Hey babes! Back again with a new fic for ya! This one was very fun to put together. This is a little 5+1 fic, and I wanna thank my dear friend Cassie for once again letting me use one of her ideas and run wild with it (i'm pretty sure that was the case here).
Enjoy!
0 - MAC AND RILEY
Mac wakes to the pleasantly familiar feeling of soft lips against the skin of his chest. He keeps his eyes closed, though, simply basks in how amazing his life is right now. He's with the woman of his dreams, and she loves him, and he no longer has to hide his feelings for her. And they've completely cemented their relationship, and he now knows every beautiful dip and curve of her body; he'd spent so much time mapping it out in his mind.
His hands had aided in the mapping, of course, along with his lips, drawing noises from the back of Riley's throat that simply spurred him on in his efforts. He took his time, though, had wanted to savor every single moment of their bodies intertwining together. And that's exactly what he did. Over and over again.
"I know you're awake, Angus."
Mac chuckles quietly, finally opening his eyes to find those beautiful browns that he fell in love with staring down at him. "Hi."
She smiles softly. "Hi." She leans down to kiss him, letting her lips linger. "Good morning," she whispers.
His smile widens. "Yes, it is."
A small laugh escapes past her full lips. "You're such a dork. Why did I sleep with you again?"
He lifts one of his arms to wrap it around her waist and pull her down closer to him. "Because I'm irresistible."
Her head tilts adorably, her brows furrowing. "Mm…that's debatable. Because I'm pretty sure I resisted falling for you for a while."
He nods slowly. "True. But eventually, you did fall. Which proves my point that I'm irresistible. And now you love me. But it's okay, because I love you too, Riles."
She lets out a small, content sigh as she curls her arm over his chest and rests her chin on it. "I don't think I'll ever get tired of hearing you say that."
"Well, that's good. Because I'll never get tired of saying it. Think of it as making up for a lot of lost time."
"You've just got a solution for everything, don't you?"
He shrugs. "Not everything. Just most things."
Riley nods slowly. "Right. And what would be your solution if I said that I wanted to get out of bed right now?"
Mac grins cheekily as he wraps his other arm around her body and rolls them across the bed until he's hovering above her. He dips his head and begins peppering kisses along the side of her neck, eliciting a quiet laugh from Riley as she threads her fingers up through his hair.
He pulls away after a moment to smile down at Riley, taking in her beauty and the fact that he now gets to admire it without feeling the need to hide from her how he truly feels. It's the greatest thing in the world.
"What's the look for?" Riley asks, her free hand brushing some of his hair back and then slowly moving down to cradle his cheek.
Mac leans into her hand. "Just admiring how beautiful you are."
A light blush creeps up her cheeks. "You certainly know how to make a girl feel special."
"I do my best."
"Well, your best is definitely working for you."
"Good to know." He lets out a breath. "Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to get back to showing my incredible girlfriend just how incredible I think she is."
Riley smiles. "You're the one who stopped."
He smiles back. "How unbelievably careless of me." He immediately dips his head and begins attacking her neck again with kisses, smiling wider as she squirms. The beautiful sound of her laughter fills his ears, the absolute perfect background music in the world. Nothing else compares.
.
.
.
Riley is living in pure bliss, memories of Mac's hands and lips on her body taking up every corner of her mind. So she's extremely grateful they don't have to be in to work for a few days. One of the benefits of no longer being at the government's beck and call is that they get many more days off than before. It's fantastic. And spending all of those days off with Mac is even more fantastic. Ever since she came back from her undercover op and they fully gave in to their feelings, it's been nothing short of amazing.
Familiar hands on her waist squeeze gently, warm lips pressing against the side of her neck, lingering with each kiss. She closes her eyes and lets her body relax against the firm chest behind her.
"You know, a girl could seriously get used to this kind of attention," she remarks as Mac's fingers hold firmly onto her waist as he continues kissing her neck.
He smiles against her skin, pressing a kiss right below her earlobe as he whispers, "Well then it's a good thing I don't ever plan on stopping."
"I am very glad to hear that."
Seconds later, the moment is interrupted by her phone buzzing and vibrating against the kitchen counter. She knew she should have left it in the bedroom instead of bringing it with her. It would be their luck to be interrupted. But at least they weren't interrupted last night, that would have been way worse.
Letting out a breath, Riley reaches out to grab her phone, opening it up and going straight for her emails.
"What's that?" Mac asks, his chin resting on her shoulder as he breathes deeply, and a glance to the side tells her that his eyes are closed.
"Email from Taylor." She scans over the short message, not entirely sure what to expect, and then her eyes go wide. "Oh boy."
"What? Riles, what's going on?"
She turns around to face him, forcing him to stand up straighter. "So…this new thing between us may have just gotten complicated."
"How so?"
"That email Taylor sent? It was a company-wide memo. Apparently, due to 'recent incidents', fraternization between colleagues is now strictly prohibited."
Mac's eyes go wide. "Wait. He can't seriously do that, can he? Matty would never agree to it. Right?"
She lets out a heavy breath, locking her phone and setting it aside. "I don't know, Mac. I'm just telling you what the email says. That's some perfect timing, though, huh? Right when we finally figure this out, Russ puts a stop to it."
Mac's brows furrow slightly. "What are you talking about?"
She tilts her head. "Come on, Mac. I love you, but I'm not about to get fired or reprimanded because of it."
"Hey." He steps closer and places both his hands on her arms, his eyes boring straight into hers. "It is absolutely ridiculous that you think an email is going to stop me from finally being with the woman I am madly in love with. You are it for me, Riley Davis, and no one is going to stop us from dating. Not even Russ Taylor."
"You really mean it?"
He nods with a smile. "I really do. I don't care if we have to hide our relationship and sneak around until Russ realizes how ridiculous that policy is, I am going to be with you. In every sense of the word."
Riley grins, wrapping her arms around Mac's neck and shuffling closer when his arms wind around her waist. "Then let the sneaking commence."
1. BOZER
Ever since they cut ties with the government, Bozer's been spending a lot more time at Matty's side, learning the tricks of the trade. So whenever he gets the chance to go down to the lab and tinker with a new project or lose himself in his original hobby of prosthetics, he'll take it. Plus it's always fun to get to spend a little quality time with Sparky.
As he steps into the room, he's expecting it to be another usual day at the Phoenix. Meaning that just about anything can happen, causing everything to be thrown off-kilter. But when he walks in, everything is thankfully still normal as he sees Mac and Riley sitting at a table on the other end of the room; he just smiles to himself. Yes, spending time with Sparky is great, but spending time with his two best friends is even greater.
He stops short though when he sees Mac move out of his seat to stand impossibly close to Riley behind her chair. Bozer realized quite a while ago how Mac somehow always manages to find himself deep into Riley's personal space, even if neither party realizes what's happening. So it's completely normal and doesn't take him much by surprise.
Bozer's eyes go slightly wide, however, when he sees Riley's head fall back against Mac which prompts Mac to kiss Riley's hairline. Then he's leaning down toward Riley's ear and clearly says something that has Riley grinning like a madwoman and nodding.
Then Bozer watches as Mac spins Riley's chair around, the blonde genius leaning down closer to the hacker, his hands resting on the armrests of the chair. Bozer's about to step forward and make his presence known when he sees Mac's lips touch Riley's.
His eyes go comically wide as he witnesses Riley's hand fisting the collar of Mac's shirt to pull him closer, her other hand wrapping around the back of Mac's neck and then pushing up through his hair. Then one of Mac's hands falls off the arm of the chair, landing on Riley's thigh, and it's enough to finally send Bozer into action.
"What the hell's going on here?" he asks loudly, announcing his presence to his friends as he marches closer.
They jump apart, their eyes wide and their faces flushed, their breathing heavy. They share a silent conversation with their eyes and then look back at Bozer.
"Uh, we can explain," Mac starts, holding his hands up.
Bozer glances back and forth between the pair. "Yeah, you better. How long has this been going on?"
Riley shifts in her chair. "Right after I came back from my undercover op."
Bozer's eyes go wide for the third time. "A month?! Ya'll have been together for an entire month and never told me? How could you do that to me?"
Mac takes a small step forward. "It's nothing personal, Bozer, I promise. Right after we officially got together Taylor sent out that memo about no fraternization between colleagues. So we just wanted to keep this to ourselves for now. No one else knows yet."
"Actually," Riley speaks up slowly, drawing Mac's attention to her, "my mom knows."
"Riles…"
"I'm sorry. I went to see her last week and she made a comment about how much happier I seemed, so I told her about us."
Bozer just stands back and listens to the rest of the exchange, his eyes jumping back and forth between the pair whenever one of them talks. It's almost like a ping-pong match, the way that they barely miss a beat in their conversation, sometimes even seeming like they're finishing each other's thoughts. But he's happy to hear absolutely zero hostility in their words and is pleased to see nothing but affection in their eyes.
Bozer clears his throat loudly after a moment to get their attention again, shifting on his feet and staring them down. "So exactly how long were you two planning on keeping this from me?"
"We're not sure," Mac answers. "But I can promise that you most likely would have been the first person we told."
Bozer huffs. "Right. Well, because you've kept this amazing milestone from me, I'm gonna need something from you two in return. Especially if you want me to keep this from everyone else."
"You better not say making your meals for any length of time, because we all know that none of us can hold a candle to any meals that you make," Riley responds.
"No, you're absolutely right, Riley. It'd be impossible to live up to his skills in the kitchen."
Bozer's eyes dart between them again, his eyes narrowing as he takes in their smiles. "I know what you two are doing." He lets a grin take over his face, standing up taller. "And it worked. I can't stay mad at you guys. My two favorite people in the world finally got their heads out of their asses and are together. This is a glorious day and nothing can ruin my happiness. Not a thing."
2. PARKER
If there's one aspect that Parker doesn't enjoy, it's routine maintenance on the servers. It has to be done periodically, and the person who has to do it changes with each round. This time it just so happens to be her turn to run all the systems through the gauntlet and make sure they're operating properly. And she is not looking forward to it in any way, shape, or form. She'd much rather be doing just about anything else.
But she does it because it's part of the job. And she loves every other aspect of her job, so doing routine maintenance every once in a while is a very small price to pay. But that doesn't stop her from wishing she never had to do it again.
As she cracks open the door to the server room, Parker's brows furrow tightly when she hears odd noises coming from the darkness. Noises that she's never heard from in there before when doing maintenance, like the scraping of metal and hushed voices. There shouldn't be any noises other than the sound of machine fans spinning.
Flipping on the light, she moves further into the room but stops short, her eyes going wide at the view in front of her. Riley is sitting on top of the table in the middle of the room, Mac standing right in front of her, her legs wrapped around his back. Neither of them is wearing a shirt, and Riley's eyes are closed as Mac kisses her neck, one of her hands buried deep in his hair while the other holds onto his shoulder.
Before Parker has a chance to even think about moving out of the room, Riley's eyes open and then go comically wide.
Parker just watches as Riley pushes Mac away, and she's internally debating what exactly to do right now. If there's one thing that's worse than catching your coworkers in the middle of an intimate moment, it's said coworkers catching you catching them in the middle of an intimate moment. She doesn't know how she's going to be able to look at them the same after this.
"Parker. What…what are you doing here?"
She focuses back on the scene, grateful to see them both fully clothed, though Mac is still turned away from her. "Uh, routine server maintenance."
Riley's eyes go wide. "Is that today? Okay. Wow. Uh, we'll just…we'll get out of your way then, so you can—"
"Take your time," Parker cuts her off. "I can always stop back later."
Riley nods. "Okay. And um…would…would you mind not saying anything to anyone?"
Parker laughs quietly. "Don't worry. I can promise you that I won't be willingly telling anyone about this."
"No, I know. I meant more along the lines of Mac and I being together, you know, with Taylor's new mandate on coworkers not…fraternizing."
Parker nods in understanding. "Got it. Well don't worry, my lips are sealed. I won't say anything. And congratulations, by the way, I've been waiting for you two to finally come to your senses. Have fun." She barely manages to catch the shock on Riley's face as she turns around to leave the server room, flipping the light back off as she goes.
She figures she'll give them at least an hour before she comes back. That should be plenty of time.
3. DESI
Having so much downtime between ops allows Desi many more opportunities to work on her skills in the gym. It's definitely one of the best gyms she's ever used, having completely state-of-the-art equipment for her to use, and some of the best showers she's ever experienced afterward. One of the best perks of the job. She loves going there later on in the evening because it's usually pretty empty, and she can get some of her pent-up energy out before she goes home to Evan.
So, needless to say, but she's a bit surprised to find the gym being used when she gets there. She's adjusting the straps of her boxing gloves when she hears the sound of heavy panting and what she thinks are muffled hits against the training mat, so she stops. She listens for a moment and then slowly moves forward quietly, curious as to who else has the idea to use the gym at this time of night.
The second she sees who's standing on the mat, she freezes in place. In all the years she's known them, she's never seen Mac and Riley sparing before. She knows they both know how to fight, had seen it for herself in the field, and she's witnessed them both sparring before. Just never with each other. So naturally, she's curious.
She stays in the shadows and watches as they move around the training mat, both of them breathing heavily and a thin layer of sweat coating their bodies. She watches as they trade a few blows that don't connect, and then Mac is sweeping Riley's legs out from under her. He lands above her, his hands firmly planted on either side of her head, and a smile on his face.
She can't hear what's being said, but clearly, Riley thinks it's amusing because she laughs. Then she watches as Riley effortlessly takes Mac down, flipping him over and straddling his lap, a smirk on her lips.
Again, she doesn't hear what's being said. But she doesn't need to hear words to understand the situation. Not after she sees Mac's hands land on Riley's backside as Riley leans down to kiss Mac slowly.
Desi's eyes go wide as she watches the two start making out, Mac's hands slipping underneath the fabric of Riley's tank top. Unfortunately, the room is quiet enough for Desi to hear the moans that escape both people in front of her. Not at all what she wants to see or hear.
"Pretty sure you two have a house and an apartment you can do this in," she finally speaks up after watching one of Riley's hands slide down Mac's chest and disappear between their bodies.
The pair literally jumps apart, Mac rolling to face away as Riley sits on her knees, brushing hair out of her face. The room is quiet, save for the pair's heavy breathing.
Desi leans sideways against the nearest surface. "So, how long has this been going on?" she asks, gesturing between them.
Riley shifts. "Uh, almost three months."
Desi nods. "Alright. Well, congratulations, I guess. I assume Taylor doesn't know?"
"He does not. We figured we'd wait for a bit because of the memo he sent out."
"Right. Smart call. I'm gonna leave and when I come back in ten minutes that mat better be sanitized."
Riley's eyes go wide. "Desi, we didn't—"
"Sanitized," she repeats, narrowing her eyes at the pair. She fights back a smirk when she sees the slight embarrassment spread across their faces again. "And don't worry, I won't say anything to Taylor. I'm just glad you two finally figured all of this out, it's been driving everyone else crazy." She laughs quietly at the looks on both their faces, then spins on her heel and makes her way out of the room with a smile on her face.
4. EVAN
Since essentially getting a new lease on life, Evan's done with excitement. At least, the kind of excitement that involves war or constantly being in the middle of life or death situations. The kind of excitement he enjoys now lies more in the neighborhood barbecues and garage sale variety. He's adapted pretty well to life in suburbia and is more than happy with letting Desi be the one to bring home the bacon. He's perfectly fine with being the one to stay home and keep their place in working order.
He also enjoys getting to drive Desi to work sometimes, and then pick her up afterward. He doesn't do it all the time, seeing as sometimes she'll be called in super early, or won't get back until really late. But on the days when she gets called in at a normal hour, he enjoys driving her there and then picking her up when she's done.
Most of the time he just waits outside for her, but other times he likes to go inside and meet her. Like today, for example. It's a bit on the chillier side outside, so he figures waiting for her inside will be a good idea since the Phoenix building is usually pretty well heated throughout. Plus, it's kind of fun having a visitor's badge that allows him to walk around for a bit while he waits for her.
He takes the same route he always does through the building, not going into any of the rooms that he knows he's not allowed in. At this point, he knows the layout fairly well, but of course not as well as someone who's there every single day.
His brows furrow slightly when he hears some odd noises coming from behind one of the doors that he knows is a supply closet. He doesn't know why there would be noises that sound like thumps and metal scraping over concrete, but his curiosity gets the better of him and he's moving toward the closed door.
Finding that it's unlocked, he pulls the door open, his eyes going wide at the sight in front of him. Mac and Riley are clearly in the middle of a very intimate moment, Riley's back against the far wall with her legs wrapped around Mac's waist. Riley's pants and Mac's shirt are both on the floor, and Riley's shirt is hanging open but still on her body. Neither of them notices that he's there, so he's praying that he can get away without them seeing him.
But as he goes to close the door, he trips over a piece of cleaning equipment that had slid across the floor when he opened the door. It's then that he realizes that some of the shelving is knocked askew and various items are scattered across the floor. And the piece he tripped over goes sliding back across the floor, hitting the back of Mac's ankle.
"Oh, why does this keep happening to us?" Mac mutters.
Evan stands up a little straighter and chuckles. "Maybe it's because you two are in a supply closet at the Phoenix and the door wasn't locked."
Riley's eyes go wide and then she looks at Mac. "I am so sorry. I thought I locked it."
"It's okay," Mac responds, then looks over his shoulder. "Hey, Evan. Could you maybe...keep this quiet? We just don't want Taylor finding out quite yet after the memo he sent out."
Evan holds his hands up and smiles. "Don't worry. I can promise that this moment will never be told to anyone else. Congratulations, by the way, I'm happy for you two. But maybe try and avoid any more supply closets in the future." He chuckles again as he pushes the door closed and then continues on his path through the Phoenix in search of Desi.
5. MATTY
Since as early on in her career as she can remember, Matty has made it a point to know about everything that goes on in the lives of the agents she oversees. It's the best way, in her opinion, to know exactly what they're capable of and what they can handle at different times. She prides herself on how well she knows her agents, and how much the majority of them have come to respect and admire her based on that fact. It makes her job much more satisfying when she knows they all have her back as much as she has theirs.
However, for as much as she knows about her agents, every once in a while, some little detail will slip through the cracks. It's rare, but it does happen, despite her best efforts. She's learned, though, not to let it get to her. Sometimes there are just things that are out of her control.
Just like with her agent's lives, she knows about pretty much everything that goes on inside the Phoenix building. She can't run an intelligence agency if she doesn't know what's going down behind all the doors. Which is why she's more than confused when she's going to check that one of the interrogation rooms is prepped for later and finds the door locked. She knows for a fact that there aren't any interrogations happening today, they haven't done any for a while given their new frame of job work.
Turning toward the keypad on the wall next to the door, she inputs the code for the door, but it doesn't work. She tries her own override code but somehow that doesn't even work. So needless to say, but she's frustrated.
Letting out a huff of air, she pounds her fist against the door rapidly and then steps back. She waits somewhat impatiently in the hallway, waiting for whoever's on the other side to open the door. Moments later it cracks open and a familiar face peeks through. He's breathing heavy, his hair disheveled and he's obviously trying to keep the majority of his body out of her view.
Her brows furrow tightly. "Blondie, what are you doing?"
"Uh…at this current moment? Talking to you."
She narrows her eyes. "Don't get cute. Are you alone in there?"
Mac shifts. "Not...not exactly."
"It's a simple yes or no question, Mac. Are you alone?"
He shakes his head. "No. Riley's in here too."
It takes less than ten seconds for all the pieces to fit together inside her mind with what little information she has, and she narrows her eyes at the blonde in front of her. "Are you two doing what I think you're doing?"
Mac opens and closes his mouth a few times. "Uh…I don't know how to answer that without the risk of getting in serious trouble."
"Too late. Get dressed and get out of there. And make sure you disinfect everything. If I catch the two of you doing this again, anywhere in the building, there will be serious consequences. Do I make myself clear?"
Mac nods. "Yes, Matty."
"Riley?" she prompts, peering past Mac's shoulder and raising a brow but not moving.
"Crystal clear," Riley's voice drifts through the opening.
"Good." She lets her face soften, a small smile tugging at her lips. "On a completely unrelated note, I'm really happy for you two. After everything you've both been through, you deserve some happiness."
Mac smiles. "Thanks, Matty. And uh, it's completely up to you, obviously, but we'd really appreciate it if you didn't tell Taylor about us."
"Don't worry. Messing with Taylor is a favorite hobby of mine. I won't say a word so long as your relationship doesn't interfere with your work."
"You have my word that it won't."
"Glad to hear it. Now do as I said and get out of there." She doesn't wait for a response, simply turns on her heel and starts walking away, the ultimate power move.
She really is happy for Mac and Riley. From the moment she first saw them working together when she took over the team she knew they had a special type of bond. And she's been fortunate enough to see it continue to grow and build into something truly beautiful.
+1. RUSS
If there's one thing that Russ Taylor loves, it's a good party. Because a good party means there will most likely be good alcohol and the opportunity to schmooze and maybe even boast a little. Some of his favorite pastimes, if he's being truly honest.
Which is precisely why he can do neither of those things at a party that Angus MacGyver throws at his house. No one there cares much about his past accomplishments, and his schmoozing is completely unnecessary. At least there's always decent enough alcohol though. He doesn't know quite what he'd do if there wasn't.
And while he loves a good party as much as the next person, he has absolutely no idea why they're having one. It's at Angus' house, naturally, and it's more than just Phoenix employees who are there. Riley's parents are in attendance, as well as a few people he's been told are old friends/neighbors. Which honestly just leaves him more confused.
But he tries to enjoy himself nonetheless. He speaks with people, drinks a little, and finds himself having a good time.
Eventually, the clearing of a throat pulls his attention, and everyone else's, and he turns to see Angus standing near the deck railing overlooking Los Angeles. The man has a smile on his face and a glass of champagne in his hands. That piques his interest, he loves a glass of good champagne.
"So," Angus starts, "I'm sure many of you are wondering why we decided to have a party right now. I promise it'll all make sense in a moment. Riles, could you join me over here, please."
Seconds later, Riley is standing next to Angus, a matching smile on her face and a champagne glass in her hand.
Russ' eyes go wide the moment the two grab hands, their fingers interlocking between their bodies. Though now that he's remembering, the two have been rather touchy the entire party.
A second later, Angus looks down at Riley with probably the softest smile Russ has ever seen on anyone. "Would you like to do the honors?"
Riley turns to them all and grins. "Mac and I are getting married. This is our engagement party."
Shouts of excitement and congratulations ring out across the deck, several people moving forward to hug the newly engaged couple. But Russ just continues to stand there in shock. They're engaged? Actually engaged? When did they ever even start dating?
"I'm sorry," he finally speaks up, shifting a little on his feet and furrowing his brows. "You're engaged?"
Angus nods. "Yeah. We started talking about the future last month and I realized that we've wasted so much time already not being together that I didn't want to waste any more." Angus smiles brightly down at Riley, sliding his arm around her waist to pull her close. "It's only been six months, but it's been the best six months I've ever experienced. She is the love of my life and the very best thing to ever happen to me."
Riley smiles just as brightly, her left hand landing on Angus' chest, her engagement ring on full display. "And he's the love of mine."
Russ shifts again as he watches the pair lock lips. His brows furrow tighter when he catches sight of the piece of jewelry. "That doesn't look like any engagement ring I've ever seen."
Riley turns to him. "That's because it is completely one of a kind. Made from the exact paperclip Mac had on the day we met."
Russ raises a brow. "You used a bloody paperclip?"
Angus shrugs. "It seemed like a good idea when I did it."
"And it was," Riley tells him. "Because I love it."
Russ nods. "Right. Well, while I suppose congratulations are in order, I cannot seem to overlook the fact that you did not tell me, your boss, that you two are involved."
"This was our way of telling you," Angus says with a small smile. "You've always been too busy whenever we tried before. Telling you we're together and that we're engaged…two birds with one stone."
"I see. And I guess I should have listened to Matilda when she told me that the 'no fraternization' memo would be pointless."
Angus chuckles. "Yeah. We got together literally the night before you sent that out. We'd both pushed our feelings back for so long that we weren't going to let something like that stop us from finally being together and happy."
Russ lets out a heavy sigh. "Yes, that much is very clear."
As he watches them turn their attention back to each other, he can't help but smile. They certainly deserve a little happiness in their lives. And so long as their relationship doesn't muddy up their work in the field, he sees no reason to stand in their way.
