Clever Fox part 2

Fox enters the police center and a droid cop stops him, motioning to a box on a desk, "Please place helmet, weapons, and comlink in here."

Fox takes off his helmet and sets it aside with his guns and comlink. The droid nods and lets him through. It notices specks of blood and spritz it with cleaning solution.

Fox heads towards the Security mainframe and finds a computer. He enters his name and species for it to let him search. He types in the date, what building, what time. After a few minutes, he grows frustrated and slams his fist on the table, turning a few heads, "Someone erased it!" he shuts it off, turns around and states a bit more calmly, "Fives had two hostages. His general, and captain. They'll know what he knows." he heads over to the droid and asks, "May I use your holo-com?"

the droid asks, "State your reason."

"Long distance questioning."

It nods and opens a door with a large communication panel inside, "You have twenty minutes." Fox nods and enters. The door closes behind him and he starts typing.

Anakin's hologram pops up, asking rudely, "May I help you?"

Fox nods, "I was hoping you would answer a few questions, sir."

"Let me guess, you wanted to ask about a conspiracy."

Fox tilts his head, "How did you know?"

"A friend told me." Anakin crosses his arms, "Just point your nose somewhere else. The 501st has done nothing wrong."

Fox blinks for a minute, "What?"

"Don't play stupid." Anakin thinks for a moment, "Then again, you don't even have to try. Do you have any evidence of anything, or are you just going off a hunch?"

Fox stiffens his posture and tries to speak calmly, "I have evidence. It's not a lot, but..."

Anakin interrupts with a scoff, "What kind of evidence!? If you really believe that one of my officers did something, you're barking up the wrong tree."

Fox's face twitches, but his voice stays level, "Let me speak to Rex."

Anakin looks around, then back at Fox, "I don't think he'll be talking to you anytime soon. He's under orders to stay silent."

Fox nods and sighs angrily, "I see. Thank you for your input." he shuts off the com and crosses his arms with a pout, "Stupid General." then takes a breath to calm down, "Okay, time to find a new angle." he thinks for a minute, "The senate security tapes." He comes out of the room and takes his stuff back, heads out, jumps onto his bike and taps his com, "Chancellor Palpatine, all the security tapes of the incident was erased. I tried to speak with his hostages. But they weren't cooperating."

"Oh? Do you have any other leads?" Palpatine asked sitting comfortably is his chair. He smiled, knowing that if Fox can find the mistakes, covering up the evidence would be like taking candy from a B1 battle droid.

Fox takes a right, "I might after I check the senate security tapes of the attack."

"I'll be in my office."

"Yes, sir. Fox out." Fox shuts off the com and flies off.

Fox arrives and lands his bike near the Senate Guards. They walk up to him and one asks rudely, "Lose something?" Fox glares at them. They let him pass anyway. He walks into the building and heads off to the security room. He starts tapping at the controls as soon as he stepped in the room. One guard in blue walks up to him, "What are you doing?"

"I'm investigating." Fox states without taking his eyes off the screen. The guard nods and watches him carefully. After a minute, Fox mutters, "Nothing." he turns to the guard, "What happened to the footage from the Chancellor's personal medical wing?"

the guard thinks for a moment, "Footage? We don't have cameras in the Chancellor's personal medical wing. Only outside the room."

"That's a severe break of security." Fox states a bit angrily.

The guard comments, "The Chancellor doesn't like people sneaking a peak at how his medication is delivered."

Fox gets a weird image in his head, then shakes it off, "I don't care if he's getting a rectal scan, get some cameras in there. Now."

the guard gives a disturbed nod, "Right away." Fox leaves the room and the guard orders a few officers to add a few new cameras.

Fox walks into the Chancellor's office and bows. Palpatine turns and looks up, "You have a lead?"

He takes off his helmet, "No. Who else was with you during the attack?"

"Shak Ti and Nala Se. I had them outside the room because I wanted to speak with the clone without interference or fear. I had two shock troopers with me in case he attacked." he sighs, "I am so glad I had them. You should congratulate them on a job well done."

"Almost caught him, doesn't count."

"I knew you had high standards, Fox, but isn't that a bit harsh?" Palp asks as Fox looked away in worried thought. He places his hands into a steeple, "You look stressed." he motions to a seat, "Sit."

He sits in the spare chair and looks at him, "I am, sir."

"Bring me two cups and some Chardichol." he asks tapping a button on his desk, "What is on your mind?"

"Nala Se's a Kaminoan. She would have noticed the medical mistake." he says watching a sever droid walk in and serve the drinks. It hands a cup to the Chancellor, then to Fox. Palp thanks it and sends it away. Fox sniffs the drink, sips it, then spits it back in the cup in disgust.

"Oh, I forgot. You don't drink." he said with fake apology, "I'll call up some Caff instead."

"No need, Chancellor." he absentmindedly takes another sip, then spits it back, gagging he states, "Is it possible that Fives was poisoned before he ever got here? Perhaps she did it."

"Or perhaps you are just reading too heavily into the rogue clone's death." He set his drink on the table, then gets up to walk about the room, "What makes you believe that it wasn't given to him by accident?"

"Too many things line up." Fox starts from the beginning, "The clone that attacked you, he held his General and Captain hostage. He looked like he was telling them something and his General got angry..."

He stops him, "Angry? About what?"

"The clone was raving about..." he starts to stress out, "about... Stand down, soldier... Don't do it..."

he puts his hands on his shoulder and says in his smoothest voice, "It's okay, my boy. You're in safe hands."

he calms down, "Sorry, sir."

"I know you are." he sighs, "You can let this go if you wish. Pretend that it never happened." then lowers his tone and states smoother than before, "I could forgive that tiny detail from your file."

"It won't bring him back. Or make anyone forget." he looks up at him, "I should continue searching."

"If you wish." he lets go and picks his drink back up, "So, what made you suspect foul play?"

Fox puts his drink on the floor next to himself, gets up, and paces the room, "I always suspect foul play til the evidence proves me wrong. So far, all I've found is poison and missing footage."

"Keep talking." Palpatine takes a sip.

Fox thinks for a minute, "During the hostage crisis, Anakin was mad that Fives had accused you of attacking him. I know you, you couldn't hurt a fly."

"True. My old bones aren't strong enough to lift much of anything I'm afraid." he says getting up, "I know you're a clever clone, Fox, but do you think it's possible he was given the wrong medication by accident? It happens sometimes."

Fox thinks for another minute, "It doesn't make sense. Especially with the missing footage."

"Someone probably erased the footage by mistake. We both know that the police droids aren't the brightest."

Fox sits down and rubs his head, "True. But it's too coincidental to be a coincidence."

"Things like this happens, my boy." he steps up to him, "You're stressed. Get some rest and you'll see more clearly. Fives just jumped to conclusions that unfortunately ended him. It's not your fault." he hands him his helmet and takes him to the door.

Fox nods, lowering his guard, and slips his helmet on, "Yes, sir. I'll just get some rest."

he waves his hand with the force as he spoke, "It's was just a series of mistakes, nothing more." and sends him off.

Fox walks out of the room mumbling, "Just mistakes, nothing more..."
