"Ash Ketchum, the principal would like to see you." A voice rang over the PA.
Ash groaned as he had just opened his lunch as that rang over the school.
"Here, knowing this school, I won't be back in time to eat it anyways." Ash said, pushing his lunch to Serena.
As he walked through the halls, Ash racked his brain on what they could want this time. Was it about the family emergency card he'd pulled a bit back, or was it something else? Was he not going to graduate, was there an emergency in Alola? The more he thought about it, the more panicked he got.
"You asked to see me?" Ash said unsure as he was let into the office.
"Ahh Ash, aren't you… Happiny to see me!" Principal Oak said spinning around.
"I thought the principal wanted to see me though?" Ash said confused by the arrival.
"Having a bit of Amnesia Ash, or did you forget this isn't your only school." Professor Kukui said.
"Kukui! You too? What are you guys doing here?" Ash asked.
"After your request to add battling into the curriculum, I contacted your old school, too see if your grades in their battle tests were up to code." The schools principal said.
"Of course you Parased with Flygon colors!" Principal Oak said.
"But we began talking, about a student exchange program between the two schools." Professor Kukui said.
"Before we enact it, we wanted to make sure both schools could hold their own in the curriculum though." The principal said.
"So, it's just a business visit, that's why I'm missing lunch?" Ash asked.
"Same old Ash, always thinking with his stomach." A fourth voice said walking in from behind Ash. "Ash Ketchum, I challenge you to a battle!" Kiawe said triumphantly.
"Oh, you are on!" Ash said.
Out front of the school
"This will be an exhibition match between Ash of Pallet Town representing The Vermillion Academy for Higher Learning, and Kiawe of Paniola Town, representing the Alolan Pokemon School!" Professor Kukui said. "This will be a three on three match, the winner will be decided when one side is no longer able to battle. Trainers, at your ready. Begin!"
"Since Kiawe uses fire types, I'll use Totodile!" Ash called out.
"Turtonator, come on out!"
"Totodile use Waterfall!"
"Turtonator use Flamethrower!"
Fire and water collided as steam covered the arena quickly.
"Totodile use Dragon Dance!"
"Turtonator use Shell Smash!"
As the steam cleared, both Pokemon seemed to be moving faster than before.
"Totodile use Waterfall!"
"Turtonator use Dragon Tail!"
Turtonator pushed through the jetstream of water, returning Totodile to his Pokeball, in his place was now Gible.
"Alright, Gible use Dig!"
"Turtonator use Dragon Tail as soon as it pops up!" Kiawe called out.
Minutes passed as Gible never popped up from the ground.
"Ash, this isn't like you, where's Gible?" Kiawe asked.
"I don't know. Hey Gible! Where are you!" Ash shouted. As he did the ground beneath Turtonator crumbled, as Gible popped up a few feet away from the now trapper Turtonator.
"Weird, but okay. Gible use Draco Meteor!"
"Turtonator use Focus Blast!"
Gible's attack went high into the sky as he dodged the Focus Blast. As Turtonator struggled to get out of the hole, he was hit again by Gible's attack, falling on his spikes, setting off their explosive capabilities.
"Turtonator return." Kiawe said. "Marowak, you're up!"
"That Marowak, it looks weird."
"Is it shiny?"
"I don't think that's the case."
"I heard they're different types in Alola."
"Do you think it's trainer is single?"
A large crowd had formed around the arena, to watch the match.
"Professor, can we make sure we have some more space. Ash and my battles get a bit explosive." Kiawe reminded.
"Gible use Dig!"
"Marowak use Shadow Bone!"
Gible dug out of the way as Marowak's bone launched at him.
"You're tunneling under tactic won't work a second time." Kiawe said.
"Not sure what Gible's plan is, him along with a few others have been doing a lot of training lately." Ash said.
A blueish blur jumped out of the ground striking through Marowak.
'Gabite has been registered to your Pokédex.' Ash's phone called out.
"Classic Ash, getting a power up mid battle." Kiawe joked.
"Gabite! Use Dragon Claw!"
"Marowak use Flame Charge!"
The Pokémon collided, as Marowak pushed back against the newly evolved Pokémon.
"Time for a switch. Sorry Gabite. Totodile, come on out!" Ash said.
""Marowak use Bonemerang!"
"Totodile use Waterfall!"
Totodile blasted water at Marowak, the bone flying off in the distance.
"Watch out for a wild bone!" Ash called out. "Now Totodile use Crunch!"
"Marowak use Iron Head!"
Marowak leapt at Totodile, his head getting stuck in the water types jaws, a second glow enveloping one of Ash's Pokémon.
'Croconaw has been added to your Pokédex.'
"Seriously!" Ash called out in shock. "I ask you guys to learn new moves, and you decide to finally start evolving!"
"So this isn't your plan?" Kiawe asked surprised.
"Kiawe, I never have plans like this. My goal has always been to let my Pokémon choose to evolve." Ash pointed out. "Croconaw use Waterfall!"
"Marowak use Iron Head!"
As Croconaw was rushing forward, he was hit in the back of his head by Marowak's bone, and then in the gut by Marowak themselves. Knocking him out.
"You did great Croconaw, come on back." Ash said. "Come back out Gabite!"
"Marowak use Shadow Bone!"
"Gabite use Draco Meteor!"
By the time Marowak made it to Gabite, the attack had hit him, tumbling backwards.
"Gabite use Dragon Claw!"
"Marowak use Shadow Bone!"
Gabite's claws clashed with Marowak's bone, the two trading blows.
"Gabite use Dragon Claw again!"
"Marowak use Flame Charge!"
Gabite slashed through Marowak's attack, knocking it to the ground in defeat.
"Marowak return. Charizard, it's your turn! Burn with the flame of Wela Volcano! Use Dragon Pulse!"
"Gabit use Slash!"
The battle damage from both Turtonator and Marowak had began to slow down Gabite as he was hit by Charizard's attack.
"Gabite return! Please don't tell me you're going to evolve too." Ash said. "Don't even know how you would. Time to see how you hold up against Kiawes. Charizard you're up!"
"Charizard use Flamethrower!" Both trainers called out.
Flames erupted from both Pokémon, the surrounding area heating up.
"Charizard use Air Slash!" Both trainers called out again.
"Flamethrower. Dragon Pulse. Air Slash. You can match three of my moves, but what about a forth. Charizard use Seismic Toss!" Ash called out.
"Charizard use Fire Punch!" Kiawe countered.
The two Charizard spun in the air, one being hurdled towards the ground, the other landing by Charizard.
"Time to finish this. With all my might, and all my power. Inferno Overdrive!" Kiawe said using his Z Move!
"Charizard use Flamethrower!" Ash said, his eyes glowing blue. Kiawe had always been one trainer to push him to be a better person, and a better trainer at the same time.
As the smoke cleared, Ash's Charizard was the one left standing.
"Kiawe, that was a great battle." Ash said.
"I wanted to battle you before things got too busy for us both, but I didn't want to wait for you to visit Alola again." Kiawe said.
"You didn't wait, and I don't think I should either." Ash said. "I know where my next battle will be, and I'm not going to wait for them to come to me."
Authors note
So this is an idea I've wanted to do for a bit, obviously with five years of time having passed, a large amount of training has happened for Ash's Pokemon, and with their added training for the smaller ones, it made sense for some evolutions, especially since the last time an old Pokémon evolved was chapter 100! Plus if you look into it, Gible was supposed to evolve, as a Gabite was shown in one of the openings with the rest of Ash's Sinnoh teams headshots.
