Prim saw an injured child just one foot away from where she was standing. I could save that child, but would it cost my life? She debated whether or not to save the child in her mind. But as she started to decide to walk towards the child, she noticed on top of a building at the end of the street, that there was a rebel shooter. His gun was aimed at something on the ground right where she was standing. She looked down and saw a pod just 4 steps away from where she was standing. Pods were traps the capitol set up in the streets for the rebels. She looked back up and saw a hovercraft dropping something down to the street. When it got closer she saw what was on the parachute. It was a bomb made by BeeTee. She ran as fast as she could to get away from the explosion. Any time she ran into someone, things like, "Sorry" or "My bad!" or "Coming through!" would spill out of her mouth. When she thought she was safe, she sat down on a bench facing another bench on the other side of the trail near the entrance to a park. She heard the explosion from the bomb that would have killed her if she hadn't run away. I'm out of the bomb's radius so it shouldn't hurt me. She kept thinking about how the child she left there was probably now dead. At least he's been put out of his pain and misery, but I haven't. Before Prim knew what was happening, a bench across the trail ran right into her bent knees. Her last thought was, How? I was out of the bomb's radius! Maybe I wasn't fully out of the radius of the bomb? Before she blacked out, she saw a muddy yellow coat of fur coming up to her face.
Prim woke up to a blinding bright white-hot light. "What happened? She asked as she sat up. "Well, you blacked out after a bench hit you in the knees when the bomb exploded. The people responsible for that bomb will be fully pardoned because they didn't know you were going to be there at the moment the bomb was dropped." A doctor told her as she grabbed a stick near the table. "How many days did I lose to this?" Prim asked, fearing what the answer would be. "4 days." The doctor responded as she grabbed a clipboard and put a paper on it. She grabbed a pen and clipped it onto the clipboard. "4 days?!" Prim exclaimed as she tried to stand up. Her knees felt wobbly and she started to shake. "Here. Use this stick to stay upright." The doctor told her and handed her the stick from the table. Prim took the stick and leaned on the stick so she could stay up-right. "What happened in those 4 days?" Prim asked again, scared about what the answer would be. "Well, Snow stole Buttercup and took all your medical supplies after you blacked out. He escaped the capitol before we could grab him. He only has your mom or buttercup to use against you." The doctor responded not trying to even lie about it. "What about my sister Katniss?" She asked. Either she forgot to mention Katniss as a source or...No. Prim forced herself to believe the first option, not the second one...
(two years later)
Prim looked out over the ocean, her hair whipping the sides of her face as she slid her hands over the cool, glass railing. The ocean was beautiful, though she knew underneath the surface lay the suffocating depths and deadly rocks the ocean hid below. Her gaze traveled up the rocky shore when from behind, she felt the swipe of fur on her leg. She turned to find Buttercup, the cat that survived it all standing behind her with expectant eyes. She sighed, realizing her moment of peace wouldn't last long if Buttercup didn't get fed. "Alright. Hold on. I'll feed you some food." Prim said as she walked over to the door and pulled it open. The house she bought was pretty. She had a great view of the ocean. She walked over to the laundry room, her hair shining in the bright lights. Buttercup followed Prim as she grabbed the kibble bag and poured some kibble into his food bowl. "Meow." Buttercup mewed happily as he started to eat the food. "Well, I better get some food for myself. I didn't pay attention to the time." She said to herself as she walked back to the common area. She opened the right fridge door and grabbed some leftover chicken. Once Prim started the microwave, She looked up at the clock and noticed that it was already 1:00 pm. She walked over to the bookshelf and grabbed her family's scrapbook. It survived so much and will survive so much more. Something deadly was coming to disrupt the peace that the town of Port Snow. Something deadly that had a goal and a target. Its target was Prim. Prim didn't think anything bad would happen to her anymore after the war. But she was in for a big surprise.
"So, what was your plan April?" Prim asked her new friend April. April nodded her head enthusiastically, her pink hair swinging with each nod. "My plan was to dress up Buttercup and he can have the role of being the King's cat," April said, pushing a strand of hair out of her face. "Meow!" Buttercup mewed hating how they were talking about him being a King's pet. He hated it when Prim didn't listen to him or didn't give him enough pets, rubs, or scratches. "Well, I would love for Buttercup to be in a play but I don't think he likes being dressed up." Prim said as she picked him up and scratched his head. He purred affectionately. Before April was about to respond, a small cheerful, and high-pitched voice said, "Boo!" April jumped up and then once she recovers from the shock, turned around and saw who it was. "What have I told you about scaring me?" She asked the little kid who had been behind her. "Ugh! You don't need to tell me this all over again! Who's your friend?" The girl asked quickly. Prim laughed. The girl reminded her what she was like when she was younger. "My name's Prim. What's yours?" Prim asked the young girl kindly. "My name's Ava." she responded as she took her flip-flops off. "You can play in the water. DON'T GO ABOVE KNEE HEIGHT!" April said as Ava started towards the water. Prim laughed as she watched Ava splash around in the ocean water. Buttercup jumped down from Prim and sat down on a clump of sand and licked himself. He watched Ava as she had fun in the water. "Anyways, we don't have to dress him up. We can still get him into the play right?" April resumed their conversation. "I don't know. Buttercup would have to allow us to let him go on a stage in front of a whole audience." Prim responded as she looked back at April. Prim could tell that April just wanted to find an actor for the role of the King's pet soon so she could start the play practices. "Alright. If he isn't willing to do it then we can find someone else. Is that fair?" she asked, pushing a strand of her pink hair out of her face. "Hey, where did you get your hair dyed at?" Prim asked April, trying to change the subject. "Oh. I got it dyed at Tyler and Mack's." April responded enthusiastically. "Tyler and Mack's? I've never heard of that place. Can you show me it sometime?" Prim asked as she grabbed a few strands of her blonde hair and added, "Blonde hair can be boring. I want a color more like yours." "I can show you it now if you want! Tyler and Mack's is a new store but the owners of the store are my other besties!" April said as she grabbed her bag from the sand and put the straps on her shoulders. "Ava! Come on. Were going to Tyler and Mack's!" April shouted to Ava so she could be heard over the waves. "It's about time to go to. The tide's already starting to come in." Prim said as she looked over at Buttercup and saw his face start to turn into that same face she saw on him when they had to go into the bunkers in district 13. As the group walked into town, Prim felt a cold shiver go down her spine.
