Ash and Kubfu

"Alright, hold on tightly." Ash said, as he climbed onto Dragonite, with the Kubfu holding onto his head.

Once they were high enough up, Ash lifted the Kubfu off of his shoulders and set him on Dragonite's back.

"Isn't it amazing, I've been on this island for only a few days, but I've experienced so much." Ash said. "If you could only speak, I'm sure there's so much of this place I have yet to even know of."

Kubfu had wanted to battle with the human, to gain his full power, but this orangeish one they were on was different than the one he'd met previously. This one was happy to go for a ride, and the human was happy showing him around. His other self had at least informed him of his name, but everything else was blank.

"Mustard said I'd have to battle with you to restore the island's full armor. Would you like to do some training?" Ash asked.

Kubfu nodded happily in agreement.

"Okay, Dragonite let's go in for a landing." Ash said as he held on tight.

After a bit of preparation, Ash was ready.

"Okay, let's see what you know." Ash said pulling out his phone. "Please work."

'Kubfu, the Wushu Pokémon. Known moves: Close Combat, Focus Punch, Aerial Ace, Thunder Punch.' The roto phone announced.

"Thunder Punch Huh. Well you came to the right trainer. Pikachu and I can probably help you maximize that power, how's that sound?" Ash asked kneeling down.

"Finally, we can begin working together!" Kubfu said.

"Alright then, you sure sound excited." Pikachu how about you start with a Thunderbolt, show him how it's done." Ash said.

Pikachu began storing up energy, then when it was just ready he released it blasting away a rock.

"Just like that, but hold it in your fist." Ash said. He had little experience in training elemental punches, this was new to him.

Kubfu began holding the energy, it was similar to the move he learned from watching the green one.

"Kubfu!" Ash shouted.

Kubfu had gotten lost in its thoughts, the punch now overcharged, firing back at them.

"Okay, let's try just attacking for now." Ash said, coughing up some smoke.

Insert a fancy anime scene transition here, maybe a spirally kind.

"Alright, so Donphan here can take any electric attack you throw at him, so we're going to practice Thunder Punch rapidly on him." Ash said. "So instead of just one hand, charge up both, and then go like this." Ash said repeatedly punching the air.

Kubfu didn't understand what this human was trying to accomplish, but he hadn't seen a reason to start questioning them.

As Kubfu's fists began passing by each other, so did the sparks, creating a ball of electricity that grew and grew until it burst.

"Okay, there goes that idea." Ash sighed, his clothes feeling weird from the static buildup. "Well, let's try something else for now, let's see your Close Combat."

Kubfu approached a boulder, looking back at Ash. He had thought he was prepared to meet this human, but he kept messing up.

Kubfu's punches managed to turn the boulder into dust.

"There we go!" Ash cheered on.

"Thought I'd find you all out here." Serena said, walking up the path with a basket.

"Serena, hi. What are you doing out here?" Ash asked.

"Figured you guys had worked up an appetite, and I brought some lunch." Serena offered.

As the Pokémon were enjoying a lunch break, Serena turned to Ash.

"So, who are you thinking of getting help from, they need to know the power of the glowing tides? Whatever that means." Serena said.

"I actually called the person I think best fits that description last night, they'll be here tonight." Ash said.

"You think Goh'll be ready?" Serena asked.

"I can only hope he found someone." Ash said.

With Goh and Kubfu

"Come on, you don't have to pay for a thing." Goh said over the phone. "Besides you said you wanted to go here anyways."

"What am I doing? Just a relaxing day by the beach." Goh said as he paddled a boat out from shore. "Look I promise it'll be nice spending time together, just come please. Thank you."

"Kub?" Kubfu asked somewhat confused.

"So you might be wondering what we're doing out here. Well, the answer is that." Goh said pointing at a Wailord. "I saw it on the flight in, and I'm going to catch it, with your help! Us Power-Up Punch!"

Kubfu launched into the air, striking the Wailord, doing what appeared to be nothing.

"Hit them with another Power-Up Punch!" Goh called out.

Kubfu struck the Wailord, this time a bit harder.

"Keep doing it!" Goh called out.

Kubfu hit the large Pokemon, again and again until it finally flinched from the pain.

"Alright, now Pokeball go!" Goh called out tossing a ball. "And that's how you protect an island." Goh said.

Back with Ash

"Alright, now watch Swellow." Ash said calmly to the Kubfu. "Swellow use Aerial Ace!"

Swellow dove close to the ground, gliding mere inches above it before momentarily disappearing, the makeshift target sliced, and Swellow was on the other side.

"Give it a shot." Ash said encouragingly.

Kubfu got a running start, speeding up, then hitting the target, and again, and again, and again. Each slice from a different angle, but each going through the center point.

"Well, you definitely don't need my help with this one." Ash admitted.

"Well that's Focus Punch, Close Combat, and Aerial Ace down." Serena said.

"Then why can't you get Thunder Punch?" Ash said thinking.

"Fu!" Kubfu shouted, punching a rock, only small sparks coming out of his fist.

"What about aura? Could that help?" Serena asked.

"I don't want to risk it, or did you forget Chloe ate my one bar." Ash said in an annoyed tone.

Hours later as the sun was just beginning to fall on the horizon; Ash, Goh, and Mustard stood at the gate awaiting their chosen help.

"Honey said their cab is starting to descend." Mustard informed the two boys.

"Goh! You said no strings attached! What's this about me having to help you!" Marnie complained getting out of the cab.

"Hi Marnie." Ash waved.

"Hey Ash. As for you!" Marnie said angrily approaching Goh. "Never lie to me again!" She said slapping him hard before giving him a kiss. "I've missed you."

"I've missed you too." Goh said.

"I hope you aren't expecting that kind of welcome from me." Misty joked, as she pulled her gear out of the cab.

"Misty, it's good to see you." Goh said.

"Ash told me you're alive, he is alive right?" Misty asked.

"I can confirm that." Marnie said.

"Now that you are here, Ash and Goh you must prepare a team to protect you and your Kubfu as you climb the tower. The islands forces will try and stop you. However they will have to fight without your command." Mustard said. "The final trial will begin at dawn. Rest well."

"My husband failed to mention this, but Marnie and Misty. You two will be tasked with helping Goh and Ash respectively up their towers to fully awaken the islands armor." Honey explained. "You are both welcome to stay at the dojo if you need to."

"Did you bring the tents?" Ash asked Misty.

"Why do you think I have this much?" Misty joked.

"Then we're all set, let's find a place to set up camp, I'll get my Pokémon once we're set up."
