"Well then, it looks like everything's going alright on MiniBug's end!" Bunnyx let out to herself from within her Burrow, smiling as she peered into one of her countless portals. Peering through the Burrow had been a pastime of sorts for the older Kubdel since she had gotten her Miraculous to keep, even more since her encounter with the younger Ladybug and Cat Noir. She enjoyed watching countless events in this manner, even those that didn't personally involve her.
Currently, she was watching the entirety of the Miracle Queen incident go down, gazing into a specific portal as Chloe, or Miracle Queen, had her hypnotized victims grab their respective Miraculouses, smugly declaring them as part of her Miraculous Guard, with the exception of Nino and Kagami. Bunnyx couldn't help but let out a smile at that, this younger version of Chloe was just as bratty as she remembered.
She let out a long sigh as she transformed back into her civilian attire, Fluff flying out of her Miraculous with an exhausted smile on her face. The Kwami eyed her owner playfully, giving her a soft nudge on the shoulder. "Phew, it's about time I've gotten the chance to rest! You've been transformed in this burrow for hours!"
Alix smiled at her Kwami's touch, running one hand through her red hair, patting the head of her kwami with the other. "Oh hush, you. You know you love hopping and peeking through time almost as much as I do."
"I'll neither confirm nor deny that," Fluff replied with a smirk, turning her gaze back to the portal, just as Dragonbug and Cat Noir arrived on the scene, with Dragonbug effectively shutting her and Cat Noir in a water dome with the other Miraculous users, out of Miracle Queen's reach. As time intended, Hawk Moth tried to divide Cat Noir and Dragonbug before the battle even began, only to harden their resolve to win. "Still, the two of them were pretty incredible even back then, huh?"
"Of course they were!" Alix agreed, as the two of them swiftly took the Miraculous from that Couffaine boy, Luka, allowing Cat Noir to unify Plagg and Sass, becoming Snake Noir. "I may not have been there to see it myself, but taking on four Miraculous users at the same time, and coming out on top? That's something only Cat Noir could do!"
"Oh, really?" Fluff's voice took on a teasing tone, as the Kwami looked at Alix out of the side of her eye. All the while, Snake Noir had activated his Second Chance, in an attempt to keep Dragonbug safe from their other three adversaries. "Only Cat Noir? What about Ladybug?"
"What about Ladybug?" Alix shot back, although her snarky tone betrayed her good-hearted nature, as Dragonbug found her powers neutralized by King Monkey's Uproar ability. "Personally, I think that she gets way too much of the glory. Give us sidekicks a chance, y' know?"
"I'll be sure to tell Ladybug that when we see her again, then," Fluff replied, giggling. "Maybe she could find me a new owner, one that isn't so hung up on the power of my Burrow."
"What's that? I'm surprised you're able to stand the thought of even getting an owner that's less awesome than me, considering just how often you sleep on my head at night!" Alix taunted, sharing a look with Fluff before both Kwami and owner burst into giggles. Eventually, Alix's laughter died down, leaving her Kwami along in her giggles.
"Oh, Fluff, what would I do without you-" Alix began to say before she caught something in the portal out of the corner of her eye. She'd watched this battle at least three times before, as she did for most important events in the timeline, so she had a pretty good idea of what was supposed to go down. Whatever the redhead spotted, however, was gone the second she peered into the portal once more, the vision having moved onto Master Fu relinquishing his duties as the Guardian.
"Alix?" Fluff questioned, the Kwami's mode sobering as she realized that her owner now wore a serious look on her face. "What is it?"
"I don't know for sure, Fluff, but I think something's gone wrong..." Alix let out as she swiped left on the portal, rewinding the vision to just after Ladybug had deevilized Miracle Queen's Akuma. True to how things occurred, Hawk Moth another yet another Akuma towards the now de-evilized Queen Bee, only for Ladybug to catch it without breaking a sweat.
Becoming desperate, Queen Bee insisted that the Miracle Box was hers, leading her to open it up and take out as many Miraculouses as she could, equipping them all as she ranted about how she would be the greatest Miraculous user of all time. However, this time around, there were a few more Miraculouses than there used to be, about five of them standing to both Alix and Fluff.
The Kwami of time let out a gasp as she saw this, as Alix narrowed her eyes, watching as things proceeded as normal. Master Fu relinquished his duties once more, causing the Miracle Box to transform and take on a design that suited its new owner, one that Alix had certainly gotten used to seeing in the future.
The new Miracle Box continued to glow in the air, however, causing Alix's worries to bolster. Both disappointed with the results of his plans and concerned for the health of his partner, Hawk Moth took Mayura and left on his sentimonster, likely heading back towards the Agreste mansion. This time, however, Cat Noir didn't pursue them, staying to look upwards at the still glowing Miracle Box along with Ladybug.
Alix could only watch as all the surrounding Miraculouses were sucked up into the box, with the exception of the Turtle, Ladybug, and Black Cat Miraculouses. With a bright flash and a loud ringing noise, the Miracle Box then ejected several projectiles, sending them flying across the city before floating back down to the ground, much to Alix's dismay. Ladybug and Cat Noir were obviously shocked at this but went immediately to check on Master Fu, leaving Chloe to stomp in a similar fashion as she did in the original timeline.
"The Miraculouses!" Fluff cried out, the Kwami putting her hands to her head in worry, taking brief solace in the fact that Chloe's hands were off of the Miracle Box. Alix had to force herself to steel her nerves, things had undoubtedly gone wrong somewhere during the day's events, and the fact that Fluff was still by her side meant that she still had a chance to fix whatever had caused this mess.
"I know, but what went wrong?" Alix let out, swiping against the portal once more, stopping once she saw Master Fu fighting against Hawk Moth and Mayura, just after Ladybug had taken the Dragon Miraculous for Kagami. She made sure to keep an eye on the Miracle Box only, however, determined to figure out what went wrong. After simply watching the Guardian get beat up by Hawk Moth, Alix was sure that she wouldn't be able to find anything at this moment in time when, suddenly, she noticed something weird.
It was only for a moment, but it happened while Master Fu had thrown himself at Hawk Moth, ramming into him with his Shelter. Hawk Moth was sent flying into the merry-go-round where Master Fu had been staying, and that was when it happened. For a brief second, the Miracle Box flickered out of existence, only to appear again as if nothing had happened.
"It just vanished into thin air?" Fluff asked aloud, as her owner shook her head.
"No, there's gotta be more to it than that!" Alix said, getting a determined look in her eyes as she stared into the portal, rewinding it slightly, to a point just before the Miracle Box disappeared. Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a carrot and handed it over to her Kwami. "Fluff, get ready!"
"But Alix!" Her Kwami protested although a side-eyed look from Alix made her quickly munch on the carrot. "Bunnyx isn't supposed to show up during this time!"
"That doesn't matter right now, Fluff," Alix frowned to herself as she readied her Miraculous. "You know as well as I do that there's a reason we keep watch on this time period. If anything were to shake things up, there's no telling what could happen!"
Seeing her owner's point, Fluff gave a determined nod, letting Alix know that she was ready. Her frown shifting to a more determined smirk, Alix readied her Miraculous, calling out her transformation phrase. "Fluff, Clockwise!"
A wave of magic entry washed over Alix's body, leaving Bunnyx standing in her place once more. Not wasting any time, she quickly moved towards the portal, only to be surprised as it became solid as soon as her hands touched it. Stunned, Bunnyx took a step back and tried again, only for the same result to occur.
"This time period's already set in motion?" The Rabbit Holder said to herself incredulously. "But that isn't how it happened at all!"
Taking a deep breath, Bunnyx attempted to calm herself once again. If the timeline was determined to flow in such a way, then there wasn't much that she could do about it. But still, the event of Hawk Moth akumatizing Miracle Queen itself was an important event in the timeline, but the time period itself was a hectic one, one that Bunnyx admittedly should've kept a closer eye on. Marinette's little love hexagon would be reaching a fever peak during these times, more Miraculouses would've been handed out which would mean more secrets, Lila would've made a return in grand fashion, Ladybug would be taking on the responsibilities of a Guardian alongside Cat Noir, and above all...
Bunnyx shook her head, taking her mind off of that and instead focused on finding another portal, one that would hopefully show her what would be happening in the near future. Disappointment seeped into her eyes, however, as she realized that the only future she was being shown was the one that had already come to pass. It seemed that this would be more difficult than she had thought. She'd have to keep her eye on this period as things went forward, however. Perhaps some physical intervention would be needed.
She just hoped those new Miraculouses wouldn't cause too much trouble in the long run...
To say that Marinette was feeling upset after watching Master Fu board his train and leave was an understatement. The bluenette had made sure to see him off with a smile and some freshly baked macarons, she felt that her former master deserved at least that much. She couldn't stop the tears that fell from her cheek afterward, however, nor could she stop herself from running at a breakneck pace out of the station.
The world around her was blurry through her streaming tears, but despite all that, she managed to dart into a deserted alley, hesitantly bringing her hands to her earrings as she attempted to calm herself down. She could feel the tips of her fingers trembling as they made contact with the tips of her ears, causing tears to build up in her eyes once again. Marinette didn't let them fall this time, bringing her hands to her eyes to wipe them away. She had one last thing to do, after all. "Tikki, Spots On!"
Donning her heroine outfit for the third time that day, Ladybug quickly let her yo-yo fly, allowing it to pull her up to the rooftops. The sensation of flying through the air was enough to fill her body with adrenaline, a sensation that thankfully seemed to nullify or at least neutralize the storm of emotions currently swirling inside her. Tikki had told her before that she would have to be careful with her negative emotions, but the bluenette couldn't help it as they resurfaced to the front of her head.
Her guilt at how she had handled things before with Chloe and her Miraculous, at how she had gone to Master Fu in costume, and how her actions had resulted in Master Fu being forced to pass the title of Guardian to her. Her anger at Hawk Moth and Mayura for taking advantage of her, and even at Chloe for siding with them. But most of all, her concern and worry over the fact that Hawk Moth now knew the identities of all of her friends, and her growing fear now that she had lost almost all of the Miraculouses.
Swing onto rooftop after rooftop, the adrenaline slowly began to dull Ladybug's emotions, the sensation making it easier for her to push them back into the depths of her heart. She wasn't about to give Hawk Moth the slightest chance to grab her Miraculous, especially not after today. Swinging over the rooftops of Paris, Ladybug soon made her way to the top of the Eiffel Tower, a quick fling of her yo-yo being enough to send her flying through the air and safely land on the top.
"I told Cat Noir to meet me here as soon as he could, where is he?" Ladybug couldn't help thinking, a quick glance around the tower telling that her partner was nowhere to be found. She couldn't help but let a flash of irritation fly across her face, although Ladybug chided herself for it a moment later. Waiting for Cat Noir wouldn't kill her, and she could definitely use some time to herself.
Cat Noir leaped across the rooftops of Paris, using his staff to boost him along the way, noticing that the sun was beginning to set. After Ladybug had told him to meet up with her as soon as he could, he had gone back to his house to detransform and let Plagg refuel. While he was letting his Kwami refuel, he had spotted his father and Nathalie reenter the building, albeit with Nathalie leaning on his father's shoulder, looking as if she was on death's door.
Adrien had been shaken, to say the least, to see Nathalie in such a condition, and couldn't help but want to stay around the house to make sure the woman who had cared for him after her mother's death would be okay. As soon as Plagg was ready, Adrien had transformed again, but had lurked around the house and kept an eye on her condition.
His father seemed to spend most of his time talking to Nathalie about something in his room, but Cat Noir kept himself far enough that he wouldn't be able to hear it. Not that he wanted to anyway, despite what his father had said to him before, he was hoping that Nathalie and his father would be able to reconnect. The presence of Cat Noir wouldn't help with that at all, so it wasn't long before Chat Noir made himself scarce.
Unfortunately, by that time, it was already late in the day, and Cat Noir knew for sure he'd kept Ladybug waiting. Normally he wouldn't worry too much about it, Ladybug never seemed to mind, and he'd joke about how she stood him up for his dinner date. Ladybug had seemed very much shaken over the day's events, however, something that didn't normally happen. But today, as the world seemed to constantly remind the feline hero, it wasn't like most days.
Regardless, Cat Noir soon made it to the top of the Eiffel Tower, spotting his lady staring out across the city. Putting a smile on his face, Cat Noir walked over to her. "Heh, sorry to keep you waiting, Bugaboo! Decided to take a bit of a catnap to sleep off today's excitement~"
At that, Cat Noir suddenly noticed Ladybug's rigid posture, the heroine stiffly turning around to face him. She put on a convincing smile, but the marks on her mask gave away the fact that she had crying while she had waited for him. His lady had been crying. He had never regretted making a joke more than he did at that moment.
Almost immediately, Cat Noir pulled Ladybug into a hug, not caring if she wanted it or not. Thankfully, she sank into his embrace, faint sounds of sobbing reaching Cat Noir's ears as she buried her face into his chest. Cat Noir let her stay like that for a while, before speaking up, his voice coming out soft, yet clearer than it had ever been.
"Ladybug, whatever's bothering you, we don't have to talk about it now. You always have so much on your shoulders..." Cat Noir let out, placing his hand on the back of Ladybug's head, pulling her closer. "That's one thing I never thought Master Fu did right, and now you have his responsibilities trusted onto you as well... It's not fair, at least that's what I think. Whatever you need, Ladybug, I'm here for you."
The two heroes stayed like that for a long while, locked in each other's embrace before Ladybug slowly pulled away, wiping her eyes before smiling at her partner. "T-Thank you so much, kitty..." She let out, her breath becoming less shaky as she composed herself. "We've got work to do, so let's get to it, yeah?"
"There's the Ladybug I know and love~" Cat Noir let out with a smirk, glad that his partner seemed to be doing better. "First things first, the lost Miraculouses. I assume you've checked the box, just to be sure?"
Ladybug nodded, returning his smirk with a smile of her own. "Yeah, there's nothing left in that box, except an inscription on the inside, listing the Miraculouses listed to the box. But..." She trailed off, her expression shifting to a more thoughtful one.
"But?" Cat Noir asked. "Come on, milady, you can't just leave me hanging!"
"Well, Master Fu made sure to teach me about every Miraculous that was in the Miracle Box, but the inscription lists a couple more Miraculouses that I've never heard of..." Ladybug replied.
"Maybe it's an upgrade for the new box?" Cat Noir sat, shrugging. "Who knows, maybe these new Miraculouses are out there in the city as well, and could help us against Hawk Moth!"
"Maybe you're right," Ladybug agreed, a more cheerful look beginning to appear on her face. "One thing we do know, though, the Miraculouses are out there in the city, and we can't allow them to fall into the wrong hands!"
"Well, lead the way, Milady Guardian!" Cat Noir said, smirking at his lady. Ladybug, however, fell silent, causing Cat Noir to get worried. Had he slipped up? Was that the wrong thing to say? He was about to open his mouth to apologize, but Ladybug beat him it.
"About that Guardian stuff..." The red heroine said, obviously uneasy thinking about what she was about to say. "I talked over with Tikki, and she told me and there have been joint Guardians in the past."
Cat Noir's eyes widened at that, as Ladybug continued. "I'm not ordering, or telling you to do anything, but... Cat Noir, I'd like you to be my joint Guardian-"
"Yes, yes, of course!" Cat Noir let out with a cheer, much to Ladybug's surprise and delight. "No offense, but it kinda, sorta ticked me off how you always got to have fun with the Miracle Box. That's all fine and good, though, since the Cattastic Cat Noir is finally getting his time to shine!"
"Glad to hear it!" Ladybug said happily, the heroine smiling as she gave Cat Noir a quick hug, the feline hero's face going beet red from the unexpected contact. She didn't let go this time, instead choosing to look up at her partner. "I'm not sure if you'll be happy to hear this next part, though-"
"H-Hit me with it, Milady~" Cat Noir smiled down at her, savoring the feeling of Ladybug hugging him.
"Well, we need to be more in sync than ever before, since Hawk Moth and Mayura are probably going to come after the Miraculouses themselves as well," Ladybug let out, relinquishing her hold on Cat Noir. "Part of that would be making ourselves joint Guardians, but there's something else. A rule Master Fu put in place to keep us safe, but honestly? From this point on, it'll only create more problems for us."
"W-Wait, you don't mean-" Cat Noir let out, the air momentarily leaving his lungs, the shocked look on his face only intensifying as Ladybug nodded.
"I talked this over with Tikki as well," Ladybug said. "In order for us to be the best Guardians we can be, there can be no more secrets between us. Cat Noir, if you choose to become a Guardian with me, it'll be time to reveal our secret identities to each other."
