Day: The Alps
HYDRA Lab
There was music playing in the room. Dr. Ronaldo walks in with a book and walks towards Spinel's desk. Spinel was standing behind her desk and switched off a light near her, so her face was in the dark, and standing straight with her left hand on top of her chair as Dr. Ronaldo walked towards her, "Is there something in particular you need?"
Dr. Ronaldo glances at the paint, and the painter that's painting Spinel and quietly says, "I, uh- I understand that you found her."
Spinel gestures in front of her, "See for yourself." Dr. Ronaldo walks to the desk, looks at the black and white pictures of Dr. Priyanka walking on the street, and picks one up in his hand, "You disapprove."
Dr. Ronaldo quickly looks up, smiles, and responds, "I don't see why you need to concern yourself. I can't imagine she'll succeed... again." He frowns and looks down at the picture.
Spinel, still in the dark and posing, says, "Her serum is the ally's only defense against this power we only now possess, and if we take it away from them, then our victory is assured."
Dr. Ronaldo asks, "Shall I give the order?" He puts the photo down.
Spinel responds, "It has been given."
Dr. Ronaldo faintly nods, "Good." He turns around and walks away.
Spinel calls out to him, "Dr. Ronaldo!" Ronaldo stops and turns to her. She turns the light back on but is still not shown, "What do you think?" Dr. Ronaldo walks back a little to see the painting.
Dr. Ronaldo looks at it, "A masterpiece." He turns around and leaves as the painter continues to paint Spinel.
New York, Brooklyn
Car - Inside and Outside
A car honks at the children playing in the street, and they move to the other side as the car continues. Inside, in the backseat, Steven sat behind the passenger side, Sadie sat in the middle, and Jenny sat on the left behind the driver's seat. All comfortable and not squished together.
Steven looks outside the window, "I know this neighborhood." He says, "I got beat up in that alley." He sits down and nods at another, "And that parking lot." He looks down at his lap, "And behind that diner." Jenny was a little awkward by this but continued to look forward, but Sadie knew and grabbed his left hand and gave it a comforting squeeze as she also looked forward.
Jenny asks curiously as she looks around, "Did you have something against running away?"
Steven shakes his head, looks up, and answers, "You start running. They'll never let you stop. You stand up and push back. They can't say no forever, right?" He glanced out the window and looked down again.
Jenny responds, "I know a little of what that's like. To have every door shut in your face."
Sadie nods a little and says, "Same here."
Steven says to both of them, "I guess I just don't know why you'd wanna join the army if you're both a beautiful dame." He tries to correct himself, but Sadie sighs quietly, knowing he's not very good at this, "Or a beautiful... woman. Agents, not a dame." Jenny looks around Sadie to Steven with an amused look, "You are both beautiful, but..." Sadie squeezes his hand tighter to make him stop, but not enough to hurt him.
Jenny asks, amused, "You have no idea how to talk to a woman, do you?"
Steven looks ahead and smiles, "I think this is the longest conversation I've had with one, besides Sadie here and my girlfriend, Connie." Jenny looks forward again with a small smile, happy to hear he has a girlfriend. He looks down, "Women aren't exactly lining up to dance with a guy they might step on." Sadie stays quiet, letting them talk.
Jenny asks curiously, "You must have danced? With your girlfriend, Connie?"
Steven smiles at the mention of Connie, "Well, before Connie asking a woman to dance always seems so terrifying. And over the past few years, it just didn't seem to matter that much. I'd figured I'd wait."
Jenny asks softly, "For what?"
Steven answers, looking out the window, "The right partner. And now I have." Both ladies smiled at that, and Sadie gently squeezed his hand again. They arrive at their destination at an antique shop. They get out of the car. Steven puts on his hat.
Sadie tells them, "This way." She walks up to the store, the other two following behind.
Steven looks at the store, "What are we doing here?"
Sadie tells both of them, "Follow me." She walks into the store.
Antique Store: Inside
They walk in, and a lady walks out to greet them.
The lady looks at Sadie, "Wonderful weather this morning, isn't it?"
Sadie replies, "Yes, but I always carry an umbrella." The lady walks up to the counter and casually presses a button under the counter, and a door opens on the side of the room. Sadie walks in first, with Steven and Jenny following behind. They walk down a hallway, and the two doors were open, revealing a large room with a lot of equipment and people walking and working around. They walked down the steps to the main area.
Dr. Priyanka walks up to Steven, "Good morning." She shakes his hand, and a photographer takes a picture of them. Dr. Priyanka waves him off, "Please, not now. Are you ready?" Steven looks at the machine he's going to be in, then nods. "Good. Take off your shirt, your tie, and your hat." She walks over somewhere else, and Steven does what he's told and hands it to a helper beside them.
On the balcony area, Colonel Dewey walks up to a man and shakes hands with him, "Senator DeMayo, glad you could make it."
The Senator asks, "Why exactly am I in Brooklyn?"
Colonel Dewey responds, "We needed access to the city's power grid. Of course, if you had given me a generalized requisition..."
Senator DeMayo interrupts him, "A lot of people are asking for funds, Colonel." He looks to the side, "Oh, this is Clem uh..." He says, trying to introduce a man that walks up to them.
The man corrects him, "Fred Clemson, state department. Suppose this project of yours comes through. We'd like to see that it doesn't get into the headlines."
The Senator looks out the window from the balcony, "Jesus. Somebody get that kid a salad."
On the ground floor area, Steven climbs in and lays down on the machine, and Dr. Priyanka asks him as she stands on his left, "Comfortable?" Sadie and Jenny stand by the machine.
Steven gets comfortable, smiles, and answers, "It's a little big." Dr. Priyanka chuckles, "You save me any of that schnapps?"
Dr. Priyanka shrugs a little, "Not as much as I should have. Sorry, maybe next time." She calls out, "Mr. Pines. How are your levels?"
Stanford Pines walks towards them, "Levels at 100%."
Dr. Priyanka adjusts her glasses and walks away, "Good."
Stanford stands beside Steven, where Dr. Priyanka was standing, and looks at Steven, "We may dim half the lights in Brooklyn." A helper straps Steven in, "But we are ready. Good as we'll ever be." He walks away.
Dr. Priyanka asks the two ladies, "Agent Carter, Agent Miller, don't you think you two would be more comfortable in the booth?"
Jenny responds, "Oh yes, of course, ah, sorry." Before Sadie follows Jenny, she walks up to Steven, gives him an encouraging smile, and lightly kisses him on the cheek, not leaving a lipstick mark on his cheek. She squeezes his hand, nods to him, and then goes with Jenny.
With a microphone in hand, Dr. Priyanka looks at the balcony where the small group of people are talking and flicks her mic, grabbing their attention, "Can you hear me? Is this on?" The men and ladies took their seats, "Ladies and gentlemen, today we take not another step towards annihilation, but the first step on the path to peace." The small group listens in their booth as Steven gets wholly strapped in, "We begin with a series of microinjections into the subject's major muscle groups." The helper rolls over a cart of the blue serum in tubes, and both Jenny and Sadie sit down in the front row. Sadie's worried about Steven, "The serum infusion will cause immediate cellular change." The helper grabs the tubes except for one and places them in the machine where Steven is lying down, on either side of him, "And then to stimulate growth, the subject will be saturated with vita rays." She stands beside Steven on his right.
Steven gets injected with a needle on his left shoulder, squeezes his eyes shut, and exhales, and when it's done, he says, "That wasn't so bad."
Dr. Priyanka tells him, "That was penicillin." Steven looks at her in disbelief, and Dr. Priyanka shrugs a bit with one shoulder. She looks up at the group above and says, "Serum infusion. Beginning in five, four," A part of the machine with little needles on both sides of Steven goes in his arms to inject, "three," Dr. Priyanka places a comforting hand on his right shoulder, "two, one." Someone pulls the lever up, and the serum gets injected into Steven. He hissed in pain with his eyes closed, then suddenly he opened his eyes and looked up. They widen as he feels the serum spread, "Now, Mr. Pines." Stanford pulls another lever down, and the machine that Steven's lying on moves up to an upper position, so Steven's looking forward instead of looking up at the ceiling, and the machine closes around Steven. Dr. Priyanka steps up and knocks on the capsule machine window, "Steven? Can you hear me?"
Steven's voice comes through from the machine, "It's probably too late to go to the bathroom, right?"
Dr. Priyanka smiles at the response and turns to Stanford, "We will proceed." Stanford nods and turns to a dial and turns it up. Then all the people in the room put on black shade safety goggles for the light that would come from the machine.
Stanford walks over to another dial after putting on his goggles, and with both hands, he slowly turns the dial, calling out the percentage, "That's 10%." A light starts shining brightly from the top of the machine as the power goes up, "20%. 30." He turns the dial slowly and looks over his shoulder to see what's happening. In the booth above, Sadie looks very worried, and the others watch as the light from the machine gets brighter, "That's 40%."
A helper calls out, "Vitals signs are normal."
Stanford continues as he glances between the machine and the dial he's turning, "That's 50%. 60." The light gets brighter, "70." Just then, Steven starts screaming in pain as he is receiving the vita rays. In the booth above, as soon as Sadie hears Steven screaming, she gets up immediately and rushes out of the room, with Jenny following. The Clemson man leaned forward curiously and looked at the machine with a hint of amazement.
Dr. Priyanka runs up to the machine and yells, "Steven!" As Steven continues to scream in pain.
Sadie shouts as she and Jenny leave the bout to the balcony railing, looking down at them, "Shut it down!"
Dr. Priyanka tries to look through the window to see Steven, but the bright light makes it impossible to see in there, "Steven!" She bangs on the window.
Jenny shouts this time, "Shut it down!" Sadie has faint tears in her eyes as she hears one of her best friends scream in pain.
Dr. Priyanka turns around and shouts, "Kill the reactor, Mr. Pines!" Stanford quickly goes to the dial. He turned before the one he was just turning, "Kill the reactor!"
Steven's voice stops them, "No! Don't! I can do this!" Stanford goes back and continues to turn the dial with both hands.
The light gets brighter as it gets more power. Stanford calls out, "80. 90. That's 100%." The machine continues, and some sparks fly out of the control panel where Stanford is, making him duck down a bit to avoid it. Other equipment powering the machine also sparks out, causing the helpers to duck and back away to avoid them. Then the machine powers down, the light goes down, and it turns off, leaving everyone amazed around the room and curiously looking at the machine. Stanford stands there in shock and slowly takes off his goggles.
Dr. Priyanka turns to Stanford, "Mr. Pines!" Suddenly the machine opens up to a new Steven, who's taller, has big muscles, abs, his head tilted back, breathing heavily and exhausted. He looks almost unrecognizable but still the same Steven Universe. Dr. Priyanka and Stanford help Steven out of the machine.
The people from the balcony booth all got up as Colonel Dewey stayed for a moment and looked forward, "The son of a bitch did it." He gets up to join the others. Clemson gets up from his seat and leaves something behind as he joins the others downstairs in the room.
As Dr. Priyanka and Stanford hold up Steven so he's steady, Steven says, breathlessly, still affected by the change, "I did it."
Dr. Priyanka nods and smiles a little proudly, "Yeah, yeah. I think we did it."
Stanford looks at Dr. Priyanka in shock, "You did it."
In shock and amazement, Sadie stands in front of Steven and looks at him, "How do you feel?" Jenny, speechless as well, stands beside Sadie on her right.
Steven, still breathing heavily and now standing on his own, looks around, "Taller."
Jenny snaps out of it as a helper hands a shirt over for Steven, and Sadie quickly grabs it, unfolding it as Jenny replies from his answer, "You look taller."
The group from the balcony booth stands around, and Colonel Dewey goes up behind the Senator and asks him as he passes, "How do you like Brooklyn now, Senator?" He walks over to Dr. Priyanka.
"I think about how some people in Berlin are about to be very nervous," The Senator told him. Clemson stands behind the Senator by the stairs, looking around, then walks forward a little bit.
Dr. Priyanka shakes hands with a man and nods at him as he congratulates Dr. Priyanka, "Thank you, sir." She looks to her left to see Clemson. She looks suspiciously at him and turns to face him. Clemson takes out a lighter from his pocket and looks at Dr. Priyanka. He presses a button on the lighter, and the booth above explodes. Everyone ducks at the glass falling on them. Steven, who has a shirt on, covers Sadie, protecting her from the glass. Dr. Priyanka stands up straight and yells out as Clemson, who's named Heinz Kruger, takes and steals the last tube, which is the serum, "Stop him!" Clemson takes his gun out and shoots Dr. Priyanka in the chest twice. A woman screams in the background, and he starts to run up the stairs to the exit. Sadie quickly got up as Steven went over to Dr. Priyanka. She takes out her gun and shoots at Clemson and gets him twice, one on his shoulder and the other in his arm, but still, he manages to get out, runs into the hallway, and still holding his gun and holds his arm, shoots an agent and runs to a desk and pressed a button and continues to run. Jenny quickly got up, took out her gun, and ran after him. Both Steven and Sadie kneel beside Dr. Priyanka as she lays there, dying and look at Steven and point to his chest, meaning the heart, the same gesture they did when they were talking in the bunkhouse the night before (From Chapter 4), and she takes her last breath and dies. Sadie stood there with tears in her eyes, and Steven looked up with a glare.
In the antique shop above, Clemson/Kruger gets out of the secret door and shoots at the lady that let them in as she was about to fire her machine gun at him but shoots the ceiling because of the shot she took, and she falls to the ground. Clemson/Kruger puts away his weapon and runs to the lady who is now dead, grabs her machine gun, and leaves the building.
Outside / Inside:
Antique Shop & Street
Kruger runs outside, turns to his left, and yells out as he bumps into someone, "Thomas! They're coming, come on!"
Thomas yells as he takes out his gun to shoot at the undercover agents on the street, "Now!" Letting Kruger pass him to get away. The two agents shoot at them and hit Thomas, but Kruger gets in the passenger of a car as they continue to shoot. The driver drives forward, and the agents follow by shooting at them, but Kruger leans out the small window with the machine gun. He shoots them, and the antique shop as the car drives by. Jenny runs outside and sees the car and is about to shoot at it, but Kruger, with the same lighter, presses a button, and the car behind her explodes. She flinches but stands up straight and aims at them as she fires at the driver and successfully shoots him in the back of the head. Kruger manages to stop the car but runs into a taxi as the taxi driver gets out of the car.
The taxi driver calls out, "Heh, what are you doing?" As Kruger gets out of the car, he rushes around the taxi to go into the driver's seat. "Buddy, you alright? This guy's been shot." Kruger drives forward to Jenny on the street, "Stop."
Jenny stands in the middle of the street and aims again, shooting and missing Kruger as he is about to run her over. Steven runs over and grabs her, tackling her to the ground to make her get out of the way. Kruger drives by. Jenny shouts as Steven gets up, noticing he's barefoot, "I had him!" She gets up herself.
Steven, already running, says to her, "Sorry!" And he ran. His new abilities made him run faster. Kruger turns to the left down the street, and Steven follows behind but turns to another street to keep up. He sees him from between the buildings, both turning over on another street. Steven runs across the road and loses control of his speed. He crashes into a store through the front window but quickly gets up and shouts, "I'm sorry!" And he continues to run after Kruger, who goes down an alley and jumps high over a fence to another street, and almost gets run over by two cars, "Whoa, whoa!" Kruger sees Steven following him through the rearview mirror and drives faster, dodging cars. Steven tests his new abilities and jumps on top of a car and jumps to another to get close to Kruger in the taxi. Steven jumps from a truck, lands in the taxi, and holds on as Kruger swerves the car, turns over to another street, and notices that Steven hasn't let go, so with his handgun in his right hand, he shoots up to hit Steven, but Steven dodge the bullets, Steven swings down to the side of the car. Kruger shoots at him, gets distracted, loses control of the car, and hits a truck nearby. The car flips around as Steven lets go before it goes entirely around. The car flips over more than a few times with Kruger in it, and the passenger door gets broken off near where Steven landed on the ground. The car flipped over one last time, and it landed straight up. Kruger gets out a little, disoriented from the crash, gun still in hand, and tries to shoot at Steven, but Steven dodges the bullet. When Kruger gets up, he then aims at the people as they scream and cry out for help, giving Steven enough time to run over to the door, picking it up when Kruger aims and shoots at him again, Steven using the door as a shield.
Now the location they are in is at a docking area, Kruger grabs a random kid, and the mother protests, but another man holds her back so she doesn't get shot, and Steven throws down the door, runs up to the side of the building for cover to see Kruger carrying the kid away. The mother continues to shout.
The kid struggles to get free, "Let me go."
Kruger continues to drag him away, "Shut up."
Steven gets closer, goes to another part of a building, and sees Kruger aiming his gun at the kid's head. Steven steps in and holds his hands out in front of him as a wait gesture, "No! Wait, don't! Don't!" Kruger aims at Steven and shoots, but it clicks, meaning he's out of bullets and groans angrily and throws the kid in the water, "No, don't!" And he runs away.
Steven rushes to the edge and sees the kid is fine, "Go get him. I can swim." And the kid starts to swim to the ladder, and Steven turns to where Kruger ran off and ran that way. Kruger runs to a one-seater submarine and gets in. The top automatically closes, and he turns it on and starts moving. Steven runs after him. The submarine dives underwater. Steven dives into the water after him, swims fast towards it, and manages to grab the wing with his right hand and left hand. He punches the window with super-strength, water now pouring into the submarine. Kruger gasps for breath as Steven opens the top up and drags Kruger out as the submarine goes underwater. Kruger gets thrown high above the water before landing hard on the concrete floor. Steven climbs up the ladder, walks toward Kruger, then jumps back and dodges the knife with which Kruger tries to attack him with. Steven knees him in the face, making him fall back on the floor and drop the knife and the tube with the serum in it, and it breaks, making the serum useless and lost.
Steven kneeled over the man and grabbed him by the shirt and the collars of his suit, both wet from the water, "Who the hell are you?"
Kruger answers, "The first of many. Cut off one head." With his tongue, he slides off a fake tooth and bites on it, breaking it, "Two more shall take its place." Foam starts to rise from his mouth, meaning he poisoned himself, "Hail Hydra!" He chokes and slowly dies. Steven watches in disbelief and lowers him to the ground. Steven stands up straight and holds his arms out, looking at himself in shock with the new look and abilities.
The Alps:
Inside - Tunnel Hallways
HYDRA soldiers march down the hallway tunnels. In another tunnel hallway, Spinel and three other women walk down the hallway.
Vidalia says to her, "The Fuhrer is not accustomed to being ignored, Spinel. He finds your research because you promised him weapons."
Another woman exclaims, "You serve at his pleasure. He gave you this facility as a reward for your injuries."
Spinel replies back, "Reward? Call it what it is. Exile. I no longer affect his image of Aryan perfection."
Vidalia snaps, "You think this is about appearances?" The smaller woman stops to see the HYDRA symbol on a flag and turns to see a HYDRA soldier standing guard. He looks at her back, and the woman quickly walks away and catches up with the others, "Your HYDRA division has failed to deliver so much as a rifle in over a year. And we have learned through local intelligence. You have mounted a full-scale incursion into Norway. The Fuhrer fear... and how does he put it? The crystal gem has been indulged long enough." All the women stop and look at Spinel.
Spinel slowly turns around, with her head tilted threateningly, and glaringly narrows her eyes at the women. She looks between all of them, "Ladies." She stops glaring at them but is still dangerously calm, "You have come to see the results of our work, hmm? Let me show you."
HYDRA Lab
Spinel opens the doors, leads the women into the lab area where Dr. Ronaldo's working, and explains to them, "Hitler speaks of a thousand-year Reich, but he cannot feed his army for months. His troops spill their blood across every field in Europe. But he is still no closer to achieving his goals." She pulls a cloth back, revealing a large gun.
Vidalia smiles sarcastically and asks, mocking her, "And I suppose you still aim to end this war through magic?"
Spinel answers as she switches on the gun, "Science. But I understand your confusion." Dr. Ronaldo narrows his eyes in confusion, "Great power has always baffled primitive men. HYDRA is assembling an arsenal to destroy my enemies in one stroke. Wherever they are, regardless of how many forces they possess. All in a matter of hours."
Vidalia asks in disbelief, "Your enemies?"
Spinel answers, switching more switches on the actual gun and starting to power it up, "My weapons contain enough destructive power to decimate every hostile capital on Earth. Quite simply, ladies. I have harnessed the power of the Gods." The third woman looks at something at the table.
The smaller woman tells her, "Thank you, Spinel."
Spinel asks, "For what?"
The smaller woman answers, "For making it clear how mad you are."
The other woman looks at a map and exclaims, "Berlin is on this map!"
Spinel looks at her and simply says, "So it is." She switches more switches, and suddenly the gun beside the other moves and aims at her. And the other beside Spinel does as well.
The third woman exclaims, "You will be punished for your insolence." Spinel looks at her and nods once, sarcastically, "You will be brought before the Fuhrer and-" She gets cut off by Spinel blasting her away to nothing with the gun beside her, alarming the other two. The smaller one dodges the next few blasts before she gets blasted away. Spinel shakes her head in irritation when she couldn't get her the first time but then nods in approval when she gets her. Dr. Ronaldo hides and watches uncomfortably. Spinel targets Vidalia, who tries to leave, but the door is locked. She turns to Spinel with her back tightly against the door, and she screams in fear as she gets blasted away.
Spinel walks a few steps, not turning around as she says, "My apologies, Doctor. But we both knew the HYDRA could grow no further in Hitler's shadow. Hail HYDRA."
The HYDRA soldiers in the room raise their arms, standing straight, and shout, "Hail HYDRA!" They put their arms down to their sides and stand utterly straight in formation.
Spinel turns to her soldiers in approval, then looks at Dr. Ronaldo, who raises his chin confidentially and shouts, "Hail HYDRA!" Spinel smiles, satisfied with him, and walks away. Dr. Ronaldo frowns and lowers his head, not happy and uncomfortable with all of Spinel's decisions.
