An Odd Wake Up Call

Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!

The screech of an alarm clock rang in his ears, along with a familiar voice.

"Fumikage... Fumikage. Tokoyami, get up already! Jeez...Dabi is quicker than you, and he's not even a morning person." Hawks reprimanded as he leaned over Tokoyami.

Toko slowly sat up, yawning as he rubbed his eyes.

"You do realize that every time you and him snivel and whimper like an old married couple, it doesn't help...?!"

Hawks backed up ever so slightly, his hands raised in a passive posture. "Alright, alright. Sheesh, don't get your undies in a bunch, Birdbrain."

"Hypocrite."

Hawks immediately snickered, and Toko did as well, though lightly. As Hawks turned to leave, Toko called his name, gaining his attention again.

"Wait, Hawks?"

"What's up?"

"If you're up here... Don't tell me he's doing breakfast again?"

Hawks flicked his head to the side.

Toko's mind lit up in realization. "I told you not to leave him unattended!"

Sure enough, after Tokoyami leapt from his bed, Hawks bolted downstairs with him.

And they didn't seem the least bit thrilled when they reached the kitchen.

Tokoyami sighed, "He burnt the bacon again."

"Yep!" Hawks agreed, staring at the skillet in Dabi's hand.

Dabi stood there with his eyes half open, a spatula in one hand, and a crappy grin on his face. Toko and Hawks couldn't have been more pissed, but they failed to allow anger cross their expressions.

Dabi, in a sense, meant well after all his wrong doings had been forgiven. He was a misunderstood individual and some people came to realize that. He would seek out how to show emotion if he could, but he never had much luck. Any and all emotion he had as an infant was all for naught, but these two individuals were giving him a home he couldn't forget. They were his family. No past hatred could cloud his reasoning that he cared deeply for them both.

"I swear, I'm gonna teach you how to cook an egg even if it freakin' kills me." The exasperation

in Hawks' voices was beginning to show.

"Shut it."

Toko subtly rolled his eyes at the two, as per usual.

"I'm gonna call Shoji over for breakfast. Hopefully he hasn't eaten yet."

"You do what you gotta do man. I gotta teach this dumbass how to fry an egg. Like...seriously, how old are you man?"

"I said shut it!"

Tokoyami and Shoji always were a good duo, especially when it came to their training antics. Asui was just as good. She played a key supportive role for Toko, and Shoji was practically his best friend, especially since that incident at the summer training camp. That same nightmare had reoccurred every time Toko slept. He harmed his best friend, someone he considered dear to him. Controlling his power was something he needed to do and, well, his mentor is a humorous individual. But, at some point, he believes he will pass his knowledge onto him and he eagerly awaits that day. This was all playing in Toko's mind as he somewhat jovially walked to Shoji's to invite him over for breakfast. Since they were basically neighbors, he didn't have to walk too far.

Toko had arrived at Shoji's doorstep and, for some reason, he felt the need to adjust his collar. He hesitated to ring the doorbell but, eventually he mustered up the courage. Shortly after, Shoji opened the door.

"Fu...Fumikage? Is that you?"

"As I live and breathe, Mezo. How are you?"

"Great now that you showed up. It's so good to see you again."

"Summer does take its toll on time."

"I couldn't agree more." Shoji said as he leaned on the doorframe. "Would you like to come in?"

"Actually, that's why I'm here. Ever since the move, things have been strenuous. I...um..."

Why was he hesitating? Was he not sure how to ask? Did he want to make a good impression inviting his friend over?

"M...my family and I would be very pleased to have you over for breakfast."

Shoji smiled faintly as he looked down at his friend. "You know, ever since the dorm incident, I was kind of hoping to see you again."

Toko remembered at that point and began to get flustered. He tried to hide it, but it'd been difficult. Nobody else knew about that situation but them. It'd been a year since then, and their dorms were so close. Maybe Shoji did consider him more than a friend. He didn't know. He was unsure of what he had pent up inside. For once he wished he had a quirk that could read thoughts.

He was surprised to hear Shoji mention that. He himself was such a stern and serious student but he had been surprised to actually become that flustered in the first place.

"I'll go get ready." Shoji turned to walk to his room after he'd showed Toko into the living room.

"P-please, take your time. No need to rush, it is only 8am after all."

Shoji knew about Dabi as well, he was one of the few to accept him, so he needn't worry about judgement. Dabi didn't mind Shoji too much, which worked in Toko's favor.

A few minutes later, Shoji walked back into the living room. "Alright, we ready to go, Fumi?"

"F-Fumi? Where did that come from?"

"We're well acquainted, so I may as well call you Fumi. I apologize if it upset you in any way."

"No need for apologies. It's quite a fitting abbreviation. Wouldn't you agree, Sho?"

"Indeed."

"Mm... Idle chat can come later. Have you eaten?"

"Actually, no, I haven't."

"Let's not waste time then."

They began to walk to Tokoyami's house, the two silently exchanging glances every now and then.

Tokoyami was sure Dabi and Hawks were still arguing, but they never truly meant harm to each other. Fortunately for him, Shoji knew that too.

Why did Toko always feel so...safe around Shoji?

As he walked he could only think about the person that was right beside of him, and he was visiting his house of all things. Wait! toko thought to himself. He's going to be in my room! Toko blushed at the thought of it.

"You okay?" shoji asked Toko in a worried manner.

"Im' perfectly fine Sho why do you ask?"

"Your face is as red as a tomato Toko are you ill or anything?''

"No no it's just that you get to come over finally."

"But why does that make your face red" said Shoji

"Oh no why did I not say it was just hot out?!" toko thought

"No reason Sho lets keep walking we're almost home."
