Chapter 19: A Day in the Life Pt. 1
Asta was a morning person.
He rolled out of bed with the clock, gifted to him by Miss Acier, since there was technically no day or night in the Heroes' Afterlife, it was the easiest way to keep track. By nature of growing up in a farming town and working as a Magic Knight and later as the Wizard King, he had always been an early-to-rise guy. He grabbed his work clothes and gently walked out of his room to the bathroom. As Izuku was not a morning person, Asta never had to worry about waking up the Hero when Asta got ready.
Once he was cleaned, refreshed, and dressed, Asta headed downstairs to the kitchen. Breakfast often was the lightest meal of the day, but Asta always made sure to make some for Izuku for when he woke up. Today's choice included cranberry muffins, omelets, and coffee. Coffee and cranberries were something Asta never had before dying, but it came in the shipment at the towns and Izuku seemed to like it.
After Asta ate his quick breakfast, he headed out to check on his fields. According to Goku, the fields were unlikely to fail due to the strange nature of the Afterlife, but Asta wanted those tatoes. He had so many ideas to make with them. Asta was certain that Izuku would enjoy them too.
In his field, he inspected the tato plants, the parts that were visible above ground had a specific look if they went bad. Asta had to pull the bad ones, but there were none in this check-up. He suspected that Goku's theory was correct.
He spent the rest of the morning on the smaller part of the field that he was gonna have for carrots, beets, and onions.
Asta's stomach rumbled when he was hungry for lunch, so he stopped working and headed back inside the house. He made sure to take off his work boots in the mudroom, before he walked inside the living room. Asta found Izuku at the coffee table, head buried in books, muttering and scribbling away. Izuku's dirty breakfast dishes were still nearby.
"What do you want for lunch," asked Asta, startling Izuku out of his muttering and scribbling.
"Whatever is fine," said Izuku. "How's the plants going?"
"Good. Almost ready for the other stuff," said Asta. "How's the research?"
"Maddening," said Izuku, "but fun." Izuku stood up and stretched. "I'll help with lunch."
"That might be the best kind of fun," said Asta, cheerfully.
They went to the kitchen and made baked tatoes with bacon, chives, and sour cream. Lunch time usually went on for an hour as the conversation between Asta and Izuku were easy and tended to drag on. Today, Izuku and Asta were speaking about where the Heroes' Afterlife supplies came from and Izuku had theories.
"Like what god is in charge of buying supplies for thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dead heroes," said Izuku.
"Everyone has a purpose. But why are you assuming it's a god? What if it's other heroes? Or offerings to the dead from the multiverse," asked Asta. He had too much to do with other dimensions when dealing with the devils. The devil in his grimoire and the devils he faced in battle came from another realm.
"Offerings to the dead! That might be it! But that's a lot of food," said Izuku, humming. "But then again, there's a lot of heroes here…" Izuku jumped up. "I know! I have to talk to Gintoki and the others that tried to find out a way out of here…" He rushed to the living room, leaving Asta laughing to himself.
"Guess he had an idea," said Asta, shaking his head.
