"Unova, home of bustling cities, beautiful waters, lush flora, amazing tastes, and we get sent here." Chloe said.

"We aren't always going to have the ability to be in nicer places. We're here to investigate the sunken ruins." Ash commented.

"Let's split into two teams. Goh and Ash, Chloe and me." Serena offered.

"Sounds like a good plan." Ash said. "Goh and I have experience with the underground area so we'll head there, you guys explore the uncovered buildings outside of town."

Outside the ruins

"Just like old times, huh Ash?" Goh joked, setting up his sand board.

"Yeah, but we were far less experienced last time." Ash said. "We shouldn't run into nearly as many struggles this time."

"No sandboard, how do you plan on getting there?" Goh questioned.

"Goh, I literally just said we're more experienced, also I have more than just Dragonite this time." Ash said, spinning a Pokeball. "Now on that note, come on out Dragonite!" Ash said. "I said I have more than Dragonite, not that I didn't bring her."

"Let's just get going. Scyther let's show them we're still faster!" Goh said hanging onto the reign.

"Alright Dragonite. Use Extreme Speed!" Ash said, wrapped in Dragonite's arms.

A while later

"Took you long enough." Ash taunted from a ledge.

"Your wipeout is still visible." Goh said. "Also, your hair is a mess."

"I still won." Ash said, hopping down.

"Man, one of my best catches was in these very ruins, and now we have reports that an even rarer Pokémon is down there." Goh said.

In the ruined village

"Man the guys are missing out." Serena said, taking a drink of water. "Shade, water, and it's all nearby."

"I wonder how they're doing at the sunken ruins?" Chloe wondered.

"Goh, if we make it out of this alive, we're never coming back." Ash said, stuck in a sand trap.

"Don't you have anyone to get you out of there?" Goh asked.

"Don't you!" Ash said flailing his head about, the only thing left above sand.

"Right! Caterpie come on out and use String Shot!" Goh commanded.

Caterpie launched a thread at Ash's head and pulled with all its might, only flinging itself into a wall.

"Anything else!" Ash shouted.

"I'm trying!" Goh panicked. "Ash!"

Goh watched in horror as Ash's head sunk beneath the sand.

"Oh man Serena's gonna kill me." Goh said. "And then Mrs. Ketchum will bring me back and kill me again."

"Goh?!" Ash's voice was heard.

"I can still hear his voice." Goh said.

"Goh? Can you hear me?" Ash's voice was heard again.

"Ash? Are you talking to me from beyond? Did I get aura powers?!" Goh said.

"No, I fell through to the floor below!" Ash shouted. "Jump into the middle, you have to see what's down here!"

"How do I know it won't kill me?" Goh questioned.

"If I am speaking to you from beyond, at least this way Serena won't be able to get to you." Ash said.

"Works for me!" Goh said, leaping into the sand.

On the floor below

"Hi Ash." Goh said.

"Goh, what's your plan for when you drop?" Ash asked curiously, seeing Goh's head poke out of the ceiling.

"Don't worry Marnie says I have a thick skull." Goh said joyfully.

"Dragonite, can you pull him out please?" Ash asked.

A few moments later

"Never again!" Goh complained, holding the tattered remains of his jacket.

"The lab will get you a new one." Ash commented. "At least you didn't lose your boots."

"Why would you, oh." Goh realized. "So what was it you wanted me to see?"

"Right, come and look at this." Ash said.

"The room I caught Golurk in, I didn't think it was this close to the entrance." Goh said. "What's your point though?"

"We never thought about where Golurk would have gone if we didn't catch him." Ash said.

"How are we going to get down there, I don't think Dragonite can go both ways with both of us." Goh said.

"Goh, aura barriers. I think I can make them lower us safely." Ash said.

"Then let's see what's down there." Goh said.

Ash carefully controlled an aura bubble as they floated down the pit.

"Any way of telling if we're getting close, or that there's a floor below us?" Goh asked.

"Nope, unless you feel like free falling." Ash commented. "Wait, there's a flashlight installed in the jackets.

"If only mine worked!" Goh shouted.

"I said we'll replace it." Ash retorted.

"Okay how do I activate it?" Goh asked.

"To activate the light, touch the lab's emblem." Ash said.

Goh looked at Ash before shaking his head.

"Yeah, I'm not trying that, you get defensive when I go there." Goh said. "Can you just?"

"Yeah let me break my focus and concentration to give us a light." Ash said. "Wait! I think I see something!"

"Oh sweet ground." Goh said, flopping onto the ground. "And it's still sand."

"Okay, time to see what's down here." Ash said, activating the light.

"That's much better." Goh said. "I had no idea those lights were that powerful."

"They aren't." Ash said worriedly. "Goh, don't panic, back away slowly."

"What in the?!" Goh said, seeing the figure fly towards him.

"Volcarona!" Ash exclaimed.

"I've got it!" Goh said, throwing a Pokeball, only for it to bounce off.

"Careful there, don't go attacking her." A voice said.

"Someone's down here?" Ash said in surprise.

"Not just someone. A former champion." The voice said.

"I know that voice. Alder, are you over there?" Ash shouted.

"You have an advantage on me, I don't recognize your voice." Alder said.

"Well, it's been a long six years." Ash said. "I'm Ash, a fellow competitor in the world coronation series.

"And I'm Goh." Goh piped in.

"Ash, I remember you, it's been a while." Alder said. "What are you doing here?"

"We're looking for mysteries, what about you?" Ash asked.

"Exploring the region, training my team." Alder said. "Come on, I'll lead you back out the quicker way."

Back outside

"Thanks for the help Alder, I guess the reports of powerful Pokémon were just yours." Ash said with a laugh.

"At a time, I did catch my Volcarona down there, it's possible someone saw another, but I haven't." Alder said. "Be careful getting back to Castelia."

"Thanks Alder." Ash said, hopping on Dragonite.
