Darkrai's knowledge on how long humans live is limited, as well as not knowing if they can come back from the dead. All the girls he was after had a passing resemblance to Ash, that's why he killed them. They have no further correlation to Ash, not a previous life, or blood relation at all.

Darkrai will be getting everything he deserves when the time is right.

"So what're you reading?" Serena said, plucking the book from Ash. "You know I thought it would be battle strategies…". Serena said seeing the article about the destroyed town.

"It's Doctor Hale's research on The Dark One." Ash said. "I'm trying to see if I can find out what he's up to."

"Do you think it will help?" Serena asked. "I mean even you said he's been at this for hundreds of years."

"I don't know, but any leverage I can get is helpful, he's gathering allies, and soon they'll strike again. Then there's her." Ash said flipping open a folder, holding photos of the girl from the Hale's security footage. "I don't have any proof yet, but I just know she's in league with Darkrai."

"You should grow your hair out again, maybe like hers." Serena said idly.

"Not helping Serena." Ash said.

"And neither is you not having lunch, so I'll stop with my suggestion, if you start eating." Serena said a bit forcefully.

"Fine." Ash agreed, setting down his work.

Later shortly after school got out

"I'm teeming you I'm this close to cracking the code on what Darkrai was doing at all these locations." Ash said to Serena.

"Ash, you need to not obsess over this. It's not healthy and you know it." Serena warned.

"I'm not obsessing, end of the week tops I'll have this figured oof!" Ash said as he fell on the ground.

"Dr. Hale's research on the fabled dark one." A young woman said, picking up the book. "I've been interested in the findings as well."

"Oh, please be careful, that's the original copy." Ash said.

"Of course. The woman said dusting the cover. "Here you go, I'm sorry. I don't think I caught your name."

"I'm Ash Ketchum, thanks for giving it back." Ash said.

"Oh this is wonderful, my name is Shauntal." The woman said.

"I knew I recognized you!" Ash exclaimed. "You're a member of the Unova Elite Four!"

"Yes, and I'll sweeten our battle. If you manage to beat me three to one, I'll share what I understand about The Dark One." Shauntal said.

"Okay." Ash said. "But I promised one of my other Pokemon this fight."

"Not a problem. I'm excited for what you have in store." Shauntal said.

At the outdoor arena behind the lab

"Alright, let's do this." Ash said. "Scraggy I choose you!"

"Cofagrigus let's do some research!" Shauntal declared.

"Of course you're a ghost type trainer." Ash groaned.

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but Scraggy is a dark type. What's the problem?"

"Nothing." Ash lied. Scraggy was still struggling with non normal and fighting moves. Hopefully his training had been going well. Ash pulled out his phone, quickly scanning Scraggy. 'Well it's not dark, but hopefully it'll work.' Ash thought to himself.

"Cofagrigus use Shadow Ball!"

"Scraggy use Iron Head!"

Cofagrigus began opening their coffin to launch its attack, only for Scraggy to slam it back shut with his head.

"One thing Scraggy is good at is his head." Ash said.

"Cofagrigus use Will O Wisp!"

"Scraggy don't let the flames hit you!" Ash called out.

Scraggy pulled up his pants as he began running away from the flames, jumping over Cofagrigus as the flames hit their user.

"Now finish it with another Iron Head!"

Scraggy slammed into the back of Cofagrigus knocking it to the ground defeated.

"Cofagrigus return. Impressive using Cofagrigus's solid body against it, but I doubt that will work twice. Golurk I choose you!" Shauntal said.

It wasn't nearly as big as Goh's Golurk, but the size difference between it and Scraggy was massive.

"Scraggy use Iron Head! Aim for the chest!"

"Golurk use Shadow Punch!"

Golurk's fist and Scraggy's head collided, sending Scraggy tumbling back.

"Ash it's not worth hurting Scraggy, just switch out!" Serena cried.

"Scraggy!" Scraggy yelled in defiance, charging at Golurk once again.

Scraggy leapt into the air, striking Golurk in center dial, sending the large Pokémon stumbling momentarily.

"Golurk use Earthquake!"

"Scraggy launch up with a High Jump Kick!"

Scraggy jumped out of the way of Golurk's attack, but came hurdling back down, getting hurt in the process.

"Ash! You can't do that!" Serena scolded.

"Scraggy would've taken more from the Earthquake." Ash pointed out. "When he's ready to bow out, he will."

As Ash was saying that, Scraggy stood back up, limping slightly from his hurt knee, but brushed it off.

"Alright Scraggy use Iron Head again!"

"Golurk use Hammer Arm!"

Scraggy collided with the arm, and just like before was launched back at the ground.

"Scraggy use Iron Head!"

"Golurk use Hammer Arm!"

"Aim for the legs this time!" Ash called out.

With Scraggy staying low, Golurk wasn't able to land a hit as it was toppled over.

"One more. How are you doing Scraggy?" Ash asked.

"Scraggy!" Scraggy saluted, pulling his pants up.

"And we've got a secret weapon." Ash said showing his z ring.

"Confident for someone who's used one move." Shauntal said. "Jellicent show them your stuff!"

"Scraggy use Iron Head!"

"Jellicent use Energy Ball!"

Scraggy his Jellicent, as he bounced off a strange energy passed over him, before he was hit by the attack.

"Scraggy use Iron Head again!"

Scraggy began charging forward, but nothing happened.

"No." Ash said in realization.

"SCRAGGY! SCRAGGY! SCRAGGY! SCRAGGY! SCRAGGY! SCRAGGY!" Scraggy yelled giving a tantrum.

"Jellicent use Surf!"

As Scraggy tried his best to activate Iron Head, Unfezzant flew over the arena. While Scraggy was far from the newly hatched Pokémon he was in Unova, she and the others alway kept an eye on him, be it on their journey, as Oak's lab or even here. She quickly sped off, he needed their support.

"Scraggy, you can stop. The information isn't that important!" Ash yelled out.

"Scraggy!" Scraggy yelled. It didn't matter how angry he got or how frustrated, he just couldn't use any dark move he tried.

"Ash, look." Serena said in awe, Ash's Unova league team was coming towards the arena. A collective roar being let out in support of Scraggy.

A flame ignited in Scraggy's heart, and a new move in his head. Scraggy charged forward, with his friends backing him, he could do it. Scraggy began hitting Jellicent, each fist a shadowy figure appearing. Unfezzant, Oshawatt, Pignite, Snivy, Leavanny, Palpitoad, Gigalith, and Krookodile. Jellicent spun backwards from the onslaught.

"Was that a new move?!" Serena asked.

"Yep, and now let's end this." Ash said switching out the Z Crystal. "Scraggy use Black Hole Eclipse!"

Dark energy formed in the sky, sucking in Jellicent. Moments later it was spat back out, defeated.

"Scraggy! You did it! You learned a dark type move!" Ash said excitedly hugging him, only for the other Unovan Pokemon to quickly do the same. In his pocket, Ash's phone showed his rank rise to 819.

A bit later

"Well, before I go, I have a promise to keep." Shauntal said. "This book contains The Dark One's final victims of each location, once they were gone the sieges just stopped. I hope you know what you are looking for."

"I do to." Ash said looking at the book. Was he really ready to go this far to stop Darkrai?
