Chapter Sixteen.
Pancake Talk.
February 17th 2015, Ponyville, Equestria. 07:00 am.
Twilight awoke to the smell of food cooking in the kitchen, she slowly sat up in her bed as the sun barely poked above the horizon, "Oh Spike. That's smells delicious." She said, pulling off the covers.
"You're welcome Twilight..." She heard beside her, she looked over to see a sleeping Spike next to her. Twilight raised an eyebrow in confusion, she quickly got out of bed and trotted to the door.
"Hmmm. Pastel Pen is probably up and making her breakfast, I'll go and join her, no point trying to get to sleep now." The alicorn whispered to herself, thinking of her former student and best friend. Twilight trotted out the door, following the inviting oder but was shocked when she saw Pastel Pen leaving her own room, yawning.
"Morning Twilight..." Pastel Pen stretched, she was a unicorn, "I smell Spike cooking breakfast already. It smells great." She said, yawning some more in the process.
"Spike's still asleep, i thought it was you." Twilight replied, this confused Pastel.
"If Spike is asleep and i just woke up, then who's cooking?" Pastel questioned, placing a hoof to her chin, "Come, let's go see who this cook is." Pastel trotted ahead.
As the pair got closer to the kitchen, they began to hear what sounded like music and someone singing alone.
"Is that... Cadence?" Twilight leant out into the doorway, listening to the singing.
"Never gonna give you up! Never gonna let you down! Duh duh duh duuuh duh duuuuh!" The voice sang.
"Yep, that's Cadence." Twilight whispered, looking at Pastel, "She always sings that stupid song! I'm sick of it!" Twilight raised her voice as the singing stopped but the music continued to play.
"Um Twilight, the singing stopped." Pastel said as both she and Twilight felt something rushing past them in the shadowy darkness of the hallway.
"Rick Astley is a god!" Cadence bellowed from behind them, causing the two mares to hold each other and scream, Cadence fell into fits of laughter. "You two should see your faces! Oh my god!" She fell on her back and laughed harder. "I've never laughed this hard in my life!" She continued to throw fits of laughter on the floor.
"Cadence. That wasn't funny!" Twilight screamed, trembling slightly as she still clung to Pastel Pen
"Oh, lighten up Twily. I'm just having fun." Cadence giggled out loud before quickly placing her hooves on her head as a sharp pain ran up her spine into the brain, "Ouch! Sugar crash. I knew I shouldn't of added lots of sugar to those frosted chocolate puffs." She grunted as a huge headache hit her like a freight train.
"Are you ok?" Pastel asked, gently tapping Cadence's leg as the empress wriggled around on the floor.
"Just give me a minute." Cadence replied, feeling the sharp pain beginning to wear off.
"Anyway, why are you up this early?" Twilight questioned her former foal sitter, "I expected you to have a lay in, especially given what happened yesterday." She continued, Cadence rolled over and stood back up.
"I've been up since 4 am, i just couldn't sleep any longer, i had all these things rushing through my head." Cadence blurted out all at once before sniffing the air, "Do you smell burning... OH SHIT! THE PANCAKES!" Cadence raced towards the kitchen as fast as her wings could manage.
Cadence's horn lit up as she moved the frying pan off of the stove, she grabbed a spatula and gently pried the pancake off the bottom of the frying pan and flipped it over, the side now facing up was partly burnt.
"That'll be my one then." Cadence placed the pan back onto the stove, turning the heat down in the process.
"Wow Cadence, that smells delicious." Pastel drooled, pulling a chair out and sat at the table and as Twilight followed her into the kitchen.
"Aww, thank you Pastel." Cadence replied, turning off her music before turning to face Pastel, "It's a recipe my brother taught me." Cadence placed a large stack of pancakes on the table, "Take as many as you want, i went overboard with the amount i cooked." She gestured to the 3 stacks of 20 pancakes behind her. Pastel and Twilight's horns lit up as each took a desired amount, "Sorry if they are a bit cold by now, i didn't know when you'd be up." Cadence pouted slightly before turning around and putting the last of the batter into an adjacent frying pan.
"So... David is your brother correct?" Pastel asked between bites, Cadence nodded, "How does that work, did your parents adopt him or something?" She added, Cadence simply giggled.
"Nope." Cadence chirped, "His family found me and raise me as their own. Simple as that really." Cadence sat down at the table with her own pancakes, Twilight sweated slightly and took a hard gulp, knowing all too well what Cadence and her brother really got up too.
"So then, what was it like to grow up with a human family?" Pastel asked Cadence, taking another bite from a pancake, Twilight got up from her seat and over to the sink and got herself a cup of water, "What did you and your brother get up to?" Pastel asked, Twilight spat out her drink, coughing hard in the process.
"You ok Twilight?" Cadence quickly shot out of her chair when she heard Twilight cough sharply, followed by a wheeze escaping the purple alicorn's lips.
"I fine... I think i just swallowed my drink too quickly..." Twilight wheezed as her horn lit up, cleaning up the water she spat out.
"Are you sure Twilight, that cough didn't sound to healthy." Cadence gently patted Twilight's back as she coughed some more.
"I'm... Fine..." Twilight panted heavily as she walked back over to the table and gently sat back down, Cadence doing the same.
"Um, sorry, Pastel. What was your question?" Cadence asked, while cutting one of her pancakes into easy to chew pieces.
"Oh, i was just asking what it was like growing up with your brother, I'm assume you had a similar relationship to that of me and brother, you know, like fighting all the time." Pastel took another bit from her pancake.
"Oh, well kind of, we did have the odd argument, who didn't?" Cadence said taking a sip of coffee, "But in our case, we argued over what we were going to eat Friday nights, as both our parents would be at work and our sister would be having a sleep over at her friend's house. These arguments were mostly over stuff like what we wanted to eat, David would want pizza or kebab while i would want curry or stir fry." Cadence paused to take another bite from her pancake, "But we'd nearly always find a middle ground, say if he wanted a kebab and i wanted curry, he'd go down to the kebab shop and get me chip with curry sauce, and let me tell you, chip shop curry is great if you have a chesty cough or a sore throat, that shit will sort that out, believe me on that." Cadence finished, taking the last bite of her pancake.
"Wouldn't make his journey longer? Going to a chip shop then to a kebab shop" Pastel took a mouthful of orange juice from her glass.
"No, chip shops sold kebab. Yes, i know that its name sounds like it only sells one thing but they really don't. If i remember correctly, they'd sell kebab, burgers, pies, fish and chips and, in some places, southern fried chicken." Cadence calmly responded, getting up from her chair and walking over to the sink, she began washing her plate.
"Cadence, forgive me for asking, but did you ever eat meat while you were living with humans?" Twilight finally spoke, drinking some juice.
"I did try it once, why?" Cadence replied, drying the plate off with a towel.
"What did it taste like?" Twilight added, taking a bite from her pancake, as she did so, it felt like an explosion of flavour in her mouth.
"It... Tasted like rubber." Cadence cringed slightly, remembering the foul taste in her mouth, "It's something i would not like to eat again." She added, taking a drink of ice-cold water from the tap, trying to wash the taste of rubber out of her mouth.
"Did you and your brother ever fight over anything else?" Pastel asked, leaving the table and walking over to the sink.
"Well, as I said, we did have the odd argument, but it was mostly just small things like, 'Who's been in my room' or 'Who took my books' you know, stuff like that but..." Cadence paused, "It all changed a week after my fifteenth birthday." she continued, Twilight took another hard gulp.
"Why? What happened?" Pastel put her plate in the sink and began cleaning it, "Did he take money from you or something?" She added.
"Oh, he took something alright~" Cadence said, biting her lip in the process, slightly crossing her hind legs, "But, i also took something from him as well~" She crossed her legs fully, Pastel noticed them and look at her with confusion.
"I don't understand. What did he take from you?" Pastel raised an eyebrow, "And what did you take from him?" She added, drying off the plate. Cadence bit her lip again as she sat back down at the table.
"Remember when i said everything changed a week after my 15th birthday?" Cadence looked out the side of her eye, Pastel nodded, "Well... I went into heat and David helped me stop it, we took each other's virginities." Pastel gave her a look a confusion. "To put it bluntly, we fucked each other." Cadence found her hoof slowly sliding down to her thighs.
"YOU DID WHAT?!" The three looked over in surprise to see Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Flurry Heart, Pinkie Pie, Applejack and Fluttershy standing in the kitchen doorway, all with faces showing a mix of disgust and shock.
"Oh shit." Cadence blushed.
"You slept with you brother?!" Applejack shouted with disgust in her tone of voice, "Why would you do that?! How could you do that?!" The farm pony snarled like a lion about to attack.
"I have to agree with Applejack on this one." Rarity added, pointing a hoof at Cadence, "I hope to Celestia it was a onetime thing." the blue unicorn continued to point at the pink alicorn.
"It wasn't just a onetime deal." Cadence coldly replied, getting a gasp from Rarity, "We did it just shy of 17 months. From August 1st, 1989 to December 28th, 1990." The alicorn continued, looking at the group out the corner of her eye. Rarity's jaw nearly hit the floor.
"Mom, what are you saying?" Flurry Heart slowly approached her mother, "Are you saying that you and my uncle were... in love?" She added, Cadence slowly nodded, Flurry's ears fell flat against her head.
"Flurry, I didn't want you to find out like this." Cadence spoke with sorrow as she approached her daughter, placing a hoof under her chin, only for Flurry to slap the hoof away.
"I don't want to talk to you." Flurry turned away from her mother, "Leave me alone!" Flurry barked before running from the kitchen, Pinkie and Rainbow gave chase.
"Flurry! Come back!" Cadence was about to chase after her daughter, but found her exit blocked by a enraged Applejack and a furious Rarity, "Let me through!" She shouted, Applejack refused to budge, "Let. Me. Through." Cadence's horn let up as she prepared to fight her way through.
"WAIT!" Fluttershy shouted, placing herself between Cadence and Applejack, "Before we all rip each other's heads off, let Cadence explain reasons I'm sure she had for letting her brother rut her." The butter yellow Pegasus bellowed, stunning both Cadence and Applejack, "Now, I'm going to give Cadence the benefit of a doubt and believe her reasoning was justified. Got it? Don't make be slams your head together." She held her hoof up like was about to punch the living snot out of the pair.
"I... um..." Was the only thing Applejack would say, "W-why don't w-we all sit down?" She stuttered, clearing scared of Fluttershy. Rarity, Applejack, Fluttershy and Cadence all sat down at the table.
"Good!" Fluttershy clapped her hooves, "You lot talk it over while i make us some tea." The butter Pegasus added calmly.
Cadence, Applejack and Rarity all awkwardly stared at each other, Pastel Pen coughed.
"So.." Applejack broke the silence, "Why did you do it?" Cadence looked up at her, "Why did you sleep with your brother?" Applejack crossed her front hooves.
"Well..." Cadence looking back down at the oak table, "I was... I heat." This got an 'Oh' reaction from before AJ and Rarity,
"But... why him?" Rarity responded, Cadence continued to look down in shame, both her ears laid flat against her skull.
"I guess it was because i trusted him, he was my only friend growing up." Cadence's lips quivered, "I never had friends when i was growing up, he was always there for me, he was my shoulder to cry on when i was upset, he always listened to what i had to say, even if it was nonsense." Cadence fought back the tears that were beginning to form at the corners of her eyes.
"Wait? You didn't have friends?" Pastel asked with concern, "But, you're you! Everyone loves you!" Cadence looked at her, wiping away a stray tear.
"I was too different from all the kids at school, they'd call me names like 'freak of nature', 'God's failed experiment', 'Alien' the list goes on." Cadence sobbed slightly, "I never even dated anyone. David was my first friend, and in a way, my first boyfriend." Cadence hid her face into to her wings, sobbing louder. Rarity moved around to her and wrapped her hoof around her.
"There there dearie, everything is alright. We understand your reasons. Don't we AJ?" Rarity's words stunned Applejack to the core.
"Y-yes!" AJ quickly responded.
Rarity's horn lit up as she placed a handkerchief to Cadence's face, "Now now dearie, you mustn't make your feathers wet." Cadence opened a gap between her flight feathers, allowing the blue unicorn to see her puffy red eyes below.
"You don't even know the half of it." Came Cadence's muffled voice from under all the feathers, followed by another sob.
"Then tell us, we're your friends, anything you say, you can say it to us." Rarity soothed the crying alicorn.
"Ok." Said the muffled voice, " He... Got me pregnant!" She sobbed out loud, "And she was a stillborn!" She screamed into her feathers, her feathers going a dark pink as she continued to cry into them.
"Hold up." Pastel said, moving closer to the crying alicorn, "Your brother got you knocked up?" Pastel raised an eyebrow, Cadence nodded her head, "Did he know you were pregnant by chance?" She added, this caused Cadence to scream again.
"No!" She wept into her wings, her throat began to feel sore everything she screamed.
"Did you ever tell him?" Pastel asked, this made Cadence scream once more.
"No! I never told him! I was too ashamed of myself to tell him!" Her muffled voice said in reply, "I never even had the chance to tell even if i wanted to!" She shouted through her sore throat.
"What do you mean dearie?" Rarity calmly spoke, Cadence sighed and removed her soaked wings from her face.
"Our family found out about us fucking, Dad..." Cadence paused, gulping hard, her throat felt like sandpaper, "Dad beat David within an inch of his life. He probably would have killed him had i not stepped him. Then you had the court case, see, as i was 15 when me and David started, i was under the age of consent and as such, it was seen as statutory rape. I testified saying it that i wanted it, hell, i even showed them my memory from that day, clearly showing them that i was asking him. While they did give him the not guilty verdict, Mom had a restraining order put on him stating he wasn't allowed within a mile of me or the family. I never saw him again. I wrote to him for a few months but stopped after i got no replies, i assume the letters were intercepted before reaching him and destroyed." Cadence looked down at the floor, tears trickling down her cheeks, Rarity gently patted her back in comfort, "I'd do anything to go back in time and bring him to Equestria with me, we would've lived out the life we had planned together before i became an alicorn. I'd give up my alicorn status to do so." Cadence clamped her eyes shut, fighting back more tears. "Yes, i know i sound like I'm being selfish and not thinking about what i have now, it's just that i missed him so much." She wiped away her tears and looked up at everyone.
"Are you ever going to tell him? About the baby i mean." Fluttershy said, placing down some tea cups. Cadence's horn weakly lit up, her aura embracing the lily pink cup, she brought it to her face and gently took a sip of the hot liquid.
"I want to tell him about her. But I'm scared of what he'd might say." Cadence put the cup back down, looking at her reflection in the liquid, "I'm scared." She added, sighing deeply, she got up from the table and walked over to the sink. She turned the tap on and splashed water into her face, washing the tear stains.
"Cadence, you have to tell him, he has a right to know about the baby." Applejack calmly responded, taking a sip from her tea-cup.
"Shooting Star." Cadence looked down at her locket, "Her name was Shooting Star, she was a beautiful Pegasus, she looked like me but with his eyes." She opened the locket, looking at the picture of her holding Shooting Star. Cadence looked up and smiled, "I'm telling him."
"That a girl!" Pastel cheered, whistling in the process, Cadence turned around.
"Thank you all for listening to me, and for understanding." Cadence smiled, unfolding her wings and scooping up Pastel, Twilight, Fluttershy Applejack and Rarity into a hug, "Now, to tell David... If i can find his room." Cadence added.
"He isn't in bed." Fluttershy wheezed, struggling to escape the crushing hug, "Don't you remember? He said he was going to get up early to help Dusty clean out that old steam locomotive they found." She escaped the hug and panted sharply.
"Oh." Cadence frowned, release the other three mares from her death like hug, "Off to the train yard then." She chirped, sprinting out the doorway.
