A/N: Okay, before we start, the Doctor talks to the TARDIS in High Gallifreyan, and the TARDIS's answers to him are basically his translationsof her hums.
I didn't know how much time had passed. Each second seemed like a century. My breaths became more laboured and short and I became slower. My head was spinning more than ever and taking up all my attention while the temperature dropped even more as the moments passed. I had stopped humming a long time ago, and felt like I couldn't even speak properly even if I wanted to.
Every breath seared my throat and every time I touched the wall, I felt closer to hypothermia. Lumps kept forming in my throat, and threatened to burst, but I harshly swallowed them every time they came, I couldn't cry, not at a time like this- not when 1) the tears would speed up my hypothermia and 2) I would probably sit down and cry until I died of hypothermia anyway. So basically, hypothermia was the constant. I had to keep moving, no matter what. I had to find a safe place. But when? You've been walking for ages! Why don't you just give up and wait for the TARDIS to come back to life?!
It kept nagging me- that there was no use in walking around pointlessly. I tried my best to not listen to it as I continued to walk, one hand sliding along the freezing cold wall.
My walks slowly became hobbles, and my breaths became shallow wheezes. The hand on the wall stopped freezing. It became harder to ignore the voice at the back of my head, which was constantly nagging me to give up. I stopped walking and leaned my hand against the wall, puffing and panting. A lump started to prickle my throat again and my lip trembled. I bit the inside of my lip. I let out a ragged breath and attempted to take a deep breath, but all it did was sear my windpipe thanks to all the cold air. And all the effort it took. Maybe it would just be easier to stop. To give up. To just- No. Don't. Liza, I swear to God-
I closed my eyes and hit the wall, flinching as a billion needles appeared to prickle my hand. I swallowed hard and continued to start walking again. Moving my legs became into me moving two icicles that can't bend. I flinched every step, biting my lip hard. The pain barely registered.
The darkness in front of me started swimming and spots appeared in my vision. I shook my head and tried to walk further, but my legs buckled and I slammed into the other wall headfirst.
Doctor's POV:
The TARDIS jolted again as I ran toward the console room, occasionally bumping into edges of walls (and cursing afterward, which made Sexy hum in disapproval even though she was jostling around). Sexy seemed to sense what I wanted to do (or thought that what I was doing was the most obvious thing ever) which is why she took me on the shortest path to the console room.
I stumbled in as she shook one more time, holding onto a railing so as to not get thrown around the room like Liza always would while we were flying somewhere. After the tremors stopped, I lunged toward the console which proved to be a difficult job thanks to the fact that my legs felt wobbly after the tremors.
I pulled the scanning screen toward me and flipped the atmosphere check switch, which didn't work. I frowned and flipped it again. What the- oh. Sexy hummed mournfully and I scowled at her. "Of course. You grounded us, didn't you?" The High Gallifreyan felt weird on my tongue, especially since I was so used to communicating with Rose and Liza in english, but it was still the first thing that came out of my mouth as I talked to Sexy. Oi, it's not my fault you decided to almost erase me from existence because you wanted to save a stray's father! I scowled at her and rolled my eyes. "One, she's my friend, and two, NOW you decide to start talking to me again."
Telepathically communicating! You're the one who talks!
"Yeah, whatever, now I'll have to go outside and see what the hell is going on because someone decided to lock all the controls. Speaking of, it's an emergency, why don't you- AAH!"
I fell back as more tremors started coming. I held onto the console tightly as the tremors stopped. And so did Sexy. Her glow started disappearing. "No, what are you doing!" I ran around wildly, flicking anything I could find as the life started draining from the console even though I very well knew that nothing would work.
I'm sorry. Her voice was softer than usual, slowly fading.
"No, you can't die, not now, not today! Not ever!"
It's to keep you safe, love.
"How is your death going to save anyone!"
She didn't answer. The whole room became dark. I threw my hands on the console and started pressing whatever I could find. "You can't die! Sexy!"
I swallowed as I got no response from her. The entire console room was dark, mildly lit by the glass tower. I took a deep breath and swallowed, resting my hands on the console. I looked down at the controls and closed my eyes. Sexy had died to save us. And I couldn't do anything to prevent it. Good going, Doctor, I wonder what all your past versions would say when they find out that you let your best friend die. The only piece of Gallifrey I had left. And now she was gone, like Gallifrey.
I sighed, staring at the controls, my voice wavering a little bit. I should've stopped this from happening. Fantastic job, Doctor, you've completely given up your oath to never be cruel or cowardly. What will your companions think now- I jerked up, my eyes widening. How could I-
I ran into the corridor (well, I bumped into a wall and fell down so I had to go and open up a console compartment, which thankfully wasn't locked, find a torch and THEN go running into the corridor- but nobody needs to know that), my jacket flapping behind me. "Rose! Liza!"
No response. I took a deep breath and pointed the torch toward the corridor, checking if anyone was there, but was unable to talk for whatever reason. I ran in further, calling them, but got no response. As I ran around, I started to formulate a plan as to how to get out of this situation while also thinking about what the hell happened. I knew that we were hit by something, but what? And why would somebody hit us?
Some time later, I slowed down to a stop to catch my breath. I puffed and panted, tightening my jacket around myself, my torch pointing forward. A sound then reached my ears. Someone was crying. I perked up and frowned. She was close. "Rose?"
The crying stopped. She sniffed loudly and cleared her throat. "Doctor?" A small smile made its way onto my face. She was in the room a few doors in front of me. Clever old Sexy. I thought, and swallowed, pushing the sinking feeling of Sexy's death down.
"What the hell are you doing crying in there? It's dark and freezing!" I walked toward the door.
"I'm locked in here!"
I walked over to the door and tried to open it, but it didn't work. "I'm not able to open the door." I frowned.
"Yes, Doctor, that's what 'locked' means, if you were wondering!"
I looked up, scowling. "I know what it means, I was just confirming your theory."
"Yeah, as if me banging on the doors wasn't obvious enough."
"I didn't hear that, I was too occupied with the TARDIS dying," I looked down and reached for my screwdriver in my jacket pocket.
"WHAT?!"
I jumped, throwing the marbles which I had dug up instead of the sonic on the floor. "Yes, you heard me right, Rose, she's dead and there's nothing I could do about it."
I was met with silence as I pulled out a hairdryer and a banana. Why the bloody hell was I finding all sorts of useless nonsense instead of the sonic! I opened the banana and took a bite as I threw the hairdryer.
"Are you trying to ram the door open by throwing stuff on the floor or something?!" She yelled, and I rolled my eyes. "Yes Rose, I thought that it would be a better idea than trying to recover my lost sonic screwdriver and opening the door like a normal Time Lord."
I pulled out a notebook and a smartphone with a purple cover. "Oh, and tell Liza I found her phone in my pockets," I kept her phone in my pants pocket, my hand brushing against- "Oh, for the love of-" I let out a bunch of curses in every single language I knew as I pulled my sonic screwdriver out of my pants pocket.
"What happened?!" Rose sounded alarmed as she banged on the door. I pointed the sonic at the door. "It's nothing, I just found my sonic, that's all, I was, er, celebrating."
"So you celebrate by yelling the words 'stupid f-"
"Oi, language!" I buzzed the door and smiled as the lock clicked. "Try opening it now," She waited for a moment as she said, "Alright," but by then, I had opened the door already.
She scowled at me, wrapping her blue blanket around her tightly. I frowned at the tear tracks on her face. "One, why did you ask me to try opening the door when you did it anyway, and two, I think I understand why the TARDIS locked me in now. Feels like Antarctica out here."
"Says the girl wearing a blanket."
"Oi, you've got different cold resistance, doesn't mean I do!" She scowled at me. "Anyway, where's Liza?"
I threw my hands up, "I don't know! She's gone exploring somewhere and I assumed that the TARDIS would get her to the console room!"
"Well, she isn't there, is she?"
"I would've seen her if she was," I shrugged. "We need to find her soon and get to the secondary console unit." I pointed the torch at the corridor and handed her the banana, "Want some?"
"Why do you have a banana in your pocket?"
"Bananas are good!" I scowled at her and took another bite out of the banana, turning. "Here," I handed her the torch and took her hand. She held the torch in her other hand and pointed it forward.
"Where do you think she'll be?" Rose wondered aloud as we turned around a corner.
"I dunno, she was exploring today, so she might be in one of the rooms. Liza!" I called out, but got no answer. I took a deep breath. "Maybe she's a little farther away,"
"Yeah, maybe," Rose turned again, "Liza, where are you!"
My hearts started beating a little faster as I called her again and still got no response. I stretched my hand out to rest it on the wall, but recoiled almost immediately after touching it.
"Doctor, what's wrong?" Rose looked up at me, her eyes wide. I looked at the wall behind her. "Rose, look behind you."
She spun around, gasping, and turned back again. "What do you mean, look behind me? There's nothing there except for the wall."
I pointed at the wall again. "Exactly. A few moments ago, I stretched my hand to touch the wall, like I usually do, but this time I didn't need to stretch at all."
Rose's eyes widened. "You're not-"
I nodded. "The TARDIS is dead, so her dimensions are collapsing, meaning, she won't be bigger on the inside anymore."
Rose looked at me, dumbstruck. I pulled her along, "We need to find Liza soon and get to the other console room so I can get it working."
Rose and I ran for a while, calling Liza, who didn't answer. My hearts started beating faster. I had to find her soon and get to the console unit.
"Liza, where the hell are you?!" I yelled, but received no answer. What if- My hearts almost stopped beating when that possibility ran through my mind. "No, no, that's not happened, she's alive, I know it." I muttered.
"What are you talking about?!" Rose yelled, and I closed my eyes, pushing the thought away. "It's nothing, Rose, I'm sure she's perfectly alright. Bit cold and scared, possibly, but alright. Why won't she be?"
As we kept running around looking for her, I kept muttering those lines every few minutes not only to comfort Rose, but also to convince myself in a way. "Liza!"
I reached out for the wall. Definitely closing in more. I pushed Rose behind me. "The walls are getting narrower, behind me."
After a few more moments of running, I stopped and gasped, my hearts almost stopping. "Liza!" I ran toward the figure that was slumped across the corridor in an extremely uncomfortable position. I fell to my knees and pulled her toward me. I turned her over such that her face was facing me. She was unconscious and cold.
"Oh God, is she-" I ignored Rose as I took Liza's hand, my own shaking as I placed my fingers on her wrist. I breathed a sigh of relief, hugging Liza close, flinching at how cold she was. After I pulled away, I took off my jacket. I looked behind at Rose after wrapping the jacket around Liza, a smile making its way into my face. "She's alive, but barely."
I picked her up and stood up. "We need to get to the console room fast."
Rose nodded, a smile on her face as well. "Doctor, where is the console room?"
"No idea," I said, adjusting Liza such that I would be able to run without dropping her. "But we'll have to find it."
Rose pointed the torch forward and we continued moving. This time, I let Rose lead. We walked across a bunch of corridors, the torch lighting the place up in an eerie way. The walls were a little closer to us than before, but I made a few calculations on how long it would take for them to close in completely and smother us. We had a while to live, as I had told Rose. Well, if half an hour counted as a while.
Thankfully, we found the console room soon after that. "Oh, fantastic!" I ran in (well, walked extremely fast, I didn't want to drop my best friend and break her back or something) and set Liza down on the floor gently. She shifted a bit as she snuggled into my jacket.
I grinned at her and jumped onto my feet. I grinned at Rose. "Alright, you watch her and tell me when she wakes up, I'll try and figure out a way to get out of here."
She nodded as I ran toward the console. I tried using a few controls. Bit rusty, but would work. Well, if the TARDIS was alive, that is. I looked down at the console, running a hand across the rim. I'm sorry, my love. I rested my forehead on the rim, sighing. I had to come up with a plan to get us all out of there, preferably before the walls closed in on the corridors and eventually the console room.
I tried my best to hide my distress from Rose- no use in both of us losing hope. I tried out a few more controls, walking around as Rose cleared her throat. "You don't have a plan, do you?" I looked up at her and shook my head, trying to remain as cool as possible. "Course I have a plan, who the hell do you think I am?"
"Doctor, you're almost as bad as Liza when it comes to lying today." Rose shrugged, and I was about to give her a response when I was interrupted.
"Ow." I ran towards the two of them as Liza groaned, slowly getting up.
A/N: I know I said that this would be the last chapter of this particular adventure, but exams have a funny way of draining all your creativity lol. I'm sorry I haven't been able to update in nearly 2 weeks, but I've been having exams constantly.

NeoMulder: Honestly, I feel like Rose should've reacted more to her Dad's death, since she was there for it twice and went through so much. Honestly, I love Marvel so much that I had to include it in there and I feel like Doctor Strange is a lot like our Doc!
And about the thing that's happening to the TARDIS, there's a hunch the Doctor gets and it will be explained more properly in the next chapter. I'm so glad you're enjoying the story so far! 3
