The Doctor's POV:
"Liza!" I burst into the room, looking around frantically. She launched herself onto me, wrapping her arms around my neck. I wrapped my arms around her, burying my face in her hair. She was shaking, muttering something about how glad she was that I was okay. Well, that was a sentiment I returned- I don't know what I would've done if something had happened to her.
I could hear everyone else exclaiming to each other (well, everyone except Thelma, who merely acknowledged Luna's presence) and probably hugging each other as well. Liza pulled away after a few moments and looked behind me. "Where's Rose?"
She looked back at me and frowned, "Doctor, what happened to her?"
I shook my head, and she narrowed her eyes. "Doctor, what happened to her?"
"What happened to Jack?" I raised an eyebrow.
Her eyes widened. "She fell in too, didn't she?"
She didn't wait for an answer. She turned around, clapping her hands. "Okay, okay, people, now that we've all had our tearful reunions, I'm gonna have to break the news that two people are down!"
Everyone turned to her, looking mildly surprised (well, judging by the fact that everyone already knew that one person was gone, another person also being gone didn't really come as a surprise, probably). Thelma folded her hands. "And I assume you're going to come up with a plan to bring them back?"
Liza scoffed. "No, of course not, we're gonna let them rot in hell. Of course we're gonna come up with a plan, we'll all die without Rose!" She paused for a moment, "And Jack, obviously, but still!"
I frowned, folding my hands, but let it slide. There were two possibilities- one was that Rose was more important because of spoilery reasons (although, she did mention that Jack was equally as important- maybe Rose does something more important sooner or something, one can never tell when it comes to the future- especially if this "future" came from a confusing and adorable human being who references said future right and left while also making stuff up), or she was more concerned for Rose because they were closer, but who knew? This was Liza, she almost always had multiple reasons for everything she did and said.
"And what do you propose we do?" Thelma raised an eyebrow, folding her hands. I shook my head, sighing. This wasn't the time for their petty rivalry, or whatever the hell this was supposed to be.
"I propose that you stop trying to question everything I do for once and actually help in coming up with a plan."
I sighed. "I propose that we take sarcasm off the table and then come up with a plan."
Liza sighed. "You're right, even though that takes the fun out of everything," She turned to me, "And I do have a plan."
"Which is?" Thelma asked, raising an eyebrow.
Liza turned back to Thelma, "You know how the eternity crystal sorta controls everything around here? Well, if we control that thing, we can stop all threats."
"And how is this going to help us find Rose and Jack?" I raised an eyebrow, and she turned around and rolled her eyes. "You didn't let me finish, bozo."
"Bozo?!" I mouthed, and she rolled her eyes again, but this time there was a hint of amusement on her face. I smiled in spite of myself.
"Anyway, like I was saying before I got rudely interrupted, I have a theory and I need you guys to confirm it for me." Luna nodded, and she continued, "So, the eternity crystal controls literally everything on this planet. I'm assuming it emits something in order to do that."
Luna nodded, "Well, there was something meddling with the readings of my scanner, and the only way that thing's readings can be meddled is if there's a powerful radioactive wave interfering."
"Does this radioactive wave disrupt communication lines, by any chance?"
Luna's eyes widened. "Oh! That's a brilliant plan!"
I narrowed my eyes, "In theory, yes, but if applied, there's a huge chance this can fail. There's so many things you haven't considered, like for example, what if Rose and Jack's safety gets compromised while we're trying to find the eternity crystal? I say we just find them and get the hell out of here."
"I agree with that one," Thelma said. I looked at her and smiled. I turned back to Liza, who was glaring at the two of us. "See? Even Thelma agrees with me!"
"Of course she does," She muttered, "Anyway, you two aren't the only ones here." She turned to Luna, Lucas, and Valen. "What do you guys think?"
"I'm all for Liza's plan. I mean, discovering the eternity crystal? That's a dream come true!"
Lucas scoffed. "You're just saying that because your girlfriend would do the exact same thing. But still, good plan. I'm all for it, but also, this place is slowly starting to get on my nerves, and the Doctor's plan does seem to be the quickest way out..."
I turned to Valen, who was backing into Lucas, "I dunno, I mean, I've read about the crystal and it's dangerous- so I agree with him," He gestured to me, and I smirked at Liza, who sighed.
"Well, looks like I have the majority here," I said, and folded my hands. "So, it's my plan that we're gonna use."
I looked at Liza, who sighed and looked at me. "Fine, we'll go with your plan."
I reached into my pockets. This better work and I better not pull out seventeen different things and embarrass myself- ah. I pulled out whatever I needed. Luna's and Valen's eyes were wide, and Lucas screamed, "Bloody hell! How did you fit a bloody grappling hook and rope in your pocket?!" Ah. Wonderful humans. Always amazed by me. Fantastic!
"His pockets have an Undetectable Extension Charm, anyway," She turned to me, "You're planning on climbing down there, aren't you?"
I nodded. "Yup."
She narrowed her eyes, putting her hands on her waist and shrugged. "Well, it is your plan and you did get the majority."
"I thought you'd start talking about how 'cannon demands that I be safe' or whatever."
She shrugged. "Well, it does, but judging by the fact that the situation demands it, all of us going down that thing is something that's unavoidable."
"Liza, we're not going. I'm going."
She raised her eyebrows and stared at me for a few seconds, "Yeah, that's not happening."
"Why?"
"We don't know what's down there and I don't want you to go alone! The whole point of the plan was to keep us safe, not you in more danger, wasn't it?"
"What, so you being there with me will automatically keep me safe somehow?" Well, it would be more fun, it's always fun when she's around- but I'd rather her be safe. Well, safer than she would've been if she went with me.
She shrugged, "Probably, probably not, but it could be dangerous- scratch that, it is dangerous."
"And if anything happens to me-"
"We're not having this conversation now, nothing's gonna happen to you."
"But-"
"Nothing is going to happen to you. End of conversation."
She was freaking out. I knew she was freaking out. However, judging by her tone, she would've started yelling the moment anyone tried to comfort her. Too much adrenaline. Huge mess of chemicals. I'd probably have to wait till we were all back on the TARDIS for her to properly calm down.
I then realised I was probably staring at her as she raised her eyebrows at me again. "What? Why are you staring at me? You're supposed to go into the goddamn wall passage whatever! Move, move, move!"
Rose's POV:
"Jack?" I exclaimed, running toward my groaning friend, who had just fallen through a tunnel above us. I'd been stuck in the tunnels for a while- at least half an hour- when I heard Jack screaming from above.
"Rose?" He looked up, blinking. "Is it really you or am I having a fever dream before I die? Wait, why am I dreaming about you? I mean, you're great and all, but I assumed I'd at least be thinking about John- Harper, not Smith- or Allison, or even Grey. Wait, why am I not thinking of Grey?! And why are you staring at me like that?"
I stood in front of him, my hands on my hips. "You're not dying, Jack, you've got plot armor, remember? We all do!"
"Oh yeah! So I'm not a completely shit person then. Great." He slowly got up, rubbing the back of his head. "Anyway, how did you end up here? And what is this place?"
"Oh, we were all walking through the corridors and then those statue things started chasing us, and we ran into this dark room where I put my hand on the wall for support to recover from all the running, and here I am," I gestured to the passageways in front of us. Stupid dark tunnels. Who in their right minds would even make a whole underground maze of tunnels?! Well, if they were to hide something important, this would be ideal. At least these passageways were lit with crystals growing between the rocks of the caverns. Not that helped with the heat, though.
"I got here the exact same way. Well, almost. I leaned fully against the wall, but you get the point." He got up and looked around. "So, what do you think? Fancy a hike in the deep caverns of the planet whose name we don't know?"
I shrugged, "I dunno, what if the others found each other and decided to send help? We'd have to be in a place where they can find us,"
"Or, we could go and find this eternal crystal thing everyone's been talking about- although, did anybody tell you about that?"
I nodded, and he continued, "What if the crystal is somewhere here? I mean, we are getting close to the central core of the planet, meaning it should be somewhere close. And if we find it, we can find a way to deactivate it and make life easier for the others." He shrugged, "It could also help them find us faster."
It was a good plan- better to actually help instead of just sitting around, but- "Valen mentioned something about the crystal keeping the planet stable or something. What if we just doom the planet instead of helping?"
"We're on a planet where the sand, the rocks, and even the walls are trying to kill us. Do you really want to test our luck?"
I shrugged, "I mean, it is risky-"
"-But isn't that what travelling with the Doctor is about? I mean, you face a threat to your life by just crossing the street, so what's the point in being cautious when you're gonna die anyway?"
"That sounds both like a good and bad piece of advice at the same time."
"But bad is good, isn't it?" He winked at me and I rolled my eyes. He really needed to learn the ways of the twenty-first century- watching The Avengers on repeat was never gonna help anyway.
I shook my head. "Whatever, I'm just doing this because-"
"Because you trust me?"
"Because the other option is to wait around for help, and who knows how long that'll take."
He placed a hand on his chest, gasping in mock hurt. I scoffed. Drama queen. He was almost as bad as the Doctor. "Stop it and let's just get this over with."
We walked into the tunnel right in front of us. It was covered in green crystals, which seemed to be emitting the heat. I groaned softly, pulling my hair into a bun.
We walked for a while until we reached the opening of what looked like a circular chamber. It's entrance had two of those creepy statue things, and the inside looked like it had a bunch of statues as well. With good reason, because in the middle of the chamber, there was a platform, which held a huge red crystal which was suspended in mid air.
"The eternity crystal," Jack murmured.
"What do we do now?" I whispered, backing into the wall, "We can't let those things see us!"
Jack shrugged, "Well, we could destroy the crystal-"
"Which part of 'the crystal helps keep the planet stable' did you not understand?" I snapped at him, and he shrugged, "Well, we have plot armour, what's the worst that could happen? It's not like we're going to die or anything, Liza made that clear,"
"She also made it clear that time can be rewritten, meaning we can die and also destroy two thirds of the universe in the process!"
"Well, I still believe in her plot armour theory." He shrugged, "And anyway, help is on its way,"
I rolled my eyes, "You could cause some serious damage!"
At that moment, an earthquake struck. It wasn't as bad as the one we faced on the surface, but it did knock us both off our feet. I turned to Jack, "Look? Even the planet agrees with me!"
He ignored me as he stared into the chamber. "Jack, what are you- oh," I looked in the direction he was looking. The crystal had slightly tilted. It was out of place- that was what was causing the earthquakes! And that basically proved Valen's steadiness theory, which meant there was no was Jack was-
I recoiled as a huge bang came from beside me. I snapped my head toward Jack, who was holding a gun in front of him. I gasped and snatched the gun away from him. "What the hell is wrong with you?!"
"I don't know, I've been trying to figure that out for the past seven years!"
I rolled my eyes and pointed at the chamber. The crystal was tipping over and wasn't broken. However, there was a yellow transparent sheet thing surrounding the pedestal. Force field. Great. "You've activated the defenses now, dumbo!"
"You don't know that for sure!"
At that moment, the statues inside the chamber and the ones outside started moving with loud creaks. I looked at Jack, who mouthed, "Oops."
I smacked him upside the head. "'Oops'?! Seriously?! We could die in here!"
"Not really-"
"Oh, for God's sake, forget about cannon for one second, will you?!" I pointed at the chamber, where the statues started stepping outside their pedestals. They seemed to be moving faster than the ones that had chased us when we were in the upper corridors.
Jack and I grabbed each others' hands and ran into the first corridor we saw. The heavy footsteps of the statues behind us became louder. "Did you seriously have to do this, Jack?!" I yelled, turning left.
"Is there really any use in blaming me now?!"
"It makes me feel better, so yeah!"
However, we were saved. Well, ish. The ground started shaking, and I stumbled, falling toward the wall. This time, the earthquake was stronger than the other one we'd faced earlier. I staggered toward the end of the corridor, trying to stay balanced. Bits of crystal and rock were falling around me and Jack, the tremors increasing.
It became harder for me to stay balanced as I staggered through. The tremors increased even more, and the crystals and rock were falling around me, more frequently this time. At that point, I was more focused on being able to stand upright than running away. The statues weren't really a problem, judging by the fact that the earthquakes weakened them as well. But the rocks and crystals were definitely going to be a problem. Well, they already were a problem.
Someone grabbed my hand and I looked to my right, eyes wide, but turned away the moment I figured out that it was just Jack. At least he was close. "Wait, who the fuck is holding my other hand?!" Jack yelled, and I almost fell down. Emphasis on the almost.
"Oi, language, Harkness! There's a teenager in the cave!"
The feeling I had was indescribable- I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time. Whatever I did, though, would've inevitably led into hysterics, judging by all the adrenaline and the fear. "Doctor, I'm nineteen! A legal adult! And I'm turning twenty next month!"
"Still doesn't excuse the fact that he cursed!"
"We're probably going to die and this is your last conversation?!"
"We're terrible at last anythings, give us a bloody break, Harkness!" The Doctor yelled.
At that moment, a very familiar sound reached my ears. No. I was hallucinating. Or was I? For a second, I thought I could see coral pillars and a console. And then the cave that was falling apart. The TARDIS sound became louder and louder, and the TARDIS console room became more and more prominent.
"How did she even-" The Doctor yelled, as the TARDIS materialised around us.
"Oh my God, it's actually them!" Someone (presumably Luna) exclaimed. "Liza, they're here- Aaah!"
"Well, duh!" She yelled, as we were thrown backwards as the TARDIS's sounds started becoming louder. I blinked a couple of times to actually register my surroundings. I was in the TARDIS. I was actually in the TARDIS. The TARDIS that had been absorbed by the sand. I sat up, looking around at whatever was happening around me.
The Doctor seemed to get over his shock quicker than I did, as he was already at the console, helping Liza fly (or well, arguing with her, it was practically the same thing). "What-" I turned to look at Jack, who still seemed to be processing everything.
The TARDIS finally stopped moving, and I breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh my God, we made it! We actually made it!" I hugged the person who was closest to me (Jack, obviously, and he seemed to take it very well), trying to even my breathing.
Everyone was chattering about how we all made it and how everything was gonna be alright. I let go of Jack and stood up, looking for Liza, who practically pushed the Doctor away, running toward me. "Rose!" I threw my arms around her. "Thank God you're alive," She pulled away, looking me over, "You okay?"
I hugged her again, starting to laugh. I don't even know why I was laughing, it was like I had to let out so much- and the only way I could do it was laugh and probably go into borderline hysterics. Brilliant. "I'm alright, yeah, are you?"
I pulled away and she shrugged, "I have no idea- I'm still processing the last fifteen minutes right now."
"How did you even know where to find us?"
She shrugged. "I didn't. A few minutes after the Doc went into the tunnels to find you guys, the statues suddenly started coming into the chambers, and we ran the moment we found an opening. After some time, I think we were close enough for the TARDIS to materialise around us."
"But the earthquake-"
"Well, turns out we travelled through time and space, because we found the TARDIS only after the earthquake stopped."
"How did you even know how to fly her properly?!" Liza turned around and I looked behind her. The Doctor was walking toward us, frowning. "No offense, but the last time you tried flying the TARDIS, we ended up landing in the middle of Jackie's living room and got told off because we ruined her tea time or whatever because the TARDIS was blocking the telly!"
"She helped me use the telepathic circuits."
"She what?!" He ran toward the console and started examining it. "She never opens the circuits, this is ridiculous- oi! No touching the TARDIS!"
Lucas backed away, with his hands up and an amused expression on his face as the Doctor kept firing questions at the TARDIS.
Liza's POV:
"So you're saying if we step out of here, we'll be in Luna University?" Lucas exclaimed, pointing to the doors of the TARDIS. The Doctor nodded, folding his hands. "Yes. Well, most probably."
"Let's just hope that it is Luna University for the sake of all our sanities." I said, leaning against the console.
"What are you talking about?" Thelma folded her hands, staring at the two of us. "Are you trying to imply that we might not be at Luna University?!"
Rose shrugged. "I mean, there's a slight chance-"
"It's Luna University!" Luna shouted from the TARDIS entrance. Turns out she'd already gone outside. Valen sighed and ran out, pulling Lucas along with him. Thelma walked behind the three of them, definitely more dignified, but she also seemed extremely happy to be back home.
We walked toward the entrance as they all exited. We walked into the corridor, which seemed to lead into the main corridor. Luna, Lucas and Valen ran toward the main corridor, while Thelma stood behind to talk to the Doctor.
I walked away from them, getting the impression that they wanted to be alone. Rose and Jack came to stand beside me as I looked at the corridor. It was empty and quiet, except for the footsteps of Luna, Lucas and Valen. "Riv!" Luna squealed, and I perked up.
"Sweetie, you're back!" I jumped, clutching onto Rose's hand. "Oh my God." I couldn't see her, but I could hear her running towards Luna. "This isn't happening."
"Liza, what's wrong?"
"How was your trip, are you alright? Where's Thelma and Roster?" I gasped softly as Luna came into view, hand in hand with River freaking Song. "Holy mother of the Racnoss, it is her!" My voice had gone ultrasonic at this point, but I couldn't care less.
"Liza, seriously, what the hell happened? Who is that?" Jack waved his hand in front of me. "It's River Song, she's the Doctor's-" Oh. I was in front of people who didn't know what the fuck was going on. I jumped up and cleared my throat, turning around. "She's nobody. Or at least nobody we need to worry about. We need to go."
"You wouldn't be freaking out if she was nobody." Jack said, and I shook my head. "I said let's go, Jack, and I will not entertain any questions from anybody until I have a shower and eat something, and even then I won't be telling you anything, because-"
"Spoilers," They both said, exasperated.
A/N: I said I'll post a chapter everyday, and then I forgot. Typical me. I am so sorry for not updating for a while, so I'm posting all the chapters in this story at the same time to hopefully make up for it. I hope you guys liked this adventure, it was my first time dabbling with original adventures and idk if I did a good job or not. Thanks for being so patient with me!
