Scary Movies & Creeps With Red Eyes

"Don't look now but that weirdo is staring right over here at us..again." Jessica Stanley mumbled under her breath. Evie glanced up from her cell phone just in time to catch the guy looking down and she rolled her eyes. "Ya know, someone needs to tell him staring is rude and the particular way he stares is creepy as all hell."

"He watches us like we're food." Angela spoke up after a second or two and Jessica nodded. "I thought I was going to have to pull Mike off him earlier, I'm not sure what went down or anything but Mike claims that he sniffed my hair. Or he was trying to. We went straight to that security guard outside of Aeropostale but apparently, the jerk's taken it upon himself to sneak back in. Ew."

"Something about him reminds me of Edward, only ten times the creepy factor. Like, Edward's harmless creepy but this guy is downright scary. Maybe it's the red contacts, I don't know." Evie shrugged as she shoveled in another bite of frozen yogurt and nearly shot out of her chair when the guy who was their current topic of conversation spoke up from beside her with a laugh. "If you want to know something about me,love.. All you have to do is ask."

"Shoo." Evie waved her hands at him. "Don't make me get out the pepper spray, pal."

"Did anyone say you could sit here? We're kind of saving the seat for my boyfriend.. You know, the jock you saw in the Nike store earlier? Yeah, that one. And he probably has at least three of his friends with him." Jessica's voice faltered as she said it, despite trying to put up a brave front.

"If you don't get lost by the count of 3 I'm going to go and find mall security." Angela gave the strange male her best firm look of warning as she tried to actively keep herself from showing any kind of fear.

The guy didn't budge, he just kept sitting there.

"Uh, hello? We told you we don't feel comfortable with you sitting here, idiot." Evie snapped her fingers and tried shooing the guy a second time.

A quiet growl had the guy tensing as he gave a creepy and low chuckle, turning to find the source of the sound. His eyes locked on a shapeshifter who stood at least 6'7 and from the looks of it, this shapeshifter wasn't thrilled with his presence at all.

Jessica and Angela shared a smirk over Evie's shoulder and Angela mouthed, "So that's Jacob,hm?"

"Mhm. And she claims they're 'just friends'. She keeps saying she likes him a lot but she can't do something about it because he's still getting over you know who.."

"Wait a minute, hold on.. This guy is the same one Bella was hanging around with so much only to drop him like a hot potato when that creep Cullen came back? Is she crazy? Do you think she actually lost it when Edward left?" Angela asked.

Jessica shrugged and then cleared her throat as she got Evie's attention and explained with a teasing smirk that she and Angela were going to attempt finding the guys before leaving. Jacob wasted zero time in taking the seat right beside Evie and slipping an arm around the back of her chair as he smiled at her. "Sorry I'm running late. Had to take Billy into town to pick up his diabetic supplies."

The guy across the table hadn't budged, He cleared his throat to get their attention. "Interesting." he mused as he gave Jacob a knowing smirk. "Are you aware that you smell exactly like wet dog?"

Evie scoffed at the guy's nerve. "Did he just say that?" she muttered to herself before speaking up, informing the guy, "At least my.. At least Jacob doesn't wander around stalking girls and trying to sniff them, weirdo."

Jacob bit his lip. His heart did the tiniest lazy flutter at her slip of the tongue but he didn't act as if he'd heard it. Somehow he sensed that she'd panic or over-apologize and given that he'd happily resigned himself as belonging only to her and probably well before the time of imprint, he really didn't want her to feel like she had to do that. His gaze settled on the strange guy instead and he tried his best to keep calm as he spoke to the guy sitting across from them, stubbornly and stupidly refusing to just get up and leave.

"In case you haven't noticed, asshole.. I'm here with her. Look, I don't know who you are but you can get lost now." Jacob stated as calmly as possible as he started to stand, practically growling the words as he said them, "I'm being serious. She doesn't want you hanging around."

The strange guy waved his hands and chuckled. "Was about to leave anyway, the stench is almost unbearable." he muttered as he stood and quickly vanished into the crowd. Only the second Jacob couldn't smell the burning decayed smell anymore did he finally relax. And then he turned his attention to Evie and took a few deep breaths.

"Is that the weirdo you were texting about earlier?" Jacob asked as he took a deep breath or two to calm himself down. Sam was right. It was easier said and done to keep your self control intact. But he was beyond willing to work on it as much and as hard as he could for her. He'd never do anything to hurt her, imprinted or not.

"Mhm." Evie answered, trying to wrap her head around Jacob's reaction. Trying to remind herself that he was just a protective person by nature and his knee-jerk reaction probably had little to do with any mutual feelings she wished with every fiber of her being and more to do with Jacob being a protective older friend.

"Thank God you got here when you did." she muttered as she dared to lean against his side just a little, letting out a deep breath or two. "I swear, every single time I turned around, there he was. At least he wasn't as fixated on me as he was Jess.. Poor Jess, she couldn't even breathe without the jerk popping up nearby. It's like he was tracking her, I swear… I think Mike wanted to murder him at one point."

"Did anyone think to get mall security?" Jacob asked in concern as he tilted her chin and made her look at him. Evie nodded and explained as calmly as she could, "Three freaking times. Every single time he got escorted out he managed to sneak right back in. Jess said that the last time security was gotten it was because Mike claims he caught the guy trying to sneak up on her and sniff her. Who even does that?"

Jacob's stomach churned and it took every ounce of self-preservation he possessed not to tell her exactly what she'd been sitting across the table from just now. He waited until Evie was preoccupied with a text to her dad to let her dad know that he'd made it and it wasn't just her, Jessica and Angela alone at the mall any longer and Jacob sent a text of his own to Sam Uley, letting him know what they'd just encountered.

Sam texted back that there was a good possibility that this one had everything to do with the one they'd caught in the forest and one of the first ones they'd encountered, Laurent. Laurent had attempted to go after Bella and if the pack hadn't been patrolling, it wouldn't have gone well for her at all.

Jacob was determined. Nothing like that was going to happen to Evie. He took a deep breath and leaned against her a little, mostly as a measure taken to calm himself down and give his heart the adequate amount of time to climb down from his throat and then he looked down at her and smiled. "It's not a big deal. He's gone now." he reassured Evie to help finish calming her down as well. "Did you guys find whatever you came to get?"

"We might have." Evie held up a garment bag emblazoned with the name and logo of a formal wear shop inside the mall as she gave a soft laugh. "It's red. Wanna see?"

Jacob chuckled and grinned at her. "Yeah, you can show me later. In the meantime, if you're not going to finish that burger, I'll take a bite ba-err, Evie." Jacob muttered as he looked from Evie to the half eaten burger sitting in front of her and back again. Noting the slightest pink tint as it crept into her cheeks and deepened. Or the way she swallowed hard as she stared at him.

Oh yeah, she'd definitely caught on to his slip of the tongue. The question remained.. Would she have been okay with him just saying it or not.. Was it still too early to do so? Jacob wasn't sure, he was still kind of blindly navigating all of this and trying to take his time, do things as close to perfect as he could.

… wait a minute, did he just.. No, he can't have been about to call me babe or baby.. I had to have imagined it.. That's what it is… Evie thought to herself as she held out the half eaten burger wordlessly. "It was bigger than I thought it'd be. I was saving it for you anyway." she answered, giving a soft smile. Jacob smiled back. "You did, huh?" he asked with a quiet laugh. Evie nodded as she took another bite of her half melted frozen yogurt.

"If you see that guy again… Get away as fast as you can. If he tries to get you to yourself, make a huge scene." Jacob said quietly after he'd swallowed down the last bite of the burger she'd saved for him. "He kind of looked dangerous."

"For now, I'm not worried. You're here. He seemed to get a little scared and a lot less cocky when you showed up. Can't say I blame him, if I turned around and saw an actual giant standing behind me, think I'd leave too." Evie mumbled before she stopped to censor herself or even consider how the statement could be taken out of context, the flirtiness of it.

Given the way Bella had been kind of passively showing her ass over the fact that she refused to stop being friends with or talking to Jacob lately, Evie was starting to wonder why exactly she didn't just flirt a little more.

Then she'd remind herself that she was trying to be a good friend to Jacob and keep her own personal feelings out of the mix as much as she possibly could because of it. She didn't want to force herself on the poor guy, especially not after he was still trying to work through all the hell Bella had dragged him through before dropping him to get back with Edward just because he came back.

She'd never understand the reasoning behind that, not in a million years.

Jacob chuckled at her words. It clicked for him that she was essentially telling him she felt safe with him and that made him grin and it made him feel invincible.

Evie stood and held out her hand. "C'mon. Let's go find the others. It should be getting closer to the time the movie is going to start."

"Which movie did you say they were trying to see again?" Jacob asked as he stood, slipping an arm around her and kind of pulling her as close to his side as he could get without the gesture seeming over the top or possessive or anything similar. Evie kind of snuggled against him a little and looked up to answer, "Saw III or See No Evil, whichever isn't sold out. I told them my personal vote is for See No Evil, because that one looked wicked in the preview trailer but Mike's insisting Saw III."

Jacob snickered. "Mike will regret it. I think I wanna see See No Evil too, it looked like it was going to be a bloodbath."

"God, I hope not. I can handle some blood and gore."

"Ah, you'll be fine. I'm here." Jacob laughed quietly, smirking to himself when his thinly veiled attempt at flirting resulted in making Evie blush all over again. She smiled, took a deep breath and nodded in agreement. "Yeah, this is true. I hope you remember that later when I'm squeezing your hand or shrieking in your ear and trying to hide my face." Evie gave a soft laugh.

"Won't bother me at all." Jacob answered with a quiet and husky laugh as he gazed down at her.

Jessica and Angela plus their dates spotted them and they hurried over, Mike was quick to get Jacob off to the side and apologize for the tension that occurred when they both went to the movies with Bella last time and then Mike started to tell him about the guy and ask what had happened when Jacob showed up and the guy was sitting at the table. Jacob answered him and admitted with a laugh, "The guy left so fast you'd think I actually threatened him physically."

"He's been following them all day. Jessica texted earlier, that's when I decided to come. Then Eric kind of hitched a ride with me because he talked to Angela and she told him the guy followed them all into Victoria's Secret and kind of lurked.. Now you're here. If this idiot shows up again, at least they're not here by themselves, huh?" Mike mused.

"Definitely." Jacob admitted.

Thinking to himself as he admitted it that he actually wouldn't mind getting the guy alone outside with no witnesses. Just the rehash of the way the guy had been following the girls and had brazenly taken it upon himself to slip back in after security threw him out more than once had Jacob starting to get angry all over again. But he took a deep breath and wandered over to where Jessica and Angela stood talking to Evie and he wrapped his arms around her from behind.

This prompted Jessica and Angela to share a look and then give Evie a playful smile as Evie waved them both off and muttered that they needed to get serious about something. Jacob had kind of overheard small bits of the whispered conversation before walking over so he was now figuring out that Evie was trying to convince herself that Jacob wasn't flirting, that she and her two friends were reading way too much into things. Then she'd gone on to tell them both that she did feel like her crush on him was back but that she wasn't sure whether it was a good idea to act on it at all because her sister had pretty much put him through hell for nearly two years and he needed time.

Hearing it all just sort of really served to seal things and confirm them for Jacob. With or without imprinting her, he'd definitely have chosen Evie over Bella if she'd moved back when Bella did two years before.

And it also convinced him that he could definitely step up all the subtle little flirting he'd been doing lately. That he needed to so she realized that she was wrong and he was definitely trying to drop hints that he felt the same way about her.

He chuckled against her ear quietly. "So, which movie is it, hm?"

"Jess and Angela are saying See No Evil. Saw III sold out in thirty minutes. I knew if we wanted to see that one we should've gotten our tickets the second we got here."

"But you also really had to pee and you couldn't just stand in the line that long at the time either." Jacob teased quietly, making her stick her tongue out.

Evie huffed and pouted. "I can't help it, I have the world's tiniest bladder."

Jacob fluffed her hair, prompting her to give him a playful dirty look as she folded her arms. "Hey! That took patience, ya know."

"It did, huh?" Jacob teased gently as they fell into line for the movie they were all going to see. At one point, Mike and Eric nudged him. "Evie invited you to the dance, right man?"

Jacob smiled and nodded. "She did."

"Awesome. Now we can have even teams in paintball after."

Jacob chuckled and nodded.

Never in a thousand years or his wildest dreams did he ever consider that he'd be having a non-annoying conversation with Mike Newton, not after having met him when Bella invited them both to a movie.

"So we're playing against them, hm?"
"At first, then maybe a couples match." Eric answered as he chuckled. "Mike said you met the creeper."

"If he hadn't left when he had, the creeper's face would've met my fist."

Mike nodded in agreement. "That's what I told Jess. I told her if the guy popped up again, to hell with her no fights rule."

The line moved forward and they got their tickets, the six of them drifting into the theater and filling up the last row, the one before it and the one before that one. Jacob and Evie got the back row, he flopped down in the first seat he saw free in it.

The opening credits rolled and Evie slurped the drink they were sharing noisily as she leaned in to whisper, "I'm calling it. The girl on her cell phone is not the last girl standing. And that cell phone is going to get her killed at some point."

Jacob chuckled and whispered back, "My bets are on the brunette being the final girl."

As the killing started and got progressively gorier and gorier, Evie's head settled against his shoulder and she squeaked quietly, grumbling about all the blood as Jacob slipped an arm around the back of her seat so that her head settled on his chest and he glanced down at her in concern and amusement. "Are you gonna be okay?"

Evie was still trying to pull herself together over the fact that he'd taken it upon himself to situate them so that her head was against his chest and his arm was around her. Words weren't coming. A coherent thought refused to form for a few seconds and then she reminded herself gently that Jacob was always the affectionate and protective sort. That friends did stuff like this all the time and as such, there wasn't any reason for her to go reading into it too much or getting her hopes up.

And even if he did feel something, he needed time to recover.

"Yeah. I'm fine, this is fine.. Oh my freaking… Oh god, are the dogs eating that person? Ewww." Evie's eyes fixed on the soft and faded gray shirt Jacob happened to be wearing and when the scene ended, he chuckled and muttered against the top of her head, "Okay, you should be good now. It should be safe to look for a few minutes at least."

"Are you sure? Because the last time you said that, Jacob.." Evie trailed off as she stared up at him for a few lingering seconds. Swallowing hard. The dim lighting from the lights overhead and the screen down in front of the theater caught on butter at the corner of his mouth and Evie wasn't sure why she came to the conclusion it was a good idea, but before she could stop herself, she was raising her hand, dragging her thumb over the spot. Jacob shifted in his seat a little and snickered softly when she licked her thumb.

"You had some ah.. Some butter next to your mouth."

"Did you get it?"

"Yeah." Evie muttered softly, feeling the beginnings of a full body blush creep up through her.

In the darkness, Jacob glanced down at her and smiled to himself. He made absolutely no effort to move because he liked the way her head just kind of settled where it had. The desire to brush his lips against her forehead softly was almost overwhelming at some points, but he managed to keep himself reigned in.

Then he felt her wiggling against him even more and he chuckled. "If this movie is too scary we can go. I don't mind. I can get Mike to tell me what happened."

"No, no. I'm fine. It's fine. This isn't real and you're here. Makes me feel better. Besides, we're having fun, why would I wanna go?" she asked in a whisper against his ear. That whisper sent a shiver racing through him. In a good way.

In the best way.

He had to do something, he had to make some kind of move soon. He had to show her that she wasn't imagining it, that he was feeling the same way she felt.

"Okay, well.. If you change your mind, just tell me. We'll leave, I swear."

"Jacob, I'm fine."

And not even a second later, she was shrieking in his ear, nearly spilling her popcorn and her head settled against his neck again as she held her hand up and a middle finger at the screen and muttered softly, "Oh ew, ick."

"You were right though. That cell phone definitely got her killed." Jacob mused as he glanced down at her to make sure she was okay.

Evie smiled up at him and took the drink from his hand, raising it to her own mouth. Jacob's eyes fixed on the series of movements and zeroed in on her lips. And all he could do was stare.

"What?"

"Nothing. It's nothing." Jacob answered quickly.

"Oh, okay." Evie muttered, raising the cup again to take another sip. When she finished, Jacob grabbed hold of her wrist and led the cup straight to his own mouth. "You were thirsty, hm?"

"I was." Evie laughed softly.

"Me too." Jacob answered before the two got engrossed in the movie all over again, Evie continuing to cuddle herself against him.

Note: I'm choosing to kind of do my own version of that battle with the newborn army / weekend on the mountain. This kind of is leading up to that somewhere down the road. I'm going to write it more from Evie/Jacob's perspective than I will bother writing it from Bella/Edwards because obviously, we know their side of the story. And I can't be the only one who wondered just how differently that weekend would have gone if Jacob hadn't been entirely focused on Bella as he was... Anyway, that's why the whole weirdness with the vampire was in here. The reason the girls reacted the way they did was a combination of fear and trying not to show said fear, sorry if it seems unrealistic.

Also, I'm blown away right now, thank you so much to everyone who seems to like reading this? I literally didn't think anyone would want to read my take on a sister/imprint fic bc there are a thousand better written ones out there already, you have all made my day. Huge thanks to the person who took the time to leave two reviews, I really wanted to cry happy tears over that because I didn't expect much of anything when I posted this and it meant a lot to me to get any sort of feedback! Thank you!
