"You are the Doctor?" One Dalek asked. I nodded, "Did you not hear me the first time? I am the Doctor."
"Incorrect. The female is human." Another Dalek said. I took a deep breath and turned around, laughing. "It's a perception filter, you idiot."
"Scans show no record of a perception filter."
"Duh. Because that's the whole point of a perception filter. So that you won't know it's actually me, but here we are. I've revealed myself." I shrugged, waving my hands for extra flair.
"You are not the Doctor. You are human."
I scoffed, shaking my head. "It's like I'm talking to a goddamn wall! I am the Doctor- the Last of the Timelords, the Oncoming Storm, and above all, your biggest nightmare."
"You lie!"
"I really don't. You want proof?" I started walking around, waving my hands about. That, along with making up a huge monologue was the most Doctorish thing I could do, given the circumstances. "I'll give you proof. Solid proof. I am the Doctor, Time Lord, well, Lady now, from Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous. However, my Prydonian privileges were revoked when I stole a type 40 TARDIS and ran away."
"You will stop talking, you are not the Doctor. You are human!"
"Oh, please." I chuckled. "You're all so naive." I stopped walking and threw my hands up. "I'm well versed in five billion languages, not to mention I've talked the ear off a museum statue once, and I have the ability to talk about almost anything for hours on end, so if there's one thing you can't stop me from doing, it's talking. Not to mention, I'll smite you either way. Remember Skaro? You know, your planet. First time I went there, I killed all of you! Left you to rot in your armor, immobile and helpless! And I was a novice back then!"
"The female is correct."
"Exactly! You wanna know why? Because I did it! I killed every single one of you and I felt no remorse! And I did it again. And again. And again. And I destroyed your planet. Not to mention the famous instance where I tricked all of you into destroying yourselves. And I'll do it again. And again. And again!" I spun around. "I'll keep killing you until you're all gone! Until every single Dalek is wiped off the universe!"
I paced around inside the circle the Daleks had formed around me, "The only reason I haven't already destroyed you yet is because we're close to Earth. Speaking of which, you're the ones who've set back it's developments, aren't you? The ones who've postponed the Great and Bountiful Human Empire."
"That is correct."
I nodded, pretending to process it. "Ah, you see, now you've pissed me off even more. I've put a lot of work into Earth and humans, you know, always saving them. And now you've meddled with that. And that makes me very angry!" I leaned toward one of the Daleks, which backed off.
I stood back up properly and continued my charade of walking around and embracing the theatrics. "I am this close to killing each and every one of you right here and right now." I was facing the room I had come from. I could see Rose poking her head out. Thankfully, none of the Daleks seemed to notice her. I continued walking around, however, I vaguely gestured towards her as I waved my hands about while talking. "You know, you should run. You all should run and hide before the Oncoming Storm arrives properly." I turned to the room again. Thankfully, Rose had gotten my hint. "You know, call for help because the Doctor's here. And she will killyou."
I paused to take a breath. How did he keep talking so much like that?! "Records show that you are not the Doctor. You are Liza Cole."
Oh no. "That was all just a ruse. You see, the man who claims to be the Doctor, he's just a companion of mine. Christopher, very nice guy. Great actor. He pretends to be the Doctor so that nobody knows it's actually me. Even my companions think I'm Liza Cole when I'm clearly not. Good trick, don't you think?"
"You lie. You will be exterminated." A Dalek started to fire, and I ducked, narrowly missing it. I took another deep breath as I stood up properly and dusted my clothes. Deep breaths. Don't cry. "You see, boys, that was a big mistake. Because-"
"Look out!" I spun around swerving as another Dalek's beam almost hit me. Rose had run outside. A few of the Daleks turned to face her. "You will tell us who you are."
Rose backed away, breathing heavily. "Rose."
"Leave her alone! I'm the one you need!"
"You are not the Doctor, you are Liza Cole."
Another Dalek came gliding in. "Alert! Alert! We have been detected!"
I threw my hands up, sighing. "Fine, I'm Liza Cole, and I've always been Liza Cole."
"You will be exterminated."
"Killing me is no good. You see, because the Doctor's already pissed. You don't want him to get more angry than he is now."
"She's right." I let out a huge sigh of relief as I turned around. The Doctor was staring at the Daleks with an expression that scared me, and it wasn't even directed at me. How the Daleks managed to stand their ground was a big mystery.
"Killing her is like digging your own grave and stepping into it, and just waiting for me to bury you."
"The Dalek Stratagem nears completion. You will not intervene."
The Doctor pretended to be surprised. "Oh really? Why's that, then?"
"We have your associates. You will obey or they will be exterminated."
Melody scoffed. "I'd like to see you try."
"No." The Doctor said. Everyone turned to look at him, horrified.
"What is the meaning of this negative?"
"It means no."
"But they will be destroyed."
"No." The Doctor glared at them. "I'm going to rescue Liza Cole and Rose Tyler from the middle of a Dalek fleet, and then I'm going to save the earth, and as a bonus, wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky!" He spat. "Liza, Rose?"
"You're coming to get us?" I asked, and he gave me a mad grin. "Oh yes!" And then he pointed the sonic at the screen, and it disappeared.
A Dalek started gliding towards us. "You know the Doctor. You understand him. You will predict his actions."
I scoffed while backing away. "You almost killed us, and you expect us to tell you our plan? You really are terrible villains."
Another Dalek said, "TARDIS detected in flight. Launch missiles. Exterminate!"
"The TARDIS has no defenses, you'll kill him!" Rose yelled. I placed a hand on her arm. She turned toward me and I shook my head.
"You have predicted correctly." The Dalek said, and I shook my head. "As the only person who knows what's happening here-" I heard a familiar noise, and smiled. "You're wrong."
My hair flew back across my face as the walls of the TARDIS console room slowly materialised around us, getting more and more opaque and real as the wheezing sound of the TARDIS became louder.
When the TARDIS had fully materialised around us, I grabbed Rose's hand and pulled behind a pillar, ducking as the Dalek fired at Melody. "Exterminate!"
She shot back, sending the exact same beam back to the Dalek, exterminating it. "Uno reverse card." She turned to me and smiled. I raised my eyebrows, and she mouthed, "Spoilers." God, that word was definitely annoying when used against me.
I slowly walked out from behind the pillars, and was immediately engulfed in a tight hug by the Doctor. I wrapped my arms around him and buried my face in my shoulder, trying to pull him as close to me as possible. He tightened his grip around me as he murmured. "I thought I lost you. Again."
"It'll take a lot more than Daleks for that to happen." I slowly pulled away from him and smiled. He grinned at me. I took a deep breath as he went to hug Rose. I sighed. How on Earth could he always manage to calm me down all the time?
I turned around to go and find Jack, but was assaulted by two people, aka Jack and Melody, who tried to hug me at the same time. And succeeded. Although, it ended in me being sandwiched between the two of them and having to awkwardly put my hands around them in an extremely weird way. After we all pulled apart, the two of them started talking at the same time and I put my hands up. "Guys, one person at a time."
"Why'd you turn your phone off? I thought you were dead!" Melody said, and I frowned. "No I didn't-" I pulled my phone out of my pocket and checked the settings. "Who put my phone in airplane mode?!"
"You didn't?" Jack frowned. I shrugged, "I mean, I don't think I did- why would I turn my phone off when we're in the middle of an adventure that will most probably lead to death?! For me, you guys have plot armor."
"I don't." Melody pointed to herself. "I'm technically not a canon character."
It was me, love.I snapped my head up and looked up at the ceiling of the TARDIS. This was the second time I'd heard her voice in my head. I thought the first one was a dream- turns out she was actually talking to me. I looked at Jack and Melody, who were both staring at me. Jack's eyebrow was raised, while Melody frowned, but nodded for some reason.
"So? Who turned off your phone?" I shrugged. "I probably must've accidentally pressed that instead of battery saver or something- the point is, I'm removing it right now." I removed it, and looked up at the Doctor, who was kneeling in front of the dead Dalek. "Fifty seven missed calls?! How did you even have the time to call me fifty seven times?"
He shrugged. "I'm a Time Lord, probably a secret skill. Maybe it's fast texting."
"I'm a Time Lord and according to River, I'm the 'slowest texter in all of time and space'." Melody grumbled and walked toward the Doctor. "What's wrong?"
"They're supposed to be extinct, aren't they, Doctor?" Rose asked, and Melody frowned. "What the hell are you talking about? They're-"
"Definitely supposed to be extinct!" I exclaimed loudly. Everyone turned to me and I shrugged. "What? I just said that they're supposed to be extinct."
The Doctor frowned, but turned away. Melody bit her lip and mouthed, "Sorry, I'm still new at this."
I nodded and went to sit next to the Doctor. "My people died with the Daleks when I destroyed them. Thought it was worth it, but now, that's just useless. They died for nothing."
"Not really." I murmured, and he frowned at me. I looked up at him and shrugged. "It was either Gallifrey or the rest of the universe. You had no choice."
"There's thousands of them now. We could hardly stop one." Rose said.
"The last time I faced them, the only option was to blow them up." Melody said, and I turned to her. "The only solution for the Daleks is genocide."
She nodded. "The only way to defeat genocidal monsters is to commit genocide yourself. Talk about fighting fire with fire. Although, that's a rubbish statement- the only way you can actually fight fire is with water or carbon dioxide or something that can extinguish it, so now I've basically just undone the point of whatever I was saying." She threw her hands up. "Why do I even try?"
"Looks like Melody's also a certified member of the subject-changing club." Jack turned to the Doctor. "Anyway, what do we do?"
The Doctor looked away from the Dalek and plastered a fake smile on his face. "No good stood round here, chin wagging. Human race, you'd gossip all day. The Daleks have got the answers." He clapped his hands together and grinned at me. "Let's go and meet the neighbours."
"On it." Melody walked outside along with the Doctor. "You can't go out there!" Rose exclaimed. I turned to her, "Do you really think he cares?" She shrugged. "Probably not."
The three of us went to stand by the doorway as the Doctor and Melody walked out. The Daleks tried to shoot at them, but the force field around the TARDIS prevented them from doing so.
"Is that it?" The Doctor mocked.
"Seriously? Even Amy was a better shot and she ended up accidentally pulling the trigger twice!" Melody scoffed. "You're all useless!"
The Doctor, who was staring at her, turned to them. "Null points!" He walked back to the TARDIS and leaned against it. "It's alright, come on out. That force field can resist anything."
"Almost anything." Jack stepped out. Melody walked back to us and scowled at him. "Oh Lord, you're really stupid in your early days."
"Tell me about it." I scoffed, folding my hands. "You should've been there the first time we met."
The Doctor walked towards the Daleks and leaned in front of them, talking in a dangerously low voice. "Do you know what they call me in the ancient legends of the Dalek home world? The Oncoming Storm. You might've removed all your emotions but I reckon right down deep in your DNA, there's one little spark left, and that's fear. Doesn't it just burn when you face me?" He leaned back. "So tell me, how did you survive the Time War?"
"They survived through me." I jumped as the Dalek Emperor's voice sounded across the room. Melody grabbed my hand, and Rose grabbed my arm. "Who's that?"
The room slowly lit up properly, and the Dalek Emperor came into view. Although, in my opinion, he looked more like a four-legged version of a metal spider with a glass test tube thingy that had a purple one-eyed octopus in it. How he looked almost comical but intimidating surprised me. Although, I was in a TV show where the evil monster once demonstrated it's satanic power by ascending a staircase, so it shouldn't have surprised me at all.
We all walked toward the Emperor, and the Doctor whispered. "Liza, Rose, Captain, Melody- this is the emperor of the Daleks."
"You destroyed us, Doctor. The Dalek race died in your inferno, but my ship survived. Crippled and falling through time, but alive."
"I get it."
A bunch of Daleks then started yelling at him to not interrupt. The Doctor rolled his eyes. "I think you're forgetting something. I'm the Doctor, and if there's one thing I can do, it's talk. I've got five billion languages, and you haven't got one way of stopping me. So if anybody's gonna shut up," He leaned toward the Daleks and yelled, "It's you!" They backed away from him as they did so. Good. At least they had some common sense in their DNA. The Doctor then turned back to the Emperor. "Okie-doke, so where were we?" His tone of voice was extremely polite, almost like he had never yelled at a bunch of Daleks three seconds ago.
"We waited here in the dark space, damaged but rebuilding. Centuries passed, and we quietly infiltrated the systems of Earth, harvesting the waste of humanity. The prisoners, the refugees, the dispossessed. They all came to us. The bodies were filtered, pulped, sifted. The seed of the human race is perverted. Only one cell in a billion was fit to be nurtured."
"So you created an army out of the dead." The Doctor gasped.
"But- doesn't that make them half human?" Rose asked. I shook my head. "They've been grown out of human cells. That should make them fully human."
"Those words are blasphemy!" The Emperor exclaimed, and a bunch of Daleks started yelling at us to not blaspheme. Seriously, human or not, those things were extremely repetitive. Curse their damn hive mind. Or whatever it was supposed to be.
"Since when did the Daleks have a concept of blasphemy?" The Doctor wondered aloud.
"I reached into the dirt and made new life. I am the God of all the Daleks!" The Emperor exclaimed, and all the Daleks started to yell at us to worship him.
"Oh god, they're insane!" Melody gasped. "And this is coming from someone who knows what actual insane Daleks are like."
"They've been hiding in silence for hundreds of years, that's enough to drive anyone mad. But it's worse than that. Driven mad by your own flesh. The stink of humanity. You hate your own existence." He looked up. "And that makes them more deadly than ever." He turned to the Emperor. "We're going."
All of us ran into the TARDIS as the Daleks and their Emperor kept protesting and yelling the word, "Exterminate." They fired their beams at us, but the force field proved to be extremely useful. After everyone had gotten in, Melody closed the doors, and the Doctor went towards the console. He started pulling levers and twisting knobs methodically- like he was trying to keep his mind occupied. I wouldn't blame him, though.
I went to stand next to him. "Need any help with that?" He looked up at me and shrugged. "You'll need to adjust the time rotors."
I nodded and did what he said. Melody came to help as well, and when the Doctor looked up at her questioningly, all she said was, "I know what I'm doing, and I want to help too."
