Imma be honest I am struggling with my writing right now- but I'm still over 100 chapters ahead so it's not a panic, I've just had a very busy couple of weeks and it's all settling. Anyway please please review, your reviews make me happy.
Anyways, enjoy this chapter. And remember- they don't know Jason can fly so poor poor Leo.
Undeath9087: It probably is honestly, though I mean, you could argue that in cannon Percy goes onto do more destructive stuff- like destroying a glacier. And yeah, certain encounters will go different- and I love Zoe and Leo's 'relationship' for lack of a better term- she's sort of grudgingly fond of him, which is always awesome.
The Official Clarisse: They are and we love them for it- and Leo's a pretty good supportive friend too!
: I love how much faith people have that I'm gonna bring her back, what if I don't huh? There's other characters the seventh member of the seven could be, I could have been planting red herrings by saying about maybe bringing Alabaster back- though that'd be a mega kick in the teeth wouldn't it? Imagine, they have to deal with Alabaster but Percy's still dead, the guy who killed her is alive and she's dead. Never take anything for granted guys.
Leo was happy- that should have been the first sign that something was going to go wrong- he was really, really happy. His friends hadn't freaked at all, Piper and Jason didn't care- they weren't scared of him or anything, which given what he'd done was amazing- sure people in camp didn't blame him or Percy but- well, he knew it did freak people out sometimes, knowing what they were capable of- especially with him- after all Percy was Percy, she had been expected to be ridiculously powerful but he wasn't. So having friends who didn't give a crap- who weren't scared, that was pretty nice honestly.
And the journey was going really well, he'd provided them all food- Calypso had made it late the night before and snuck it into the
storage hatch on Festus's neck along with a note wishing him luck on his quest.
Piper had drifted off and Leo and Jason were relaxing as they flew- talking light-heartedly before it happened.
Leo sensed it when it did- one second everything was fine, and the next he felt a chill run down his spine and he sensed something wrong with Festus- his eyes widened and he cursed loudly, twisting to look at Jason and Piper, his eyes wide, "Something's wrong-" before he could finish his sentence Festus started to buck and twist- and Leo let out a yell as he lashed out, grabbing at Piper's arm as their restraints gave way at the sudden jerking motions- Leo managed to grab onto the edge of one of the seats ridges, and he saw Piper's eyes shooting open as she screamed- and Leo watched helplessly as Jason was tossed off of Festus' back out of Leo's reach.
He mentally cursed himself for forgetting to give his friends wings as he clung desperately to Festus- but the dragon was thrashing violently- and Leo knew that they were screwed- he wouldn't be able to activate the wings while holding Piper and if he let go of her he wouldn't catch her- and gods but Jason was falling to his death already.
This was his fault, something had gone wrong and now they were going to die-and then Jason was soaring upwards through the air towards them, his eyes wide as he did, "I can fly!"
"Oh thank the gods-" Leo gasped the words, and Piper was sobbing with relief.
"Jason-"
"Can you take her?" Leo felt his grip of Festus slipping as Festus twisted again- and then Jason was flying towards them catching
Pipers arm and yanking her away from Leo, holding her tight, "What about you-"
"I've got my wings and I gotta help Festus!" Leo bellowed over the winds, latching on with his free hand too as Festus wings went limp "Land safely! I'll find you!" and then he was trying to haul himself onto Festus' back as he saw Jason nodding, looking incredibly hesitant as he twisted and starting flying down- ignoring Piper's panicked yelling- which Leo couldn't fully understand over the roar of the winds, it didn't work- and he felt his hands slipping despite his best efforts- and his shoulders felt as if they'd been ripped out of their sockets he was being tossed around so much- and then his grip slipped fully and the wind tossed him away from Festus.
Leo cursed so colorfully that Sally would have probably felt the need to wash his mouth out with soap- and she had a very high tolerance for swearing- she had to, with so many demigod kids- they found that after the first few near death experience they stopped caring so much about the fact that some words were supposed to be bad- there was nothing quite so satisfying as being able to say fuck when things went terribly wrong.
He scrambled quickly, managing to activate the golden wings- which sprung out perfectly as always- he extended his arms and they caught the wind and he was buffeted upwards, and he watched as Festus plummeted, his eyes wide as he dove after the giant dragon- and the winds were making it hard for him to control the wings- he could see in the distance that Jason was struggling with just Piper, and Leo gritted his teeth, Jason might be struggling but he was holding Piper close and they should be okay- so Leo flew after Festus- and then he saw his dragon crashing into a line of Porta Potties- and then it exploded, Leo was too close- even his attempt to twist and get away was too slow and he was caught by the force of the explosion, sent head over heels- and several chunks of plastic debris and dirt flew at him, one of the spears of plastic hitting his shoulder, slicing the strap of his wing- and he let out a terrified scream- usually it would be a minor issue- but with the gale force winds that seemed to be practically targeting him meant that with one strap gone the others couldn't hold on and they snapped- until he only had one half of the wing attached- Leo would have screamed again but the wind stole his breath and he flapped his arm uselessly, but one wing didn't do any good.
He was freefalling, he was going to die- and Festus- he let out a choked sob, a wave of grief rushing over him.
He'd felt worst grief, of course he had, but this still felt like he'd had a piece of him ripped out- if Festus was too badly damaged to fix he was pretty sure he'd never forgive himself- the Dragon was a part of him, he'd spent so much time fixing him up, bonding with him that the thought of losing him was a fresh new kind of agony.
He closed his eyes, bracing himself as best as he could- and then- and then something grabbed his arm and Leo forced back a
scream at the wave of hot pain that ripped through him- his shoulders had already been strained by the tossing around and the impact- but this time it was too much- the pain was hot and he almost blacked out- he'd had it happen before, a dislocated shoulder when he'd fallen from Festus for the first time, but that had been in camp with Beckendorf there, catching him when he fell, that was how he'd done it- when Leo looked up this time, when he opened his eyes he saw Jason.
The son of Zeus- or Jupiter, as Leo was starting to figure out, must have seen him falling, or Piper, who had her arms wrapped around him and was clinging tightly to his back, her legs wrapped around him as if he was giving her a piggy back, one of them had seen him anyway, and they'd managed to get to him in time to save his life.
Leo let out a breathless gasp, "Thank Zeus for you." he choked out, forcing himself not to let out any pained noises.
But then he paled, Jason's face was bright red with strain as he tried to keep all of them aloft- the wind seemed to be fighting against him, which meant instead of normal flying or even a slow descent Jason was trying to create an air cushion beneath them but he kept losing his grip , it felt like they were bouncing down a giant staircase, a hundred feet at a time, which didn't do Leo's arm any good
As they wobbled and zigzagged, Leo could make out details of the factory complex below—warehouses, smokestacks, barbed-wire fences, and parking lots lined with snow-covered vehicles. They were still high enough so that hitting the ground would flatten them into roadkill—or skykill—when Jason groaned, "I can't—"
And they dropped like stones.
They hit the roof of the largest warehouse and crashed through into darkness and Leo felt Jason's grip on his arm slipping and he fell the last few feet on his own- hitting the railings of a metal catwalk that ringed the warehouse interior, he lashed out with his good arm, grabbing the railing tightly to catch himself, grunting as it jerked his good shoulder.
He heard the thuds of Jason and Piper hitting the catwalk, felt his grip slipping again, though he managed to grab the edge of the catwalk, dropping maybe two foot, but if he slipped any further then he was dead, he was sure of it, there was nothing more to grab onto.
And then he heard Piper's voice.
"Oh gods! Oh gods where's Leo?"
"Leo?" and Leo could hear Jason scrambling to his feet, "Uh- crap my wrist- Leo! Leo where are you gods are you alive?"
"I'm here!" Leo managed to call, "Can someone please help me because I can't hold on much longer." And then Leo could hear movement and Piper's face was peering down at him and her hand was reaching down and grabbing his forearm.
"Can you grab my hand with your other arm?"
"No." Leo shook his head- no way could he use his left arm right now, it was currently hanging limply at his side, "It's dislocated-"
"Oh gods-"
"I'm here." Leo felt another rush of relief as Jason suddenly appeared next to Piper, reaching out and grabbing the back of Leo's tee, and with Piper's help Leo was hauled up onto the catwalk, and Leo let out a relieved gasp when he felt the solid metal beneath him, stopping him from falling. After the last few minutes that was very much a relief. And Leo closed his eyes, flopping back onto his back.
"Have I ever told you guys that I love you both?"
"Not nearly enough." Piper let out a breathless laugh as Jason snorted.
"Well there's always a first time for everything. Are you okay?"
"Dislocated shoulder." Leo informed them both, "Like I told Piper, other than that- a bit battered but I've had worse." he took a deep breath and pushed himself so that he was sat up, his gaze focusing on Piper and Jason.
They both looked pretty battered too, Jason's wrist looked like it had been bashed- though it didn't quite look broken, even if it was starting to swell up a bit- Leo wasn't an expert but he did know enough that he should be able to handle anything minor.
And Piper had the start of an impressive bruise on the left side of her face and she had a hand pressed to her side- and she looked very uncomfortable. "What about you guys?"
"Just bruised I think." Jason held up his wrist, "It hurts but I can still move my fingers and everything." he flexed his fingers and rotated his wrist- though Leo noticed the grimace on the other teens face when he did that.
Even if it was bruised it was definitely still going to hurt. Jason would need to be careful with it.
"My side hurts, I hit it when I landed but-"
"Let me see." Leo shifted, "I'm not an expert but I have helped injured people before and Will basically forced the whole family to do a makeshift first aid course."
"I-" Piper hesitated, her face flushing but she shifted, pulling her camp tee up to show her side- and Leo could see the redness where she'd hit the catwalk, already starting to bruise.
"Okay." he took a deep breath, using his right hand to open up one of the pouches on his belt, pulling out a little baggie of ambrosia squares. "Here." he opened it up awkwardly, holding out the bag, "It looks like you might have broken ribs. The ambrosia should help you with that. And you Jason. One square each, this stuff can burn you up if you take too much."
"Right. I think Silena mentioned about that last night." Piper took a square and popped it into her mouth- and Leo laughed at the way her eyes widened at the taste.
"It-"
"Yeah, it always tastes like something you love, to me it tastes like paella- like my mom used to make us- my- my birth mom not my adoptive mom."
"It-" Piper hesitated, "It takes like my dads black bean soup." she admitted, a sad smile on her lips.
Jason reached out and took a piece, popping it into his mouth, a curious look on his face "I-" his brows furrowed as he chewed it and swallowed. "It tastes like brownies- it's familiar-"
"Like everything else." Leo's lips twitched, "But you can't place it huh?"
"Not even a bit." Jason shook his head, and as he did Leo popped a square into his mouth, letting out a relieved noise as the warmth flooded through him, easing the pain somewhat.
"That's better." he grimaced, "Now if only I could use my arm-"
"I-" Jason hesitated, "I think I can pop it back in."
"I need you to be very sure about that." Leo gave Jason a sharp look, "Because you could screw it up more if you do it wrong but this quest is gonna be very difficult if I can't use my arm."
"I-" Jason took a deep breath, "I can do it but- even if I do you're still gonna be in pain for a while-"
"I've had dislocated shoulders I know the deal." Leo took a deep breath as Jason shifted and gripped Leo's shoulder.
"Can I help?" Piper's voice was nervous, and Jason nodded.
"Hold his other shoulder, Leo, brace yourself." Leo did as he was told, leaning against Piper- and then Jason gripped his shoulder and pushed- and Leo screamed.
