Chapter 2: Chase's New Roommate
Chase sat uncomfortable in the black leather chair, drumming his thumbs on the arm rest. His eyes wandered around the housing administration office. A woman in her late forties sat at the desk in front of him. Her fingers typed fast against her keyboard. Her eyes focused on her computer through her circle shaped glasses. She barely made eye contact with Chase from the moment he walked in with his approved transfer paperwork. Everything he needed to fill out to transfer back to PCA had been finished and approved that afternoon.
Now all he needed was a room to live in.
"Miss. Burvich, is- is there any chance I could be back in Maxwell Hall?" Chase asked, leaning forward in his chair. The woman's eyes darted over to him. "It's just that my friends- Logan Reese and Michael Barrett live in that dorm." He paused, waiting for her answer. "Plus, I used to live in that dorm too." He added, but she seemed unamused by Chase's words.
"Mr. Matthews, you understand I can't put you back in Room 148." She told him. "Logan and Michael already have a third roommate."
Chase nodded. "Yes, I understand. I will take any room. Any roommate." Chase knew he was coming off a little desperate, but he had only ever lived in Maxwell Hall. He had a ton of friends in that dorm besides his best friends and former roommates.
"Very well." She turned back to her computer and typed on her keyboard. Her eyes scanned through the list of available rooms in Maxwell Hall, which was barely any. "You're in luck. There's only one available spot left in Maxwell Hall."
A smile grew on his face. "Seriously?"
"Room 136." She continued. "It's a double, so you will have a roommate." He nodded, understanding. She pulled out a form for Chase to sign to officially assign him to the room and turned it around as Chase stood up. He scribbled his name, signing room slip.
"Thank you so much." He said, then hurried to the door, grabbing his bags.
"Mr. Matthews!" She called out as Chase opened the glass door. His head turned to her. A grin appeared on her face. "Welcome back to PCA." He nodded, then walked out of the office.
Walking down the hallway of Maxwell Hall, Chase spotted Room 136 at the end of the hall on the corner. The door was propped open, so he dragged his bags to the entrance. He stepped inside and spotted a tall guy with short brown hair sitting at the computer desk, facing away from him.
"Hello." Chase knocked on the door. "I'm Chase Matthews. I'm your new room-" Chase stopped once the guy spun around in his chair. His mouth dropped, seeing who he's new roommate was. "Vince? Vince Blake?"
"Hey Chase." Vince spoke, grinning at this new roommate. Chase stood there speechless and confused as to how Vince Blake was back at PCA? Dean Rivers had expelled him a year and a half ago.
Or so Chase thought?
Chase shook his head confused. "How- how are you here? Dean Rivers expelled you from PCA. You know, for cheating on a major test. And for, you know, beating up me, Michael and Logan." He paused for a moment. "And Del Figgalo." His head was spinning. His fingers ran through his curly, bushy hair. "How did Dean Rivers let you come back to PCA after everything you did?" Chase asked in a harsh tone, crossing his arms in front of his chest.
"Look, after I got expelled, I spent a lot of time in teen therapy. It helped me become a better version of myself. I'm a different person now." Vince explained. Chase's eyes glared at him, not believing him for a second. He sighed, his eyes glancing away from Chase for a moment. Vince stood up and stepped towards Chase as his eyes shifted back to him.
"Look, I already apologized to Logan and Michael, but I own you the biggest apology." Chase's eyes narrowed as he continued. "You were right to turn me in for cheating. I should have taken full responsibility for my actions and not have blamed you. I know I wasn't the nicest guy before." He paused briefly. "Chase, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything that happened. I hope you can give me a second chance. Maybe we can be friends." He stuck out his hand towards Chase for a hand shake. Chase glanced at his hand, then shifted his eyes up to Vince.
"I accept your apology, Vince, and I will deal with being your roommate." Chase spoke, then shook his head as he added. "But we are not friends." Vince nodded. He knew one apology wasn't gonna immediately fix things with Chase. It was gonna take time for his grunge towards him to faded away.
"Understood." Vince said, putting his hand back down by his side. Chase sighed heavily, picking up his stuff and throwing it onto single bed beside the door. "But just because we're not friends, doesn't mean I'm gonna stop hanging out with Logan, or Quinn, or Zoey or Micheal." He added. "I hang out with them a lot since I started dating Lola." Chase intensed up at the mention of Zoey. How was Zoey friends with Vince Blake now? How was any of them friends with him now?
Especially Lola- who was dating him?
"Since when have you and Lola been a thing?" Chase questioned in disgust.
"Since I came back to PCA." He answered. "You didn't noticed I was her date to prom last night."
"No, I didn't." Chase said shaking his head. "I was a little preoccupied dancing with my girlfriend." Vince's eyebrows raised in surprise, knowing he was referring to Zoey.
"Zoey's your girlfriend? That happened quick." Chase gave him a disgusted look. If they weren't gonna be friends, then they certainly weren't going to talk about their dating life to each other. "Her and James only broke up a few days ago." Vince commented, making Chase darted his eyes to him.
"Who's James?"
