Hogwarts: (Assignment 6) Foreign Exchange - Task #2: Viktor Krum (paired with Harry)
When Viktor Krum travelled to Scotland for the Triwizard Tournament, he found himself falling in love for the second time in his life.
His first love was, and always would be, flying. The first time he had held a broom within his hand, he finally knew what freedom was. When his father sent him off to train further in Quidditch, Viktor learnt what it meant to be naturally talented at something. The pride in his parents eyes as he was selected for the Romanian National Team meant everything to him.
Yet as much as he loved the thrill of competition, the buzzing atmosphere as he raced around the pitch, his eyes always seeking that flicker of gold, he knew that Quidditch was fun but not what he loved the most. He loved the absolute freedom that came with just flying. There were no rules, nor were there any expectations, it was just Viktor and the open sky.
He felt that same semblance of freedom when he stepped off the Durmstrang ship and onto the grounds of Hogwarts for the first time. The castle was beautiful, the grounds so open and welcoming. Most of all, there was a level of comfort and no expectations, unlike his own school. There were stares and whispers, but nobody really knew who Viktor was. It gave him the false sense of anonymity he had craved.
He had never expected for the school to become his second love, especially considering the way the tournament had ended. Viktor had learnt a lot from that trip though, about both himself and what he wanted for the future. That led him to his third and final love. The one that he was positive would eclipse all others.
The love to end all other loves, Harry.
That was the love that hit him in the face unexpectedly. It had almost knocked him off his feet when he realised that he had fallen in love with Harry Potter.
It was that realisation that led him to this moment. Stepping out of the cramped Ministry Office for International Portkey Travel, his lips spreading into an unconscious grin as he tucked his papers inside his robe. His eyes darted around the Atrium, desperately seeking those emerald green eyes that overwhelmed his every waking moment.
"Hello love," Viktor felt his heart beat faster. Sometimes he wondered if his body was hardwired to react to Harry's voice. It became instinctive to seek him out, twisting and turning until he finally spotted the man who had captured his heart, leaning against a pillar and smiling as if nothing could go wrong.
He finally felt as if he was home, being with Harry made him feel that way. They had spent years healing together, seeking comfort with one another, until finally, Viktor realised he never wanted to leave him again. It was with Harry that he finally felt free of all scrutiny and expectations, and Viktor knew he felt the same way. He had dreaded every time he had to leave for his International duties, months without Harry was more painful than he had ever expected. Now though, as he reached towards the man who had swept away his heart, he knew he never had to leave him again.
"Hi, my love."
