The silence was deafening. Scáthach waited patiently, knowing that it took a lot of time to process the kind of information she just provided. There was no joy in breaking truth to the blissfully ignorant. It was a heavy burden to bear, but it was hers to bear it.
"Are you serious?"
The Scot nodded. "Completely."
"They… they… what have they done?"
She shook her head. "I'm sorry."
The collected sheets of paper went up in blue flames, and then the ashes disintegrated. Not even dust was left.
"Who are these… arrogant humans that think they can defile me like this?"
"They will not live for much longer," Scáthach answered. "This I promise you."
Furious scarlet eyes flashed to her, the promise of a thousand supernovas in that gaze.
"I do not need your promises," Kama stated. "Show me where they are. I will trap them in the rivers of Lalabhkasa and drown in their own lust."
Scáthach snorted. "Fitting."
"It is not enough," the love god replied. "But it will have to suffice. I will not be subject to the whims of fools and ingrates again."
The second half of this chapter is in one of my other stories, Doldrums of the Soul, and acts as a bonus chapter for it.
