded, "Relax already, there's no hidden motivation!"

"Then what's this?" the blond questioned, holding up a very spicy teen romance novel.

With her face heating up to temperatures that'll melt the artics, Jirou quickly jumped out to snatch the book out of Katuski's hand. Running to her bed to put it out of view, she yelled at him, "It's rude to go through someone else's stuff."

"It was on your desk."

"S-still applies! This is nothing to me b-by the way, just something dumb and stupid and dumb I picked up because I was bored!"

"I knew it, this is you seeing some weird fantasy through like a movie! Let me guess, you're a Neon Genasis Twilight fan even though it hasn't been a thing for literal decades?"

"First off, the Twilight books were decently cool in the beginning, it was the rabid movie fan-girls that soiled the series! And no, I'm not a fan!" exclaimed Jirou. After neatly hiding away her guilty pleasure, she allowed herself to breathe, steadying herself before continuing the conversation, "Third, I meant every word I said. Even if it does bring some joy for personal reasons, it's completely secondary to what I said was my goal."

"Doubt."

"Screw you. You're going to need some help anyways seeing how much of a mess you are."

"I'm not a mess! Just forgot to do a bunch of things!"

"And something tells me that's not going to be the last time. So how about you suck it up and let me help."

"I'd rather die."

"Then do you have any plans to get her number?"

"...Fine, you can help. I've Kirishima over here to help."

"Kirishima? So he knows now as well?"

"Yeah, I trusted he'll be able to help."

"I guess. But whenever I think of Kirishima and reliability, I imagine during a fight or as a supportive friend. Will he be here for moral support?"

"... Just wait for him!"

"Fine."

Thankfully they didn't have to wait long before Kirishima arrived at Jirou's door. Entering him he greeted his friend and other classmates with his usual lighthearted smile.

"Hey, sorry I was late! I know it was a little bit unmanly but I had a bit of a run-in," explained Kirishima. He then turned to Katsuki and pulled out a small slip of paper and handed it to him, "Oh, and here's her number bro."

"Whose number!?" both Katsuki and Jirou questioned, not wanting to believe it was what they were thinking.

The red-headed bro looked at both of them confused, answering, "Setsuna's of course, isn't that what we wanted?"

"Yes but how!?" Jirou asked, still not believing this.

"I walked into her on the way over here and just asked her. Oh, don't worry! I cleared it up, she knows it's for you since you two forgot to swap numbers. She seems pretty happy about it."

Katsuki wanted to say something but decided against it, putting in the numbers to his phones.

Looking happy for his bro-work, Kirishima then asked, "So what do we do now?"

The blond was truly glad they managed to skip an overly elaborate plan. Now he doesn't need someone else yapping in his ear for the rest of the day. So, Katsuki told them, "You all can leave so I can have some peace!"

"This is my room!" Jirou shouted at him.

Katsuki looked around, noticing the dark punk design of the room. Remembering how he was the one dragged here from the start.

"Uh- Well I got the number so you don't need to bother me anymore!" the blond yelled as he walked out the room.

When he slammed the door, Jirou sighed to herself, "He'll be back."

"You think so?" Kirishima asked.

"With his track record… yes."

Walking down the halls to his room, Katsuki's eyes were glued to his phone as one question circled in his mind.

'Now how the hell do I text her!?'
