Mello stood on a stepstool in A and B's bathroom, looking at his hair in the mirror. He pushed his bangs out of his face again in an attempt to see past them and grumbled as he failed to do so.
"Mello, if you want me to cut your hair, I can." A said, leaning against the door.
"No, I can handle my hair on my own. It's just a bit too long, is all." The toddler said as they tried to tie their hair up.
A laughed, "Honey, if it's too long, then we should cut it."
"Mm-mm." Mello shook his head.
"Why don't you want a haircut?" A asked, kneeling to be at his height.
"Is it… painful?" Mello asked.
A burst out laughing, "Oh, of course not! It doesn't hurt at all! Unless I knick you with the scissors, then you'll be fine."
"You promise you won't knick me!" Mello cried.
"I swear on my life."
"Mmmm, ok. I'll let you… but don't cut it too short! Do it to here." Mello said, pointing at the spot just above his shoulders.
"Ok, I will. But you have to take a shower first, ok?" A said.
"Ok… can I use your soap?" Mello asked.
"Of course, darling. You don't even have to ask." A cooed as he ruffled Mello's long, blonde hair.
Mello smiled and stepped into the shower. A took out a towel and set it on the counter.
"I set out a towel for you. Don't take too long." A said, stepping out of the bathroom.
[15 minutes later]
Mello stepped out of the bathroom, dried off, and fully clothed. A had pulled out a chair and gotten his hair trimming tools out.
"Ready?" A asked.
Mello sat down in the chair, "Born ready."
"Sweety, it's a haircut. You're not going to war." A replied.
"I know what I'm getting into," Mello replied.
"Alright then." A said.
Mello held his breath as A made the first cut. Then another. And another. Until his hair no longer reached his mid-back but now just barely touched his shoulders. A removed the towel used to cover Mello's clothes.
"All done! Go look in the mirror and tell me if I ruined your life." A chimed.
Mello slowly walked to the bathroom and reluctantly looked in the mirror, fearing what A'd done to him. Mello touched the ends of his hair in awe. His hair was much more manageable now, and his bangs weren't in his eyes for once. He turned his head and looked at his now medium-length hair move when he turned.
"So?" A asked, leaning against the door frame, "How is it?"
"I… I love it!" Mello cheered and ran to hug A, "Thank you so much!"
A smiled and picked up the small boy, "Aw, no problem, sweetheart. Anything for you, my little angel."
"I wanna go show Matt!" Mello said as he wiggled out of A's arms.
A set him down before he hurt himself and chuckled a bit as Mello ran out the door to go show his friend his new hair. A sighed, satisfied with his work, then turned to look at the pile of hair on his carpet floor—a mess he did not want to clean.
"Ah, I suppose I'll take an early bedtime then. And I'll just hope B doesn't kill me in my sleep for this mess." A said, promptly going to sleep despite it only being 7 pm and hardly dark out.
The End
