Chapter 20: A Day in the Life Pt. 2

Unlike Asta, Izuku wasn't a morning person. He'd get up when he had to, but he preferred late nights and waking up later. This allowed him to stay out of Asta's way in the morning and gave Izuku peace and quiet he needed when he woke up later. Asta always kindly left breakfast, which was more like brunch for Izuku by the time he got out of bed.

While Asta went back outside for his afternoon work, Izuku went back to the books with his new theories. He always had a great thirst for knowledge, but when he was alive, it had been about heroes and villains. Now, Izuku focused himself on another topic while in this afterlife, and that was how this Afterlife worked.

Izuku knew that he wasn't gonna sit still for long. He didn't mind having Aozora as a home base, but Izuku wanted to talk to the other heroes and find out what they knew. He knew from Tsuna that there were people who tried to discover where supplies, clothing and so forth came from and how to get out of here, but they always got transported back to town before they found anything.

He was playing a dangerous game. But his curiosity always got the best of him.

Izuku jotted down some names. Asking awkward and maybe intrusive questions of the other heroes here might not go over well, but if he was able to piece together the story, it might make him feel better. Izuku knew that death was irreversible, at least in his world, but it'd be worth it.

"Have you been muttering since lunch," asked Asta.

Izuku blinked a few times. "Ahh, oops."

Asta chuckled. "Come on. Let's make dinner."

"Well, it's not wild animals, since there's none here, so someone is stealing," said Izuku, as he stood in the barn with Asta. The barn door had been pried open. There was really no reason to lock it but it was a habit from Asta's younger years to protect the harvest from wild animals and possible thieves. Asta recently harvested the tatoes, having several barrels worth of the root vegetable. "Which is weird since everyone here are heroes."

"Sometimes, heroes do steal," said Asta, countering. "Depends on their circumstances. Do you think it's that boy Morro?"

Izuku sighed. "Perhaps?"

"It's not like he took a lot," said Asta. "I wouldn't have minded giving him some. I'm not exactly farming for money. Just bartering. And personal joy."

Rubbing his chin in thought, Izuku said, "Well, I suppose it's no big deal."

"He's bound to slip up," said Asta. "But we can't force help on him."

It had been several months, as far as Izuku could tell, and things were going swimmingly well at Aozora Farm. Izuku did venture out at least once a week to visit the towns. He also made sure that he visited Shinsou to make sure that his old friend adapted to the Afterlife nicely. Shinsou was doing well enough.

Well enough to tease me about my soft spot for loud, heroic blonds, Izuku thought to himself as he and Asta went back inside their house. It was raining today, so Asta wasn't working in the field. Root vegetables weren't too delicate, so long as they didn't get a fungus.

Inside, the duo settled in the living room. They had been in the middle of eating some afternoon snacks when Asta jumped up and sensed an unusual ki near their house. They went to investigate together, as neither had their powers but remembered how to fight. Perhaps, they were both naturally jumpy having spent much of their lives fighting against impossible enemies.

"Well, that was the most eventful thing to happen in a while," said Asta.

Asta had been helping Izuku by being his sounding board for theories and ideas, since it was raining.

But honestly, Izuku and Asta were both dreadfully bored. Asta liked farming. Izuku liked research and writing. But Asta was a Magic Knight and Izuku was a Pro-Hero in their hearts and they can't forget yet. It's not even been four years since they died on their respective worlds.

"Yeah," said Izuku. "I hope the kid is okay."

"He'll be fine," said Asta.

"I think I'm gonna go to town and visit Mr. Ichigo again and let him know," said Izuku.

"Ahhh, you're getting restless."

"Like you're not?"

"Eh? It's not so bad," said Asta, shrugging.

Izuku shook his head. "You can come with me?"

"Nah, I'll stay here. I've got to harvest the carrots, onions, and the other stuff," said Asta. "And plant more tatoes."

"You got letters for me to bring," said Izuku.

"Yeah. Lord Lumiere and Miss Acier," said Asta. "Say hi to everyone for me."

"I will. I'll leave when the rain stops," said Izuku.

"Should be two more days of rain," said Asta.

Izuku sighed. "Yeah, I know."

Notes:

You may or may not have noticed that I changed the chapter count. You won't be getting less, it's just the chapters will become longer. I have a grand plan to finish all my current WIP. This story I'll finish by Nov, if my estimates are correct

Next month you'll be getting one chapter instead of two.

Let me know what you think!
