Previous Chapter. Painful Reminiscence.
Byakuran's voice also snapped him out of his thought to notice that his hands were hurting. He looked at his hands which was clenching painfully and realized that his body was restraining himself from strangling Byakuran.
Which reminded him that there was no reason for restraining at all. So, with a speed that he was sure that Byakuran could not dodge, a punch was planted on Byakuran's face. Also, with a bonus that it also slammed him into one of his office's wall.
"Geez Tsunayoshi-kun. I will knock next time when I enter your office if you are that angry about it." Byakuran chuckled.
They both know that it was not the reason for the punch.
Chapter 17. Byakuran's Gamble.
Byakuran is not the type of person to leave a thing to fate, he did try to take over the world after all.
Everyone knows that he was not exactly sane. Everyone probably thought he was born like that and the Mare Rings only made it worse. But, the truth is not quite that simple, and he never plans to change the notion.
Some things drove him into insanity. One of those things is his mother.
Natsume Kokuren is not a motherly woman. Byakuran did not think of her as his mother enough to call her Okaa-chan, but he respected her role for his existence to call her Hahaoya or Haha-chan.
Hahaoya did not raise him and Byakuran was certain that she barely raised his sister.
When Byakuran was young, his father brought home a girl. Otou-chan told him that she is his sister.
Little Byakuran was running to a man with short white hair and blue eyes.
"Otou-chan, you're home," Byakuran exclaimed while hugging his father.
The man laughed. "Have you been a good boy?"
Byakuran nodded his head happily. The man smiled and ruffled his hair.
"Hey, you know what. Look at who I found?" The man revealed a little girl with short white hair that was sleeping in his back.
Byakuran looked at the girl in confusion. "Who's that?"
"This is your little sister."
Byakuran's eyes became wide in wonder. "I have a sister!"
"Yes, when I was looking for your Okaa-chan, I found her instead. So, I took her home." The man grinned happily.
Byakuran's eyes became dim in sadness. "Why Okaa-chan leave us?"
"Don't worry, Ran-kun. Otou-chan will find your Okaa-chan. Then, we can live together happily."
That's when his little sister opened her eyes. His father put her down. She looked around in confusion.
"Who are you? Where am I? Where is Okaa-chan?" She asked with glassy eyes.
"Hey, don't cry! It's all right. I am your Otou-chan and this is your Onii-chan." His father said to calm her down.
She looked at them in confusion. "Otou-chan? Onii-chan?"
His father nodded. "Yes, that's right. What is your name?"
"Yu-chan." She answered nervously.
His sister lived with them for a while. Until a woman took her from us. That was the first time Byakuran met Hahaoya.
Byakuran looked happily at his father and newfound sister who was playing in the park. His father was piggybacking his sister, and threw her to the sky, while, she was laughing happily.
Then, he heard a gunshot. Byakuran's eyes became wide in horror at seeing his father and his sister's blood. His father sent a sign to him to hide. Then, his father hugged his sister and ran away from there.
At their home, Byakuran and his father sat around a bed where his sister was sleeping. Fortunately, her life was not in danger, although the bullet almost harmed her heart, while his father's wound was not serious.
Suddenly, the door was opened. They looked at the door alarmedly to find a woman dressed like a Cervello. She narrowed her eyes at them and folded her hands.
"Well, I should have guessed that it was you, who kidnapped my daughter." She said offhandedly.
"Susanna!" His father said in surprise. He looked happy to see her.
She looked at his father tiredly. "Raffael, how many times have I told you to stop looking for me? I am not coming back to you."
His father looked hurt. "But, I love you. I want to stay with you."
She shook her head. "We can't stay together."
"Please, if not for me. Stay for Ran-kun." His father pleaded.
"I am sorry, Raffael. I only came to get my daughter." She said in an uninterested voice.
She moved forward toward his sister, but then his father stood in front of her.
"Say, Susanna. She is my daughter too, isn't she?" His father said softly.
"Yes, she is." She answered shortly.
"Then, why can't she stay with me?" His father said miserably.
"And, let something like this happen again." She told him mockingly.
His father flinched and moved away from her, so the woman could pick his sister up. Then, the woman walked to the door.
"She calls herself Yu-chan." His father said before she left. "What is her full name?"
She stopped at the doorway without looking at him and left without answering.
Byakuran finally found his voice and shouted before he lost sight of the woman.
"Okaa-chan? Don't take my sister away from me, please." Byakuran shouted pleadingly. "I will take care of her. I won't let her get hurt again. I will protect her. I promise. So, please don't take Yu-chan."
"I do not need a boy." The woman said calmly.
Tears fell from Byakuran's eyes and his father hugged him.
"I am sorry, Ran-kun. Otou-chan is sorry. Otou-chan will find Yuri-chan again. Otou-chan promises that we will stay together again."
That was the first and the last time Byakuran called her Okaa-chan. And, Byakuran never forgets Hahaoya'words to him.
A few years later, Otou-chan finally explained to him about Hahaoya.
His father had a one night stand with a Cervello and a year later gave the baby to him to raise. Instead of letting her go, Otou-chan continued to look for her.
They might have met again, considering his sister's existence. But, Otou-chan could not get Hahaoya to stay with them.
After Byakuran got his future memories, he went to see his sister again for the first time.
"Aren't you the angel of death?"
"Angel of death? What are you talking about?" He asked in confusion.
"I got a dream that you kill me in a fire."
Byakuran was speechless. He did not know what to do.
"Are you going to kill me?" She asked.
Byakuran snapped out from his reverie. "NO!" He shouted instantly.
"Okay, so what do you want?"
Byakuran decided to just be himself. "Hello, Yu-chan, I am your brother, Byakuran Gesso, nice to meet you again. Oh, right, I killed our father recently, he's just so annoying."
He did not know why he said that part about his father. He just thought that his sister could not know about his father and his killer if he wanted her to stay with Vongola. But, still, if the future memory did not scare her off, what he just said definitely will.
So, imagined his surprise when she opened the door, she came out and looked at him in fascination.
"Brother?" She said in wonder.
Byakuran smiled nervously. "I would have thought after what I said you would be scared of me."
"Oh, you mean about killing our father? I don't really remember him, so I can't exactly get mad at you." She blinked. "And, you did say that you didn't come to kill me. So, I just thought I don't have to be scared of you."
"Aren't you angry that I kill you in the future?" Byakuran asked incredulously.
She sighed tiredly. "Not really. My future self was tired and frustrated. In my opinion, you're doing my future self a favour."
He blinked in disbelief.
"Then, you wouldn't mind if I do this, would you?"
"Do what?" She asked in confusion.
Byakuran launched himself to his sister and hugged her tightly.
"Yu-chan! I miss you very much!" He exclaimed.
"Air!" She muttered while trapped in the hug.
After Byakuran finally calmed down and released his sister, she invited him in. They sit in the living room to finally get to know each other.
"So, how have you been?" She asked unsurely.
He smiled widely. "I am happy to finally meet you."
She gave him a deadpan look. "That's not exactly the answer I was expecting."
"Don't worry yourself too much, Yu-chan. You can ask me anything. I will answer if I can." Byakuran knows that his sister wanted some answer, but there were still some things he could not tell her.
"All right then. I will be blunt. Are you in the mafia?" She asked nervously.
Byakuran chuckled. "Oh, yes, I am."
"Oh." She said unimpressed. "What exactly you do in the mafia?"
"Tsh, tsh, I am sorry Yu-chan. That's classified information." He said playfully.
" Fine." She pouted. "So, the dream I got was really the future."
"It was just an alternate future. It won't happen in this future. Also, you came back to life in that future." Byakuran explained.
She looked at him with wide eyes. "Came back to life? How?"
"That's also classified, Yu-chan."
She sighed. "So, have you met with Hahaue (Mother)?"
Byakuran narrowed his eyes. "Yes, I have."
She raised her eyebrows. "You don't seem to like Hahaue."
"You're right."
She gave him an unimpressed look that told him she knows he was hiding something.
"You said that you kill me because of my connection with Sawada. What do you mean by that?" She said as if she just remembers that.
That was a bit hard to answer. Byakuran wanted Tsunayoshi to tell her himself. He did not think it was right to tell his sister about Tsunayoshi's connection to the mafia.
"Well, in the future, I have a goal to rule the world to bring it into peace. Tsunayoshi-kun is just part of some people that happen to stand in my way." He answered after much thought. "So, yeah, to weaken him I killed the people that were connected to him. Oh, right, I also killed you, so no one could use you to defeat me."
She looked at him in disbelief. Then, she sighed in frustration. "Maybe the depression is finally getting to me."
"Yu-chan! Don't ignore me!"
Byakuran also found out Hahaoya's civilian identity from future memories. So, he also went to see her.
"Hello, Haha-chan." Byakuran greeted the woman.
Byakuran was in France to see his mother.
"Ran-kun? I never thought you will come to visit me."
"I just want to talk."
"That's so cold of you, Ran-kun." She said in mock hurt.
Byakuran entered the house and sat at the nearest chair. His mother followed suit and sat across from him.
He was about to talk when she told him something that shocked him.
"Don't tell Yuri about the mafia" She looked at him seriously.
Byakuran narrowed his eyes at her, but inwardly he was confused.
"Why not?" He asked to get more information."Does it really matter? She will know sooner or later."
"She doesn't need to know."
Byakuran was worried inwardly. "So, what did you tell her?"
She looked away. "Well, I told her that she got shot when she was 3. I told her it was because of that I divorced her father and stayed in Namimori to avoid the mafia."
Byakuran narrowed his eyes at remembering about the shooting.
"You lied to her." He stated as if it was not a surprise.
Byakuran later realized that Hahaoya lied because she could not remember what happened when she was a Cervello. But, eventually, Hahaoya found out what happened and told his sister.
He found her sitting on the floor. She was hugging her knees and looked deep in thought. When he walked toward her, he noticed many photographs scattered around her.
His eyes widened at seeing the photograph of his father, also of him and his sister when they were kids.
He knelt beside his sister. "Yu-chan?" He said softly.
"You lied." She asked evenly.
"Is it about our father?"
"Why didn't you tell me that the Vongola killed him?"
He looked at her sadly. "Is it better if I tell you that?"
"No. Nothing could make it feel better." She said emotionlessly.
Byakuran took a photograph of his father and held it in front of him.
"You look like him so much," Byakuran commented. "It's a pity that you don't remember him."
She looked at him curiously.
"Otou-chan loved you so much, even though the time he spent with you was short. He regretted it very much. He wished to stay with you so much." Byakuran smiled sadly at her.
"Do you think he deserved to get killed?" She asked.
"No," Byakuran said wistfully.
"Why did you lie?"
He looked at her grimly. "I don't want you to hate the Vongola."
Then suddenly, Byakuran forgot his sister. It was when he found a photo from his childhood, when his sister lived with his father, that he remembers about her.
Byakuran realized that his sister is a Cervello now. He wanted to get his sister back but did not know how to do that. Hahaoya was no help because she did not remember.
So, normally Byakuran would not leave anything to fate. But, he did not know what else to do to get his sister back.
That was why, Byakuran wholeheartedly supported his sister love for Tsunayoshi-kun, because he was certain that fate would pull them back together, no matter how far apart they are.
When Byakuran heard that Vongola Decimo wanted to talk to him. He knows that his gamble is paying off.
