Omake 5: Naerie's new friend
Ambar was in a bit of a pickle.
Not the worrying or annoying kind, but rather… the sad and difficult predicament. The one that tied with her baby girl and her current subject of affection, with the little redhead mirthfully bear-hugging the poor human kid that was trying his best to not pass out due to her strength. The boy's parents were there too, with the father holding a sheepish look that just echoed her embarrassment while the mother did a fine job showing the inner feeling of amusement at the adorable sight. To be fair, the High Prime was partly to blame for telling little Naerie to make more friends than just Shin. It had been a bit of a childish move on her part to urge her daughter to expand her social circle but she knew that for her powers to be easier to tame, she needed as much moral support as possible. Naerie needed friends.
And so she took a day off from her work, bringing her daughter with her and picking a place fairly distant from Prism since she didn't want to overwhelm her baby girl. The place would flock with people and journalists and possible assassins. No, Ambar decided against giving that kind of opportunity a shot and she chose a random location. Or better, she picked a place where she heard Bengala talk about one of his more recent trips for training his Clan.
New Pasadena. It was a lovely city that was created as an 'extension' of old Pasadena, the climate was just pleasant this part of the year and many tourists found it to be one of the best vacation destinations within affordable prices for the mid-class. Ambar had never visited California more than four times during her tenure, something that tied up how her visits generally ended up with her getting at odds with the humidity and the temperature. Fur can sure be a hassle to fix due to both elements, but it wasn't as horrible beyond this problem. Checking on the data she could find of the place at the time, the Bear Prime felt confident that things should be optimal for a visit for the length of a day or two.
Naerie was a bit irked that she wasn't getting to visit Shin, but she was nonetheless ecstatic over visiting a new place without having to do any 'boring chores'. When they arrived, Ambar had to waste a bit of time to convince the local mayor to not alert the media of her arrival. It was, after all, a brief holiday for the High Prime. Despite some opposition to that, the mayor conceded in exchange for some advertisement in the future. Nothing unusual, and, if things were as nice as Bengala had said, she would have done that anyway. With that hassle solved, it was now time for the mother-daughter duo to enjoy a day together.
Nothing unusual, with Ambar picking the local park as the first setting to explore. It was there where friendships were made. Most of the time. Either that or she had been watching too much anime during her break. Still, regardless of that semi-logical conclusion, she swiftly saw her daughter picking up on her childish instinct and swiftly asked to check around on her own. Ambar didn't hesitate to provide her this kind of approval as she remained around to watch over the little Bear Prime's situation.
Things went as smoothly as expected since the first step the girl took towards the bunch of children playing around in a tiny but compact group of tiny humans and primes. The High Prime sighed at the sight as she took a rest by the near bench while picking some photos to send to her baby girl's dad once things were over. Yet, as Ambar studied the scene itself, she was quick to pick up a curious dynamic unfolding within the games which entailed Naerie as one of the primary elements. While the little redhead made most interactions with fellow girls, there was one individual that slowly but steadily gained her attention, her interest and her genuine affection.
Ambar was surprised by this development, especially when it came to the fact of how cuddly both Naerie and this little human boy were to each other. At first she thought it was just her daughter doing it, but the boy just started to mimic that behavior much to the glee visible on Naerie's face. The Wisdom Crest stared at the circumstance in growing awe and amazement, taking more and more photos. This was definitely a bit more than she expected but… it was definitely a good kind of 'more'.
Still, as the day started to draw to an end, a couple of issues started to form when it came to divide these two tight buddies. At first Ambar found it even more entertaining, but as it became clear that the two were really going to put an effort to out-hug the necessity to leave the park and go back to their parents, things really took an awkward but cute shift that she hadn't expected.
"Naerie, I told you that we could visit again. There is no need to do this,"
"N-No. I wanna play more with Frankie," The girl muttered while pouting, staring sternly back at her mother.
"Yeah," The boy muttered back, nodding at his parents… making the situation even more 'dramatic'.
"I'm so sorry he can be quite... stubborn," The boy's father muttered while trying to show how really apologetic he was on the matter.
"It's alright," Ambar replied calmly. "I think we can say without any doubt that both are fierce about it. Still, if they keep up like this, Naerie can never get Shin to meet her new friend."
At the mention of her first friend, realization struck the tiny redhead.
"Oh- Oh right! He is that nice friend that I told you that we can all play together with."
Frankie's blue eyes burned in interest. "Really? How is he? You told me that he was nice, but nothing more."
The two lost themselves in a brief conversation about the new topic, but the tactic seemed to work as both detached from one another.
"Now dearies, I think it's time to leave. We can plan out other encounters where you can play some more but now we have to go," Ambar hummed brilliantly before turning to the boy's parents. "I can provide you with my phone number so we can set up some play dates in the future."
Frankie's mother smiled brightly and beamed while picking up the business card with all the needed info to contact her, mentioning how this really looked to be the cutest bond possible. And as much Ambar didn't add more to it, she couldn't help but wholeheartedly agree. While Naerie was beaming happily while around Shin, right now she was showing a more intense affection for her newest friend.
Maybe it was tied to the fact little Shin was a bit shy and younger than her, which is why Frankie looked a 'better-set' playmate with how eager and affectionate he was back to her. Just as the two exchanged some last words, the High Prime felt the need to let out a quiet 'aww' when the human boy leaned in and planted a soft peck on the tiny redhead's left cheek. Naerie could only blink at the gesture, patting the kissed spot while retreating back to her mother.
The little girl didn't stop rubbing protectively her cheek while smiling in pure happiness after that, with Ambar smiling lightly at the sight as she knew that her baby bear was perhaps developing a stronger friendship out of this than she could have hoped for. Was she worried about this? Not truly. Little Frankie's parents looked fairly calm and approachable, especially how they handled facing someone as the High Prime in person.
Humming at these thoughts, she couldn't help but wonder what would happen due to these changes… maybe things would evolve in funnier shenanigans….
Yes, she had no regret in picking up this choice.
