I do not mean to offend anyone who is non binary. I'm not perfect at this stuff and if I do something to either offend someone or make a mistake, please tell me. I'll fix it.
Lee's eyes widened. He was not expecting wolves... though the footprints he had spotted at the front of the cave did make more sense.
"Uh," He started, too tired to really comprehend anything.
Then, before his and Jen's eyes, the wolves changed. Their heads became those of a humans, along with their limbs and torso, with pale brown skin. Shaggy, dark brown hair went past their elbows like Jennifer's, and both had startling gold eyes. The only notable difference from each other seemed to be their heights.
The girl, as she introduced herself, was Emily Levesque. From what Jennifer could tell, she was about five foot. Her twin, Sammy, was non binary and, from Lee's estimate, around four foot six.
"This is our cave," Emily announced. "Be prepared to have us intrude."
Jen cracked a smile. "Well, since your here, why don't be join forces? Me and Lee are heading to Camp Half-Blood."
Sammy frowned. "Lee and I."
"Whatever. How old are you guys? Also, I'm guessing your either demigods or legacies."
"Legacies. And we're both nine."
"No, dummy, we're ten." Sammy teased their sister.
"Oh, you shut it." Turning her focus to the amused duo, she sat around the fire. "Well, let's talk."
Sammy sat next to their sister, grinning at Jennifer as she groaned. Lee nudged her as she grabbed a granola bar out from where it sat around the den.
"What?" She complained.
"Nothin' annoying you is my specialty."
Her eyes narrowed. "You-"
"No fighting!" Sammy intervened.
Rolling his eyes, he grabbed three more granola bars and tossed two to the twins. "We each need a job." Jennifer decided.
"But we don't even know your names."
"Jennifer. Lee. Now, as I was saying, one of us needs to work on getting fire, one needs to work on where we're going, one needs to work on getting food and the other one water."
Pausing, she added, "I can do water."
"Oh sure," Solace muttered. "Give you the job that's easiest for you."
"I'm the leader."
"But I'm older. I choose direction choosing. Don't ask me why, but I can tell which way we're going- north, east, south, and all that jazz." Lee started to eat his granola bar, reaching for his water bottle as he tore off the wrapping.
"I... don't do well with fire. I think I can find food rather well." Emily's voice was charming, smooth. Unhinged.
Sammy nodded. "And I'll do fire."
Jen clapped. "Congrats. Now, let me sleep."
"Wait." Lee raised his hand as if he was in school. "What's with the I just happen to be a wolf but also a human and also sounded like a snake thing?"
"We can turn into different animals."
"Yeah," Emily agreed with her twin. "It's very select - like we have to know the animal well and even then it depends on the animal."
"Okay. That's... really cool." Jennifer admitted. "But..."
"Yes, chill. We're sleeping now. Calm down, Smartwater."
Emily and Sammy cracked up. "Smartwater?" Emily asked between gasped. "That - is - awesome."
"I'm going to sleep!" She snapped.
Five minutes later, Sammy was on watch while the others were passed out in the back of the cave.
Hey! So, I think this chapter is kinda shorter than my previous ones. But I can't think of a way to just prolong it. Also, what do you guys think about them finding a pet? If so, which animal? (Must be reasonable, I'm not adding a lion as a pet.)Please stay safe and have a good morning/evening/afternoon!
