Chapter Nine: The Mushrooms From Mushroom Hill
We now enter Mushroom Hill, where Sonic and Amy are. They were looking to collect some mushrooms. Sonic only has like half a bag full, while Amy has one bag full of mushrooms. They were fairly close to the lane where Sonic fought one of Eggman's robots in the past, before he destroyed it, by making it run into a tree.
"Sonic, how have you only got like half a bag full of mushrooms, when there are tons of giant ones here?" Amy teased.
"Well, sometimes, it's harder to pull out than I thought, Amy. Some are just stubborn." Sonic retaliated.
"So full of excuses, Sonic the Hedgehog. Even I got more than you have." Amy teased again.
"Huh, whatever." Sonic chuckled.
"Admitting defeat, are you, Sonic? Beaten by a girl, who's collected more than you have?" Amy teased again.
"Well, I may as well at this point. Yes, you win this round." Sonic stated.
"And my goodness, Sonic! Sometimes when I jump on the giant mushrooms, it's really bouncy, like a trampoline!" Amy stated, as she bounced on one, and chuckles.
"Yeah. And, oh, man, I forgot how big these mushrooms were. This brings back so much memories, when I first met Knuckles on this Island." Sonic mentioned.
"Must have been a fun adventure then." Amy smiled.
"Yeah, me and Tails were exploring this island one day, and then Knuckles stopped us in our tracks, and took the Emeralds from us. He was apparently tricked by Eggman, into thinking we were there to steal the Master Emerald, when really, that was just to distract Knuckles into stopping us, so Eggman could steal it." Sonic explained.
"And that's how you and Knuckles met?" Amy wondered.
"That is exactly how we met. It was wild, but without that, I would never have met Knuckles. We then eventually became friends." Sonic answered.
"Oh, I see. It was just destiny, I suppose." Amy mentioned.
"I believe it was something to do with destiny, yes." Sonic added.
"Anyway, Sonic, how much of these mushrooms do you believe we'll need for this lie detector, that Tails is making?" Amy wondered.
"Well, I'm not sure exactly how much he needs, but it couldn't hurt to collect a lot, so he has plenty, or for spares, in case it malfunctions, or something." Sonic thought.
"I guess spares couldn't hurt. I'm sure he'd need a lot anyway, spares or not." Amy mentioned.
"Yeah. And you see this lane that we're on now? This was where I have fought Dr. Eggman, after destroying his satellite looking thing, it then turns into a robot, and I chased it right down this road. And it crashed into that tree, I ran right through the tree, and there is the capsule I have destroyed, to release the animals he captured." Sonic explained again.
"Is that what that robot is down there?" Amy asked.
"Yep, that's the robot I fought, and destroyed itself by the tree." Sonic replied.
"I only wished I was there to share the experience with. You've had many exciting adventures." Amy stated.
"Well, they were exciting, but they were dangerous at the same time." Sonic mentioned.
Amy just looked at Sonic with annoyance.
"Well, no, n... not to say that you couldn't handle danger, or anything like that. Because you have helped with Zero, and Chaos, Boilizard, and Metal Overlord, and many others like that. I just mean back then, it was probably, if not more dangerous than what I did later." Sonic mentioned.
"Well, let's hope you don't mean it like that. I'm stronger than I look." Amy teased.
"Yeah, I know that. How you're able to carry that hammer, let alone swing it, is beyond me." Sonic mentioned, with surprise.
Amy took out her Piko-Piko Hammer, and demonstrates it.
"It takes a lot of practise. Like, I could barely even pick it up with both hands when I first tried it. But now, I can hold it, just by using two fingers." Amy smiled.
"Amazing. Absolutely amazing. Me and you are not so different after all." Sonic mentioned.
"What do you mean?" Amy wondered.
"Well, I didn't know I had this speed, until I was a little older. I never knew Eggman then, but we did have robots attacking us, and I was surrounded by them one day. I was scared, and didn't know what to do, I managed to run past one, and the more I thought about escaping, I suddenly just blasted off really fast. When I discovered I could do this, I trained myself to be able to control my speed. And now, I'm faster than the speed of sound." Sonic smiled.
"And that's how you discovered your speed? And when did you learn to do the spin dash attack?" Amy asked.
"That was a little before my speed actually. I know I could do that, but never at the speed I discovered later. Once I learned the speed, I added my spin along with it, and it became one of my lethal attacks." Sonic explained.
"That sounds amazing." Amy smiled.
"Speaking of amazing, Tails' lie detector! I think we have gathered enough mushrooms for that. I think we should head back to the palace, and bring this back to Tails. I'm sure he's back at the palace by now." Sonic mentioned.
"Yeah, we'll leave in a moment. I'm just gonna go explore this place for a bit." Amy stated, with a sad frown.
Before Sonic could say anything, Amy walked away. This really caught Sonic by surprise.
"Amy? I wonder what's wrong with her. I better go make sure she's OK, and she doesn't get hurt." Sonic stated.
After that, Sonic followed Amy, and he was hiding in the bushes, and kept his eyes on Amy. Amy was standing in a field, and sighs sadly to herself.
"Sonic has changed, like, he never use to be this open with me. But, am I too late for anything between us two to happen? Did I traumatise him so much as kids, that he doesn't have those feelings for me? Please life, where did I go wrong? Why doesn't Sonic love me, as much as I love him? Where did I go wrong?" Amy stated, as sad tears fell from her eyes.

(Amy singing)
Your spirit is a gentleman
Standing near my hidden doors within
Where you wait for me to allow you in

Your spirit is the wrecking ball
Tearing through these rebel walls
One by one I've watched them fall
Until you are all I see
.
Amy then approaches a lake nearby her, and looks into it. As she stares into it, she sees herself in a wedding dress, and Sonic next to her, wearing a tuxedo. Amy could only smile faintly at this scene.

Amy then stands up, and walks out of the forest, and now enters an open field, full of grass, and flowers, and some trees. Sonic continued to follow Amy, to make sure she doesn't get hurt. But he listened to her words very carefully.

(Amy singing)
Your spirit is now whispering
While all the lies are deafening
You speak to the very heart in me
Yet fear cannot remain
Your spirit is my light ahead
It calls me into the depths
It's now daring me to take a step
And lets you lead the way
.
Amy looks up towards the sky, and looks at the clouds. She sees the clouds form into the shape of herself and Sonic dancing, as if was just after the wedding, and at the wedding reception. Amy smiles, as more tears fell from her eyes. Sonic gasped in shock, seeing her tears.

"Have I really made Amy feel this way?" Sonic thought, sadly.

(Amy singing)
Your spirit is the only flame
Burning what is old away

Until all that's left is you

Amy's faint smile, then turns into a sad frown, and she begins to cry uncontrollably. Sonic noticed this, and he started to feel really bad about Amy. And he now understands the reasons why. Every word that Amy sings is making him realise it even more.

(Amy singing)

Amy continued to cry uncontrollably, as she drops to the ground, on all fours, with her head facing the ground.

(Amy singing)
Your spirit's my only constant friend
You're with me till the very end
I'll never be alone again

"Why do I never get good luck like Cream, or Tikal have? I have loved Sonic for as long as I can remember, and yet, somehow, he doesn't feel anything for me at all. Did I really scare him that much? Am I not the right one for him? Is there someone else that he likes, that I don't know about? I don't even know any more. But whatever it is, I will accept it, because I love him, and love you should accept what they do. But it hurts me at the same time, because the man I love, possibly doesn't love me the same way." Amy sobbed.
She continued to sob, while Sonic just listened on. He gasped in surprise. Every word Amy was saying was like getting hit with a ton of bricks being dropped on his head.
"Is that what she really thinks about me? She actually loves me, and not an obsessed fan girl she's been, since the day I rescued her from Little Planet? And I have been so immature about it, and took her love for granted. But if my enemies knew I grew an attachment towards her, they would hurt her, and use her to get to me. And I couldn't afford to do that." Sonic said to himself.
He looks on towards Amy, who was still crying uncontrollably. The more he watched, the more his heart was aching. He could not stands seeing Amy like this, and he wasn't entirely sure why.
"I think I know why my heart aches, when seeing her cry. I have neglected her for so long, and seeing her cry now, I feel really bad about this. I can't let my immaturity continue like this. I don't want it to be the very reason for whatever bond me and Amy have left, come to an end. I need to grow up now, and go towards Amy, and put this right. I can't keep making her feel this way about herself." Sonic stated with determination.
And with that statement that Sonic has mentioned, he exits the bushes he was hiding in, and made his way towards Amy. Sonic hopes that what he plans to say, or do next, will put things right with Amy. What will Sonic say, or do, to make this up to Amy?
And even if he does say, or do something, would this be enough to make amends with this relationship? Would this make it weaker, or would it possibly help to grow into something a lot more?
Whatever it was that Sonic plans to do, once he reaches Amy, he better make it quick, and make this action count. Because if he doesn't, he may never get another chance at this again.
