Chapter 4

The kingdom of elvedor is located in between two mountain ranges. To its west is the great mountain range , dividing the continent in two parts. But to its east lies a smaller mountain range called the silver hills, that runs adjacent to its eastern border. The silver hills are occupied by the fearsome dark dwarf clans. To the east of the silver hills lies the ocean.

The lands to the north are occupied by two human nations. The human country called Shidal kingdom borders the great mountain range, whereas the other human kingdom named Zedia kingdom borders the ocean. Both of them are human supremacist monarchies and thus formed an alliance together. The aim of their holy alliance is to form a world with human supremacy. Thus they have declared war on the kingdom of elvedor and the dark dwarf clans.

To the immediate south of the kingdom of elvedor lies the kingdom of kitsune. The demihuman kingdom occupies lands to the east of the kingdom of kitsune. Both the kingdoms have formidable armies but they often fight small wars between them to gain more territory.

A dense forest lies to the south of both of these kingdoms. But the trees in it are unusually shaped and emit a vile presence. No one knows what lies in the forest. All those who had dared to venture in it have never returned. So it is left mostly untouched by these two kingdoms.

The city of Ebonwick is one of the 7 largest cities of the kingdom of Elvdor. It is surrounded by dense forest on all sides , leaving only a few hundred meters of plain land between the city walls and treeline. It is only because of its unusually strong and high walls that the city has survived from the continuous attacks from the various monsters residing in the dense forest.

Despite the ever present monster threat, its population is quite high, only second to the capital city of Blackmere. This is because the city of ebonwick is a major trading hub, due to its peculiar location at the near centre of the kingdom's territory.

To its south lies the capital city of Blackmere. They are connected by a well built road to facilitate better transportation of goods between them. Due to the importance of the road ,it is constantly patrolled by the guards to protect travellers and carvens of goods from bandits and monsters.

Thus it is one of the best cities to live in the whole kingdom of elvedor, but today was not that day.

THE DAY BEFORE ARRIVAL OF MESSENGER AT BLACKMERE.

Evro was late. He had overslept. He didn't know what exactly happened yesterday, but one thing was sure, he had passed out while drinking. He was not new to drinking, but if someone decides to test the body's limit, the outcome is the same. But he didn't regret the outcome, he had wanted to pass out. He wanted to forget about everything for one night.

Hastily equipping himself with his gear, he exited the tavern. Soon he was walking on the main street of Ebonwick. Once again he rechecked his equipment. A sword hung from his waist, sharp as always. On the other side, several knives were attached to his belt. He carefully examined all the knives so as not to accidentally cut himself. The knives had poison on them. Sheathing the knives, he glanced at his black leather armor. The light weight equipment allowed him quick movement, complimenting his fighting style. Conforming that everything was in place, he started heading towards his destination.

The street was quite crowded, not with citizens but soldiers. Soldiers started noticing his eyes and bowed to him. His dark pink coloured eyes, was a mark of heroes for the dark elves. These individuals were thought to be gifted by their god, the dark one, who had united all the dark elves under his banner and established this kingdom. In the history of the kingdom of elvedor, only four such heroes existed. And the one before them was the last of them.

Before he could take his next step, his warrior's senses informed him that something was approaching from behind him. Quickly turning backwards he unsheathed his sword and activated his martial arts

"[Body Strengthening], [Impenetrable fortress]"

Not a moment later a sword clashed with his own, the momentum behind the attack made it difficult to block. Only thanks to the [Body Strengthening] , he could stop the attack without losing his balance.

Countering his attacker, Evro kicked him in the stomach. The attacker reeled backwards grunting in pain.

" You are still too slow, Cemril." Evro said sheathing his sword " It seems I will have to take your training to the next level."

Sheathing his sword, Cemril bowed and said " Still, I think, I will be slow for you master."

" I think you are right." Evro said with a smile "Come join me, I am heading to the wall."

Soon, the duo started walking towards their destination. In a few minutes they were standing atop the walls of the northern gate of the city of ebonwick.

Evro glanced at the vast sea of soldiers getting ready for battle outside the city. The holy army of the Holy Alliance had reached the outskirts of the city yesterday evening. They wasted no time in surrounding the city from all sides effectively blocking all paths exiting the city. Most of their soldiers were stationed opposite to the north gate. And the remaining were blocking eastern and western gates. But they didn't block the south gate.

This was the same tactic that the enemy had used during sieges of previous cities. They always encircled the cities on all sides only leaving a small gap for them to retreat. He knew when death is certain most living beings flee. They have been doing exactly the same during sieges of previous cities. This tactic allowed the enemy to capture the previous cities without much resistance.

But today he could not flee. The city of ebonwick was the last obstacle for the enemy to reach the capital of the kingdom of elvedor, the city of Blackmere. He would make his last stand here. If the city falls he too will fall and join the Dark one.

Soon, he heard loud sounds of horns from the enemy camps. The enemy soldiers started forming ranks, preparing to attack the city. Seeing this, the commanders on the wall started shouting various orders, urging the men to prepare for the coming assault. The battle was about to begin.

Evro turned to Cemril and said, " Go, guard the southern gate. I will be guarding the northern one."

Cemril was shocked by his master's unusual order. He has always fought side by side with his master since the war started. So he couldn't understand the reasoning behind his master's orders. To confirm his master's orders he said "Won't I be more useful at the northern gate after all the bulk of fighting will take place here."

Evro was not offended by Cemril. Generally a disciple couldn't speak with his master like this. The bond between them was different from that of a master and a disciple, they were just like friends. But now Evro wanted him to obey his orders so he said in a stern voice, "Don't question my orders . I Need you to safeguard our escape route if the battle goes wrong. Now go, do as I say."

Cemril was momentarily taken aback by Evro's stern voice. He deduced that his master was serious, so he decided to follow his orders without any question. He was sure if the battle didn't go in their favor his master would retreat to Blackmere and he could again fight by his side.

Evro couldn't help but smile at the retreating back of his disciple. It was not Cemril's time to die here.

The sound of battle horns brought him to his senses. He glanced at the approaching enemy battle was already lost, mere 50000 defenders couldn't stand against an army of 400000 well equipped soldiers. But he will kill as many as he can. With fierce determination in his eyes he quickly walked down the stairs and positioned himself in the front of the formation of soldiers guarding the gate .

Soon both sides started exchanging ranged attacks between them. Not long after he heard a loud bang on the gates and the gates cracked under the force. He knew who could do it, he was sure it was that monster. He tightened his grip on the hilt of his sword, he wanted to give his best, after all this was his last fight.

With another loud bang, the gate cracked open. He saw her, he was right it was that monster followed by the soldiers of the holy army . The soldiers were covered by a strange green light. The light barrier deflected arrows aimed at them.

Before him was a female figure floating slightly above the ground. She had an otherworldly beauty. The figure was adorned with a white dress with golden and silver markings. She had a white spear in her hand as if it was made from the light itself. A golden halo floated above her her most peculiar feature was three pairs of pure white wings on her back. The figure was a Seraph Empyrean.

The Seraph Empyrean is a level 100 summoned angel. These angels belonged to the first sphere of celestial hierarchy and were closest to the god. It was a formidable foe even for a level 100 player.

Before he could do anything, the angel said to him, " Be grateful mortal, my mistress requires your body to perform some experiments and I won't make her wait any longer." Saying this the angel raised her hand. Just as he was about to activate his martial arts, the angel cast her spell "[Angel's Call]"

Not a moment later he was covered with white light. He felt his knees grow weak. He was not strong enough to resist the 10 th tier instant death spell. He fell to the ground and the darkness engulfed him.

That day the city of ebonwick fell. Now nothing stood between the holy army and the capital city of Blackmere.
