Clever Fox part 4

Fox stops in front of Palpatine's office and flips on a tiny switch on his helmet, turning on his helmet cam. He walks in as calmly as possible, "We need to talk."

"I must go, my boy." Palpatine shuts off the hologram of Anakin, then looks at Fox, playing innocent, "About what?"

"What did Fives tell you?"

Palpatine thinks for a minute, "Not much. He told me that the Separatists planted chips in all the clones before the war even started. It sounded too ab..."

"Were they supposed to reprogram us?"

Palpatine raises an eyebrow in surprise, "That is an odd question. What makes you ask such a thing?"

Fox crosses his arms, "I scanned a clone chip."

he slowly nods, "I take it you took precautions?"

Fox thinks for a moment, "Since the chip was inactive, I didn't need to. Did he say anything else?"

Palpatine stands up and walks around to study him as he answered, "He claimed that the chips could make the clones turn on anyone, even the Jedi."

Fox tilts his head, "The Sith separatist leaders do want the Jedi gone. But, how do they plan on activating the chips?"

"I wouldn't know." Palpatine smiles, "Perhaps with a button?"

Fox thinks for a moment, "It'd have to be a pretty powerful button. Either they're waiting for something, or they didn't plant the chips."

"You think someone on our side planted the chips?" he asked quizzically, "Why would they do that? Hmm?"

Fox thinks for a minute, "I... don't know."

Palpatine smiles evilly, "You're a clever fox, Commander. Why would we?"

Fox taps his knuckle against the chin of his helmet, "I don't... Fives attacked you." he looks and points at Palpatine, "Only you. The only reason he's attack you is if you knew from the beginning what the chips did."

"You did say he was poisoned before he reached me." Palpatine reminds him.

"The man could still run in a straight line when he attacked you. I don't think it impaired his judgment til it started melting his nervous system." Fox states turning towards him. He pulls out his weapon and points it at him, set to kill, "You told Fives everything, didn't you! That's why he attacked you! The only thing that confuses me is this. Why did he claim that you attacked him first?"

Palpatine holds out his hands, "You know me, do these look like I could attack someone?"

Fox looks at them, then at his face, "No."

"Did he describe how I attacked him?" he asked putting his hands down.

"No." Fox thinks for a minute, "Unless you used the force and he didn't know how to describe it. That's why you wanted Shak Ti outside. Unlike my men, she would have recognized it!"

"Can you prove I have the force?" he asks with a smile.

Fox thinks for a minute, then looks back down at his hands, "You used a Jedi mind trick on me! All this time! You practically trained me to except them! That's why I'm your favorite!"

he starts to wave his hand, speaking softly, "Now, Fox, be a good boy and put the pistol down. None of this is real. It is just a bad dream..."

Fox starts to lower it, "I'm a good boy... It's just a..." he snaps out of it and pulls out his second pistol, pointing both at him, "No! Stay out of my head!"

Palpatine's face turns into an evil smirk, "Bravo my boy..."

"I'm not your boy!" Fox snaps.

His smirk subsides, "No, but you are a good soldier. And good soldiers follow orders." He smiles, "Execute order 78." Fox leg jolts as the chip activates in his pocket. He holsters a gun and yanks it out, quickly tosses it on the ground and whips his blaster out once more. It sparks on the ground. Palpatine frowns as Fox points the guns at his chest, "So, that was your chip after all."

Fox states, "I had to know the truth."

Palpatine sighs, "I take it that you're going to cart me off to prison? Pity."

Fox growls, "No."

Two Senate guards pass by, but stop when they hear Palpatine panicking through blaster fire, "Have you gone mad!?"

they run in and point their weapons at Fox, "Stand down!"

Fox looks at them and shouts, "The Chancellor's a traitor to the republic! He's betrayed us all!"

The Chancellor looks at them, "The man's gone mad!" the guards start shooting at Fox, but he dives for the desk. They run over and he launches himself over them, barrel rolls out of the room, smacks into the hallway wall and quickly tries to stand. The two guards come out and he flees with blaster bolts chasing him. Palpatine gets off the floor and brushes himself off, then coms all senate guards, "Commander Fox needs to be stopped, stun him when you have the chance." he shuts off the com, "Why waste a good soldier?"

Fox bursts out the front doors at full speed and jumps onto his bike, almost knocking the wind out of himself. A ton more guards run out and start shooting stun blasts at him. He takes off and hightails it out of there. He turns his head and spots a couple Senate guards on speeders following him. He hisses through his teeth and drives faster. He gives them a wild chase til they reach a lower level. Once close enough to a railing, he jumps for it. He catches the second rung and uses his feet to push himself up and over. Most of the guards chase the bike, but two broke off and chased him on foot, having seen what he did. He runs into the nearby crowd and snags someone's cloak. The guards lose him. The first kicks the ground in anger, "I can't believe he got away! The captain is going to skin us alive for losing him."

the second thinks, "Okay, if I was a filthy clone that wanted to kill the Chancellor, where would I go?"
