Chapter 28: Awake
"Awake" – Secondhand Serenade
With every appearance by you, blinding my eyes,
I can hardly remember the last time I felt like I do.
You're an angel disguised.
And you're lying real still,
but your heart beat is fast just like mine.
And the movie's long over,
that's three that have passed, one more's fine.
Will you stay awake for me?
I don't wanna miss anything
I don't wanna miss anything
I will share the air I breathe,
I'll give you my heart on a string,
I just don't wanna miss anything.
I'm trying real hard not to shake. I'm biting my tongue,
but I'm feeling alive and with every breathe that I take,
I feel like I've won. You're my key to survival.
And if it's a hero you want,
I can save you. Just stay here.
Your whispers are priceless.
Your breathe, it is dear. So please stay near.
…
Say my name. I just want to hear you.
Say my name. So I know it's true.
You're changing me. You're changing me.
You showed me how to live.
So just say. So just say,
That you'll stay awake for me.
"Edward…" Bella mumbles in her sleep, I smile and kiss her forehead.
She had fallen asleep shortly after we returned from the rooftop, it had been a long and stressful day so I wasn't surprised she was knocked out cold the minute her head hit the pillow.
"Butterscotch… green. "
I chuckle quietly, god only knows what she is dreaming about. As long as she isn't having any nightmares everything is alright.
With my forefinger I start tracing small patterns along her cheek and nose. Her skin is so soft and warm, so unlike mine I can't get enough of it. With a sigh, Bella stirs and burrows her face in my chest, I wrap my arms tighter around her and press my face to her hair, taking a long pull of air. Her scent is so powerful it intoxicates me completely, it fills my lungs and travels along my frozen veins setting my throat in flames but I don't care about the pain. My angel is here with me, and I am able to hold her like this… I'm never going to let anyone, not even my inner monster, no matter how stronger than me he is to change that.
I spend the rest of the night listening to her heartbeat, it is strong and with every beat I imagine my heart beating along with hers. I can't sleep, but that doesn't mean I can't dream. Once I told Bella that if I could dream at all, it would be about her… well, that's changed now since Elizabeth came to my life so now, they are both in my dreams, if you can call them that.
Anyway, I let my mind wander and once again it takes me to that unrealistic future where I was human and Bella, our daughter and I had a bright future full of possibilities. Where Lizzie wasn't an only child and had one or two other siblings to play with. Where Bella was never sick and was happy and healthy, with her college diploma hanging proudly on the wall of our living room. A world where I could be a normal father and husband and be what they needed. In this world we lived in a two story house next to Charlie's, with a white fence so the kids would be safe playing outside. Maybe we had a pet, like a dog or something. A real one, not like Seth.
As always, by the end of the dream I find myself upset and disappointed. I would never be able to give them that, I would never be able to give them a normal life, but if there's something I have learned this past year, is to count my blessings and be thankful for what I've got, which is way more than I could've ever hoped for. I shouldn't be greedy, especially when I look around me and see the rest of my family. I got way more than they could ever get, I have a beautiful and amazing daughter and that's better than anything else. I guess, I'm not exactly sad for me, because I wouldn't trade anything, even my mortality for my daughter. I'm just frustrated because of everything I robbed from Bella.
But, life isn't fair.
Somewhere around six, I hear Lizzie wake up and quietly make her way to Bella's room.
She knocks softly and I tell her to come in. Her eyes widen when she sees me in Bella's bed, with my arms around her mother. With a watery smile she jumps into bed with us and sits on my stomach.
"What are you doing up so early?" I ask quietly, mindful of not waking up her mother and Lizzie takes my hand, not wanting to wake her mother up either knowing she hasn't been feeling well lately.
"I'm thirsty."
I look up to my daughter's big brown eyes. Touch her forehead and listen to her pulse. She was pale and cold, her pulse a bit low.
"As soon as mommy wakes up, I'll warm up some blood for you in the microwave. Ok?"
"Can't we go hunting?"
I shake my head.
"I think it'll be best if you and mommy tried not to go out as much for a while."
Lizzie showed me visions of Victoria from the time she attacked us back in November, before we thought Bella had died.
"Is she out there again?"
I kissed her forehead.
"Don't worry angel, daddy won't let anything happen to you."
Lizzie sighed and laid down, snuggling between us and I wrap my arms around both of them.
"What about school? And ballet?"
"You'll still be able to go, don't worry princess."
"Thank you daddy" She kisses my cheek "I love you."
"I love you more, little angel."
She gives me a sweet smile before speaking again.
"Why do you call me and mommy your angels?"
I chuckle. She was being curious today.
"Because you are both my angels."
"But, why?"
"Because you and mommy save me everyday, you are the only good thing in my life."
"What about nanna? And grandpa Carlisle? Aren't they your family too?"
"Of course they are, and I love them very much. They all helped me get by for years, but the difference is that you and momma make me happy, very happy. You help me live, remember when we talked about souls and death?" I waited for her to nod "well you and momma are like these special angels sent to me to make me happy while I'm stuck here."
"I can't believe you are telling her these things." Bella mumbles hoarsely before opening her eyes and giving me a playful glare.
"I'm just telling her the truth." I smile innocently "Did we woke you up? Sorry." She rolls her eyes and faces Lizzie
"Daddy is kind of… old," she makes a funny face and Lizzie giggles "so he has this weird old views and silly thoughts about him not having a soul." Bella explained.
"Bell-" I started to protest but she shut me up.
"Let me ask you one thing, what are you?"
I look at her strangely.
"Vampire."
"Why do you think you don't have a soul?"
"You know why, because of what I am."
"And what am I?"
"Human."
"Do you think I have a soul?"
"Of course!"
"Why?"
"Because you are a good person."
"So I have a soul just because I'm a good person, not because of what I am. That doesn't make sense with what you just said, don't you think Lizzie?" Lizzie nods.
"You know what I have done, Bella." I said not comfortable about talking about my past in front of our daughter. "That doesn't make me a good person."
"Only the bad guys… and what about Carlisle? He has never killed anyone, and he's a good person… does he have a soul?"
"No, he's a vampire."
She purses her lips in thought before looking back at me.
"What is she?" She points at Lizzie.
"Half and half."
"So that means she has just half a soul?"
"No, she has her soul. She's perfect."
"You don't make much sense then, she's a vampire where it counts just like you. She craves blood, she's immortal and could easily kill a human. Are you telling me just because she's your daughter she is damned? Like Carlisle? Even if neither one of them have killed anyone? That's kind of unfair."
"I have killed people Bella, Lizze hasn't. Maybe you are right, maybe I used to have a soul but not anymore."
"You just killed the bad guys, to me you are the angel… just think about all the lives you saved, I can vouch for that." She winks and I roll my eyes.
"Now," Bella stands up and takes Lizzie "since daddy is being all moody today as always," Lizzie giggles and I poke her tummy glaring at her mockingly "why don't we get dressed for today while he sits, broods and mops in that big head of his?"
"Can we watch Shrek?"
"Of course baby."
.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
About an hour later Bella and I are in the kitchen. While Lizzie waits for us on a stool Bella prepares her breakfast and I heat up a cup of blood for our daughter. It's Saturday, Carlisle had the day off so everyone is home.
"You look gorgeous this morning." I whisper in Bella's ear as the ding of the microwave goes off. I take the cup and hand it to my waiting daughter, playfully bit her nose and sit next to her.
"You are biased." Bella blushes and rolls her eyes, adding butter to the mix.
"Look at that," I nudge Lizzie with my elbow "Momma's being silly this morning too."
Lizzie giggles, her eyes shinning with joy.
"What's the plan for today?" Bella asks casually, changing the subject.
"I want to go for a run." Lizzie says excitedly.
Bella and I exchange a wary glance, just this morning while Alice was dressing Lizzie I had shared with her my suspicions about her red sweater, and all the theories my family and I had come up with last night. Jasper helped along telling her about our vampire history, the southern wars and the Volturi's involvement to put a stop to them so she could understand the danger of it all.
"Didn't you want to watch a movie?" I ask "I'm sure Emmett and Kate would love to watch it again with you."
"Yes!" Lizzie cheers "I'll go look for them!" She jumps out of the stool and runs out of the kitchen calling for her favorite uncle.
"They'll destroy the house one of these days." Bella comments with a smile, looking the way our daughter had gone.
"Good thing Esme loves architecture, she could use the excuse to re-do the entire house."
Bella rounds the kitchen island and comes to a stop in front of me between mi legs. I wrap my arms around her waist and she circles my neck with hers.
"What are we going to do about Lizzie and school?" She asks.
"Nothing, for now. We'll act as if nothing's happened. We'll all be in the look out but we can't stop our lives. We all have a role to play until summer break in a few weeks."
"What happens next?"
"If we haven't caught her by then, we'll relocate some place new and remote so we can be more free to be ourselves and protect you. There has to be a town nearby in case you need anything though."
"Why can't we go back to Alaska with the Denalis?"
"Because of the altitude, I know you struggle to breath here and the winters are harsh, Elizabeth needs wild animals nearby."
She sighs and rests her forehead on my chest, I lift my hand and start playing with her hair.
"By the way, Esme agreed to drive me to pick up the tests while you are at school with Lizzie on Monday."
I frown, just Esme?
"Take Emmett and Alice with you."
"They have classes."
Right.
"Eleazar and Carmen?" I suggest. Victoria was out there and she wasn't alone, Bella knows this.
"Okay."
"Thank you." I kiss her forehead.
Even though we were all on high alert, the rest of the day passed smoothly. Emmett and I kept guard, Tanya run perimeters and Alice was constantly trying to look out for Victoria. Trying to see if she would attack soon or if she was close enough so we could chase her and end this madness. But so far nothing, she could see her in the woods but that didn't give us much information. Victoria was being careful not to give anything away, thanks to Laurent she was able to play with Alice's visions and knew how to keep her locations a secret.
That's what made us more nervous. If Victoria was being careful that meant she was planning something and it was driving Alice crazy. She'd been locked up in her room all day with raging headaches and snippets of the future to short or blurry for her to make any sense of them. It was as if Victoria was changing her mind every second and those decisions had multiple consequences depending on someone else's decisions.
We all had rolls, Bella, Esme, Seth and Kate were in charge of distracting Lizzie while Tanya, Emmett, and I took charge of security, running perimeters and acting as bodyguards. Meanwhile Eleazar, Carmen, Jasper and Carlisle discussed the newborns. They were making us all nervous, Jasper said the number was larger, he and Eleazar couldn't even get around the idea of a clan of 25 newborns, it was so unheard of, not even during the wars clans were as large. Did they take out their creator? Is that why they were so out of control? And why have the Volturi not done anything about it?
We were nervous because even though they were still pretty far away, they could still bring trouble. They were too many for us to take care of if by some cruel joke of destiny they came across Bella's scent by accident, and it would be too dangerous if the Volturi crossed paths with us on their way to get them since we were right in the middle. Aro might want to come and visit Carlisle or they could run into Lizzie's unique scent. Aro couldn't know about Lizzie, he would want to add her to his collection and if he finds out about Bella, a human who knows too much about us we would all be sentenced.
We were seriously reconsidering to relocate now, appearances be damned but that still took time, at least a week since it would be some place new and still we weren't sure if we had enough time before the Volturi arrived to America if they haven't already. Alice said Aro had already sent someone to investigate, but that was all she could see.
After coming back from a run with Tanya, I go upstairs to change into fresh clothes. From the window in my new room, I spot Bella on one of the chairs in the backyard with her laptop on her lap. I jump out of the window and walk towards her.
"What are you doing?" I ask Bella, making her jump at my sudden appereance.
"Just catching up on some mails." She closes her laptop before I could see anything "I should call Leah, Emily says she's having a difficult pregnancy, lots of hormones. Jacob must be going nuts, she already had quiet a temper." She chuckles and I smile at her.
"You want to visit her?" I sit next to her.
Her eyes become wide with hope.
"Really?"
I shrug.
"Sure, after we find Victoria of course. I know you miss your friends… I don't want you to feel like you are trapped here."
She smiles at me, stands up and kisses me chastely.
"Thank you Edward, Leah is really special to me."
"I know." I kiss her back and pull her onto my lap "She was there for you."
"Yes," she reclines her head on my shoulder "she and Seth were the first ones to jump between me and the wolves."
I nod.
"I know, Jacob told me the story. I wish I could repay her somehow. To both of them."
"Well, she's not your biggest fan so I'd keep my distance for now if I were you." She chuckled "Especially now, Emily told me she has already dislocated Jacob's arm a couple of times during her tantrums."
I laugh out loud, I wish I could have seen that.
"I know, they make quiet a couple… always arguing. Anyway, I'll go back inside. I need to use the bathroom."
I smile at her and let her go have her human moment. I turn my head around and see Emmett and Tanya talking by the edge of the lawn, discussing the pros and cons of having a mate like Emmett or lovers like Tanya. Emmett was trying to convince her to settle down but Tanya says she is too young for that which I don't get since she's older than Carlisle, but whatever.
Five minutes later, I hear Bella's quiet footsteps, I turn around and frown when I see her confused face.
"Bella?" I ask worriedly, appearing next to her "are you ok?"
"Yeah… just… I just got my period." She looks at me, still confused.
"What?" I tilt my head to the side in confusion.
"Now it all makes sense… no wonder I was so off." She sighs covering her face.
"What make sense?" I ask getting a little impatient, and even more flustered when she blushes. "What's wrong Bella?"
"Nothing's wrong… I just… the migraines, the dizziness?" I nod "I think I was just pmsing"
I frown.
"But… didn't you have a hysterectomy?" I scratch the back of my head, still confused.
"It was partial, only my uterus was removed." She shrugs and my frown deepens, hating myself for not knowing that. I should have asked her more questions about her pregnancy and the complications afterwards. In those cases, supposedly 80 percent of women will not menstruate, whereas the remaining 20 percent may.
"How do you feel about it?"
"I don't know… I guess I'm glad my body is still functioning, kind off. At least now we don't have to worry about the tests."
"We are still getting the results on Monday, just in case. And… uhm I guess Alice should drive you to the pharmacy?"
She blushes again.
"Yes, I think tha-"
"Edward," Jasper appears on the doorway, his face full of shock and horror "You should see this."
.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
"Judging by their clothes and lack of identification, most of the bodies seem to belong to homeless men and women… Police already suspected that the band had moved to Canada and now this confirms it, and judging by this trace, the bone crushers must be heading towards Calgary… leaving a long trail of bodies on their way."
Thirty-seven bodies.
Thirty-seven bodies were found in a warehouse between Kamloops and Calgary. That's too much blood, too many newborns. So that's why now we are all in the living room, coming up with a plan so we can disappear quickly and quietly to a new place while Alice paces in circles around us, trying to see the future. But even if she saw around Lizzie and Seth she couldn't see much but the image of all of us standing in a clearing, which was too short to make much sense of it.
We can't stay here anymore, Calgary is too close to Sundre. One of them can run into Bella or Lizzie's scent around the woods and become curious.
"If they killed their creator, they must not know about the rules." Kate says.
That seemed the most logical explanation since there wasn't any clan they were fighting against like they used to do in the southern wars. There must not be any leader if they were so uncontrolled, but again… why would they stick together?
Jasper thinks their target must be Calgary, they might want to claim that territory but, why all the fuss? They could have stayed in Seattle, they were already there and it wasn't claimed.
"If we all go and explain them the rules maybe we won't have to move." Kate continues.
"That's too risky, there's too many of them and if they feel threatened by all of us they will attack." Jasper explains "We would all have to go but that would leave Bella and Lizzie unprotected."
"What if just some of us go then?" Emmett inquires "You could make them all mellow with your gift, I could use my force if necessary and Carlisle could act as spokesman."
"That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard" Rose scoffed "You are not going alone with Jasper and Carlisle."
"I can take care of myself babe." Emmett protests.
"You are too impulsive, you'll do more damage than good." She retorts and I have to agree with her.
"Rosalie is right," Jasper says agreeing too "you rile up easily, I think it'll be best if Edward comes." Bella stiffens next to me "His gift will come up handy too."
"So, these newborns… I gather they are not like you?" Seth asks nervously but tries to hide it.
"There's a big difference between a newborn and a mature vampire." I nod "Newborns are just months old to this lifestyle, children in a way. They are bloodthirsty, violent and uncontrollable, their enhanced emotions are hard to control and they get angry easily."
Eleazar nods along with me and he continues with my explanation.
"They have no skill or strategy, just brute strength. A newborn's physical strength greatly surpasses that of an older vampire because they still have their own blood lingering in their tissues."
"As Edward said, they're incredibly powerful physically for the first year or so," Jasper continues "they can crush an older vampire with ease. But they are slaves to their thirst, and thus predictable. That's why it can be easy to get rid of them with the proper training and skills."
"And there are about 30 of them?" Bella asks wide-eyed.
I kiss her head.
"Don't worry love, Jasper has experience with handling newborns. It won't come to a fight."
She doesn't seem convinced at all, but before she could say anything else Carlisle speaks.
"I still don't get why the Volturi has let it last so long. It's so unlike them."
"The only explanation I see is that the are observing them, to see if one of them has a special ability or something that would interest Aro, to spare them when they come to force their law. He has done that before." Eleazar answers.
"How do you know so much about them?" Bella asks, her grip on my hand tightening.
Eleazar smiles reluctantly and takes Carmen's hand.
"Before I met Carmen, I used to be one of them."
Bella gasps.
"I know, it's not something I'm proud of. Honestly, Aro is a bit crooked in his ways but I was alone and serving them provided a diversion."
"How so?"
"I have a special skill… I have the ability to sense the abilities of other vampires and humans. That's how I know how Aro works. He has done this before, I've been part of his games. When a clan is giving him trouble he waits, he observes so he can see if he can get something out of it and increase his power. He would forgive those specials vampires lives in exchange that they join him in his guard."
"But isn't he abusing his power, then?" Bella asks wide-eyed.
"Name a government that's not corrupted?"
Bella turns to me with terrified eyes.
"Aro can't know about Lizzie, he'll take her away."
This has been my principal worry since I learned about Lizzie's tears. Victoria, I could fight her, but we didn't stand a chance against the Volturi. That's why we needed to live as quiet as possible and couldn't attract any attention to us so the Volturi wouldn't come looking for us.
I wrap my arm around Bella and kiss the top of her head.
"I know, he won't."
…
…
After a big moment of silence, Tanya who has been pretty quiet speaks.
"Maybe they are behind it."
"How so?" Eleazar asks her.
"I don't know, maybe they want to get rid of a problem? It is so unlike them to let it go for so long. They don't like to be mocked and they love their rules, even if what Eleazar say it's true it's been almost a year."
Eleazar shakes his head.
"The Cullens are the closest and only clan in this area, besides they got the twin witches. They don't need all this mess just to take out someone."
"Twin witches?!" Bella shrieks "Are those real too?"
Everyone laughs.
"It's not in the literal sense, love." I chuckle and Bella blushes "Alec and Jane are vampires, just like us but with some special powers."
"What special powers?" She asks slowly.
I shake my head.
"It's nothing you should worry about."
Bella glares at me and I swallow, knowing I screwed up again.
"Jane has the ability to induce a crippling, although illusory pain in people's minds just with a look," Eleazar is quick to explain, sensing the tension between Bella and I "Alec is even worse… he can completely cut off all senses of multiple targets, sense deprivation."
Bella pales at this and turns to me.
"We need to do something now, they can't come near Lizzie."
"They won't, we'll talk to the newborns… explain the rules and then they won't have the necessity to come to America anymore."
"But there are thirty of them! Against eleven of you! What if things go out of hand?"
"They won't, Jasper knows how to control them. It won't get out of hand, I promise." I say trying to calm her, she shouldn't worry about this, she should concentrate on her health.
Then, she turns to Jasper.
"Can you really control so many of them?"
"Is not easy, but it's possible…" he says honestly "but still, the tiniest thing can upset them. When they catch the scent of blood, their hunting instincts take over and cloud their ability to focus, even the thought of the word "blood" is enough to make their thirst unbearable that's why they are so dangerous. Reason escapes them completely."
Bella bit her lip, thinking about Jaspers words with a worried expression on her face.
"Change me."
My entire body freezes and everyone else in the room stops breathing.
"What?" I ask carefully.
"Change me, I'm obviously a liability and if I'm one of you I'll be able to help and protect Lizzie."
"Didn't you just hear what we said?" I ask, my breathing quickening at the thought.
"Yes! That's why I want to help!"
"No." I say firmly
"Excuse me?"
"I said no, you wouldn't be a strength, you'd be crazed with thirst and uncontrolled. Lizzie is still half human you wouldn't even be able to be near her. Besides you don't have any battle skills."
"You can teach me," She begs "and I'd be in control, I wouldn't hurt my own daughter!"
"Is not that easy Bella. You'd only get yourself hurt."
"Edward is right Bella." Carlisle interjects "Plus, there's no time. You'd be rolling in pain for days and we must go to Kamloops tonight. The sooner the better."
"And the rest of us will stay making arrangements in case things go wrong and we need to leave. We won't be able to do that if we have to look after you." Esme adds with a sad smile.
She ignores that and turns to me again. Locking her eyes with mine.
"Change me. Please."
"Why?"
"Lizzie is in danger, you are in danger. I wanna help."
"Changing you shouldn't be something you decide on a whim just because you are afraid. It's something that can't be undone." I say getting impatient. My heart racing with different emotions, hope, anger, fear, dread and hope again.
"It's not a whim! I'm asking you to change me, I want it!"
I shake my head, if she wants to join me in this damned existence she has to make the decision while her head and emotions are clear. Not because she feels threatened. She has to be a hundred percent sure this is what she wants.
"Not like this! Two months ago I told you I would change you if you wanted to and you said no. I won't change you just because you are scared. I promise nothing will happen to you or Lizzie, I'll keep you both safe."
Abruptly, she stands up from the couch and towers over me.
"There are about thirty newborns, a crazed redhead with her goon and a whole clan of sick Italian royalty about to descend in our backyard, tell me how in hell will you keep your daughter safe!"
"That's why we are going to Kamloops tonight!" I stand up as well, trying to control my voice. "We'll talk to them and then we'll leave Canada."
"Change me!"
"No!"
"THIS IS MY DECISION!"
"NOT LIKE THIS!"
"Do you hear that?" Tanya suddenly interrupts us.
We all come to an abrupt stop and listened carefully, and sure enough in the distance we hear the unmistaken sound of vampire feet running against the wet ground.
"Vampire." I hiss.
"Who is it?" Carlisle asks.
"I don't know, I can't hear his thoughts yet."
"Is it Irina?" Kate asks hopeful but Alice shakes her head.
"She's still in Alaska. I can't see him with Seth and Lizzie here." As soon as she says this, the vampire comes close enough for me to hear him and I curse.
"It's Garret." I say through gritted teeth.
Bella's wild heartbeat wasn't helping with the situation.
"Is he friendly?" She asks in a tiny voice, her eyes going to the stairs leading to upstairs where Lizzie is taking a nap in her room.
"He's not vegetarian if that's what you are really asking. Carlisle, you should go he's looking for you."
"What's this?"
"Damn it! He picked up Lizzie's scent!" I hiss again. "He'll be here any second now, Seth take Bella upstairs to Lizzie's room."
Bells glares at me, disappointment on her face.
"I'm not a child you know? I can go to my room by myself."
Fuck.
"Bella…" I reach for her hand but she pulls it away, my heart breaks in pain "Love, I'm sorry I didn't-"
"Let me guess, you didn't mean it? What do you mean huh? I can't understand you Edward, I thought… I thought."
"You thought what?"
"Never mind." With that she goes upstairs with Seth following her.
"He's almost here." Alice says.
We all go outside, automatically forming a barrier between the house and the newcomer.
"Edward? What does he want?" Carlisle asks out loud and I listen carefully.
"He's curious, he hasn't heard from you in a while." I say in a tense voice and look up to the window in Lizzie's room. "He's keeps wondering about Lizzie's scent."
A minute later, Garret walks into our backyard, a carefree smile on his face.
"Carlisle!" He shouts as he sees us. "My friend, how are you?!" He comes forward and gives Carlisle a hug.
"Garret." Carlisle smiles tightly at him and I keep myself from looking back at the window. Has he picked up Bella's scent yet? Will he ask about Lizzie's strange scent?
Garret looks around at our strange stance but thinks nothing of it. His eyes focuses on the new faces.
"I see your clan has grown since the last time I saw you?" He winks at Kate "I'm Garret, enchanted to meet you lovely ladies."
"Garret, these are our cousins Tanya and Kate and that's Eleazar and his mate, Carmen from Denali. I believe you haven't met my daughter Alice and my son Jasper before either?"
"No, I haven't had the pleasure." He nods in their direction.
"What brings you here?" I ask, wanting to be done with this and have him as far away as possible.
"Just got bored, the grapevine says there's about to be a lot of action around here soon? I thought I could join the action."
"What are you talking about?" I ask in a detached voice, not believing what his thoughts are saying.
"Haven't you heard?" He asks me surprised, but Carlisle is the one to speak.
"What haven't we heard?"
"The Volturi, the whole guard is coming to take out the newborns. They'll arrive here within two weeks. The twin witches are coming too."
You see where I'm going with this, right?
See you soon!
Tammy
