Chapter One – External Forces – Prologue
Sonic The Hedgehog. Strong, powerful, heroic. The King of Speed, the Hero of Mobius. The symbol of hope to all. A Hedgehog whose tireless effort staved off evil. Despite his best efforts, full scale war had broken out with Eggman and it had gone global. The Human had tricked the Resistance into believing he wasn't as powerful or expansive as they thought, and caught them completely off-guard with a worldwide attack with both the bases and robot army to match. The Resistance were overwhelmed, the people fled, and the Hero of Mobius was now missing.
He sighed, it had been a long and hard fight. It was difficult watching the Hero struggle when you know you have the power to help but can't. Knowing the stakes are too high to even intervene. It grinds you down, in both body and soul. The strong, gentle but yet wise eyes gazed out on the landscape of Mobius, of someone who knew this far to well. Sonic the Hedgehog had been captured. A name, a Hero, that meant so much to so many people. He was more then just a Hedgehog with Super-Speed, he represented the symbol of hope. Without him, the war was lost. The people would just give up.
Even though He knew Sonic was alive, not having the Speedster on the ground, was going to make life extremely difficult. He had to keep up the morale. He couldn't allow the people to quit. There was no way they could win against Eggman with the people behind them. So for six months, He came, He saw, He kicked robot butt. Silent, deadly, professional. He ensured every fight, went the Resistance's favour, never taking any credit. Even though Eggman may have gained ground, he outright failed to permanently take out the Resistance, even with Sonic gone, to the Human's complete and utter frustration. But the Human was not stupid. He knew there was leverage.
Someone was helping. Someone very impressive. Someone matching Sonic one-for-one on power. He smirked to himself.
'The Human's not wrong.' He thought. He could indeed match the famous Hero one-for-one, but Super-Speed was not his thing. He immediately dispatched multiple rows of robots, with nothing more then a mere swipe of his hand, to allow the Resistance to reach the city, before silently disappearing into the shadows. He knew he was needed now more the ever.
But nobody knew about him. Not Eggman, nor the Resistance, not even the Mobian Authorities. So why fight? Why risk everything to take down the Human. The answer was simple. One word. Family. His brother was at the heart of the fight, and He could not just stand by and do nothing. So why hide? Why not fight side by side with him? He couldn't. The Mobian Authorities had made sure of that. He gritted his teeth and clenched his fists, growling at the his utter hatred of them. He hated them far more then Eggman, and with good reason.
He was a good guy. A good heart. Pure. He was just born with the wrong Chaos Powers. It wasn't his fault. Many people are born with Chaos powers on Mobius. Super-Speed, Super-Strength, and Psychokinesis, namely, Sonic, Knuckles and Silver the Hedgehog respectively. There were also other powers out there too. All of those powers were fine. You had to register them with the Mobian Authorities, so they could keep track of who had what, but that was it, no further issues. It was widely known that Shadow had had some issues with the Mobian Authorities, more of trust rather than legality, but once he'd proved himself, all was well.
He was different.
Of all the Chaos Powers to manifest themselves on Mobius, only one was truly feared. In fact, the fear was so deep set, and that fifty years ago, the power was outright banned. A ban that the Mobian Authorities still upheld to this day.
Chaos Sorcery.
Also known as Magic, Chaos Sorcery is the most diverse and expansive of all the Chaos powers. With Magic, you could literary do absolutely anything with the correct knowledge. This in itself was not the issue, but an extremely dangerous incident, fifty years ago, proved that a major flaw in the power and thus prompted the ban.
Corruption.
The Sorcerer's name was Xander, a dark, grey Wolf, who, like him, was born with the power. Tall and slender, with pale blue eyes, a dark red jacket, black belt, white gloves, with bronze bracelets and light brown shoes. To look a him, he just looked like any other Sapient. Back then, Chaos Sorcery was commonplace, and was regularly used in the running of society. This was managed by the Council of Magic, who worked carefully with the Mobian Authorities to maintain the peace. All Sorcerers were required to do their part. But to Xander, this wasn't enough. He wanted more. A lot more. He wanted to be the Grand Master, the Head of the Council of Magic. The most powerful Sorcerer on Mobius. But that title is earned with years of experience and trails. It is not simply taken.
But Xander, now blinded by impatience and the potential power being Grand Master could bring, tried to take it for himself. There was resistance from the Council of Magic, but fuelled by greed, Xander swept them to one side, destroying them all. As the corruption took permanent hold, he eyes glowing scarlet, he wanted more and more, to absorb as much power as he could from anywhere. So he went for any and all Chaos Powers, not caring who lived and who died. Thousands were slaughtered as he recruited as many Sorcerers he could find, spreading the corruption among them. So, it became an all-out fight between Chaos Sorcery and the rest of Mobius.
The Mobian Authorities had a major dilemma. They had to save as many people as they could. But they couldn't to this without sacrifice. So the difficult decision was taken to Purge the power. To kill all Sorcerers, regardless of whether they had corrupted or not. They didn't have a choice. Male, female, child, baby, it didn't matter. It you had Magic, whether born or developed, or had any association with it, you were slaughtered, and your family too.
Upon seeing his fellow brethren being killed, forced Xander to take on the Mobian Authorities directly. But they had very cleverly sent out around the world Anti-Sorcery propaganda, which had successfully reached the ordinary powerless Sapients of Mobius, (which far outnumbered those with any Chaos Powers including Chaos Sorcery but by a million to one), and had rallied the people on side. Against the strength of the Mobian Authorities and the power of the people, no amount of Magic, no matter how powerful, could defeat such odds.
Soon Xander was defeated and killed. But the Purge continued. Hundreds died, many for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and soon Chaos Sorcery was wiped from existence on Mobius. But with the fear of corruption and the ban still remaining, the Purge was still in living memory for many of Mobius' residences. The Mobian Authorities took such drastic measures against Chaos Sorcery because it didn't want to fight another global war with a powerful enemy. And yet, here He was, watching another global war commencing against Eggman and the Mobian Authorities were not lifting a finger to help. The Resistance were completely on their own.
He growled. Now who was accusing who of corruption. Eggman almost certainly had his hand in the Mobian Authorities, briberies, threats, who knows, to keep them out of the fight. With the Mobian Authorities not involved, then there was only one power left on Mobius strong enough to defeat Eggman. The power of the people. But with the betrayal of the Chaos Sorcerers and the Purge still raw, how could someone with Magic possibly rally the people. He'd be killed instantly.
He sighed. The only reason why he was alive was because his mother, from who he inherited the Magic. She had successfully hidden from the Purge and had kept a low profile, all her life. Her ability to create illusions to hide, a rare ability even in Chaos Sorcery, gave her the edge, a power He'd inherited from her. He often wondered, did his father know? Of what she could really do, when he met and married her, and had him and his brother. Problem was, he'd never find out. His parents were killed when he was a baby, so he never knew.
When it came to Magic, he was good. Really good. But he'd never been taught, it was all intuitive, instinctive, and as the older brother, he alone had the power. His mother ability to hide via illusions had been vital for her survival during the Purge, was now still proving vital in hiding Mobius' last Sorcerer from the Mobian Authorities. He'd looked across Mobius for others like him. Nothing. His mother was the last, and now him.
But he was desperate. As the older brother. He didn't want the fact that he had Chaos Sorcery to get his little brother killed. He was innocent. He had no Magic. But both Sorcerer and their family were killed during the Purge, why should it be any different now? So thus he hid, giving his brother the freedom to fight Eggman with the Resistance. But if word got out that he had a Sorcerer in the family would certainly get him immediately mistrusted and most likely, killed, regardless of whose side he was on. They just couldn't risk it.
He couldn't risk it. He'd never forgive himself. However, He was willing to risk helping out the Resistance while Sonic was gone, and did some serious Magical detective work to find out that the Blue Blur was actually off-planet. He sneakily dropped that tidbit of information to the Resistance, who immediately mounted a successful rescue. Once back on the ground, the fight continued, the Resistance gaining more and more ground until Sonic, classic Sonic, (observed but never met), and one of the Resistance members successfully destroyed Eggman, prompting the Human's disappearance. It was quite spectacular, and proved that the Hero and the Resistance did not always need the aid of a Sorcerer to win battles. Even against the likes of Infinite and the Phantom Ruby. It was seriously impressive.
He smiled, finally relaxing. A job well done. But their was still work to do. He still had a hunch that with regards to Eggman it wasn't over yet. He could feel it in his Magic. A Sorcerer to watch over the Resistance. A guardian angel maybe. He spat. This was not his fight. It was his brother's. He was there to help when needed. Nothing more.
As a friend, a soldier, a Sorcerer.
His name...Sukko.
