A/N Prompt #4 for Fictober

"All right, fine, I give up." Jack threw his pen down onto his desk.

Phryne looked at him with astonishment. "What?"

He spread his hands, "I can't be bothered arguing with you today"

"Jack..." her eyes looked disappointed, "that's no fun."

"Fun?"

"I was just gearing up for a fight. Now you've taken all the air out of me. I feel quite deflated," Phryne pouted.

"Are you saying you argue with me just for the sake of it?"

"Well, I…"

Jack continued, not giving her time to answer. "Am I a cure for your boredom Miss Fisher?"

"Oh don't be like that Jack, You know as well as I do that investigations can be tedious, dull and boring. I just like to liven things up a bit," She shrugged nonchalantly.

Jack rolled his eyes and glared at her.

"Come on, You've got to admit that you enjoy your job much more when I'm around."

"…Well I suppose when you put it like that, Yes…" he admitted with some reluctance.

"See."

"But if you ever tell the commissioner I said that, I'll deny it." His mouth twitched with the hint of a smile.

"My lips are sealed."

Jack looked at the perfect crimson lips in question, and for a moment his mind entertained the idea of unsealing those lips with his own. He forced his eyes back up to meet hers. "So what did you want to argue with me about in this case Miss Fisher?"

Phryne smiled. All was right in her world again.
