A little over five months had now passed since Nate and Sophie left. I took on a more background role to the jobs we were taking, helping Parker with the client meetings, keeping an eye on things from either the van or at the brewpub. It was actually kind of nice, running things. It kept my mind sharp, and kept me entertained since I couldn't be out in the field. That part was kinda upsetting me, so I was glad I could do something.
I was now eight and a half months pregnant, and ready to meet the twins. Everything had gone well so far. Eliot was the best, helping me out with different things, no complaints, and going to all my appointments. It was kinda funny cause Eliot was always at my side, and Hardison and Parker would switch who was on the other side of me.
We found out we were having a boy and a girl. We had names picked out, clothes bought, and thanks to Hardison and Parker, we had a room in the brewpub near ours that was the nursery. We kept it simple, using light colors for the room and the cribs, which were simply designed. And Hardison doubled security, putting a camera in the room and an audio sensor, so if the twins cried, we'd hear it in the room, and if the camera saw anyone but us four, it would trigger, sending an alert to all of our phones.
For some reason, I just craved peanut butter the whole time.
One night, Eliot and I were sleeping. He bought me this special pillow for pregnant people, and it was a Godsend! Cause I was eight months pregnant with twins. I was kinda big. And a couple of times I've caught Eliot, Parker, and Hardison borrowing it when they needed a nap.
Anyways, I felt this sharp pain in my side, waking me up with a suppressed groan, trying not to wake Eliot up. Though, Eliot being Eliot, heard me stirring as we sat up.
"You okay, mama?" Eliot asked me, not yet woken up.
It happened again.
"Sorry, babe, I didn't mean to wake you. Someone's kicking my side." I told him.
He lowered himself and looked at my huge stomach, getting close.
"Hey, little one's. It's your daddy. Let your mama get some sleep, okay?" Eliot whispered to my stomach, causing us both to smile.
And I didn't feel that pain anymore.
"Holy shit, that worked." I chuckled a little.
Eliot chuckled as well. We shared a quick kiss. I then felt this pressure near my back.
"You can go back to bed, babe. I'll be back in a sec." I told Eliot.
"Alright." Eliot said, a slight smile on his face.
I got up and made my way to the bathroom.
"Still beautiful as ever, Sweetheart." Eliot told me.
I chuckled.
"Asshole." I shot him a look as I closed the door, getting another look from Eliot.
I don't even start my business when my pants start feeling wet. At first, I thought it was something else, but then I felt this other pain, and I realized it was a contraction.
"Holy shit!" I whisper loudly.
I opened the door.
"Uh, babe." I called out to Eliot.
"What is it?" Eliot asked, looking at me.
The crotch of my pants was soaked.
"I'm pretty sure my water broke." I told Eliot, trying to keep calm.
Eliot got wide-eyed.
"Shit. Okay, okay. I'll grab you some pants to change into first." Eliot all but shot out of bed.
"Please, thank you." I told him.
He beelined to my dresser and pulled out a pair of my maternity sweatpants. He handed them to me and he grabbed a shirt while I changed. The contractions were kinda close, but I had a little time. I walked out to the bedroom as Eliot grabbed the hospital bag.
"Okay, got the bag, now to get Parker and Hardison up." Eliot reminded himself.
We walked out to the hall and made it to Hardison and Parker's room. Eliot knocked a couple of times, then opened the door. We could kinda see Hardison and Parker sitting up.
"Dude, what?" Hardison was kinda snippy.
I poked my head in.
"I'm pretty sure I'm in labor, so we gotta go." I said, suppressing another groan.
"Damn! Okay, give us a sec, and we'll be out." Hardison and Parker both shot out of bed.
"Wait, the staff's coming in in a few hours." Eliot pointed out.
"Parker, get Eliot and Kaira to the hospital, I'll leave some notes for the staff." Hardison told Parker.
She agreed. Parker went ahead to get the car as Eliot helped me to the car.
We drove to the hospital. Both Eliot and I were trying not to panic as we got checked in and into a room. Eliot helped me get into a hospital gown as Parker waited for Hardison in the room.
I am not a complainer when it comes to pain, as I usually have high pain tolerance, but this was different. So far, the contractions were a half-hour apart with lighter ones in between. Eliot was facing me, holding my shoulders, looking each other in the eyes.
"You ready?" Eliot asked me.
I nodded and smiled.
"Hell yeah! I want to sleep on my stomach again." I kinda chuckled, suppressing a contraction.
"You ready to meet our twins?" I asked Eliot.
He gave a light chuckle.
"Yeah. Let's do this." Eliot was getting excited, getting me excited.
He helped me to bed, and Hardison walked in.
"Hey, Hardison." I gave him a smile as I shifted to get myself "comfortable".
Like that was gonna happen any time soon.
"Did you take care of the staff?" Eliot asked him.
"Yeah, I sent out a mass message to everyone and told them to hold down the place while we were gone." Hardison explained.
I smiled.
"Thanks, Hardison." I smiled.
"Ain't no problem, Kai." Hardison kinda brushed it off as no big deal.
"No, I mean it. All of you. You've all helped me in ways that I can never repay. Hardison, whether it's making fake IDs for a con, rigging the brewpub with extra security so the twins can be safe, watching security cameras, pointing out problems. Parker, watching the boy's backs while I'm back home so I don't have to worry about your asses. Eliot, always watching my back while I got his or making me laugh when I'm upset. You three are the most important people in my life. Well, besides these two." I chuckled lightly as I rubbed my stomach, feeling another contraction.
"Eliot may have been my first partner, but meeting you two has changed my life." I looked at Parker and Hardison, standing frozen, affected by what I was changing.
"If I hadn't met you two, I wouldn't have gotten off my ass and changed. I wouldn't have married Eliot, or be here, about to have our twins." I looked at Eliot, silently asking permission to ask a question I had been thinking.
Eliot nodded, giving me the go-ahead.
"Which leads me to my next thing. Eliot and I have been talking, and we want the last names of our children to be Pardison-Spencer." I told Parker and Hardison, and I swear I see tears forming in their eyes.
"I like it." Parker smiled.
"We'd we honored." Hardison gave a soft smile.
And I started tearing up, and I catch Eliot tearing up. I chuckled as Eliot and I wiped each other's tears.
"Oh, you assholes, making me cry. Damn pregnancy hormones." I teased them as we chuckled.
"Come here." I told them. Eliot hugged first, then Parker snuck in, hugging me, then Hardison.
I felt like the safest person in the hospital in that moment. We let go.
After getting checked by the OBGYN, Dr. Harmer, it was a waiting game. Hardison kept messaging the staff, who were all excited to meet the twins.
The rest of the morning was spent waiting and timing. I had the epidural during that time, and the contractions were getting closer and closer. Eliot barely moved from beside me, with Parker and Hardison taking turns standing beside me. Everything was going good.
I know I should probably eat, but I'm too anxious too. And I don't think I could eat at the moment anyway.
It was almost 8 in the morning, and Dr. Harmer did one last check, and it was time. Eliot was at my side, holding my hand, and Parker was holding my other one. Our son was born first, then our daughter. Both screaming as they came.
We were all crying messes as the twins laid on my chest. Eliot kissed my forehead as we looked at our twins.
"You did amazing, Sweetheart. And they're both fighters like you." Eliot whispered, causing us both to chuckle through the crying.
"Pretty sure they get that from their daddy." I can't help but tease Eliot.
He smiles back at me. I think this is the first time I've seen Eliot crying.
After a bit, once the twins were checked out and weighed, and measured, and they were healthy. Once the certificates were filled in by the doctors, we had to give the names we chose.
The name Eliot and I chose for our son was Nathaniel Alexander Pardison-Spencer, named for his grandfather and his godfather. We named our daughter Sophia Kasey Pardison-Spencer, named for her grandmother and aunt she'd never meet.
After we got the twins back, I was exhausted. So, Hardison and Parker agreed to watch them while Eliot and I slept on the hospital bed. It was a nice nap. Though, I was anxious to hold my twins. And Eliot was too, cause we both woke up at the same time. I chuckled as I saw Eliot's eyes woke up. We saw Hardison and Parker watching over the cribs that were at the foot of the bed like hawks.
"Hey, you feeling better?" Parker asked us.
"I'd feel better if I was holding my babies." I teased, extending my hands.
"Alright." Hardison chuckled.
Him and Parker carefully handed the twins to me and Eliot. I was holding our daughter, Eliot our son. I then heard Hardison's phone click. We both looked at him.
"Dammit Hardison!" Eliot and I both exclaimed.
"I'm gonna let that slide cause I ain't getting my ass beat." Hardison said, defensive.
"Alright, but I still look like shit." I said.
"No, you don't, Sweetheart. You look like you just had our twins, which makes you even more beautiful." Eliot gave me a smile.
I smiled back.
"Thanks, babe." I looked at Eliot.
We shared a quick kiss and I heard Hardison's phone camera click. I just chuckled. For the first time in a while, I was content. I had my twins, and I had my family by me.
A day later, I got the discharge papers and we headed back to the brewpub. When we walked into the brewpub, the lights off. Eliot and I were each holding a carrier. Then the lights flicked on, and I hear "surprise" being yelled.
I realized it was all the brewpub staff, and I recognized some of Sophie's theater troupe. We were laughing and celebrating. Then I saw Nate and Sophie come forward.
"Oh my god." I couldn't help but smile.
I hugged Sophie, then Nate. I then saw the look on Hardison's face, and I realized he set all this up.
"You son of a bitch." I chuckled at Hardison.
"Parker helped." Hardison pointed to Parker.
"I guess I did. You deserve it, Kaira." Parker hugged me.
"Thank you." I whispered to Hardison and Parker.
I let go, and Sophie was all over the twins.
"They're beautiful, darling! Congratulations!" Sophie had a big smile on he face.
"Thanks, Soph." I smiled back, showing my thanks.
"Did you want to hold them?" Eliot asked Nate and Sophie.
They both agreed, and we handed Nate our son, and Sophie our daughter.
"Hey, little one." Nate whispered to Nathaniel.
He looked at me.
"What names did you pick?" Nate asked us.
I chucked. I lightly rubbed the thin hair on Nathaniel's head.
"This future heartbreaker like his daddy is Nathaniel Alexander Pardison-Spencer." I told Nate.
I may not have told Nate I was planning on naming my son after him. He choked a bit.
"I like it. Hi, little Nathaniel." Nate looked at me, then Nathaniel.
Sophie, I think choked up too. I looked at Eliot, giving him a nod.
"And this little firecracker like her mama is Sophia Kasey Pardison-Spencer." Eliot told Sophie.
Nate and Sophie looked at each other, having the same idea.
"You named your kids after us?" Nate questioned us.
"Well, Eliot wanted to name the twins after my parents, and well, you two are the closest thing to parents I have, so. It felt right." I smiled at Nate and Sophie.
"I think the names are beautiful." Sophie complimented.
I chuckled.
"Thanks." I said.
We celebrated for the rest of the day basically, though a couple of times I had to leave to let the twins take a nap and eat. It was nice, seeing everyone happy. We said goodbye to Nate and Sophie, as they had a flight to catch.
Everyone else went home, and Eliot and I went to put the twins to bed. We both watched over them Eliot and I had our arms wrapped around each other.
"This is real." I whispered to myself, reminding myself, a slight smile on my face.
"Yeah. It is. And you did amazing, sweetheart." Eliot smiled at me.
I smiled back. I then heard Hardison and Parker walk in.
"Can we come in?" Hardison asked us.
I nodded it was okay, but warned them to stay quiet.
"How's everything?" Parker asked.
"Perfect." I said, looking at the twins, peacefully sleeping.
Cause everything was perfect. I had my twins, and my partners in crime.
"They're so tiny, and fragile, and beautiful." Parker said.
Eliot and I chuckled.
"We do make some cute babies, huh?" Eliot looked at me with that goddamn shit-eating smirk of his.
"Don't get any ideas, Smartass" I warned him.
"Wouldn't dream of it." Eliot smirked.
"You better not, cause I don't wanna have to beat your ass." I teased Eliot.
We all chuckled, and we all wrapped our arms around each other. It was peaceful. The twins were here, and I couldn't be happier! For the first time in a long time, I was content. I had everything I wanted.
