Night:
World Exposition Fair
Steven and Lars walk into the Exposition with the girls waiting a little ahead of them. Lars jokes, "I don't see what the problem is. You're about to be the last eligible man in New York. You know, there are three and a half million women here."
Steven, with his hands in his pants pockets, looks at Connie as she stands with Sadie laughing at what she said, "Well, I'd settle just for one."
Lars tells him, "Good thing we both took care of that... a while ago." He smiles and waves to the girls as they look over at them.
Steven looks at Connie lovingly, feeling lucky he has her more than a friend. He had loved her since they were children.
Lars looks at Sadie like he can't believe that he would ever have a woman like her in his life. The music starts playing in the background. The boys reach the girls and walk throughout the event, looking at what's on display and seeing ahead that a show is starting.
Connie's excited, holding Steven's left hand with her right hand, "It's starting!" She pushes Lars and Sadie forward to move closer, and they smile at how excited she is. They walk towards the stage with a car showing ladies standing around it.
The announcer, Jane, announces to the audience, "Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Stanford Pines." The crowd claps for Stanford Pines, and he enters the stage smiling, taking off his top hat, like what the ladies on stage are wearing, and he gives it to Jane as she kisses him on the cheek. He then looks at the crowd, smirking, and takes the microphone as he takes out a tissue to wipe the red lipstick off his cheek that Jane left.
Stanford speaks to the audience at the World Exposition Fair, "Ladies and gentlemen-" Steven, Lars, Connie, and Sadie stand with the crowd. Lars stands behind Sadie with his arms around her waist, holding her close. Steven stands beside Connie on her right and offers her popcorn that he got when they were walking around, and she smiles at him and takes a few. Even though his mood is a little down, he still gives her a loving peck on her cheek, and her smile grows, and she eats her popcorn. Stanford continues, "-What if I told you that in just a few short years, your automobile won't even have to touch the ground?" The female helpers on stage take the wheels off the car on stage. Jane walks past him with a wheel in hand, "Yes. Thanks, Jane." He addresses the audience again, "With Pines robotic reversion technology, you'll be able to do just that." He turns on the switch of his control panel machine, and the car starts to hover off the ground while Steven, his friends, and the crowd look astonishingly at it.
Lars, stunned like everyone else, says, "Holy cow."
The part making the car hover suddenly malfunctioned, and the car fell back on stage. Stanford was a bit embarrassed but covered it up, smiled nervously at the crowd, and told them, "I did say a few years, didn't I?" The crowd laughs at what he says and claps at his invention, even if it breaks down. Steven looks behind him and sees an enlistment stand. Stanford chuckles nervously, still smiling, playing his part to the crowd.
Lars turns over and says, "Hey Steven. Why don't we treat the girls and-" He cuts himself off when he sees Steven has disappeared. Lars taps the girls, and they turn around to see Steven has disappeared. Connie sighs sadly, knowing what he's doing.
In the recruitment center, a man stands on a mat that turns on a light so he can see himself 'dressed' like a soldier. In front of him, there was a picture on the wall, almost like a mirror, and he could see himself looking like a soldier. The man's girlfriend drags him away, and Steven steps up on the mat, he looks at himself as a soldier in the mirror, but his head doesn't fit, meaning he's not tall enough.
Lars comes from behind and taps him on the shoulder, "Come on, you're kind of missing the whole point of a double date." Steven turns to see Lars, Sadie, and Connie.
Sadie tells him, "We're going to go dancing. Come on." She encourages him.
Steven, not in the mood to go, says, "You guys go ahead, and I'll catch up with you."
Connie sighs, knowing what he's going to do, "You're gonna do this again?"
Steven tells her, "Well, it's a fair. I'm going to try my luck."
Lars questions him, "As for who? Steven from Ohio?"
Sadie cuts in, "They'll catch you."
Lars finishes her sentence, "Or worse, they'll take you."
Steven looks at them, "Look, I know you guys don't think I can do this."
Connie argues, "This isn't a back alley, Steven. It's a war!"
Steven looks at her as they argue, "I know it's a war, Connie. You don't have to tell me."
Connie continues, "Why are you so keen to fight? There are so many important jobs." A doctor walks down the hallway where they are, coming from behind Steven, and she hears their common argument and stops walking.
Steven asks, "What am I going to do? Collect scrap metal-"
Lars cuts into their argument, "Yes!"
Steven finishes his sentence, "-in my little red wagon."
Lars asks, "Why not?"
Steven tells them, "I'm not going to sit in a factory, guys. Guys, come on! Men are laying down their lives. I got no right to do any less than them. That's what you don't understand. This isn't about me." Sadie sneaks a glance behind Steven.
Connie quietly says, "Right." She kisses him on his left cheek and tells him, "I'll see you at home." She walks away.
Lars says to him and glances at Connie, who walks away, disappearing into the crowd, "Cause you got nothing to prove."
Sadie gives a small smile at Steven and gives him a hug, "Not gonna say goodbye, just a see you later." He hugs her back, and they both pull away, and he manages to give a small smile at her. Sadie walks away to wait for Lars.
As he backs away a bit, Lars tells him, "Don't do anything stupid until we get back." He refers to Connie as well.
Steven tells him, "How can I? You're taking all the stupid with you two."
Lars walks back to him and quietly says, "You're a punk." He hugs Steven goodbye.
Steven, just as quietly, says, "Jerk. Be careful." They pull away. Just as Lars's walking away, Steven calls out, "Don't win the war till I get there!"
Lars salutes him, then walks away, wrapping his left arm around Sadie's shoulders, "Come on, Sadie. They're playing our song." The doctor behind Steven has a thinking face and watches as Steven walks away, then turns and goes in the direction she went in.
Steven is in a medical examination room, ready to be examined, when a nurse comes in and whispers something to the medical doctor.
The medical doctor tells him, "Wait here."
Steven was sitting at the examination table, looking up at the medical doctor, "Is there a problem?"
The medical doctor just tells him, "Just wait here." And he walks out of the room.
Steven looks at a sign warning against lying on his enlistment form behind him and starts to get ready to leave.
An Enlistment Office MP walks into the room, and Steven looks worriedly at him.
The doctor from the hallway before enters the room and tells the Enlistment Office MP, "Thank you." The Enlistment Office MP quietly leaves. The doctor turned to Steven, who was sitting on a chair as he was starting to put his shoes on before the MP walked in, "So, you want to go overseas? Kill some Nazis." She looks at Steven's file.
Steven looks at her, confused, "Excuse me?"
The doctor walks over and introduces herself, "Dr. Priyanka Erskine." Steven stands up to shake her hand. "I represent the Strategic Scientific Reserve."
Steven introduces himself, "Steven Universe." Dr. Priyanka starts looking through Steven's file again. Steven asks as Doctor Priyanka walks to the examination table to look at the file, "Where are you from?"
Dr. Priyanka adjusts her glasses, "Queens. 73rd Street and Utopia Parkway. Before that, Germany. This troubles you?"
Steven shakes his head, "No."
Dr. Priyanka flips through Steven's file, "Where are you from, Mr. Universe? Mmm? Is it New Haven? Or Paramus? Five exams in five different cities."
Steven quickly lies, "That might not be the right file."
Dr. Priyanka looks at him and explains, "No, it's not the exams I'm interested in. It's the five tries. But you didn't answer my question. Do you want to kill Nazis?" She picks up the file and stands in front of Steven.
Steven takes a moment, then asks, "Is this a test?"
Dr. Priyanka nods and answers like it is obvious, "Yes."
Steven tells the truth, "I don't wanna kill anyone. I don't like bullets. I don't care where they're from."
Dr. Priyanka, impressed by his answer, says, "Well, there are already so many big men fighting this war. Maybe what we need now is the little guy, huh? I can offer you a chance." She slides the curtain back, and they both exit the room. She stands at the desk, "Only a chance."
Steven quickly follows her, "I'll take it."
Dr. Priyanka asks him, "Good... So where is the little guy from?"
Steven answers honestly, "Brooklyn."
Dr. Priyanka stamps Steven's form and hands him back his file, "Congratulations, soldier." She walks away.
Steven opens his file and sees that he's been stamped as accepted 1A. Steven takes a deep breath, taking in the fact that he got accepted.
Steven and Connie's Apartment
Steven walks in the door, still reeling about how he got accepted. He looks at the dark apartment for a moment and faintly sees in the dark that a reminder note was left on the table for him to read. He looks at it and smiles at the 'We need eggs' note, knowing that Connie's way of reminding him and herself of things they need to do. Steven goes to the bedroom and sees Connie sleeping soundly and quietly as he gets undressed to his underwear, not wanting to wake her up. Steven slowly lays in bed, crawling under the sheets and looking at the woman he has loved most of his life. He kisses her, and she moves a little but still sleeping. He lays down fully and whispers while still looking at her, "I love you." He wraps his arm around her and goes to sleep, but when he wakes up, sadly, she is already gone off to war and leaves him a note that says 'I love you, be back before you know it' and has a lipstick mark at the bottom, meaning she kissed the note with her dark red lipstick.
Lars and Sadie's Apartment
After the fair, the couple goes home and gets ready for bed.
Sadie sits at her vanity dresser and brushes her hair, and Lars walks out of the bathroom, just in his underwear, walks over to her, and starts massaging her shoulders. She puts down her brush, enjoying the feeling of it. She looks at him through the mirror and says, "I wish you didn't have to go. I wanna keep you here with me." She smiles at him and grabs his hands on her shoulders, holding them in hers.
Lars bent to her level, looking at her in the mirror, and said, "Don't worry, I'll always come back to you." She lets go of his hands, turns around to him, gently grabs his face with her hands, and kisses him passionately. He kisses back with the same passion. As it gets a little more heated up, he grabs her by the thighs and lifts her as he stands up, walks to the bed, and lays her down, him on top of her as they continue to kiss, and she runs her hands over his back and chest. Lars pulls away and looks into her eyes, and asks if she wants to continue further. She gives him a confident nod, saying it's ok to continue, and he kisses her again.
In the morning, he wakes up before she does, kisses her forehead, and leaves the apartment to meet up with Connie so they can head off to war as Sadie goes to her assigned location.
Day: The Alps
HYDRA Lab
Spinel walks over to a table in the lab and asks, "Are you ready, Dr. Ronaldo?"
A man named Dr. Ronaldo Fryman answers her as he tests a machine, "My machine requires the most delicate calibration. Forgive me if I seem overcautious."
Spinel says as she looks at a picture and puts it down with the others and books all around the table, "And are you certain that those conductors of yours can withstand the energy surge long enough for a transference?"
Dr. Ronaldo walks over to a control panel, "With this artifact, I am certain of nothing. I fear it may not work at all." Spinel walks over to him with the box that has the glowing cube called the Tesseract. She puts it on the table and slowly opens it, and Dr. Ronaldo quickly changes his glasses to goggles, and Spinel grabs a device to take the Tesseract out of the box and walks over to a machine and puts the Tesseract inside the machine as she locks the device in there, and steps back as Dr. Ronaldo turn on the machine by the control panel, and as it grows, Ronaldo counts the percentage, "20%...40...60... stabilizing at 70%"
Spinel walks over to the control panel and takes over as she turns the nobs higher, "I've not come all this way for safety, doctor." When it went to full high, it reacted, and energy came out of the cube, spread through the wires and the equipment with a blue glow, filling a large tube with its power, and the machine slowly shut down.
Dr. Ronaldo looks at Spinel and asks, "What was that?"
Spinel looks behind Ronaldo, seeing the tube, and points at it, amazed as Dr. Ronaldo turns to see, "I must congratulate you, Ronaldo. Your designs do not disappoint. Though they may require some slight reinforcement." Dr. Ronaldo walks over to it.
Dr. Ronaldo looks at it, stunned, "The exchange is stable. Amazing! This energy where it's collected could power my design, all of my designs." He takes off his goggles and looks at the machine with the cube inside, "This will change the war."
Spinel walks up behind him, "Dr. Ronaldo, this will change the world."
