Sometime Later
Day: Hospital Room
Steven slowly wakes up and sees that he's in a hospital room and can hear a baseball game on an old radio. Steven's not in his uniform but in normal clothing. He sits at the edge of his bed on his left, looking around confused, turning his head to listen closely to the radio about the game, when a woman walks into the room, smiling brightly at him.
The woman says to him, "Good morning." She closes the door, Steven looking at her confused, and she looks at her watch and takes a few steps toward him, "Or should I say afternoon?"
Steven asks, still confused, "Where am I?"
The woman answers him, "You're in a recovery room in New York City."
Steven looks around again, still listening to the game, but he looks at her suspiciously and asks, "Where am I?"
The woman chuckles nervously, "I'm afraid I don't understand."
Steven tells her, "The game, it's from May 1941. I know because I was there." Her expression turns to the realization that he's figuring it out, and he gets up from the bed, "Now, I'm going to ask you again. Where am I?" He walks toward her.
The woman presses something in her hand, now realizing she's a SHIELD Agent, "Captain Universe?"
Steven raises his voice, "Who are you?" Just then, two soldiers in black uniforms enter the room, and Steven steps back in alarm, looking at them.
Outside: The Room In Another Room
Steven knocks the two soldiers in black uniforms through the wall and rushes out to see that the hospital room is fake.
The female SHIELD Agent shouts after him, "Captain Universe, wait!" Steven ignores her, runs to the exit doors, slams them open, and runs out. She takes out her radio, alerting the agents, "All agents code 13."
Main Entrance Of The Unknown Building
Steven runs into the main area, hearing in the PA system with the same woman saying, "I repeat, all agents code 13." Steven looks to his right to see agents running toward him, and he runs the other way, pushing some agents to the ground as he does.
Outside
Steven runs outside and sees nothing that he recognizes. Everything around him is very modern. He runs down the street to find himself in Times Square, New York. He looks around in shock, breathing heavily. Suddenly, numerous SUVs encircle him, and he turns around when he hears someone talking.
Rick Sanchez, Director of Shield, stands in front of the car with Wendy Corduroy beside him, "At ease, soldier!" Steven looks at them as Rick and Wendy walk towards him, "Look, I'm sorry about that little show back there." Steven looks at them with his eyes narrowed and guarded.
Wendy says sympathetically, "But we thought it best to break it to you slowly."
Steven, still breathing heavily, asks confusedly, looking between them, "Break what?"
Wendy answers him, "You've been asleep, Cap. For almost 70 years." Steven looks around him in shock, takes that in, and turns to the side. She asks worriedly, "Are you gonna be okay?"
Steven answers sadly, "Yeah. Yeah. I just... I had a date."
