"Okay, thanks Serena." Chloe said hanging up the phone. "Serena's coming this way to look for Ash, we should head to Circhester."
"Is it normal for him to leave like this?" Marnie said.
"It would be one thing for him to stay out all night, but without Pikachu, no. Whatever happened last night he wasn't prepared to stay out because of it." Chloe said.
"Do you think he'll be okay?" Marnie asked. "I don't think it would look good if I lost one of Goh's friends already."
"He had Charizard and Kommo-o with him, I don't think there are many things Pokemon or trainer that could stand up to those two. He probably fell asleep, or found a lead and chased it without thinking." Chloe sighed. "Come on Pikachu, we'll meet up with Ash in a bit. I hope." Chloe said, whispering the last part.
Later on, over Circhester
"Make your own legend." Chloe said, thinking to herself. What Shielbert had said, about her not being necessary, was he right?
"What was that?" Marnie asked.
"It was what Melony, the gym leader here told me." Chloe admitted. "Five years, and I still haven't figured it out."
"Could be worse, I'm still stuck in the shadow of my brother." Marnie complained. "His groupies still try to follow me around. Say I'm not strong enough to be on my own."
"If he could see you now, I think he'd think differently." Chloe reassured.
"Yeah, I wonder what he's up too right now." Marnie said.
Meanwhile atop Rose Tower
"Obstagoon use Brick Break!"
"Duraludon use Dragon Claw!"
"Charizard use Thunderpunch!"
"Kommo-o use Claging Scales!"
The four attacks struck Eternatus, as it fired a beam back at the four trainers.
"So remind me again, what exactly are we fighting?" Piers asked.
"Eternatus, the darkest day." Raihan said.
"Ash how's it coming with that backup?" Leon asked.
"I lost my bag while running in Glimwood Tangle so I can't contact Goh, and the sword isn't responding." Ash replied.
"You don't hold onto your phone on your person?" Raihan asked.
"With what pockets?" Ash asked. He had switched into a skirt and loose tee shirt back at the Pokémon center, having not planned on this happening.
"You go girl! Pants are for squares!" Piers agreed.
"Piers we've been over this, it's fine during your shows, but you have to keep your pants on in battle." Raihan said, having had this conversation many times before.
Back in Circhester
"Knowing him, he's probably sulking alone, coming up with a new song." Marnie said as they entered the stadium.
"Look out!" A young man shouted, tackling Chloe to the ground, as a beam shot right where she was.
"What's the big!? Gordie!" Chloe said excitedly.
"Chloe! And Ash?" Gordie said looking at Marnie.
"Marnie, so let me guess, rampaging Dynamax Pokémon." Marnie said.
"Yeah, first time in Galar in years and this is what I get to do." Gordie said. "If you can, we could really use the help."
"That's why we're here." Chloe said, following Gordie in.
Inside the gym were two rampaging Dynamax Pokemon, a Gigalith, and a Frosslass.
"Me and Gordie will take Frosslass, you and Pikachu go and help with Gigalith." Marnie said running into the arena.
"What do you say Pikachu, will you help us?" Chloe asked.
"Pika!" Pikachu said, sparks flying from his cheeks.
As Chloe approached the rampaging Gigalith, she saw an attack heading straight for a trainer!
"Corvinight use Steel Beam!" Chloe shouted.
Corvinight launched its own energy straight at the attack, not only dissipating it, but also hitting the Gigalith.
"Are you alright?" Chloe asked running to the trainer.
"I'm fine, just glad for the backup." Melony said. "Frosslass wasn't doing much against this one."
Chloe went on her phone, without Ash they needed back up.
"Come on, pick up!" Chloe urged, trying to hear from Seb or Goh. She even tried Ash's phone again to no avail.
"Sorry Serena, I know we just sent you to Glimwood Tangle, but I can't get a hold of anyone, and could use the help. Thanks, come to Circhester as soon as you can." Chloe said before hanging up. "Now back to this.0
The damage Corvinight had taken using Steel Beam had caused problems in the battle, as the bird fell to the ground defeated.
"Lapras use Max Gyser!" Melony said. "Chloe no rush, but if you can Dynamax that Pikachu, it'd be great."
"I can't, I don't have a max band, and even if I did, it's not mine." Chloe shouted scrambling for a Pokeball.
"Here, now be calm, but Lapras's time is almost up and we need someone up there." Melony said, handing Chloe her max band.
"But what about you?" Chloe asked.
"I'm a gym leader, I have another just in case. Now give that Gigalith a taste of Chloe Cerise's power." Melony said.
"Right!" Chloe said. She put on the band, adjusted her glasses, and grabbed a Pokeball. "It's time to Dynamax!"
Eevee popped out of her Pokeball growing in size until it was close to the Gigalith's size.
"Lapras use Hydro Pump!"
"Pikachu use Iron Tail! Eevee use GMax Cuddle!"
Eevee jumped onto the Gigalith, it's larger fur encompassing part of the rock type, who seemed to be fighting less and less the more it continued.
"Lapras use Hydro Pump!"
"Pikachu use Thunderbolt! Eevee use Max Quake!"
Meanwhile, on the other side of the gym.
"Grimmsnarl use GMax Snooze!"
"Shuckle use Gyro Ball!"
Marnie had expected Grimmsnarl to be doing the heavy damage, but that little Shuckle sent Froslass flying.
"Shuckle use Gyro Ball again!"
"Grimmsnarl use Max Flare!"
The asleep Frosslass fell to the ground, energy dispersing around it.
"That went well, considering everything." Marnie said as they regrouped.
"You never say that." Gordie groaned. "It always causes something even worse to happen."
"What could be worse than two dynamaxed Pokémon in the gym?" Chloe asked.
"What about a third?" Melony said, seeing purple light beam down from the sky.
The four trainers turned, prepped for a battle, as a Haxorous emerged, growing in size.
"Lapras use Ice Beam!"
"Eevee use Copycat!"
"Grimmsnarl use Play Rough!"
"Shuckle use Iron Defense!"
Grimmsnarl took the attack straight on with no problem, as the other three attacks were fired at it.
"Gordie, I love you, but now is not the time for that game!" Melony scolded. "Now Lapras use Ice Beam!"
"Regice, come out and use Ice Beam!"
"Grimmsnarl use Play Rough!"
"Shuckle use Iron Defense, and take the front!"
Shuckle was easily blasted away, from both previous damage, and the Haxorus's blast.
"Grimmsnarl is a fairy type, dragons don't do anything to them." Marnie sighed.
"Then maybe I can help." Serena said between breaths. "Sylveon use MoonBlast!"
"Lapras use Ice Beam!
"Regice use Ice Beam!"
"Grimmsnarl use Play Rough!"
A crater was found when the dust cleared with the Haxorus at the bottom of it.
"Serena, you made great timing." Chloe commented.
"Rage is a powerful emotion." Serena said.
"Not that I'm arguing that but why?" Marnie asked.
"Found out why Ash has been distant." Serena said pulling out the phone.
"This doesn't seem like Ash…". Chloe said concerned.
"The rest of it checks out as him." Serena said. "He could have just said."
"I'm sure there's a logical explanation for this, just stay calm, and we can talk to him when we see him." Chloe said.
"Now what though, we aren't exactly the main players in this." Marnie pointed out.
"We know they're heading to Rose Tower, we can still help out there." Serena said. "And Ash Can give some answers."
