Chapter Eleven: Dr. Eggman Lives

Meanwhile, at the hospital, the doctors were doing what they can, to save Eggman's life. Eggman was in the operating room for over twelve hours, as they were having trouble trying to find out what the problem was.

When they finally found the source of the problem, they worked on it as much as they could. It turns out that when Eggman was stabbed, he was strapped in the spot there the lungs was. Luckily for him, it missed his lungs by an inch.

But unfortunately for Eggman, it did burst a lot of blood vessels in his blood stream. So the challenge for the doctors was to find a way to stop the blood from flowing out even more than it was.

There was many injections to help stop the blood from flowing out, and they proceeded to perform the surgery to stop this. And then after twelve hours of surgery, the operation was a success. Eggman was then stitched up, and placed in the medical ward, for recovery.

An hour has past since the operation, and here Eggman was groaning, and he slowly opened his eyes. His vision was slightly blurry, but then after a while, his vision came back fully. He then sat up from his bed, and groans in pain.

"How in the world did I get here?" he wondered.

Eggman then looked around the room, and he then noticed that he was in a medical ward. The TV was even still on, showing the news.

"I am in a medical ward. Now, let me think for a second. The last thing I remembered was Sonic stopped me, and foiled my plans, once again. Then he spoke to me about something. It was almost as if he was using some kind of words of wisdom. Which I can definitely see where he was coming from. And then..." Eggman cut himself off.

He slowly closed his eyes, and he was trying so hard to remember what had happened to him, the night he was stopped by Sonic.

(Flashback)

"Go easy on me, Sonic! You have beaten me! I surrender!" Eggman whimpered.

"Well, just goes to show you, you're just wasting your time, Eggman! So, why don't you just give up? I have been chasing after you since I was eleven-years-old, and now being twenty-seven, this is getting old now!" Sonic wondered.

"I have nothing to argue over, Sonic. You're right, this is getting old, knowing you beat me every time, and I'm also getting old." Eggman stated.

"It's been as fun for as long as I can remember, but now it's not fun any more. We're both not as young any more, and sooner or later, we both need to do something else in our lives." Sonic explained.

"You're right, Sonic. We both need to mature, and live normal lives." Eggman agreed.

Suddenly, Eggman gasped in pain, and Sonic gasped in shock. Blood was flowing from, Eggman's mouth, and he collapsed to the ground.

(End of Flashback)

Eggman's eyes shot open, in shock. He was breathing heavily. Panting hard, in and out. Eggman then looked at the TV, that was still on, and watched the news.

"Maybe the news will help jog my memory. I honestly only remembered that someone stabbed me in the back, and my mind went blank after that, and don't remember anything after that." Eggman thought.

"In today's news, the police are still on the hunt for the once known hero, Sonic the Hedgehog. He is wanted for attempted murder of Dr. Eggman. We are here with Richard Bradshaw, who if the Chief of the Station Square Police Department. Now, Chief Bradshaw, is there any luck on finding the blue blur at this moment in time?" the female news reporter stated.

"None as of yet, although my men are trying their hardest to look for him. Before we lost him, he kept acting all innocent saying he never murdered Eggman, and all that. But how could he say that, if he was literally the only one there? I never saw anyone else there, my men never saw anyone else there, so it had to have been him." Chief Bradshaw stated.

"And what will happen once Sonic is captured? Because knowing his speed and strength, you can't really lock him in a regular cell." she wondered.

"Well, that is true, yes. Which is why I got in contact with the military, and they decided to build an underwater prison for Sonic. He cannot escape from there. And even if he does, he is scared of water, so he'd end up drowning himself, if he dared to try and escape." he replied.

"Doesn't that seem a bit harsh to do that to someone, Chief? I mean, I know Sonic is a criminal, and he's murdered Eggman, but isn't this too much?" she asked in concern.

"It is harsh, yes. But, with a creature like Sonic, there is nothing more we can do about him. So this is literally the only option we have for him. Because, if he doesn't get locked up now, and he's capable of attempting to murder Eggman, who knows who he'll go for next?" Bradshaw stated.

"And speaking of Dr. Eggman, is there any news of him, since he was rushed to the hospital?" she asked.

"Well, all I know of, is that he is in the emergency ward now, getting an operation done. He has had quite a wound on his back, the last time we saw him. So, hopefully the doctors can do what they can to save his life." Bradshaw added.

"And, will Eggman be arrested as well, after the crime he committed, before Sonic got him?" she asked with concern.

"As tempting as that is, I will let Eggman away with it this time. He needs time to heal up, and rest. But here me out, if he even so much as tries again, he will be next." Bradshaw finished.

"OK, well, thank you for your time, Chief. And we hope you achieve your mission, by capturing Sonic." she thanked.

"It was my pleasure, Mam." Bradshaw replied.

"And that has been it for the news of the evening, goodnight." she finished.

Eggman sat there in shock.

"Sonic is wanted for murder? But, it wasn't even him who stabbed me. Sonic was in front of me the whole time. Someone else did it." Eggman thought.

"Sonic is wanted for a murder he didn't commit, and it was all my fault. I knew I wanted to be rid of Sonic, but I never wanted this to happen. And what he said was true. We're both getting a lot older, and more wiser, it is by time I stopped my ways, and change what I should really be doing. Have I been wrong to being evil, this whole time? Have I been trapped behind the darkness for so long, I lost sight on what should matter in life?" Eggman thought, sadly.

All he could do now, was sit on his hospital bed, and look out the window. The sun was still out, but it was slowly setting. Eggman couldn't help, but feel guilty about what he has done. And now Sonic had to suffer for it.

.

(Eggman singing)

Don't turn away

I've prayed you heard these words I've spoken

Dare to believe

Over one more time

.

Then I'll let the

Darkness cover me

Denied everything

Slowly walk away

To breathe again

On my own

(Flashback)

Eggman was only five years old, and he was in the laboratory, with his grandfather, Dr. Gerald Robotnik.

"Grandpa, you have one of the coolest jobs in the world. I want to be a great scientist, just like you one day." young Eggman stated, excitedly.

Gerald couldn't help, but chuckle warmly at Eggman. He picks up Eggman, and placed him on his lap.

"And one day, Ivo, you will be. It takes a lot of hark work, and dedication to become a scientist. And if your heart is set on being one, then chase after that dream. Never let go of it." Gerald told him.

"I will, Grandpa." Eggman stated.

"And promise me one thing, Ivo. No matter what, never use your inventions for evil. You'll later on regret it." Gerald warned him.

"I won't, Grandpa. I promise." he replied

(End of Flashback)

Eggman sat there, also feeling guilty about breaking his promise to Gerald. A sad tear fell from his eye.

"I'm sorry, Grandpa. I broke my promise to you, and invented many things for evil." Eggman sobbed.

.

(Eggman singing)

Carried me away

I need the strength to help me through this

Dare to believe

Then I'll let the

On my own

On my own

On my own

On my own

On my own

.

Eggman placed his head on his hand, and sobbed uncontrollably.

"Why did I become the way I am? Why did I ever wanted world domination? This was never what Grandpa wanted." Eggman sobbed.

While still crying, he then looked out the window again, and saw the sun was nearly gone from the sky.

After that, the sun had finally disappeared from the sky, and the moon was now out. It was now dark outside. Eggman continued to sob uncontrollably, with his head in his hands. So much guilt that he has been feeling has really torn him apart.

All of a sudden, Eggman hears the door open up, and in came a doctor to check on him. Eggman quickly wiped the tears away from his eyes, to make it not look obvious that he's been crying.

"Dr. Eggman, how are you feeling? Great to see that you're awake, and the surgery was a success." The doctor asked.

"Well, I feel in pain, but other than that, I feel fine." Eggman replied.

"That's perfectly natural. I will just inject some morphine into the area where the surgery was, and we will let your visitor in to see you." the doctor mentioned.

"Visitor?" Eggman wondered.

Without saying a word, the doctor just left the room, and another person walked into the room. Eggman was stunned at who this was. The man just shook Eggman's hand, forcefully.

"Good evening, Eggman, my name is C..." he was cut off.

"Chief Richard Bradshaw?" Eggman stated.

"Why, yes. How did you know?" he wondered.

"You were on the news earlier. Bit hard to miss that face." Eggman stated again.

"Oh, that's fair. How are you feeling now?" he asked.

"Well, better, now that the doctor gave me the morphine." Eggman responded.

"That's good to hear. Morphine is the greatest thing ever. Especially for us police officers, because injuries happen with us all the time, and morphine is great in surgery." he mentioned.

"Could you please, stop with the small talk, and get to the point, please?!" Eggman asked, impatiently.

"OK, OK, take it easy there, Ivo. I have come here to ask you about the incident with..." he was cut off again.

"He didn't do it." Eggman told him.

"I beg your pardon?" Bradshaw was confused.

"You heard me. Sonic the Hedgehog is innocent. He did NOT try to murder me. Whatever you saw after I blacked out was not how it happened. I may not remember much after I was stabbed, but I remember what happened before, and during. Sonic was in front of me the whole time, and I was stabbed in the back. So, Sonic is innocent." Eggman told him sternly.

The truth was out, Sonic is proven innocent by the victim, but was that enough to convince him?
