The Greatest Treasure

Lupin got out of his car and headed for the beach. He took off his shoes and his feet sank into the sand. It was still dark, but the first light of dawn would soon arrive. Everything was so quiet after the eventful night he had just spent.

A necklace that had belonged to Marie-Antoinette had been found and was to be exhibited in a museum. At the time, the diamond on the necklace was envied by all the courts of Europe. Lupin had to to own this wonder.

Everything might have been fine if he had not been double-crossed by such a bewitching and manipulative woman. Fujiko Mine. It was not the first time he had been in this kind of situation because of her. He walked further down the beach and finally saw her figure sitting on the sand. He approached.

'I almost waited,' she said without looking at him.

Lupin smiled. He knew where to find her and she knew he was coming. It was always like that between them. They understood each other better than anyone. He sat down next to her.

'I was delayed.'

Indeed, after stealing the necklace under his nose, Fujiko escaped with his car. He found it ironic, a thief being robbed. He had narrowly got away from Zenigata.

'Sorry I had to borrow your car.'

Lupin saw that gleam in her eyes that showed she was anything but sorry. It had been like that since they met. They supported each other, helped each other, betrayed each other but they were always there for each other. Lupin would not change their relationship for the world. He was in love with Fujiko and despite all the treasures he possessed, she was the most precious treasure in his life.

'You know,' she said, looking at the horizon, 'I believe the greatest treasure is in front of us.'

Lupin looked ahead. The sun was rising, illuminating the beach with that golden light. It was a treasure he wanted to share only with Fujiko. He put his arm around her and hugged her. He put his hand in one of her pocket.

'You can imagine that I haven't the necklace with me.'

Lupin let out a light laugh. She knew him inside out and knew he would try to find the necklace.

'You can't blame me for trying.'

Fujiko smiled and snuggled up against him.

'Enjoy the view instead.'

Lupin watched the sun rise. The sound of the waves was like a melody. They hugged, enjoying the time together and the treasure in front of them.
