IMPORTANT:
this was supposed a song fic but since I'm not allowed to use lyrics even if I put a disclaimer probably it will be sh*t with no sense, just imagine the lyrics of the songs, pretending the character is singing it okay?
But since no one is going to like this story, I don't even know why I'm bothering about.

Work Text:True Colors
There is only one thing that makes sense in a situation like that: sleep.
After all, the next day foresees that he and all his Companions will finally go to David's house, so it is advisable to be well rested and full of energy.
However, the Doctor never liked advisable things.
It would be so easy to put his head back on the pillow again, close his eyes and let sleep claim him again.
But if the Doctor does not already like advisable things, he likes the easy ones even less!
And to think that he would also have an excellent reason to stay in bed: a reason with messy straw-colored hair, a rather heated temperament, a level of sanity that is not exactly comforting and sudden mood swings, which at least when he sleeps are sedated, unless that he does not start talking in his sleep.
One of the things Ten loves most about Barty is that, except when he is too restless in his sleep and keeps moving multiple times, Barty tends to fall asleep and stay in the position the Doctor placed him in.
He is naked for a start, just like the Doctor is, but that is part of the rule that the Time Lord established.
Their bodies are half covered by a sheet, the legs are intertwined, one hand is loosely placed on the side of the Doctor, the other arm stretched along the leg, the head is buried in his chest, that area of the his sensitive skin slightly moistened every time his tongue pops out of his lips, especially when he dreams of something.
The Doctor has begun to distinguish when he is having a pleasant dream and when it's a nightmare depending on how and how much he moves his tongue and in the second case, he hugs him closer, massaging his back, until the Death Eater calms down.
This is not the case, Barty seems to be sleeping peacefully, a dreamless sleep.
The Doctor doesn't need a watch to know it's about four in the morning.
And that a very rare dawn in its beauty is about to take place in a very specific place he only seems to know.
And that's when he makes his decision.
"Psst, Barty," he whispers, but the volume of his voice is too low for him to hear. "Barty," he tries to raise his voice a little, squeezing him lightly by the shoulders.
"Mmm ..." Barty mumbles happily, without opening his eyes, clinging closer to him.
Tender, sure, but that's not what Ten needs. He has to change his strategy.
"Help, someone's attacking me!" he screams frightened, with sudden movements.
"I'll save you, my Lord!" Barty exclaims, jumping out of bed, not yet fully awake, heedless of his total nakedness, as he casts Avada Kedavra haphazardly into the darkness of the room, lethal green sparks that fortunately disappear into the air, as there are no targets to hit.
"Barty, Barty, calm down." The Doctor immediately walks towards him.
"But, my Doctor, you are not in danger ... and you are naked!" mumbles the Dark Wizard, trying to make up his mind about what is happening.
"As are you. We were asleep, I wanted to wake you up, but you didn't wake up and… so I thought I'd play a little trick on you… "
" Even when I first met you you did that little trick on me about a prison worse than Azkaban… "Barty recalls.
"Of course I didn't expect you to react so impulsively ... what if there were some other Companions here?"
"But there was no one else, wasn't there? So why should you give yourself too much torment? " shrugs the Death Eater.
"Actually what I want to do, now that you're awake, has to do a little with our first meeting." Ten announces him.
"Really? What do you have in mind, my Doctor? " Barty lights up with enthusiasm.
"Ah-ah-ah, let's get dressed first." the other leads him to the bathroom.
Once ready, Ten wearing his beloved brown pinstripe suit, Barty choosing dark jeans and an unusual white shirt he found in the TARDIS wardrobe, the Doctor opens the door to their room recommending his beloved to be as quiet as possible.
"It's very late, or still very early, depending on how you want to consider it," the Doctor rants, albeit in a low voice, as he approaches the console. "And we don't want to wake others up. Got it, Sexy? " he continues, this time also recommending himself to the TARDIS, which seems to satisfy him.
"Do you remember what it was like when it was just you and me, Barty? It lasted too short. Would you like to do it again? " the Doctor suggests to him.
"Do you want to get rid of all the others?" Barty asks, confused.
"No really, nothing like that, I just want to share a little trip with you alone, taking advantage of the fact that everyone else is sleeping ... do you like this idea?"
In response, Barty jumps on the Doctor's neck, giving him a sound kiss on his lips.
"You and me alone somewhere in the universe? Regardless of where you want to take me, I will love it. " he approves, enthusiastic, his eyes sparkling with joy and curiosity.
The Doctor smiles at him with complicity and without anticipating anything he sets the coordinates of the TARDIS, which proves to be rather collaborative, maybe because she is sure that his beloved Singy remains there with her.
It almost seems as if the TARDIS is putting more effort into landing more docilely than usual and not waking anyone else up.
The Doctor throws open the doors and invites Barty to step forward.
"Please, Barty, after you,"
Barty enters that planet unknown to him, full of expectations, which, however, are disappointed with each step he takes.
That planet is gray and desolate, there seems to be only rocks all around, maybe not even flora, fauna or anything edible, which is why it must be so deserted.
- It seems to me more a punishment than a reward to be here, maybe I did something I shouldn't have and he wants to leave me here? Maybe it's the Killing Curse I tried to cast earlier?- the Death Eater begins to get alarmed.
While he is lost in his pessimistic thoughts, he feels two arms lovingly encircling him from behind and he knows very well who they belong to.
To the only living being present on that planet besides him.
-Well, it's not the attitude of someone who wants to abandon me ...- the Dark Wizard mulls, embracing in turn the arms that surround him.
"Do you like here?" the Doctor asks him, his nose touching the back of his neck.
"Oh yes, my Lord, it's beautiful!" he replies as a conditioned reflex.
The Doctor bursts out laughing, placing himself in front of him.
"Oh come on, Barty, look around: there's nothing here, just rocks and greyness," he points out, with sweeping gestures of his arms. "You can also afford to be honest."
"If I have to say the truth I expected better ..." the Death Eater finds the courage to admit, making his partner smile.
"I know, but for the best you will have to wait just, just a minute." he informs him, this time checking his watch. "Come on, let's sit down."
They take their places on smooth rocks overlooking a deep crater and wait.
Barty doesn't even know what they're waiting for.
And then it happens.
At first all the sky around them from the initial gray becomes all white.
"Oooh .." Barty lets out a surprised verse.
"And you haven't seen anything yet." Ten smiles at him, hugging him. "Welcome to PantonDawn, probably the most boring planet that can exist, except for its sunrises that encompass all the colors of the Universe, even those you've never seen." he reveals him, while the sky is tinged with a very pale yellow which will then give way to powder pink.
"My Doctor, I've never seen anything like it, it's like a Color Varia that never ends," Barty comments ecstatically, resting his head on his shoulder to better admire the view.
"Well, it's not really endless: the sunrise on PantomDawn lasts about half an hour, then it falls back into its usual boredom, but, don't worry, I'm only interested in this half hour." the Doctor winks at him.
"I don't understand, such a show and no one lives there? Everyone should know about this place, "mutters Barty.
"Naaah, do you have the slightest idea of how tourism would ruin it?" Ten waves a hand in front of his face, looking annoyed. "Much better that it remains a small treasure known only to a few ones. You know, I could have shared it very well with Kevin, the two Peters and all the others, but ... I wanted something that was ours alone. " he confesses, while before their eyes the sky is tinged first with indigo, then with cobalt blue, and finally with amethyst violet.
"Something only ours." Barty repeats tenderly, intertwining his hands with his.
They remain like that, in dutiful silence, for a few minutes, while the sky shows them every variety of colors, even those that Barty does not think he has ever seen in his life.
Green in particular, from the most imperceptible to the most intense shade, from the most opaque to the brightest tones, has never seemed more beautiful to him.
"I'm sure I've seen your colors, too." the Time Lord interrupts the silence.
"Those of my House?" the Dark Wizard frowns.
Ten smiles, shaking his head.
"Those of your soul."
Barty does not know what to say and it's Ten who takes up the discussion.
"I know what the choices you had to make had done to you, what you had to go through, who you chose to be. In spite of everything, they are just a little faded, but I still see the beautiful things inside you, "
"Oh, my Doctor, it's you who brings back those colors, by now I was convinced that I only had darkness. " Barty throws his arms around his neck Barty, deeply touched, then kisses him and in the kiss Ten can taste the salt of his tears.
"If you still know how to feel emotions like this, my love, it means that those colors are more than intact." the Doctor smiles, equally moved, as he kisses him.
Usually people kiss with their eyes closed, to better immerse themselves in the sensations of that moment, but when you have a sky like this in front of you you can't help but open them to enjoy the enchantment of shades, gradations and tones that blend into one and another one again.
"You know, Barty, if I were Singy and I could sing my emotions, you could hear guitar and bongo, which is a percussion instrument, music playing, ... and I would sing you a Muggle song that would fit perfectly on you." Ten whispers.
"Can we pretend you're Singy? Even if we can't hear music around… sing for me, my Doctor, "the Death Eater pleads.
Ten needs no further prodding.
"xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"
The Doctor started singing, stroking his face, looking deeply into those eyes that have long been sad, like his own eyes.
Barty listens to him in respectful silence.
His Second Dark Lord is singing for him, in a silky voice, very in tune and with a great sense of rhythm.
-Who knows if I can sing like that too. Indeed, no, who knows if I can sing.- Barty can not help but wonder, while not a word escapes his attention.
He feels as if the Doctor is reading inside him, Ten has grasped every sensation, every sense of bewilderment, when Barty was supported only by his devotion and the strong desire to please his Dark Lord, the First one.
"xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
"
Ten reaffirms the concept, how he manages yet to see the authentic brilliance of that rough diamond obscured by his aggressive, violent and dominant nature.
- He loves me, despite everything, he also accepts what he considers the worst in me, because he can also see the best.- Barty ponders, who does not want to change, he could not.
"Go on, love, please ..." the Dark Wizard urges him.
"xxxx,"
Ten gives him another verse and Barty pleases him, unleashing one of those genuine smiles that are so rare and reserved only for him.
"xxxxxxx"
Ten is giving him a promise that perhaps he may not be able to keep, or perhaps not, he feels that somehow for his beloved Death Eater he will always be there.
And then in that moment, the only thing that really matters is seeing him smile.
The Doctor repeats the refrain and then they embrace and remain like this for the rest of the time, until the last color makes its entrance before the sky turns utterly black.
"Lay down and look up, you're going to love this part, my love." Ten informs him, squatting as he points at something in the sky.
He just has the time to say it, before the black sky is surrounded by streamers of every of the colours they saw before, they keep spreading in every way, twirling or going straight, almost touching them.
Barty lays down and watches that amazing show mesmerized.
It's only a matter of a few minutes, before the sky returns to its usual monotonous gray, with no more streamers at all, not until next sunrise.
"My Doctor, I will never forget this dawn, this song, this special moment you created just for me. For us." Barty murmurs, still shaken by emotions.
"The others will never have to know, it will be our little secret." the Doctor decides for both of them, as they walk towards the TARDIS.
They walk through the corridors with the same silence with which they left, after all it is about five in the morning, a few more hours separates them from the general awakening to face that day with an essential mission.
Hand in hand, Barty and Ten return to their room, with the former pushing the latter onto the bed.
"Maybe they won't be as colourful as that unforgivable sunrise," he grins with a lustful look, crawling over an equally impatient Ten "But I bet that under the sheets I can show you every sort of mischief!"
THE END
Notes:I could have put #Fluff as the only tags, for one million times, but it's not allowed, lol
These two are pure honey to write, hope you'll bear me... and them XD
PantonDawn is my invention, mentioned at the end of 'Pinstripe, Tartan and Black' , so this seemd to be the perfect occasion to show you how that planet I imagined really is, with every details.
The song Ten sings to Barty is 'True Colors' (which also gives the title to this oneshot) by Cindy Lauper, this song gave me way too many Barten vibes not to use it.
Hope you liked it, if it's so , pleeeeeease leave a tiny comment, it will make my day/week/month(year ;)
